We heard that phrase for the first time in 1999, as we fought to stay pregnant with our tiny son. “Even if he’s born alive,” they said, “which is unlikely, he’ll have no quality of life.” The words were spoken kindly, by well-meaning people, but they were like a sledgehammer to my heart. What did it all mean? And what was going to happen to us, to our baby? 4 days later, hours past the “viable” mark, our 24 week baby was born alive. He was 1 lb, 5 oz, and he was very, very sick. Obama's Abortion Views "Disgust" at Length

Tony Perkins, FRC Action Update: When Planned Parenthood's Action Fund decided to sink $3.5 million into anti-Mitt Romney ads, who knew they'd be doing the Governor a favor? With massive ad buys in Wisconsin, Florida, Ohio, and Virginia (made possible by the taxpayer dollars that keep the other parts of her business afloat), Cecile Richards's group wanted to highlight the contrast between the candidates on abortion policy. But in pointing out President Obama's extremism, they've also exposed his Achilles heel. Voters, including some of the White House's own supporters, are turned off by his dark and controversial views on human life.

Earlier this month, the Susan B. Anthony List tested those views on a wide swathe of America and found that most voters would be less likely [pdf file] to vote for the President because of them. In a survey conducted by Kellyanne Conway's the polling company, inc., Americans in battleground states--the same ones targeted by Planned Parenthood's ads--were 54% less likely to vote for Obama when they learned that he voted against a law that gives constitutional protections to babies who survive a failed abortion. And that includes women (53%)!

Respondents were equally repulsed by the fact that ObamaCare includes taxpayer-funded abortion--a reality that even the Left-leaning Politifact confirmed as "mostly true" this week. By a 49% to 25% margin, voters said they would consider abandoning Obama over that issue alone. Another 69% overwhelmingly oppose the mandate that forces faith-based groups to cover abortion pills and contraception as part of their health plans. While some may believe in the legality of abortion, very few think American taxpayers should be forced to finance it. In most instances, that's a bridge too far even for pro-choicers.

Conway thinks the Romney camp could do more to exploit the President's weakness in this area. "The presidential race--being fought mostly on economic and employment terrain--has been stuck in neutral for months," she said. "This survey shows that a few straightforward, specific facts about President Obama and abortion shock the collective conscience of swing voters in battleground states... Even self-identified pro-choicers, young voters, independents, and Democrats cannot turn a blind eye to his out-of-step views." The bottom line is that President Obama isn't shying away from his radicalism--and Republicans shouldn't either.

No Comparison Between Pro-Life Catholic Ryan and Pro-Abortion Biden The conventional wisdom holds that both vice-presidential candidates, Rep. Paul Ryan and Vice President Joe Biden, are roughly equal in terms of their Catholic standing: Ryan is good on the life issues, but weak on social justice; the reverse is said to be true of Biden. But is it a draw? Not even close: Only one of these Catholics — Biden — has been criticized, reprimanded, and sanctioned by the bishops. Make that 17 bishops. Before detailing all the trouble Biden has gotten into with the bishops, some debunking of the conventional wisdom is in order. Sister Simone Campbell, executive director of NETWORK, a Catholic dissident organization, is responsible for much of the mythology about Ryan. Read More

Pushing abortifacient IUDs and implants on adolescent

Rita Diller, American Life League:  Planned Parenthood has long sought to control population via invasive and dangerous IUDs and contraceptive implants, but the high cost of long-acting reversible contraception (LARC) safeguarded most young girls and women. In addition, horror stories about bad experiences with IUDs and contraceptive implants are so common that most women are leery of them. (See the comments on Abby Johnson’s blog in response to her post “IUDs…the worst choice,” for one scary story after another.) In fact, in 2009, only 8.5 percent of contraception women and girls used LARC. Planned Parenthood is on a mission to change that.

Enter Obamacare, with its mandates for free contraception (all FDA-approved forms). And, within weeks, the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) issues a committee opinion that glowingly recommends IUDs and contraceptive implants for adolescents as a first-line measure against conception!

According to Planned Parenthood, the cost of an IUD is between $500 and $1,000 up front—a real boon to Planned Parenthood’s bottom line!

But does it really prevent conception?

Former Planned Parenthood facility director, Abby Johnson, writes that she once saw a tiny baby on the end of an IUD that was removed in her facility, and that Planned Parenthood’s protocol is to use the IUD to abort newly conceived babies. You will find confirmation on Planned Parenthood’s website that the IUD impedes implantation. Yet, Planned Parenthood says it is not an abortion if the baby has not yet implanted, incorrectly referring to the newly conceived child as a “fertilized egg.” ACOG concurs, having changed its definition of conception in 1965 to the implantation of a fertilized ovum.

In a comprehensive summary about LARC, Hans E. Geisler, MD, FACOG, FACS, writes about the risks to the woman using an IUD:
1. Increased risk of septic abortion, septicemia, septic shock and death in patients becoming pregnant with IUD in place.
2. Risk of pelvic inflammatory disease (highest within 20 days of insertion) which can lead to hysterectomy, tubo-ovarian abscesses, tubal damage and loss of future fertility.
3. Risk of uterine or cervical perforation causing abdominal adhesions, intestinal penetration, intestinal obstruction, abscess formation, or erosion of adjacent viscera.
4. Precipitation of Wilson’s disease in a patient bearing a copper IUD (a form of hepatic degeneration secondary to excess copper).
5. A pregnancy occurring in a woman with an IUD in place is more likely to be an ectopic pregnancy.
6. A baby conceived with an IUD in place is at increased risk of premature delivery and birth defects.
7. Abnormal uterine bleeding
8. Anemia (especially with copper IUD)
9. Vascular erosions in endometrium

The Mayo Clinic lists the side effects associated with Implanon, which ACOG mentions specifically in its report as a popular contraceptive implant option inserted in the upper arm. The side effects include abdominal or back pain, acne, increased risk of ovarian cysts, changes in vaginal bleeding, decreased sex drive, dizziness, hair loss, headaches, mild insulin resistance, mood swings and depression, nausea or upset stomach, potential interaction with other medications, sore breasts, vaginal inflammation or dryness, viral infections, and weight gain. Just what every young girl wants and needs.

Historically, while the contraceptive implants like Implanon have been provided free of charge to some low-income women, the surgery to remove them was not free, and women were saddled with the implants regardless of the amount of pain, suffering, grief, and health chaos they were causing.

The IUD must be removed by a healthcare practitioner as well, even though many women self-remove it for lack of funds to pay for the removal, risking perforation of the uterus.

With STDs at epidemic rates among teens, ACOG is encouraging IUD use for adolescents even though they are dangerous for those who currently or recently have had a sexually transmitted disease. They are painful and problematic for those who have never been pregnant—causing higher pain levels—and carry a whopping 20 percent spontaneous expulsion rate in teens. Planned Parenthood recommends them to teens because they are easy to hide. “[I]t’s one of the most private methods of birth control. No one can tell you’re using it. There’s no packaging or other evidence that might embarrass you if found,” Planned Parenthood says on its Info for Teens website. Its teen website also recommends implants like Implanon as the most effective form of birth control.

Planned Parenthood, ACOG, and the Obama administration have combined forces to wage a dangerous war on our children, and with the march toward contraceptives which cannot be easily discontinued or removed, they have ramped up the battle to the next level.

It is imperative that we act to stop the onslaught against our children by every means possible. The most immediate solution is to vote for those who would strike the HHS mandate for abortifacient contraceptives. In addition to that, we must redouble our efforts at fighting Planned Parenthood. Visit our website today to see how you can get Planned Parenthood out of your schools and out of your community.

New Abortion Facility to Open in Wichita – Location Still Unknown

By Mark S. Gietzen, Kansas RA: Wichita, KS -- Reliable confidential informants (with documentation) have informed The Kansas Coalition for Life (KCFL) that an organization calling itself the Southwind Women’s Center has purchased a building in Wichita, with the intent of opening a new Kansas abortion business. The purchase of the building was made in mid-August 2012, and the center plans to begin doing abortions as soon as the facility is ready, sometime between now and January.

Julie Burkhart, who formerly worked for eight years with the late abortion doctor George Tiller, is founder and current director of Trust Women PAC and has been working to open a Wichita abortion facility since Tiller’s abortion facility closed in 2009.

However, Ms. Burkhart’s biggest obstacle has been finding an abortion doctor willing to work in Wichita. But now, Burkhart has three of them.

One member of soon-to-be Southwind Women’s Center is a local physician, while the other two will commute to Wichita to work at the new abortion business -- most likely on a part-time basis, but they do not currently live here.

The only thing that KCFL knows with certainty about the three abortionists is that Mila Means, MD, of Valley Center, will not be one of those employed.

It is possible that the new Southwind Women's Center will be located in the building that once belonged to abortionist Tiller, but it is equally possible that the facility may end up housed in an different Wichita neighborhood. In either case, KCFL volunteers intend to be on-site to offer financial help, housing, and other forms of direct support to women who feel scared, forced into having an abortion, or trapped by circumstances beyond their control.

This sad announcement underscores the need for Kansas to pass Heartbeat Legislation as soon as possible.
