Pro-Life News July 6, 2012

Obama Administration Calls Pro-Lifers Terrorists Again Once again, the Obama administration has called “terrorists” the majority of Americans who support the pro-life view on abortion. A January 2012 Department of Homeland Security document is making the rounds on the Internet and it paints an unflattering picture of pro-life Americans. The January, 31, 2012 document is titled, “Hot Spots of Terrorism and Other Crimes in the United States, 1970 to 2008? and was released by the Behavioral Sciences Division of the department. “The authors of this report are Gary LaFree, director of START and professor of criminology at the University of Maryland, and Bianca Bersani, assistant professor of sociology at the University of Massachusetts-Boston,” the document says.

Obama Admin Again Rejects Indiana’s De-Funding Planned Parenthood For the second time, the Obama administration has rejected Indiana’s effort to revoke taxpayer funding for the Planned Parenthood abortion business. Written yesterday but released today, the Obama administration, through the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), a component of the Obama administration’s Health and Human Services department, issued a letter recommended ruling against Indiana’ defunding of Planned Parenthood. The letter was written the same day the Obama administration decided to send a Tennessee Planned Parenthood abortion business a three-year grant totalling more than $1.2 million.

Brad Pitt’s Mom: “Obama Supports Killing Unborn Babies” Jane Pitt, the mother of actor Brad Pitt, is making waves after penning a letter to the editor for her local newspaper slamming Obama and urging fellow Christians to vote for Mitt Romney. In the letter published by the Springfield News-Leader, Pitt calls President Obama, “a liberal who supports the killing of unborn babies.” She adds, “Any Christian who does not vote or writes in a name is casting a vote for Romney’s opponent, Barack Hussein Obama.” Those in the mainstream media and on the Left have panned the letter. Gawker writer Taylor Berman calls Jane Pitt a “loon.” He adds, “For those of us with family members prone to quasi-racist, half-coherent Thanksgiving dinner rants, it’s a relief to know the rich and famous sometimes go through the same thing.”

After Obamacare Court Ruling Lots of Pro-Life Work To Do The U.S. Supreme Court’s long-awaited ruling on two key provisions of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) was issued June 28. Few could have anticipated the outcome in National Federation of Independent Business v. Sebelius. The Court upheld the constitutionality of requiring individuals to enroll in a health plan—the linchpin of the ACA. Writing for the Court, Chief Justice Roberts upheld that requirement as a lawful exercise of Congress’s constitutional authority to impose taxes. Since the ruling was announced, it has been all but impossible to turn on the television or radio or go online without hearing a reporter, pundit, expert, talk show host or caller raise some question about the Court’s decision: It’s all guesswork wrapped in speculation inside a conjecture.

Congressional Hearing to Focus on Brutal Chinese Forced Abortions A Congressional hearing on Monday will focus on continued human rights attacks and abuses in China, even after the international attention on Chen Guangcheng, the Chinese forced abortion opponent who fled China to the United States following house arrest and persecution. Congressman Smith, the chairman of the House Subcommittee on Africa, Global Health and Human Rights will preside over the hearing, entitled “Continued Human Rights Attacks on Families in China” that will focus on the Chinese government’s attacks on families of dissidents or women without birth permits. Witnesses include both Pastor Bob Fu, of ChinaAid Association who helped get Chen Guangcheng released and other top human rights experts.

Abortion Backers Assault Two Pro-Lifers in Violent Attacks In recent days we have reported on the assault of a pro-life protester (caught on video and followed by arrest) and the vandalization of a pro-life leader’s home. Here are two more attacks by abortion supporters against pro-lifers to report. The first occurred June 30 and is in follow-up to my story that pro-life activists planned to distribute flyers outing country singer JoDell Nauert as the owner of three abortion clinics at an Independence Day gig.

Scott Peterson Appeals Death Penalty Sentence to Supreme Court Scott Peterson has appealed the death penalty sentence he received from the state of California for his involvement in the murder of Laci Peterson and her unborn child Connor. Attorneys for Peterson filed a 423-page legal document with the California Supreme Court claiming Peterson is innocent and had nothing to do with the murders, which prompted federal and state Unborn Victims laws that provide greater protection and justice for pregnant women and their unborn children who are attacked or killed outside the context of abortion.

New Obama Planned Parenthood Funding Totals $1.2 Million LifeNews reported today on new funding the Obama administration is sending to a Planned Parenthood abortion business in Memphis, Tennessee. As more details have surfaced about the funding, pro-life advocates are up in arms over it. The Obama administration has sent a family planning grant of $395,000, but additional information shows the grant is an annual one that the abortion giant will receive in Memphis for three years — totaling well almost $1.2 million. Barry Chase, executive director of Planned Parenthood Greater Memphis, told the Tennessean newspaper that the money from the Obama administration will replace the $700,000 in funding the state formerly provided it.

Romney Reportedly Considering Pro-Life Woman as VP Pick Ann Romney, wife of the presumptive Republican presidential candidate seeking to take on pro-abortion President Barack Obama, says Romney is strongly considering a woman as his running mate. With Romney having already pledged to pick a pro-life vice-presidential running mate, a pro-life woman would very likely energize Republican and pro-life voters and provide further contrast to Obama, who has compiled a very lengthy pro-abortion record.

Obama Admin Sends $395K to Tennessee Planned Parenthood The Obama administration has sent a family planning grant of $395,000 to a Planned Parenthood abortion business in Memphis, Tennessee. The move is drawing strong condemnation from pro-life advocates in the Volunteer State who are unhappy taxpayer funds are going to the nation’s biggest abortion business. Congressman Steve Cohen today announced that Planned Parenthood Greater Memphis Region (PPGMR) has received $395,000 for the Title X Family Planning Services Program from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office of Grants Management.

Archbishop Chaput Closes Fortnight for Freedom With Amazing HomilyArchbishop Charles Chaput is one of the most respected pro-life voices within the Catholic Church and he has proved that once again with a homily to close the Fortnight for Freedom event that has the Catholic community abuzz on the Internet. Below is the full text of the address from the Archbishop of Philadelphia, given at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, D.C.: Paul Claudel, the French poet and diplomat of the last century, once described the Christian as “a man who knows what he is doing and where he is going in a world [that] no longer [knows] the difference between good and evil, yes and no. He is like a god standing out in a crowd of invalids . . . He alone has liberty in a world of slaves.”

Supreme Court Obamacare Decision Left Abortion Funding Intact In a surprise ruling, the Supreme Court upheld Obamacare, maintaining the “individual mandate” as constitutional, not under the commerce clause, but under the taxing clause. The only part of Obamacare the Court limited was the law’s requirements on state Medicaid programs to expand or face a loss of all Medicaid funding. So, here are the several pro-life and religious freedom problems that now stand with the Court’s blessing, and other items of concern (section references are to PPACA, P.L. 111-148):

European Parliament Adopts Resolution Condemning Forced Abortions The European Parliament has adopted a resolution strongly condemning forced abortions and sterilizations under China’s one child policy. The resolution specifically condemns the forced abortion at seven months of Feng Jianmei, which occurred last month in Shaanxi Province, China. The image of Feng lying in a bed next to the body of her baby killed in the abortion has riveted the Internet for weeks. The image of Feng lying in a bed next to the body of her baby killed in the abortion has riveted the Internet for weeks.

Pro-Lifers Silenced by Police at Rally File Free Speech Lawsuit On June 8, Priests for Life Youth Outreach Director Bryan Kemper and pro-life advocates participating in a rally against the Obama HHS mandate were silenced by local police, who told them they couldn’t hold their pro-life signs. Now, they have filed a First Amendment lawsuit against Sinclair Community College in Ohio and its campus police.

Population Control Activist Dies as Her Legacy Unravels Feminist Activist Joan Dunlop died last week at 78, just a week after her legacy of recasting international population control efforts as “reproductive rights” began to unravel.

Wisconsin Abortions Drop 7.4 Percent, 576 Babies Saved “Numbers released today by the Department of Health Services show a 7.4% reduction in Wisconsin abortions in 2011 compared to 2010.” That’s the good news presented today from Wisconsin Right to Life executive director Barb Lyons.

Mississippi Still Has a Chance to Become Abortion Free On Monday, pro-lifers received some disappointing news when a federal district judge blocked a law that would have likely put Mississippi’s lone abortion clinic out of business.

California: Parental Notification on Abortion Won’t Make Ballot California voters will not be able to vote on a state ballot measure for a fourth time that would allow parents to know when their minor daughters are considering an abortion. The measure did not receive enough signatures statewide to qualify for the November vote.

Cardinal Dolan: Religious Freedom, Human Dignity Go Hand in Hand As any horticulturalist knows, you cannot cultivate roses merely by plucking weeds and killing aphids. One must plant rose seeds. No matter how hospitable the garden is for the cultivation of roses, if there are no seeds, there will be no roses. Negative horticulture is, in itself, unproductive.

“Catholics” for Choice Mocks USCCB Fortnight for Freedom They say that the best defense is a good offense. For those defending the indefensible, it’s also the only defense, as abortion apologists have taken to heart. At RH Reality Check, Catholics for Choice President Jon O’Brien accuses the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops of undermining the cause of true religious freedom with its “sham” Fortnight for Freedom: But religious persecution isn’t only history. If you adhere to the Baha’i faith in Iran today, you live in fear, monitored by a government that has a history of arresting, torturing and killing members of your faith. In Indonesia, the refusal to confess a belief in God will land you, badly beaten, in prison—in 2012. Today’s American Catholic bishops would have us think they are the latest victims of religious persecution. Their claims denigrate the suffering of those who know the true meaning of that term.

Denying Humanity: Abortion Backers Can’t Stand Ultrasound Pictures It’s hard not to blame the influence of technology for the seemingly inexorable spread of the culture of death. Accurate and safe prenatal testing has led to the destruction of an estimated 90 percent of unborn children diagnosed with Down syndrome. Sonograms reveal that the sex of yet-to-be-born children has led to a “small-h” holocaust against girls in places such as China and India, where boys are often preferred.

Poll: Canadians Want More Restrictions on Abortion New polling data shows Canadians may support the current situation where abortion is essentially legal in Canada, but they want limits in place on abortions that the current state does not allow.

Pro-Life Law May Stop Abortions in Knoxville, Tennessee The state of Mississippi is getting considerable media attention over a law there that could make the state the first abortion-free state in the nation, but the same law in Tennessee may end abortions in Knoxville.

Oregon: Ballot Prop Fails, Taxpayers Forced to Fund Abortions A statewide ballot initiative that would end taxpayer funding of abortions in Oregon failed to obtain enough signatures to qualify for the November ballot. As a result, taxpayers are still on the hook for millions of dollars to fund tens of thousands of abortions.

Underpopulation: Muslim World Faces Devastating Fertility Decline Fertility rates of Muslim populations around the world have almost literally fallen off a cliff, so steep has been their decline. Policy makers at the UN and elsewhere have barely noticed this.

Abortion Was Illegal in All 13 American Colonies in 1776 Americans celebrated the 236th birthday of the United States on Independence Day yesterday. As Americans hearken back to a time of freedom and independence, recalling some of the glory days of the Old Republic, Texas Alliance for Life points out an interesting note.

re: 1st article, from link: "Single Issue: groups or individuals that obsessively focus on very specific or narrowly-defined causes (e.g., anti-abortion, anti-Catholic, anti-nuclear, anti-Castro)."

By including "anti-Catholic" people as potential terrorists, it looks like Obama admin is listing HHS as a potential terrorist group.
