Congresswoman Defends Abortion: “We Don’t Do Children a Favor By Forcing Women To Give Birth”

On Sept. 28th, Rep. Gwen Moore (D-Wisconsin, 4th) elaborated on her support of abortion and Planned Parenthood at a press conference held by the Congressional Black Caucus. The Daily Caller reports that the Congresswoman indicated that some women are forced into carrying their unborn children to term because they can’t afford abortionsRead More

DAY 8: Fences Can't Stop Prayer - 40 Days for Life - Fall 2015

Shawn Carney, 40 Days for Life: Praying outside of abortion centers saves lives. Don't just take it from me – listen to former Planned Parenthood workers.

They report that the “no show” rate for abortion appointments goes as high as 75% when people are peacefully praying outside. If you needed motivation to go out and pray – that’s it!

This is why abortion businesses will often build fences along the sidewalk.

It happened in Boulder, Colorado … in Sacramento, California … and at the site of the first 40 Days for Life vigil in Bryan/College Station, Texas (the fence quickly came down when Planned Parenthood moved out and we moved in).

The bottom line is that abortion facility managers don’t want you to talk to – or even pray for – the women going in. It’s bad for business.

Your loving presence is too much for a fence – or a heart – to turn away.

Las Vegas, Nevada

There’s a new black iron fence around the late-term abortion center where the 40 Days for Life vigil is held ... and it blocks access to an area where volunteers were accustomed to praying. But Ken, the local leader, had a simple response: “Prayer knows no boundaries.”

The campaign kickoff event in Las Vegas drew more than 100 people, including ten pastors. But what impressed Ken the most was a 15-month-old boy. “It was only the second time in 25 years that I have been able to hold a child saved through pro-life efforts in which I was involved,” he said.
The boy’s mother had arrived at the abortion center and was met by one of the volunteers. But the mom spoke Spanish and the volunteer spoke English. They quickly found another vigil participant to serve as interpreter. The baby she was carrying was her family’s fifth child – and first son.

Volunteers are praying that this abortion center will shut its doors. “It would be the second to close where 40 Days for Life has prayed in Las Vegas,” Ken said.  “We pray it will close miraculously during this campaign!”

Las Cruces, New Mexico
Mark in Las Cruces shared the good news of two turnarounds – something they rarely find out about because of the logistics of the abortion center and where the prayer volunteers are allowed to stand.

“To have two in one day is unprecedented for us,” he said. Both women left the abortion facility to seek life-affirming support and guidance from the local pregnancy help center.
Mark also noted the participation of John, a Christian Native American who prayed to Jesus in his traditional Lakota language. John told him that “life and family are very sacred in his heritage.”

San Ramon, California
The San Ramon campaign had a very enthusiastic visitor. A young man pulled up and called out to the four Knights of Columbus on the sidewalk, “I love you guys! Because of you, my wife and I kept our baby! Keep it up!”

The same guy showed up the next day, thanking 40 Days for Life volunteers for making a difference in his life.

Just one day later, a mom stopped to share her story. She was given a distressing prenatal diagnosis and advised to have an abortion. But she just didn’t feel right about that, and said “no.”

She then pointed to the perfectly healthy little girl in the back seat of her car. She was excited to see the vigil and thanked the people for being there.

“With prayer, God can use our simple gesture and bring forth life, hope and joy,” said one of the San Ramon team members. “Trust that HE is at work in YOU!”

Today, Cecile Richards Admitted She Lied! Planned Parenthood Doesn't Do Mammograms

During today’s third Congressional hearing into Planned Parenthood potentially illegally selling aborted babies and their body parts, the CEO of the abortion company essentially admitted she lied. In 2011, reeling from a vote in the House of Representatives that would deny any and all taxpayer funding, the Planned Parenthood abortion business turned to its non-abortion “services” to defend the need for the government dole. U.S. House Continues to Stand With Life

Pitts: “This bill at its core is about choice as well as protecting the lives of millions of unborn babies across America.”

WASHINGTON, DC – The House of Representatives today approved H.R. 3495, the Women’s Public Health and Safety Act, authored by Rep. Sean Duffy (R-WI), another bill that would help to protect innocent infant lives. This bill would provide states with more flexibility so that a state is able to choose to only include in its Medicaid program health care providers who do not perform, or participate in the performance of, elective abortions. H.R. 3495 was approved by a vote of 236-193.

Energy and Commerce Committee Vice Chairman Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) said, “You take a district like mine in Tennessee, there are zero Planned Parenthood affiliates in my district. Zero. There are 16 Community Health Centers. … What we are doing is encouraging the states to take the responsibility, make the determination, of where this money ought to be.”

Energy and Commerce Health Subcommittee Chairman Joe Pitts (R-PA) added, “This bill at its core is about choice as well as protecting the lives of millions of unborn babies across America. … States should be able to work with providers who prioritize and respect life, and exclude organizations whose business model is built around the destruction of life.”

The Energy and Commerce Committee has been fighting to protect human life and hold Planned Parenthood accountable.

DAY 7: No One Grows Up Wanting An Abortion - 40 Days for Life - Fall 2015

Shawn Carney, 40 Days for Life: Abortion is generational.

It impacts parents, grandparents and siblings who will never know the child. It also alters the future, as the child will never be able to leave a mark on the world … or have children or grandchildren

It would seem that abortion should be unthinkable.

No woman grows up wanting to have an abortion. But women are often pressured ... and told it’s the best way out of a bad situation.

The woman may be single and afraid. She may have no income. But the baby is not the problem; the problem is the bad situation.

Today, we hear about two young women. One found strength to overcome that worldly pressure.

Please pray that the other may do likewise.

Tempe, Arizona

“It’s complicated.” That’s become something of a catch phrase, but Lisa in Tempe says it’s a good description of the situation one young woman finds herself in – a young woman who needs your prayers.

Volunteers spoke to her outside the Planned Parenthood abortion center. Actually, it was her mother who started the conversation. “What can you do to help?” she asked.

The response was simple. “Well, what do you need help with?”

The volunteers were handed a rather fuzzy ultrasound image. After a brief discussion, the young woman, her mother – and her grandmother, who was also with them – were directed to a pregnancy help center where they could get some life-affirming guidance.

They visited, and they talked. But the young woman still has an appointment for an abortion.

“Please pray for divine intervention and that the walls of fear will come tumbling down,” Lisa requested. “Give this family strength, dear Lord, to carry this pregnancy to term.”

Kitchener, Ontario

Two 40 Days for Life prayer volunteers were standing near Freeport Hospital in Kitchener when a young woman, who looked to be about 19, walked up and asked what they were doing.

They explained that they are peacefully praying for mothers contemplating abortion, so that they may think twice about it and decide against it, to spare the life of the baby.

The young woman then shared her story. She was in this hospital’s waiting room ... when she was 16 years old and pregnant. Her mother and other family members were pressuring her to have an abortion, to “get rid of the baby.”

On the day of her appointment, a nurse also told her – numerous times – that she should have the abortion. But as time for the abortion drew closer, something came over her.

She simply could not go through with it.

She left the hospital … and today she is the very happy mother of a 2-year-old son.

“She thanked us for doing what we do,” said Ewelina in Kitchener. She also she would try to come out to stand and pray with the volunteers.

“Thanks be to God,” Ewelina said, “for you – for giving up your time to be a witness for the unborn and saving lives!”

DAY 6: 41 Spared From Abortion - 40 Days For Life - Fall 2015

Shawn Carney, 40 Days for Life: Mondays are always good during 40 Days for Life.

Monday is the day we update all the reports of babies spared from abortion during your 40 Days for Life vigils.

So let's start the week with some good news! Thus far during this campaign, we have reports of ...

... 41 babies saved ... that we know of!

Here are just a few of those stories.

Windsor, Ontario
On the first day of the campaign, a man approached one of the volunteers in Windsor and said, “I just want to shake your hand!”

He went on to explain that “we were going to have an abortion and when we got here someone was outside with a sign and praying and because of that we decided not to have the abortion.

He said they saw this vigil participant as a sign that they should not go through with the abortion. According to Laurie in Windsor, “Our volunteer reported that he was elated. Praise the Lord!”

Pensacola, Florida

One of the volunteers was praying outside the abortion center in mid-morning on the first day of the campaign when three cars parked near the building’s side entrance backed out … and stopped near the vigil participants.

A young man got out of the car and came a few steps toward the people praying and said, “We’ve decided not to go through with it. I’ve been waiting for my girlfriend to get here, and I just sent her a text message telling her not to come.”

The young woman responded and said she indeed would not be coming to the abortion facility.  About 20 minutes later, he came back to tell the volunteers that he had been waiting up at the corner of the street, just in case his girlfriend changed her mind and decided to come anyway.

Thankfully, she never showed up.

“God bless you both,” said the volunteer he’d been talking to. “You’ve made the right decision.”< He thanked them … and drove away.

Worcester, Massachusetts
Lee in Worcester reports their first save of this campaign came on Day 2.

One of the faithful, year-round sidewalk counselors was at her post that morning while 40 Days for Life volunteers prayed nearby. She was able to talk with a young woman arriving at Planned Parenthood for an abortion … and convinced her to go to the pregnancy help center across the street first to talk about her options.

The help center’s experienced counselors took over, found out what factors in her life were leading her to think abortion was her only option, and offered advice about how she could address those factors.

Once they were able to find solutions to several problems, she realized it would be possible to have her baby … and she left smiling.

Lee added that there’s something you can do to help. “Please pray for her that everything goes smoothly from here on out!”

DAY 5: Join All The New Faces! - 40 Days For Life - Fall 2015

Shawn Carney, 40 Days for Life: In this first week of the 40 Days for Life campaign, the enthusiasm level has been huge ... especially among new participants.

I’ve had the privilege of helping to kick off 40 Days for Life in Nashville and Louisville. Steve Karlen, our North American outreach director, attended events in Wisconsin, Ohio and Illinois. Robert Colquhoun, our international outreach director, traveled to Slovenia and has more countries to visit soon.

Wherever we go, we’re meeting faithful people who have been coming out to the vigil for the very first time.

If you haven't gone to one of the 307 campaigns currently under way, then find the one nearest you and take part!

We need to ask for God’s mercy in bringing the scandal of abortion to an end ... and that comes through prayer.

Here's a quick tour of what can happen when you go and pray:

Harrisburg, Pennsylvania

The Hillcrest abortion facility was scheduled to be open for abortions the morning of the Harrisburg kickoff event. “Praise God they were not!” said Kathy, the local 40 Days for Life director. She was overjoyed that no babies lost their lives on this day.

“I was greatly encouraged to once again see longtime prayer warriors at Hillcrest, as well as new faces there to pray at the abortion business for the very first time,” she said. “We were a cross-denominational group of about 40 people.”

Rev. Luke Zimmerman, pastor of Calvary Lutheran Church in Mechanicsburg, led prayer. “We sang, we prayed together and encouraged each other to come back to pray,” said Kathy, “and to bring others!

Lansing, Michigan

The 40 Days for Life kickoff at Glad Tidings Church drew a crowd of several dozen people, united in faith and conscience, to see an end to abortion in Lansing. The kickoff and candlelight vigil were held just blocks away from the WomanCare abortion facility.

They heard the story of a couple who remained silent about their own abortion for 22 years, but found healing through Christ's love at a Rachel's Vineyard retreat. Fr. John Byers helped conclude the evening by leading the group in prayer outside the abortion center.

Klamath Falls, Oregon
Diane checked in from the Klamath Falls campaign, where the vigil is held near the county health department. “It was a warm 80 degrees,” she said. “Here in South Central Oregon, east of the Cascades, we use umbrellas for the sun as well as the rain.”

The campaign is growing, Diane explained, as more volunteers are finding out about the vigil and joining to pray for an end to abortion. Participation has tripled since the first campaign. “God is good!” she said.

Cincinnati, Ohio

Mary in Cincinnati says the opening of the 40 Days for Life vigil featured “moving and inspiring words from Fr. Cyril Whitaker, S.J., an associate professor at Xavier University, who is always so appreciative of our public prayer witness and perseverance.” Fr. Matt Cushing from St. Anthony Parish in Northern Kentucky led the closing prayer. “I believe we are off to a good start for this campaign!” she said.

Birmingham, England
Birmingham is now conducting its ninth 40 Days for Life campaign. “We had a record turnout for the kickoff,” said Isabel, the local coordinator, “with 135 people. It was great to see lots of new faces.”

Isabel noted good support from evangelical Christians in the area as well as the continued support from the local Catholic seminary, with groups who pray for three hours each week at the vigil. Archbishop Bernard Longley, who has prayed outside the abortion center, again voiced his support.

“Considering the great support we are getting in Birmingham,” Isabel said, “I fail to see how the abortion clinic can hold open its gates much longer to prevail against the continued prayers being faithfully offered on its doorstep.”

Day 4: Great Media Coverage - 40 Days For Life - Fall 2015

Shawn Carney, 40 Days for Life:  It may come as a surprise ... but the media has been a big boost during the first week of this 40 Days for Life campaign.

It's probably not news to you that for the most part, the mainstream national media ignores abortion. But that isn't always true at the local level.

Countless local news reporters and editors are more than willing to let us tell our side of the story ... reaching thousands of people who've never heard of 40 Days for Life – or never even known there was an abortion center in town.

As a bonus, local 40 Days for Life leaders are great in media interviews!

Abortion workers usually won't go on camera. Some may only do so to read a statement from a corporate office. They can come off very distant and cold ... while 40 Days for Life leaders are warm and joyful.

Here are a few campaigns that have had the opportunity to share their stories ... thanks to local media that were willing to listen.

The Green Bay Press-Gazette spoke to local coordinator Jim Ball and other volunteers. Jim explained to the reporter that 40 Days for Life is peaceful and consists of “constant prayer and quiet witness.”

Jim says the volunteers are praying that Planned Parenthood will close its doors.

The goal is always to end the killing of babies,” he said. “That’s just simply it. What a mother carries in her womb is a human being. Every medical school will teach that, even though legally we won’t admit that.”

Fifteen previous 40 Days for Life campaigns have been held in Green Bay. But this year’s vigil has grown due to outrage over the Planned Parenthood aborted baby parts trafficking scandal.

Columbus, Georgia\

WRBL-TV, the area’s CBS affiliate, covered the 40 Days for Life kickoff event in Columbus.

“The campaign’s goal is to end abortion,” the station reported. “Pro-life supporters across the country will gather outside of abortion clinics for 40 days to pray for everyone involved in the abortion process.”

The station interviewed Kelly, who became pregnant when she was a teen and visited three abortion centers.

“When I went to that abortion clinic I needed help and I needed somebody I could talk to.  I didn’t necessarily want an abortion.  I just needed help,” she said. She added that she was grateful for the decision she made to keep her son.

While many of the 307 vigils are held outside Planned Parenthood centers, Columbus is one of the cities where Planned Parenthood doesn’t operate. The vigil there is outside an abortion facility called Columbus Women’s Health Organization.

Tri-Cities, Washington

KEPR-TV, the local CBS station, sent a crew to the Tri-Cities kickoff and noted the festive atmosphere included food, music and various speakers.

“This event was the start to 40 Days for Life – a worldwide movement,” the station reported. “The organizers say it's 40 days of prayer, vigil, fasting and community outreach to work towards ending abortion.”

“People will sign up for hour long slots and go and pray at Planned Parenthood as a peaceful and silent witness to end abortion,” said Karen Nyman, coordinator of the rally.

The report noted that 40 Days for Life has been going on in the Tri-Cities area since 2008 … and observed that here, as in many other locations, interest has picked up in the wake of Planned Parenthood’s recent spate of bad publicity.

DAY 3: Babies Saved Already! 40 Days for Life - Fall 2015

Shawn Carney, 40 Days for Life:  This 40 Days for Life campaign is just getting started ... and we already know of at least 12 babies that have been spared from abortion! We’ll share specifics in the days ahead, but these early results point to one thing ...

... your presence matters!

A few days ago, the moms of those 12 babies – and many others right now where you live – had abortion appointments. They had their minds made up ... and showed up for their abortion.

But when they arrived at the abortion center, they encountered something they didn’t expect: hope.

God wants to offer hope to those seeking abortion ... and He can use you to do that.

Your peaceful presence is the last – often unexpected – sign of hope.

But for the woman who goes through with the abortion, your presence is alsothe first sign of mercy. That is why it’s important to be there before, during and after the abortion.

In this campaign, there are 40 Days for Life vigils taking place in 16 countries. Find the one nearest you and be that sign of God's hope!
We start today in a place that is doing 40 Days for Life for the first time and offering hope ... 24 hours a day!

Bogota, Colombia

The call was put out in Bogota – and the faithful came. They came at midnight, and they didn’t go home. Throughout the night, they were joined by others … and a steady crowd of people continued to pray for an end to abortion throughout the day.

“Last night, in the middle of the night, there were more than 200 peoplewith us to pray for life, for the end of abortion,” reads the report from the team in Bogota. “Thank you Lord! We invite you to register and come during these forty days – all the times you can.”

Their Facebook page chronicled the first day of the first official campaign in Colombia:
  • Midnight. We're waiting for you at Santa Ana Church to participate in prayer and a candlelight vigil for life for our country.
  • 2:37 am.
It's cold, but the heart is full of love for you, Lord!

  • 6:51 am. We are persevering in prayer. Today, this is a territory of peace and life.

  • 8:40 am. We're praying for God’s mercy for all of us, that we have offended the Lord with our sin.

  • 12:40 pm. Already half a day of staying awake with prayer and fasting – because we love you, Lord, and we want to take care of the heart of women, and the life of their babies.

    • 7:35 pm. Many people have joined our prayer, including police officers who have come with devotion to ask for the Lord’s mercy and the conversion of the world.
We look forward to seeing what God does in response to all the faithful in Colombia!

    Cleveland, Bedford Heights, Painesville, Ohio

Steve Karlen, our North American outreach director, attended an event in Cleveland that was a combined kickoff for three campaigns.

Steve describes Cleveland coordinator John Noall as “a rock star. He retired early so that he could have more time to serve God. That, of course, includes doing a whale of a job leading 40 Days for Life.”

The team is still celebrating the recent closure of a Cleveland abortion facility. They’ve also learned that another center is now open only four days a month.

“I also met a young man,” Steve said, “who told me an ex-girlfriend got pregnant. He said he was promiscuous at the time and thought it might be his baby. It wasn't, but he helped pay for the abortion. He was so haunted that it became a turning point in his life. But he eventually found faith … and when he learned of 40 Days for Life at his church, he jumped in.”

Here’s the Face of the 20-Week Abortion Ban Debate

by Kelsey Harkness:  At 29 years old, Danielle Pickering was faced with an impossible decision: Save her own life, or that of her unborn son.

“We chose not to let them induce me to save his life, at the risk of my life,” Danielle told The Daily Signal, referencing her experience with a life-threatening condition that threatened her own life, and that of her unborn child.

Today, Micah is three years old with big brown eyes and perfectly shaped curls.

He faces minor chronic lung disease, asthma, and has a slight speech delay. Other than that, his parents call him “absolutely normal”—with one exception.

“He loves to vacuum, help me clean, [and] he loves to help me take the clothes out of the dryer,” laughed Danielle.

Having beat the odds, the pro-life community is now making Micah the face of the national debate surrounding late-term abortions.

This week, the Pickering family—Danielle and her husband, Clayton—lobbied Senators to vote to advance a bill that would ban most abortions after 20 weeks.

The vote came on the same day the Pope arrived in Washington, D.C., and included exceptions for incest, rape and the life of the mother.

But right after a press conference in Washington D.C. with the Pickerings and supportive lawmakers and pro-life leaders, Democrats used a filibuster to block the vote from occurring.

Under the legislation, Danielle could have still chosen to abort her child.

Supporters of the bill hoped her story would inspire people to realize the possibilities of saying no to abortion.

Danielle’s water broke at 21 weeks, just over half of a typical 40-week pregnancy. Sensing something wrong, she went to the doctor. But being so early in the pregnancy, doctors missed what had happened and sent her home.

For the next week, Danielle went about her regular day-to-day life. “I went to yard sales, cooked dinners, all with my water broken,” she said.

A week later, she started having contractions and was brought to the University of Iowa Children’s Hospital, where doctors told her she would stay for the rest of her pregnancy—whether that was three hours or three months.

At the hospital, doctors diagnosed her with amnionitis, a bacterial infection that resulted from her water being broken for so long without any antibiotics. Doctors wanted to induce the pregnancy so they could treat her life-threatening infection, but Danielle and her husband refused.

“The longer they didn’t treat this infection, the more she was in danger,” Clayton said. “But every minute that we didn’t was better for him.”

“It was me or him at that point, and we chose him as long as we could,” Danielle said.

    A Chance At Survival

A study published in the New England Journal of Medicine found that 23 percent of infants born at 22 weeks survived with medical treatment. One in three of those survivors faced serious impairments, such as blindness, deafness or cerebral palsy.

Doctors warned the Pickering’s that should they fight to keep their son alive, he would likely face one of these problems.

“They said if he would live, he would have serious medical impairments,” Clayton said.

On July 25, 2012, at 22 weeks and four days, Danielle naturally went into labor and gave birth to their first son, who they named Micah. He was one pound and six ounces.

Upon birth, he cried twice—something doctors said would be impossible, given his lungs had only two to three weeks to develop.

When they whisped Micah away, Danielle thought she’d never see him again—alive, at least.

    Beating the Odds

The Pickering’s credit their Christian Baptist faith for Micah’s survival, but also say it couldn’t be done without their doctors.

The total cost of keeping Micah alive was more than $1 million. “His medical bill was over 100 pages,” Danielle said. “We had insurance and that covered 100 percent, thankfully.”

Because the medical community is in flux over when babies can survive outside the womb, few hospitals offer treatment for babies at such an early stage in development. The Pickerings say if they had gone to Jefferson County Hospital, just over an hour away from the University of Iowa Children’s Hospital, Micah wouldn’t have survived.

“A lot of hospitals, even if they wanted to, couldn’t save Micah,” Clayton said.

Having successfully given birth to Micah, Danielle and Clayton believe they have a duty to do what they can to save other lives that might otherwise be aborted.

“They say it’s not a baby, but I think when you look at Micah’s picture when he was 22 weeks…maybe that will help people see him in a different life they didn’t before,” Danielle said.

“He’s as full of life today as he was at 22 weeks,” Clayton added.

    DAY 2: Courageous Clerics - 40 Days for Life - Fall 2015

Shawn Carney, 40 Days for LifeLike many people, I was first inspired to get involved in the pro-life movement because of courageous leadership from the clergy.

Countless pastors from many churches have helped spread 40 Days for Life … and they all need our prayers as they proclaim the Word of God in a hostile world.

Prominent Evangelical, Catholic and Protestant leaders have endorsed 40 Days for Life and encouraged the faithful to defend God's most vulnerable among us. You can see these leaders – and their words of endorsement – at:

One of those leaders is dominating the media this week, and he will be visiting three major cities where 40 Days for Life vigils are taking place – Pope Francis!

Pope Francis has supported 40 Days for Life around the globe and was able to meet our international outreach director, Robert Colquhoun, in Rome.

As Pope Francis visits the United States, local 40 Days for Life leaders are reaching out to those traveling to Washington, New York and Philadelphia. One leader said, “If people are coming to town to see the pope, they’re also invited to come pray at our vigil!”

No matter where you live, you can find your closest campaign location here:

Today’s update starts with a report from Robert, who’s visiting team leaders and volunteers in Slovenia … and ends with prayer for all of our shepherds.

    Ljubljana, Slovenia

Slovenia is hosting its second 40 Days for Life campaign. Matjaz Venta, the local leader, has a very deep faith and is passionate about prayer and the pro-life cause.

Abortion was legalised during the communist era. Although communism came to an end 25 years ago, it still pervades the country’s mentality. There are 4,000 abortions a year among the two million population.

Their prayer vigil is outside the local hospital, where abortions are performed in three different locations inside. Nada, one of the volunteers, tells me they received spiteful responses from some members of the public following their first campaign, although there were positive comments too.

Around the corner, we prayed in a church which was confiscated by the communists and turned into a film studio. Also during that era, abortions were performed in the Jesuit house. The abortion room is now a chapel. It is a telling story of the spiritual journey of the country.

I look forward to what God has in store for Slovenia!

Thanks to Robert Colquhoun for this update from Ljubljana.

    White Plains, New York

This 40 Days for Life campaign kicked off with a rally in front of Planned Parenthood – a building featuring a big pink banner with the words, “health care happens here.” Gerald Yeung, the local leader, told the group that God is always doing something good – and it often involves 40 Days for Life.

Fr. Thomas Kallumady, pastor of St. John the Evangelist / Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Parish, thanked the attendees for witnessing to their faith and their “love for the unborn and the living.”  Maria Teresa Rueda prayed in Spanish for God's protection over the unborn and their parents.

Sister Shirley Ann of the Sisters of Life prayed that God's mercy, grace and strength would “overtake every woman that comes to this Planned Parenthood.”

It Beings Again: DAY 1: It All Starts Today! - 40 Days For Life - Fall 2015

Shawn Carney, 40 Days for Life: Today is the first day of the 17th coordinated international 40 Days for Life campaign ... as 40 days of prayer and fasting … peaceful vigil … and community outreach begins in 307 locations.

Find the nearest one and get involved!

If it’s the first time you’re joining us, welcome! Here's what you can expect:
    • God using the 40-day time period to bring about transformation in you and your community
    • Daily campaign updates showing you how God is at work ... including babies saved from abortion, workers experiencing a change of heart and many other inspiring results
    • A daily scripture and devotional to help guide you as you pray to end abortion where YOU live
Here’s a quick look at two events where 40 Days for Life headquarters team members helped get campaigns off to an enthusiastic start.

    Manhattan, New York

Manhattan's first-ever 40 Days for Life campaign kicked off on Saturday night with a crowd of over 100 pro-life New Yorkers. The vigil will take place outside the Margaret Sanger Planned Parenthood Center in lower Manhattan.

40 Days for Life’s national director, David Bereit, was the guest speaker, sharing the inspiring story of how 40 Days for Life started. Of the abortion center named after Planned Parenthood’s founder, David said, “This is where it began and this is where it must end.”

Campaign leader Jill Gadwood spoke about the need to bring 40 Days for Life to New York City, which is infamously known as the "abortion capital of America."

“I'm so encouraged by the amount of email I've seen about our upcoming campaign,” Jill said.

The videos exposing the Planned Parenthood baby parts scandal have helped build interest in Manhattan.

“I'm sure many of you have already seen some of these videos and are disgusted by them,” she said, “but you may not be sure what you can do about it.  Well, I have just the thing. Join Manhattan's first-ever 40 Days for Life campaign to pray and witness for an end to abortion.”

    Aurora, Illinois

Steve Karlen, the 40 Days for Life North American outreach director, helped launch the Aurora campaign. Being there brought back memories for Steve.

“My wife grew up in nearby Naperville,” he said, “and that is where we lived in 2007, when the Planned Parenthood abortion mega-center in Aurora was being finalized. That was our first exposure to 40 Days for Life – and a big reason why we got involved.”

Eric Scheidler of the Pro-Life Action League, who organized that first 40 Days for Life effort in Aurora, recalled the massive response when Planned Parenthood was trying to open … and told the crowd of the need to bring back that same spirit.

One of the rally speakers told a truly remarkable story. His mom tried taking multiple drugs to have an abortion, but they did not work. She tried to schedule a surgical abortion, but the doctor refused to do it. He attributes his survival to prayer. He now wants to start a maternity safe house in Ghana.

As Pope Francis Visits, New York Times Lauds Pro-Abortion Nancy Pelosi as a “Strong Catholic”

Dr. Bill Smith, Editor's comment: As much as mankind and the likes of Nancy Pelosi may "mock God," God is not mocked as He is Holy. Our Lord Jesus Christ has already addressed the fate of those whom harm "these little ones." While Grace gives us a covering, the Holiness of God is a consuming light of destruction for evil. As for Nancy Pelosi, her destiny rests not in the religion she falsely practices but in the fact that although there is forgiveness, one must acknowledge to the "Father, I have sinned" and mean it with a contrite heart knowing that God alone is Holy. Without the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, no words of "But I am Catholic" or "I am a Christian" will gain forgiveness. An individual's refusal (pride) to submit to the voice of the Holy Spirit to repent and not to do or to promote evil, expands the person's wide path to Hell. No amount of taking communion or claiming membership in the Church can save her. She must like all of us bow in absolute submission before a Holy God and evidence the power of the Holy Spirit in her life by becoming aware of her  depraved humanity and to also stop the blasphemy of gift of Christ's sacrifice ( his body and blood continually evidenced in communion) which taken repeatedly in the flesh and not the spirit leads one to greater deception and to death. Pelosi's denial of God's word and her promoting of abortion were addressed by Pope Benedict XVI in Feb, 2009 when she was granted an audience with him. She cannot claim ignorance of the truth. While we cannot set in judgement of her, we cannot embrace her preaching of sin and destruction and are free to 1) to oppose that sin and to choose life and 2) to pray for the sinner to repent or to be removed by God.

The New York Times‘ Jennifer Steinhauer celebrated the faith of the fiercely pro-abortion former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi of California on Tuesday, under a laughter of a headline, “At Divisive Moment, Pelosi’s Faith Coexists With Belief in Abortion Rights.” The online headline was even “stronger” in silliness: “In Pelosi, Strong Catholic Faith and Abortion Rights Coexist.” Read More

Obama Tells Pope “We Cherish Religious Liberty,” But Forces Christians to Obey HHS Abortion Mandate

During a morning speech welcoming pro-life Pope Francis to the White House, President Barack Obama, with a straight face, told the leader of the Catholic Church that America loves “religious liberty.” But his administration has attempted to force Christians across the country to pay for abortion-causing drugs in violation of their conscience without any religious exemption. Democrats Blocked, For At Least Today, Pro-Life Senate Bill Banning Late-Term Abortions After 20 Weeks

Senate Democrats today blocked a vote on a pro-life Senate bill to ban late-term abortions — a bill that would save as many as 18,000 unborn babies form abortions each and every year. The Senate voted today to stop the Democrats’ filibuster of the Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, legislation that would ban abortions after 20 weeks — as neither Congress nor state legislatures can vote to ban all abortions under Roe v. Wade. Read More

Whoopi Goldberg Slams Pro-Life Pope Francis, Says There’s “Nothing in the Bible About Abortion”

The hosts of The View on Tuesday ranted about Catholicism, the Pope and his visit to America. Whoopi Goldberg, offering her thoughts on the faith, complained about Pope Francis ciscussing abortion: “Well, there’s nothing in the Book that says anything about abortion. Let’s make sure of that. The Ten Commandments are the Ten Commandments. There’s only ten.” Read More
