Arkansas & Nat'l Right To Life Mourn Former Congressman Jay Dickey

WASHINGTONThe National Right to Life Committee today joined with its affiliate, Arkansas Right to Life in mourning the death of former Congressman Jay Dickey. Dickey, who served in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1993 to 2001, died last night at age 77. He had been a member of the Arkansas Right to Life board of directors since 2013.

“Jay Dickey was an outspoken pro-life advocate throughout his tenure in the House of Representatives,
” said Carol Tobias, president of National Right to Life. “Former Congressman Dickey leaves a tremendous pro-life legacy, and his steadfast advocacy on behalf of the most defenseless members of the human family will not be forgotten.”

Among Mr. Dickey’s biggest accomplishments during his tenure, was passage of the Dickey-Wicker Amendment, co-sponsored with then-Rep. Roger Wicker (R-Ms.), which, since 1995, has been a provision of the annual appropriations bills for federal health programs. This law prohibits federal funding of 'the creation of a human embryo or embryos for research purposes; or research in which a human embryo or embryos are destroyed, discarded, or knowingly subjected to risk of injury or death . . .' Any member of Congress who votes for legislation to repeal this law is voting to allow federal funding of human embryo farms, created through the use of human cloning.

In 2001, Arkansas Right to Life honored Mr. Dickey with its highest honor, the Mary Rose Doe award, in recognition of his leadership for the right-to-life cause.

“Jay Dickey devoted himself to advancing laws that protect unborn children and their mothers, the medically dependent and disabled, and the elderly”
said Rose Mimms, executive director of Arkansas Right to Life. “Pro-life Arkansans were proud to call Jay Dickey a dear friend. We will miss his sharp wit, warm smile, and outstanding leadership on behalf of the right-to-life cause.”

Evaluating Miracles

by Kerby Anderson: The Bible describes many miracles, but we also have other literature and even modern claims of miracles. Is there any way to evaluate these claims in a rational way?

Dr. Timothy McGrew (Chairman of the Department of Philosophy at Western Michigan University) was recently on my radio program. He has developed a six-part test that uses the acrostic DOUBTS. The resurrection of Jesus Christ passes the filter while many other miracle claims quickly fail.

D is for distant events. For example, the miracles Apollonius supposedly did in India are first reported far away in the Roman Empire. O is for opinions that are already established. We should suspect stories of miracles that seem to affirm standing opinions to those in power. Dr. McGrew points to the healing miracles attributed to of Vespasius as an illustration. U is for uncertain events. A rainstorm that happens that helped an army is probably not a miracle but a natural occurrence and fortunate coincidence.

B is for belated reports. Some of the reports of miracles were written long after the events. Consider the so-called miracles performed by Pythagoras. He lived around 500 BC. The first reports we have of these supposed miracles occur in AD 300.

T is for trivial things. Thomas Henry Huxley once said that if twelve good Englishmen told him they saw a centaur trotting down Pickadilly Lane, he would not believe it. But this event makes no claims on my life and it doesn’t change my doctrine or worldview. The resurrection is a much different claim. S is for self-serving miracle reports. Some of the claims that Joseph Smith made could be put in this category. There could be another motives for his claims.

This test is a good one to use when we come across claims of miracles.

Iowa House Passes Bill to Defund Planned Parenthood Abortion Biz

Iowa House lawmakers approved a budget plan Wednesday that would defund Planned Parenthood and other abortion groups, the Quad-City Times reports.

The budget plan, which now moves to the state Senate, coincides with state legislation to defund abortion groups. The bill would end state participation in a federal family planning program and create a new state-funded program for health care groups that do not do abortions. Money to fund the program would come from a federal block grant for child and family services.

The Courier reports Planned Parenthood of the Heartland in Iowa received about $1 million taxpayer dollars through Medicaid in 2016. . . . NAME / Source

Alabama Senate Passes Pro-Life Bill Saying There is No Right to Abortion

Alabama state Senators advanced a bill this week that would add the right to life for unborn babies into the Alabama Constitution. The proposal would write into the Alabama Constitution that it is state policy to recognize and support the sanctity of unborn life, according to AP.

The state Senate approved the bill in a 25-7 vote. The measure passed the state House in March. Now the amendment will have to be approved by voters on the 2018 ballot after it clears the House again following changes.

State Rep. Matt Fridy, who sponsored the bill, said the amendment would not make abortions illegal in Alabama immediately; it would protect unborn babies’ right to life in the event that Roe v. Wade is overturned and the power to legislate abortion is returned to the states.  . . . Read More

Christian University Cuts Ties With Planned Parenthood After Pro-Life Students Protest

In a huge win for the Students for Life group at Whitworth University in Spokane, Washington, the school has officially cut ties with the nation’s largest abortion provider, Planned Parenthood.

In an email to the campus today (full text below), Whitworth University president Beck Taylor wrote: “I recently instructed the Dornsife Center for Community Engagement not to renew that relationship. This is the only formal partnership the university currently has with Planned Parenthood. At the end of the current academic year, Whitworth will no longer offer credit-bearing service-learning placements or internships with the organization.”

Whitworth University bills itself as a Christian school of higher education.

“The school deserves credit for cutting Planned Parenthood from their campus community and providing an example of a Christian university making an attempt to educate and support students, rather than send them to the nation’s largest abortion provider,” said Kristan Hawkins, president of Students for Life of America.

In October 2016, the Students for Life group at Whitworth University petitioned the school to sever their relationship with Planned Parenthood. The school offered for-credit internships and was listed as a ‘community partner’ on their website. . . .

Planned Parenthood IS the Problem

Planned Parenthood president Cecile Richards is working hard to boost her abortion group’s image amid numerous scandals and efforts to cut off its taxpayer funding.

On Tuesday, the highly paid non-profit head visited Kingston, New York to host a round-table meeting with local abortion activists and the media, The Daily Freeman reports.

Richards and local Planned Parenthood supporters talked up the abortion chain and claimed that women will suffer if it Congress cuts off its taxpayer funding.

. . . What Planned Parenthood is the “solution” to, either Richards did not specify or the report did not mention.

The abortion chain prefers to talk about its non-abortion services because they are less controversial. But it has become very clear that Planned Parenthood is first and foremost an abortion provider. Every year, its facilities kill more than 300,000 unborn baby boys and girls in abortions – approximately one-third of all abortions in the U.S.

. . . Data from the abortion group’s own annual reports show a growing focus on abortions and a continued decrease in its non-abortion services. From 2009 to 2014, “cancer screenings” dropped from 1,830,811 to just 682,208. “Breast exams/breast care” fell by more than half, from 830,312 in 2009 to 363,803 in 2014 and Pap smear tests dropped nearly two-thirds, from 904,820 to 271,539. In that same time period, Planned Parenthood’s abortion numbers remained steady, hovering at around 320,000 per year.

Planned Parenthood is not the solution for women seeking cancer treatments. It doesn’t do mammograms, and its cancer screenings are dropping rapidly.

It is not the solution for pregnant women looking for prenatal care or information about parenting or adoption resources. A recent investigation by Live Action revealed that prenatal care basically is non existent at Planned Parenthood, and ultrasounds are denied to patients unless they want an abortion.

It is not the solution for victims of sexual abuse either. Planned Parenthood has been caught multiple times failing to report suspected sex trafficking and sexual abuse of minors.

And it is not the solution to women’s health care. Across the country, community health centers outnumber Planned Parenthood facilities by more than 20 to 1 and offer more comprehensive health care without doing abortions. . . . Read More

Abortion Activist Steals Pro-Life Sign and Hits Priest With Vehicle

An Ohio pro-life group said an abortion activist injured one of its volunteers and tried to steal several pro-life signs earlier this month outside a Columbus, Ohio abortion clinic.

Created Equal posted a video of the April 8 incident this week, showing a local priest named Father Joseph Klee almost being run over by a vehicle driven by an abortion activist.

The pro-life group said the abortion activist was Michelle Davis, an abortion clinic volunteer, and they said police charged her with theft and “miscellaneous incident (assault).” LifeNews was unable to find more information about the incident on the Columbus Police Department website, which lists daily police reports.

The video shows a pro-life volunteer running toward the abortion activist’s vehicle and calling out repeatedly, “You’re gonna hit a pedestrian!” and “Stop!” as the abortion activist drove away.

Klee said he was in front of the vehicle and was hit by it as he tried to move out of the way. In the video, Klee’s hand was bloody. According to Created Equal, the priest had been trying to retrieve their pro-life signs when the abortion activist drove away.

“I was in front of the vehicle, and it came at me and turned the wheel toward me,” the priest told emergency responders in the video. “It almost ran me down.”

The incident took place outside the Founder’s Women’s Center, an abortion facility in Columbus that has a dubious reputation. . . . Read More

Religious Liberty Case Before High Court

by Bill Donohue: The U.S. Supreme Court is set to hear oral arguments in an important religious liberty case. The issue is pretty straight forward: when it comes to the disbursement of public funds for a secular purpose, can a state treat a religious entity in a manner that is different from a non-sectarian institution?

Trinity Lutheran Church in Columbia, Missouri applied for a state grant to pay for a playground that serves its preschool. It was turned down: aid to churches is forbidden by the Missouri Constitution. Trinity Lutheran filed suit, arguing that its religious liberty rights, as affirmed by the First Amendment, have been violated; it also maintained that the Fourteenth Amendment’s provision ensuring “equal protection before the law” has been sundered.

The amicus brief against Trinity Lutheran was filed by Americans United for Separation of Church and State, the Interfaith Alliance, and six Jewish groups. The brief is weak, in many respects.

The first weakness is evident right from the get-go. “The framers of the First Amendment and of the early state constitutions sought broadly to protect religion against the corrupting influences that could result from public funding….”

In fact, the founders allowed state churches to exist at the time of the First Amendment; there was one in Massachusetts until 1833. President Jefferson, typically cited as a defender of a strict wall separating church and state, provided public funding to the Kaskaskias Indians: the money was earmarked to build a Catholic Church. By contrast, the faithful at Trinity Lutheran are merely seeking public funds to fix their playground.

The brief takes a generous, and fundamentally dishonest, view of the origins of the Missouri Constitution. It offers a beneficent reason why aid to religious entities was banned, holding that it was done to avoid the political and social problems attendant to such aid. In fact, nativism was at work: the goal was to keep Catholics in their place.

Nearly 80 percent of the states today have a provision that was built into their constitution as a direct result of bigotry. During Reconstruction, the Ku Klux Klan and other anti-Catholics campaigned to deny aid to Catholic schools—schools that were founded to escape Protestant bigotry—and they found a sympathetic ear when Senator James Blaine took up their cause. Though he failed to amend the U.S. Constitution to reflect this goal, his effort was not in vain: one state after another changed its constitution to accomplish this end.

Some things never change. The brief has an air of paranoia to it. It raises the question of whether there might be religious symbols in the playground. What about religious classes? Will religious ceremonies take place there? Will there be any indoctrination?

It’s a playground—not a church. What are they afraid of? That the playground is going to be converted into some kind of grand venue for Bible readings? Or that unsuspecting neighbors might be targeted for proselytization, right next to the swings?

Are these lawyers even aware that voters regularly cast their ballots in church basements? Has anyone been corrupted by this practice? For that matter, if churches accommodate the government without a problem, why can’t government accommodate churches?

We have had paid chaplains in the House and Senate since the beginning of the Republic. They open each session with a prayer—in a public building—and no one, save for fanatics, is upset. If Trinity Lutheran gets its new playground, it’s a safe bet that only the zealots will lose any sleep over it.

James Woods Slams Planned Parenthood Abortion Biz . . .

. . . It’s “Not So Safe For Future Generations”

Actor James Woods is the rare Hollywood celebrity who speaks out for babies in the womb.

Known for his roles in “Casino” and “Once Upon A Time in America” and voices in “Family Guy” and Disney’s “Hercules,” Woods criticized Planned Parenthood’s abortion practices Monday on social media.

Woods posted a Planned Parenthood promotional image that claimed the abortion chain is a “safe space” for all people.

“Maybe not so safe for the future generation …” Woods wrote on Twitter above the image.

The Planned Parenthood image read: “Planned Parenthood is a safe space. We respect and honor all people regardless of race, ethnicity, gender expression, sexual orientation, socio-economic background, age, religion, body shape, size and ability.” Underneath, someone added the question “Safe for who?” — a reference to the 300,000-plus unborn babies who Planned Parenthood kills every year in abortions.

Two Abortionists Are Out of Work and Their Abortion Clinics are Closed

Last week, two abortionists found themselves out of work, at least temporarily.

Michigan abortionist Thomas Gordon has had his medical license suspended for 60 to 180 days for his failure to report several criminal convictions to the state Department of Licensing and Medical Affairs. Gordon is the sole abortionist at a Grand Rapids abortion business named Heritage Clinic.

The suspension is a start, but not enough. Gordon’s criminal past is extremely troubling, and he has no business practicing medicine whatsoever, let alone having intimate access to women in crisis situations: . . .

Always remember: the abortion industry IS. NOT. FEMINIST. Sadly, as is too often the case, Michigan officials are letting Gordon off with a slap on the wrist, requiring him to undergo “independent mental health and chemical dependency/substance abuse evaluations.” . . . Read More

Elections Have Consequences . . .

. . . Trump Defunded UNFPA & Gave Us Gorsuch, Hillary Never Would Have

If you didn’t believe that elections have consequences, the past few weeks should have been able to convince you otherwise.

In a nine-day period, the Senate (following House action in February) voted to overturn an Obama administration rule that prevented states from withholding tax funding from Planned Parenthood through the Title X program; the Trump administration notified Congress that, because the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) violates the Kemp-Kasten amendment by supporting “a program of coercive abortion or involuntary sterilization” in China, UNFPA would no longer be eligible to receive foreign aid funds from the United States; and to top it all off, the Senate confirmed Neil Gorsuch to the United States Supreme Court.

. . . The confirmation of now-Justice Trump Defunded UNFPA & Gave Us Gorsuch, Hillary Never Would Have was the high point of everything that has happened so far this past week. The Senate defeated an attempted filibuster by pro-abortion Democrats. Justice Gorsuch, a man who strongly believes in the primacy of our Constitution, is 49 years old and will hopefully be on the High Court for many, many years to come.

During the campaign last year, then-candidate Donald Trump said, “We have a very clear choice in this election. The freedoms we cherish and the constitutional values and principles our country was founded on are in jeopardy. The responsibility is greater than ever to protect and uphold these freedoms and I will appoint justices who, like Justice Scalia, will protect our liberty with the highest regard for the Constitution.” True to his word, President Trump nominated someone of outstanding caliber. In the Rose Garden swearing-in ceremony, the President said, “Americans are blessed to have in Neil Gorsuch a man who will [like Justice Antonin Scalia] be a devoted servant of the law.” . . . . Arkansas Becomes 10th State to Back Baltimore Pregnancy Center in Free Speech Case

Editor’s note. This release comes from Office of Arkansas Attorney General Leslie Rutledge.

Arkansas AG Leslie Rutledge
Arkansas Attorney General Leslie Rutledge joined nine other attorneys general on an amicus [“friend of the court”] brief to the 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals urging the court to support a religious organization’s right to freedom of speech and to offer alternatives to abortion. The brief defends the Greater Baltimore Center for Pregnancy Concerns in its fight challenging a local city ordinance that the center contends violates its constitutional rights.

“Not only does the City of Baltimore Ordinance deter the free and open exchange of ideas between this center’s staff and their visitors, but it significantly restricts the options available to women during a difficult time in their life,” said Attorney General Rutledge. “Women are entitled to fair and honest advertising about the services available at any health care facility, and it is wrong for the government to require a private religious center to deliver a message that conflicts with their religious beliefs.”

In 2009, the City of Baltimore passed an ordinance that requires that the Greater Baltimore Center for Pregnancy Concerns display a sign stating that they “do not provide or make referrals for abortion or birth control services.” But the city does not require abortion clinics to display the services they do not offer, such as adoption or prenatal care. This discriminatory double standard threatens the mission of the center and its goal to create a supportive environment for women.

The attorneys general argue in the brief that the ordinance uses consumer protection as cover to violate the First Amendment. It does so in targeting the non-commercial speech of charitable organizations who wish to communicate sincerely-held religious beliefs about abortion.

Led by West Virginia Attorney General Patrick Morrisey, Rutledge is joined on the brief by the states of Alabama, Kansas, Michigan, Nebraska, Ohio, South Carolina, Texas and Utah.

Leslie Carol Rutledge is the 56th Attorney General of Arkansas. She is the first woman and first Republican in Arkansas history to be elected to the office.

Protest Againt Trump’s Defunding UNFPA Reveals Poor Results, Lackluster Support

by Susan Yoshihara, Ph.D. (C-FAM): President Donald J. Trump cut U.S. funding to the UN Population Fund last week, and protests from Democrats, abortion groups, and UNFPA revealed UNFPA’s dogged determination to partner with abortion groups, lackluster results in improving maternal health, and alienation of constituents due to controversial promotion of sexual rights.

In a formulaic letter to Secretary of State Rex Tillerson protesting the cut, U.S. House Democrats said UNFPA does not support or participate in the “management” of “a program of coercive abortion or involuntary sterilization.” Critics point out that China’s own family planning bureaucracy could say the same thing, but that in practice coercive means such as forced abortion and sterilizations are used to execute the policy.

UNFPA’s statement this week showed its lackluster results in promoting maternal health. C-Fam’s Rebecca Oas noted that UNFPA’s 2016 stats show that “UNFPA didn’t save any women’s lives [with U.S. funding] apart from through contraception.”

The crux of UNFPA’s defense was that it has the “potential” of saving 2,340 women’s lives because they would not die in childbirth if using UNFPA-provided contraception. The International Planned Parenthood Federation, which Trump also defunded, equated this to Trump’s killing of thousands of women, tweeting, “SHAME ON U #TRUMP!” Defunding @UNFPA will lead to 2340 women’s deaths in pregnancy/childbirth.”

Oas concluded that, “UNFPA and its billion-dollar budget will undoubtedly emerge from this just fine” because the funds will be redirected to maternal health programs that have “more oversight and accountability to the American taxpayer and are subject to the Mexico City Policy, unlike UNFPA.”

Lack of oversight and partnership with abortion groups is the reason President Ronald Reagan defunded UNFPA in 1985, on the heels of the original Mexico City Policy.

In 1983 UNFPA gave Chinese and Indian officials the agency’s top award for their population control programs which were widely known to be abusive. In 1985, rather than depart China and India and recoup funding, UNFPA chose to stay on, arguing they could help steer China away from coercive tactics such as forced abortions. After some forty years that has not happened, and UNFPA’s presence has arguably made things worse both due to its moral endorsement and material support.

In 1989 UNFPA gave China $59 million to improve maternal health. Beijing then launched a violent crack-down on infractions of its one child policy after the Tiananmen Square massacre.

In 2010 historian Matthew Connelly debated UNFPA executive director Babatunde Osotimehin, asking why UNFPA has continued its partnership with the Chinese despite its abuses. Osotimehin remained unapologetic about the association.

In 2016 Osotimehin was put on the defensive in his own country of Nigeria when he promoted abortion for pregnant girls who had been abducted by Boko Haram terrorists. During a funding slump, countries scolded him for “harassing” them into contributions and African countries objected to UNFPA’s promotion of sexual activity for youth in their traditional societies.

Contributions to UNFPA topped a billion dollars last year. U.S. funds in 2015 totaled $75 million. Thirty one million of that went to core funding, the figure which Trump announced he would cut. More than half of core funding is not spent on services but on overhead such as advocacy for sexual rights for adolescents and youth, comprehensive sexuality education, and monitoring programs.

Baby in a Jar

Preborn Human Feet
by Rebecca Hagelin: “There’s a jar on the shelf with a little baby in it!” the girl nervously whispered.

Several of us were gathered around one of the lab stations in our seventh-grade science class when my wide-eyed classmate revealed her gruesome discovery.

Of course we couldn’t believe it. We all knew those crowded bookshelves in the far corner of the room. They were filled with jars of frogs and snakes and other former living things that now stood preserved in some brownish yellow liquid, made cloudy and dense by their very slowly decomposing bodies. Every specimen had that same sickening hue, long void of life and whatever color it once had.

A friend and I made our way to the back of the room amidst the clinking of test tubes and mayhem while the class of 12-year-olds tried to organize in little groups for the day’s lab activity. The year was 1974. It was a time when bunson burners, formaldehyde, scalpels and preteens regularly interacted in public school science classrooms.

It was also the year after it became legal in America to kill pre-born human babies — and put them in jars on dusty shelves along with mice and frogs.

Was it really legal? You know, to kill a baby? To put it in a jar on a shelf? These questions swamped my mind as I spotted the jar in disbelief. Crammed inside the pint-sized tomb and immersed in that same sickening liquid was a perfectly formed little baby. A human baby.

Abortion was not discussed in middle school in those days. But our gentle, kind science teacher thought the truth about the product of abortion should be known. I remember him softly saying, “God rest his soul,” as he joined us at the bookshelves in our silent contemplation. He didn’t need to expound. He didn’t have to.

But to this day I wish I knew more about the helpless little baby whose life had been snuffed out. While others were preoccupied with where our teacher got the baby, I was struck by his dead stillness. I marveled at his tiny toes, and the perfectly formed delicate rib cage barely visible through taut, translucent skin. And I had the unshakeable feeling that his death was very, very wrong.

Something is very, very wrong in a country where little human babies continue to be legally slaughtered. If more people saw their little bodies and witnessed that they are not formless blobs of tissue as Planned Parenthood tells young, unsuspecting mothers in the midst of emotional turmoil, then perhaps our American holocaust would finally end.

But the truth is largely hidden.

Thank God the Center for Medical Progress (CMP) has bravely infiltrated Planned Parenthood clinics and meetings over the last several years and carefully documented the grisly truth through undercover video.

Although California’s attorney general, to whom Planned Parenthood made numerous campaign contributions, recently charged the CMP citizen journalists with 15 criminal counts for allegedly illegally recording conversations with employees of the baby abortuaries, many of the videos can be viewed at CenterForMedicalProgress.org.

The videos and hundreds of pages of documents reveal for all the world to see how Planned Parenthood not only kills babies but often has them chopped into pieces and sold like chicken parts to those who traffic human remains.

Oh, and if you are a taxpayer, you are helping to fund the atrocities.

Find out what you can do to help persuade Congress to stop paying Planned Parenthood and to work toward protecting the pre-born and their unsuspecting moms.

Science Channel Resurrects Jesus Tomb Hoax

by Bill Donohue: The Science Channel has an Easter gift for Christians: It is resurrecting the Jesus tomb hoax first perpetrated ten years ago. “Biblical Conspiracies: Jesus Family Tomb?” airs on April 15 at 10:00 p.m.

The program probes the “potentially explosive” finding regarding the “Jesus family tomb.” If the claims were validated, it would mean that Christians must rethink the Resurrection. As it turns out, there is nothing to rethink. But the Science Channel needs to rethink its reputation lest it be dubbed the Superstition Channel.

The show is produced by Associated Producers for the Science Channel. Conveniently, Simcha Jacobovici is the executive producer for Associated Producers. He is described in the Science Channel press release as a “biblical historian”; he narrates the film.

Jacobovici is not a historian, nor does he have any credentials as an archeologist. He is a filmmaker who dabbles in areas where he has no expertise. Worse, his previous work has been discredited by experts in Israel, Europe, and the United States.

In 2007, Jacobovici co-authored a book with Charles Pellegrino, The Jesus Family Tomb, that claimed the Jesus family tomb had been found. The Foreword to the book was written by James Cameron, of “Titanic” fame. He said the authors succeeded in their efforts “beyond any reasonable doubt.” On CNN, I told him he was promoting a “Titanic” fraud.

When I debated Pellegrino on the “Today” show, I told him “there’s not one citation in the book, there’s not one footnote, there’s not one endnote. Both of us have doctorates. We know the way science proceeds. You go through a peer review or you present your findings in a scientific journal. James Cameron was right—he said this reads like a detective novel because it is a novel.”

I was wrong about one thing. I later found out that Pellegrino does not have a doctorate: Victoria University said he was never awarded a Ph.D.

The Jacobovici-Pellegrino-Cameron claim extends back to 1980 when Israeli archeologist Amos Kloner led a probe of the tomb that they seized on 27 years later. “The claim that the burial site has been found is not based on any proof,” he said, “and is only an attempt to sell. I refute all claims and efforts to waken a renewed interest in the findings. With all due respect, they are not archeologists.”

Many experts ripped apart their thesis in 2007. David Mevorah, curator of the Israel Museum, said, the chances of the filmmaker’s claim being true “are more than remote…They are closer to fantasy.” William Dever, archeologist and professor emeritus at the University of Arizona, said that “It looks more like a publicity stunt than any kind of real discovery…They’re not scholars. They are not experts.”

“It’s what I would call ‘archeo-porn'” commented Jonathan Reed, professor of religion at the University of La Verne. Garrett G. Fagan at Penn State said, “Modern architects of fantastic finds try to provide an air of legitimacy by invoking scientific jargon. They’re not scientists but they need to dress themselves in the clothes of science to pass muster.”

Alan Segal, professor of religion at Barnard College, raised some indisputable points. “The New Testament is very clear on this. Jesus was put in a tomb that didn’t belong to him and then he rose and there was nothing left. Why would Jesus’ family have a tomb outside of Jerusalem if they were from Nazareth? Why would they have a tomb if they were poor?”

Ted Koppel moderated a panel discussion on a Discovery Channel film on this subject and concluded, “This is drama. This is not journalism.”

In 2008, Princeton professor James Charlesworth held a Jerusalem conference that brought together over 50 scientists to discuss this issue. No one was persuaded that there was any breakthrough. Charlesworth questioned, if this really were Jesus’ ossuary, would the followers of the person they believed was the Son of God leave an inscription of Jesus’ name that was merely “graffiti, just scratching”? Why was there “no ornamentation”? And why would the followers of the Son of God choose such a “lousy” looking tomb?

The only veneer of authenticity about this program is Simcha Jacobovici’s hat: he is still wearing that stupid same flat cap he wore when I debated him a decade ago. Time to move on, Simcha, in more ways than one.

Planned Parenthood Slams President Trump for Overturning Obama Rule Forcing States to Fund It

The Planned Parenthood abortion business wasted no time in slamming president Donald Trump for signing a bill overturning an Obama rule that forced states to find the nation’s biggest abortion company.

As previously reported today, President Donald Trump signed into law today a bill to overturn a rule pro-abortion President Barack Obama put in place preventing states from defunding the Planned Parenthood abortion business. The rule from the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) prevented states from blocking Title X funding to abortion companies like Planned Parenthood.

In a statement released after he signed the bill, a top Planned Parenthood executive made the false claim that somehow revoking Planned Parenthood funding would prevent women from accessing health care. Never mind that Planned Parenthood predominantly does abortions and does not provide mammograms and rarely provides prenatal care for women who are pregnant. And never mind the fact that women can access health care from any other doctor, hospital or medical center apart from Planned Parenthood.

Planned Parenthood executive vice president Dawn Laguens called Trump’s action the “latest example” of politicians making it harder for people to access healthcare. . . .

Jim Sedlak, executive director of American Life League and founder of STOPP (Stop Planned Parenthood International), added: “Our supporters contacted their members of Congress asking them to vote yes as this bill made its way through the House and the Senate. This law will undo an Obama era regulation and return to states the ability to withhold Title X money from Planned Parenthood and other abortion providers. The passage of this law and its signing by the president demonstrate a real changing of the guard in DC. We look forward to many more victories for the babies.”

Speaker Paul Ryan also applauded the signing: “This is a major pro-life victory. Today, another Congressional Review Act bill undoing harmful Obama regulations becomes law. H.J. Res 43 voids a regulation that forces states to use Title X money to fund Planned Parenthood. Taxpayers should not be forced to fund abortion, plain and simple. We remain united and steadfast in our commitment to life and religious liberty.” . . . Read More

President Trump Signs Bill to Overturn Obama Rule Forcing States to Fund Planned Parenthood

President Donald Trump signed into law today a bill to overturn a rule pro-abortion President Barack Obama put in place preventing states from defunding the Planned Parenthood abortion business. The rule from the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) prevented states from blocking Title X funding to abortion companies like Planned Parenthood.

After the House first passed the measure, the Senate voted 50-50 for the bill, with a couple of liberal pro-abortion Republicans joining Democrats in supporting the abortion giant and Republicans voting pro-life. The tie vote made it so pro-life Vice-President Mike Pence cast the tie-breaking vote to approve the measure. . . .

In recent years, several states receiving Title X family planning grants have opted to direct those funds to county health departments, community health centers, or other types of providers, in preference to organizations engaged in objectionable activities, such as Planned Parenthood, a mega-marketer of abortion that has also been involved in selling aborted baby parts. . . . Pro-Life Victories: Several Legalize Assisted Suicide Bills Defeated

. . . Bills to legalize euthanasia “have done very poorly” in 2017, Rita Marker, executive director of the Patients Rights Council, told Baptist Press. “That has been a shock to those who are in favor of it because they thought that all of [a] sudden the dam had burst and everything would happen for them.”

So far, that has not happened. Bills to advance the idea that some lives aren’t worth living have gone down to defeat in Indiana, Mississippi, New Mexico and Tennessee. Also in New Mexico, the state senate voted 22-20 against a bill to legalize assisted suicide for people expected to die within six months. It was a bipartisan vote, with 7 Democrats joining 15 Republicans.

Similar bills stalled in Hawaii, Maryland, Utah, and Wyoming, Marker said, although it’s always possible they could be brought back. In Hawaii, a House of Representatives committee unanimously decided not to advance a proposal allowing physicians to prescribe lethal drugs on the same day a patient is diagnosed as terminally ill.

Eva Andrade of the Hawaii Family Forum said that Hawaiians should “say a prayer of thanksgiving” while remaining vigilant—because when it comes to assisted suicide bills, death is never final. “Although this may seem like the battle is over, please be advised that the battle is not over until the last day of session,” Andrade said. “And even then, the bill is still alive for next session. Even now, proponents are most likely regrouping.”

Dauneen Dolce, executive director of the Right to Life Committee of New Mexico, told the American Family Association that assisted suicide legislation likely will be introduced next year. Therefore, she said, those opposing the culture of death must remain “actively involved in some way,” by “educating yourself, or giving support to the organizations that are educating others, or [being] involved in the political arena. If you don’t do that,” she added, “you are handing over our state [and] our laws, and the culture of death will come to us—and that’ll be from apathy.” . . . .Read More

Trump Picks Pro-life Conservative to Lead HHS Civil Rights Office

Roger Severino
President Trump has appointed social conservative Roger Severino to head the Office of Civil Rights of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) in a choice celebrated by pro-family advocates and condemned by pro-LGBTQ leftists.

Severino, a Harvard Law School graduate who served as director of the DeVos Center for Religion and Civil Society at the conservative Heritage Foundation, has written and published extensively against leftist “gender ideology” and the Obama administration’s promotion of transgenderism in the military.

His new boss at HHS is Tom Price, a conservative, pro-life former congressman from Georgia whose appointment, like Severino’s, has enraged pro-LGTBQ activists as well as the pro-abortion lobby.

Social conservatives were overjoyed at the appointment of Severino, who previously worked as CEO and legal counsel for the Becket Fund for Religious Liberty, one of the world’s premier legal organizations defending religious freedom.

“It’s a super appointment. Roger Severino is a very balanced thinker who is also an experienced litigator,” Ken Blackwell, formerly a senior domestic policy adviser on the Trump transition team, told LifeSiteNews. Blackwell, a former Ohio Secretary of State, served as undersecretary at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development under President George W. Bush [and author on the ARRA News Service]. . . . Read More

Abortion Clinic in Louisiana That Killed 7,482 Babies in Abortions Closes

Pro-life advocates in the state of Louisiana are delighted today to learn that abortion clinic that has killed almost 7,500 babies in abortions is closing.

Louisiana Right to Life recently obtained a letter filed as a public record in the federal case June Medical Services LLC, et al. v. Rebekah Gee, et al. that indicates the Bossier City Medical Suite, an outpatient abortion facility in Bossier City, has closed its doors.

The letter from the Center for Reproductive Rights also says the facility’s outpatient license was returned to the Louisiana Department of Health. A moving trailer was seen on location yesterday, April 11.

Benjamin Clapper, Executive Director of Louisiana Right to Life, said the following on the release of the news: “With the closure of Bossier City Medical Suite, there is one less facility in Louisiana destroying the lives of innocent unborn babies. From 2006 to 2015, this facility sold 7,482 abortions. We mourn for these lives that will never enjoy life in Louisiana but rejoice that this facility will no longer be in the business of abortion.

“We encourage the pro-life community to continue its efforts to provide help to mothers and babies, both before and after birth. We look forward to a day when all babies are protected by law and welcomed with joy,” Clapper said.

There are currently three facilities selling abortion in Louisiana: Women’s Health Care Center in New Orleans, Delta Clinic of Baton Rouge, and Hope Medical Group for Women in Shreveport.

The abortion clinic frequently sued to attempt to stop pro-life state laws stopping abortions. . . . Life News

Catholic Cardinal Robert Sarah Calls Abortion the “Greatest Tragedy of Our Time”

A leading Catholic Cardinal says abortion is “the greatest tragedy of our time.”

The comments from Cardinal Robert Sarah came during an event commemorating the 23rd anniversary of the death of Dr. Jerome Lejeune. He was the physician responsible for discovering the genetic chromosome that leads to Down syndrome. Dr. Lejeune was a pro-life advocate who believed that life begin at conception and his opposition to aborting babies with Down Syndrome ultimately cost him a shot at a Nobel Prize. . . .
Cardinal Robert Sarah says abortion is the “greatest tragedy of our time,” and the pro-life cause is “part of the final battle…between God and Satan.”

In the worldwide battle against abortion, what is at stake is the “survival of humanity itself,” Cardinal Sarah said.

“The ‘infernal red-fire dragon with seven heads’ — a prototype of the culture of death denounced by St. John Paul II in his teaching — stands before the pregnant woman, ready to devour her child at birth,” he said.

“Yes, it is a battle … of life or death,” he said.

He pointed out how the battle rages against even the smallest of human beings, the tiny embryo, an “innocent and defenseless” human life, that he said must be protected if civilization is not to revert to “barbarism.”

Loss of the “sacred respect of human life,” said the cardinal, coupled with advances in the science of genetics, has led man to the false notion that he is now the master of life who can “manipulate” it as he pleases.

40 Days for Life Ends With 437 Babies Saved From Abortion, 1 Abortion Clinic Closed & 1 Staffer Quit

Shawn Carney, President, 40 Days for Life: “Rejoice with me!” That’s what one of the 40 Days for Life leaders in Michigan said while announcing good news.

So – here’s some good news at the conclusion of another miracle-packed 40 Days for Life campaign.

During these past 40 days, we have been made aware of 437 babies spared from abortion – that we know of! And reports from local leaders are still coming in, so that number is expected to rise.

Want more good news?

We just heard that an abortion worker has had a change of heart and left the business.

We do like to keep details private, but one of the local coordinators notes that this person “will need lots of prayers as workers need to go through healing, not unlike the women that are post abortive.”

This now makes 144 abortion employees who have experienced conversions and quit their jobs during 40 days for Life campaigns.

Even more good news?

We’ve recently been told that an abortion center in Toms River, New Jersey has in fact shut down.

The facility announced it was “temporarily” suspending operations some time back – that notice is still posted on their website – but all signs point to a permanent closure. It no longer had enough clients to remain open.

There are now 84 abortion centers where 40 Days for Life vigils have been held that have gone out of business.

Praise God! And rejoice!

Neil Gorsuch Sworn in as Supreme Court Justice

Judge Neil Gorsuch became Justice Neil Gorsuch today as he was sworn in as a Supreme Court Justice following a Senate confirmation vote on Friday. . . .

Justice Gorsuch was sworn in during a private ceremony and he is expected to take the judicial oath in public at the White House later today.

Justice Gorsuch fills the seat of the late pro-life Justice Antonin Scalia. The Supreme Court has been without nine justices for over a year. Justice Gorsuch is expected to be seated on the Supreme Court before it begins its next session of oral arguments on April 17th.

Senators voted 54-45 for Gorsuch with a few Democrats voting with all Republicans for his nomination. Manchin of West Virginia, Donnelly of Indiana, and Heitkamp of North Dakota joined Republicans. . . .

National Right to Life called the vote the “the capstone on the yesterday’s landmark victory, when united Senate Republicans put an end to the ability of Senate Democrats to utilize the filibuster to deny confirmation to Supreme Court nominees of Republican presidents.”  . . . Read More

Texas House Votes to Defund Planned Parenthood & Send $20 Million to Pregnancy Centers

The Texas House passed a two-year budget Thursday that would cut off funding to abortion groups and increase support for pregnant and parenting families.

The budget passed in a 131-16 vote, with the two pro-life amendments, and now moves to the state Senate for consideration . . .

Texas lawmakers and pro-life advocates have been working for years to stop taxpayer funding from flowing to abortion groups like Planned Parenthood. The legislature voted in 2015 to prohibit Medicaid funding to abortion groups; however, the measure currently is blocked by a court order.

There often are multiple funding streams from which taxpayer dollars flow to Planned Parenthood and other abortion groups. Finding and cutting off all of the streams can be a long process.

The newly proposed Texas budget would block that additional funding. According to Texas Right to Life, there were several “hidden streams” in the 2016 Texas budget that gave money to abortion groups, including through the Health and Human Services Commission, Attorney General and Texas Comptroller. The funds added up to more than $500,000. . . . Read More

Senate Confirms Supreme Court Nominee Neil Gorsuch Over Democrat and Pro-Abortion Opposition

Judge Neil Gorsuch Confirmed by U.S. Senate
The Senate voted today to confirm Judge Neil Gorsuch’s Supreme Court nomination despite strenuous opposition from pro-abortion groups like Planned Parenthood and a filibuster from pro-abortion Democrats.

Senators voted 54-45 for Gorsuch with a few Democrats voting with all Republicans for his nomination. Manchin of West Virginia, Donnelly of Indiana, and Heitkamp of North Dakota joined Republicans.

Yesterday, Republicans successfully used the so-called nuclear option to set up the vote today on Gorsuch. The vote to employ the nuclear option and change the number of votes needed to cut off debate and move to approve a Supreme Court nominee from 60 to a simple majority came after Democrats successfully filibustered the nomination.

Most Senate Democrats voted Thursday to block the nomination while all Republicans voted for cloture. Then the Senate voted 52-48 to eliminate the 60-vote threshold to end debate and proceed to a vote. . . .

After today’s Senate vote, pro-life groups applauded Gorsuch’s confirmation. . . . Read More

Obama Gave $68 Million to Pro-Abortion UN Population Control Agency, Trump is Giving $0

The Trump Administration reinstated a policy Monday evening directing United States foreign assistance dollars away from the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) on the basis that its activities in China are complicit with that nation’s coercive population control program, the implementation of which includes forced abortion and involuntary sterilization. United States funding will be directed instead to other family planning and health programs not involved in China’s population control program.

“We congratulate President Trump and his administration for making it abundantly clear the United States will not support a United Nations agency that cooperates in China’s brutally repressive population control policies,” said National Right to Life President Carol Tobias. “I heartily applaud what we at National Right to Life are seeing from this pro-life administration.”

The State Department memorandum issued Monday determined that the UNFPA was in violation of the Kemp-Kasten anti-coercion law. The amendment prohibits giving U.S. “population assistance” funds to “any organization or program which, as determined by the President of the United States, supports or participates in the management of a program of coercive abortion or involuntary sterilization.”

As the memo states:

The Chinese Government’s Population and Family Planning Law, even as amended in 2015, and related regulations and practices at the central and Provincial levels, clearly constitute a “program of coercive abortion or involuntary sterilization,” and are an integral part of the comprehensive population-control program the Chinese Government advances. While there is no evidence that UNFPA directly engages in coercive abortions or involuntary sterilizations in China, the agency continues to partner with the [National Health and Family Planning Commission] on family planning, and thus can be found to support, or participate in the management of China’s coercive policies for purposes of the Kemp-Kasten Amendment.

The Kemp-Kasten Amendment was originally enacted in 1985 in response to the UNFPA’s extensive involvement in China’s coercive program. In 1985, the Reagan Administration determined that UNFPA was in violation of the law. That determination was challenged in a federal lawsuit by the Population Institute, a U.S. advocacy group receiving substantial funding from the UNFPA. . . . Read More

Day 37 Spring 2017: She Ran Out!

Shawn Carney, President, 40 Days for Life: It's never too late for a mother to change her mind before an abortion.

Some change their minds in the parking lot. Some reject abortion on the sidewalk … others have leaped off the surgical table just moments before the abortion happens!

We discuss this -- and your lasting impact -- on this new 40 Days for Life podcast episode.

Austin, Texas
"Wow! More power to you!"

That was the response of one passerby who asked what the 40 Days for Life volunteers were doing on the sidewalk outside the abortion center in Austin.

Not all of the interactions are that positive. A man stopped to literally yell at one of the sidewalk counselors, accusing her of all sorts of misguided actions, including "shaming woman."

The counselor says he basically reeled off every single pro-abortion talking point she had ever heard ... but she addressed every one of them -- calmly, and with truth and love.

This went on for a good 25 minutes until he finally said, "I have no arguments left. I have never heard any of this before! Maybe it IS good that you're out here. Thank you so much!" … and he shook her hand.

Said one of the Austin team members, "All it takes is an open heart and open mind."

Timisoara, Romania
The 40 Days for Life team in Timisoara says the vigil is attracting "random acts of kindness" from passersby outside the hospital where they're praying.

A bus driver stopped to offer the volunteers water and bagels. "He said he passes the vigil several times a day on his bus route," said one of the Timisoara team members. "He wanted to do something, but he can't stay in the street."

A grandmother who visits the vigil site often always brings something for prayer participants -- donuts, tea or whatever else she can offer as a sign of appreciation.

"May God reward them and bless them!" said the local leaders.

Iowa House Passes Bill Banning Late-Abortions on Babies After 20 Weeks

The Iowa House passed a bill Wednesday that would ban most abortions in the state at 20 weeks of pregnancy. The bill passed 55-41 and heads back to the Senate for a final vote before going to Gov. Terry Branstad, who has supported such a law.

The legislation prohibits abortions after 20 weeks except in a few limited circumstances, including when the mother’s life is at risk. It also would allow abortions up to 24 weeks on unborn babies diagnosed with an anomaly considered to be “incompatible with life,” according to the report. An individual who violates the law could face a Class C felony.

“The conversation and dialogue on this subject has always perplexed me. At 20 weeks, it is a life — it is a girl; it is a boy,” Sen. Randy Feenstra, R-Hull, said previously

. “The question that I have always asked myself is, ‘Why shouldn’t that life have rights?’”

State lawmakers also approved a unique amendment to the bill to address future advances in medical technology.

According to the newspaper:
The Senate adopted an amendment to the bill proposed by Sen. Mark Chelgren, R-Otttumwa, that would prohibit abortions before 20 weeks if a fetus is viable. He said in an interview the amendment is aimed at the future so that as technology improves and the viability for a fetus can be earlier than Iowa’s law can follow the technology.

In asking support for the 20-week ban, Sen. Ken Rozenboom, R-Oskaloosa, told the story of a college human biology professor who had kept a three-month-old fetus encased in plastic. A generation earlier, a woman who had been a student in the class became pregnant and considered having an abortion, but decided against it after observing the fetus. Years later, the woman’s daughter met the professor and expressed thanks for her life, he said.

“As we cast this important vote, it is my hope and my prayer that some day down the road a young girl will come up to you and say, ‘Thanks for my life; I appreciate it,’” Rozenboom told his fellow lawmakers.
All except two Democrats voted against the bill. . . . Read More

VP Pence Working Overtime to Revive Bill to Defund Planned Parenthood

Vice President Mike Pence
After the House of Representatives was forced to pull the bill to defund Planned Parenthood and repeal Obamacare, pro-life Americans have been anxiously awaiting a new piece of legislation.

Some Republicans voted against the bill — with more Liberal Republicans opposing the portion that would defund the major abortion business in the country and conservative Republicans wanting to repeal Obamacare entirely as opposed to repealing portions of it.

According the news reports, pro-life Vice President of Mike Pence is working overtime to get that new bill prepared and ready for a House floor vote where hopefully Republicans will have enough votes to get the legislation through the chamber. . . . The legislation enjoyed the support of pro-life groups like the Susan B. Anthony List and National Right to Life for defunding Planned Parenthood and closing abortion-funding loopholes in Obamacare. . . . Read More

Planned Parenthood’s Cecile Richards refuses questions about newest baby parts video

Cecile Richards, the President of Planned Parenthood, walked away from LifeSiteNews after being asked about the new Center for Medical Progress (CMP) video during which a Planned Parenthood abortionist discusses what to do if babies show signs of life after being unsuccessfully aborted.

Richards also wouldn't comment on two pro-life activists from CMP being charged with felonies for exposing the abortion company's baby body parts sales.

On March 29, the same day the shocking CMP video was released, Planned Parenthood held a rally on Capitol Hill. LifeSiteNews was there and asked Richards for her reaction to the new video and Daleiden being charged. The charges against Daleiden and his co-worker Sandra Merritt were announced March 28.

Richards walked away upon hearing the questions. Planned Parenthood staffers attempted to cover the camera and direct LifeSiteNews away. . . . Read More
