Terri Schiavo’s Brother: “What Happened to My Sister Continues to Happen, & It’s Getting Worse”

More than 10 years after Terri Schiavo’s death, her family continues to fight for the rights of the medically vulnerable.

Schiavo’s brother, Bobby Schindler, spoke Friday at the National Right to Life Convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin about Terri’s life and starvation death, and the work his family is doing to help other people like her.

“We are here today because this continues to happen to this day and it’s only getting worse,” Schindler said. There are times when it is “appropriate to stop treatment, but in cases like Terri’s, those that are not dying and can function on a feeding tube without rejecting it, those are the people we’re talking about.”

Today, he runs the Terri Schiavo Life & Hope Network, which has helped more than 2,000 families advocate for loved ones’ medical treatment when hospitals or other individuals try to deny them care.

“Our medical rights are eroding,” he continued. “We’re having strangers make medical decisions for us rather than our families.”

Schindler said there still is a lot of misinformation about his sister’s highly publicized death, perpetuated by the mainstream and entertainment media. . . . Read More

Seven Planned Parenthood Abortion Facilities Permanently Close Today

Seven Planned Parenthood facilities, six of which conducted medication abortions, are set to permanently close today in three states.

Planned Parenthood officials noted that the closures were primarily an attempt to remain solvent amid fears that Medicaid reimbursements would be halted by Congress.

“It isn’t very often we see seven Planned Parenthood facilities close in one day. This may have set some kind of record. It is great news for women and their babies who will no longer be preyed upon for profit by Planned Parenthood in these communities,” said Troy Newman, President of Operation Rescue. “Many Planned Parenthood facilities survive only on on government funding. There are so many other reputable providers of legitimate healthcare for women out there. Even if every Planned Parenthood was shut down, no one would have to do without proper medical care. We should not be funding Planned Parenthood with our tax dollars.”  . . . Read More @LifeNews/b>

Defying Definitions, Trump Takes Strong Pro-Life Pro-LGBT Stance At UN

by Stefano Gennarini, J.D. (C-FAM): The Trump administration delighted and frustrated social conservatives last week when it staunchly opposed abortion while calling for international recognition of homosexual relations at the Human Rights Council in Geneva.

“The United States fully supports the principle of voluntary choice regarding maternal and child health and family planning. We do not recognize abortion as a method of family planning, nor do we support abortion in our reproductive health assistance,” said U.S. delegate Mr. Jason Ross Mack in a poignant reservation delivered when a resolution on violence against women included “safe abortion” in a list of “sexual and reproductive health-care services.”

Mack pointed out that whatever non-binding UN documents might say on the topic of reproductive health it was “made clear over many years, there was international consensus that these documents do not create new international rights, including any ‘right’ to abortion.” He reminded council members that the United States is the “largest bilateral donor of reproductive health and family planning assistance” in the world.

The statement fulfilled the expectations of social conservatives that the Trump administration would oppose abortion in UN policy. It went farther by beating back attempts by UN staff and European nations to declare abortion a human right.

At the same meeting, however, the Trump administration signaled that U.S. diplomats would not support efforts to protect the family as defined in binding international law.

Instead, the United States said it did not support a resolution on protection of the family and said it voted against it on the grounds that it did not grant international recognition to homosexual relations on par with the family.

Social conservatives hoped for a change of direction from previous years under the Obama administration after President Trump declined to issue a Presidential proclamation for “LGBT Pride” in June, and when he promised to respect other countries’ sovereignty and their “right to chart their own path” in an address to the joint sessions of Congress. Noted social conservative U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley was in Geneva for the opening of the Council earlier in the month.

In an explanation after the vote, Mack called for a loose interpretation of binding international law that recognizes “diversity of family types” and how “the nature and role of the family adapts over time.”

“The United States believes that discussions at the United Nations must consider all types of loving families that exist today,” Mack said, explaining that this included families headed by a “same-sex couple,” and repeating a claim of the European Union and the Obama administration that “human rights belong to individuals, not the family unit.”

Pro-family groups point out that binding international law does not recognize relations between persons of the same-sex as capable of constituting a family. In The Family Articles, they document how international law reserves singular protections for the family founded by a man and a woman. The Family Articles maintain that when delegations and UN bureaucrats say otherwise, they undermine not just the family, but international law and human rights.

U.S. based pro-family groups that co-sponsored The Family Articles include the Family Research Council, National Organization for Marriage, Human Life International, CitizenGo, and C-Fam, publisher of the Friday Fax, among others.

Pro-Abortion Republicans Plan Amendment to Strip Defunding Planned Parenthood From Obamacare Repeal

Two pro-abortion Republicans plan to introduce an amendment to strip the provision defunding the Planned Parenthood abortion business from the Senate bill to repeal Obamacare.

Senate Republicans have delayed a vote on the health-care bill until after Independence Day because they do not have enough votes to reach the 50 vote margin needed to pass it. Part of the problem is two pro-abortion Republicans refuse to support the bill because it has provisions that would revoke taxpayer funding for the nation’s biggest abortion company, Planned Parenthood.

So now Alaska Senator Lisa Murkowski and Maine Senator Susan Collins plan to remove the defunding provision from the legislation. Leading pro-life organizations will work overtime to prevent that from happening. . . .

Senate leaders have announced the Senate will not vote on the proposed health care bill until after next week’s July 4th holiday to shore up the votes. President Donald Trump has invited every Republican member of the Senate to the White House at 4 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon for a meeting. Paul said that he met with Trump and that the president was “open” to improving the bill. . . . Read More

Illinois Law Requires Pro-Life Doctors To Discuss ‘benefits’ Of Abortion

. . . a law enacted last year in Illinois compels doctors to counsel patients about the “benefits” of all legal medical procedures – the prime target is pro-life doctors about abortion, but it is not limited to that – and if unwilling to do the deed, to become complicity by helping patient find a doctor who will.

First, the amended conscience law pretends to protect conscience, but requires counseling on benefits of legal procedures regardless of conscience beliefs. From Public Act 099-0690 (my emphasis):
Nothing in this Act shall relieve a physician from any duty, which may exist under any laws concerning current standards, of normal medical practice or care practices and procedures, to inform his or her patient of the patient’s condition, prognosis, legal treatment options, and risks and benefits of treatment options, provided, however, that such physician shall be under no duty to perform, assist, counsel, suggest, recommend, refer or participate in any way in any form of practice or health care service that is contrary to his or her conscience. This means that if a woman is told she is pregnant, the doctor must counsel on the abortion option. It would require a doctor to counsel on the benefits of sex reassignment to their patients with gender dysphoria. (The ACLU has already brought such a lawsuit against a Catholic hospital for refusing to permit sex change surgeries.)

It would also mean, were assisted suicide legalized, a doctor would have to tell a terminally ill patient about the option of receiving a lethal overdose.

The conscience protections in the law – that existed prior to this amendment – are then stripped from doctors by requiring them to procure and refer:
(2) When a health care facility, physician, or health care personnel is unable to permit, perform, or participate in a health care service that is a diagnostic or treatment option requested by a patient because the health care service is contrary to the conscience of the health care facility, physician, or health care personnel, then the patient shall either be provided the requested health care service by others in the facility or be notified that the health care will not be provided and be referred, transferred, or given information in accordance with paragraph (3).And here’s the kick to the conscience solar plexus:(3) If requested by the patient or the legal representative of the patient, the health care facility, physician, or health care personnel shall: (i) refer the patient to, or (ii) transfer the patient to, or (iii) provide in writing information to the patient about other health care providers who they reasonably believe may offer the health care service the health care facility, physician, or health personnel refuses to permit, perform, or participate in because of a conscience-based objection. That means forced complicity in abortion and other morally controversial medical acts, akin to the failed attempt by Vermont – thwarted by litigation – to force doctors there to counsel about the availability of assisted suicide to their terminally ill patients. (Except this is by statute, not a regulation that conflicted with a statute).

I suspect that pro-life conscientious objectors can find protection against this authoritarianism in the safe harbor of the Church Amendment, a federal statute that forbids any facility or health care professional working in a facility that receives federal funds from being punished for refusing to participate in abortion or sterilization. But that law does not protect against compelled participation in other procedures, and thus needs to be expanded.

This is an example of how medicine is being weaponized by law as a means for committing cultural imperialism. Read More at Life Site News

Tucker Carlson Slams Twitter for Censoring Pro-Life Ads

On his Fox News show last night, pro-life host Tucker Carlson slammed social media giant Twitter for censoring ads from pro-life organizations.

Yesterday, LifeNews.com reported on how Twitter is coming under fire for censoring pro-life ads from the organization LiveAction. That is the group that has conducted undercover video campaigns exposing the horrible actions of the Planned Parenthood abortion business.

Twitter is requiring Live Action to stop pushing the defunding of the Planned Parenthood abortion company in order to qualify for advertising. Moreover, Twitter is also supposedly requiring live-action to delete. Only images of aborted babies but images of ultrasounds of unborn children as well. One tweet was flagged by an ad bot for violating Twitter’s “Hate, sensitive topics, and violence” advertisement policy, according to an email notification. The policy prohibits, among other things, “Inflammatory content which is likely to evoke a strong negative reaction or cause harm.”

Here’s Carlson’s take:

Are We Becoming Less Indignant About the Killing of 59 Million Babies in Abortions?

Dave Andrusko (Editor of National Right to Life): Ellie Saul is a gifted writer, some of whose postings at bound4life.org she has happily allowed us to reprint.

I find her a delight for many reasons but first and foremost because her writings are bathed in a passionate concern for the unborn, the outpouring of a gentle spirit.

If you’ve been in this Movement as long as people like me have, there is always the danger that at some level you lose your edge of moral indignation. It wouldn’t be accurate to say you become inured to the suffering of unborn children and the aftershocks so many women experience, or that you tacitly “accept” that abortion will be legal for a long, long time.

But you can (and I am speaking as a warning to myself here) become less furious at the inhumanity of abortion or less indignant that 59 million individual unborn babies have died since Roe unleashed the slaughter.

Note, please, I did not say angry. I said indignant and furious. Allow me to explain.

Indignant in the sense that abortion is a rip in the moral fabric that must be mended—that abortion is unworthy of us, a nation conceived in liberty–a mockery of all that we purport to stand for.

I understand furious can be taken as just another way of saying very angry. That’s not what I mean.

Keep up with the latest pro-life news and information on Twitter.
For me, to be furious about abortion is to driven by a recognition that I may not have done everything I could have to help a young girl or woman find a peaceful, loving “win-win” solution. That my vision too often is straight ahead—that I lack the peripheral vision (or choose not to exercise it) to gaze on either side where desperate women would be seen hurting.

In other words, furious not at others but at me!

When Mrs. Saul once posted “Valley of Weeping,” it reminded me that I need my heart pierced on a regular basis.

And that my prayer list must have room to add the unnamed women contemplating an abortion, convinced that the death of their children is their “only way out.”

And that in every way I become the kind of approachable human being who can be turned to when these life-and-death decisions hang in the balance.

For if not me, who? If not us, who? . . . Read More

Planned Parenthood Doc Caught Saying She’d “Break the Baby’s Neck” if Baby Born Alive After Abortion

Planned Parenthood abortionists in St. Paul, Minnesota would “break the baby’s neck” if the child was born alive, according to a new video just released by Pro-Life Action Ministries. This would be a violation of both federal and Minnesota law.

In the video, a former Planned Parenthood client says that when she went to Planned Parenthood earlier this year for a late-term abortion (at 22 weeks, 1 day), she asked the two abortionists, “If you guys were to take him out right now while he’s still, his heart rate is still, you know, going, what would you guys do?”

According to the woman, one of the abortionists looked at the other one, then looked back at the client, “and she told me that we don’t tell women this, and a lot of women don’t even ask this question, but if we was to proceed with the abortion and the baby was to come out still alive and active, most likely we would break the baby’s neck.”

This would be a clear violation of Minnesota’s “Born Alive Infants Protection Act,” which, similar to federal law, requires that, “All reasonable measures consistent with good medical practice . . . shall be taken . . . . to preserve the life and health of the born alive infant.” . . .

SCOTUS: Gov't Can’t Exclude Christian Groups From Programs Just Because They’re Christian

In a huge victory, the Supreme Court today ruled that government programs can’t exclude Christian groups from them just because they are Christian.

The specifics of the case at issue are not directly related to pro-life causes but the decision certainly could have impact on pro-life organizations. Previously, Christian-based abstinence organizations have been denied funding and pro-life organizations have been denied participation in governmental programs.

The U.S. Supreme Court ruled 7-2 Monday that the government cannot exclude churches and other faith-based organizations from a secular government program simply because of their religious identity. This marked the first major religious liberty case since Associate Justice Neil Gorsuch was confirmed to the Court earlier this year.

The much-anticipated decision came in the case Trinity Lutheran Church of Columbia v. Comer, involving a church-run preschool in Missouri. The state denied the church a partial reimbursement grant for rubberized playground surface material made from recycled tires solely because a church runs the preschool, even though the only purpose of the grant program is to improve children’s safety.

“The Supreme Court’s decision today affirms the commonsense principle that government isn’t being neutral when it treats religious organizations worse than everyone else,” said ADF Senior Counsel David Cortman, who argued before the Supreme Court on behalf of Trinity Lutheran Church in April. “Equal treatment of a religious organization in a program that provides only secular benefits, like a partial reimbursement grant for playground surfacing, isn’t a government endorsement of religion. As the Supreme Court rightly found, unequal treatment that singles out a preschool for exclusion from such a program simply because a church runs the school is clearly unconstitutional.” . . . Pro-Abortion AG Will Re-File Bogus Charges Against David Daleiden for Exposing Planned Parenthood

David Daleiden
California’s pro-abortion Attorney General, Xavier Becerra said his department will submit revised charges against the pro-life advocates who recorded undercover videos exposing Planned Parenthood selling the body parts from aborted babies.

Last week, as LifeNews reported, a California court today dismissed almost all of the criminal charges against them.

California Attorney General Xavier Becerra filed 15 felony charges against both David Daleiden and Sandra Merritt. Becerra is a longtime abortion advocate with financial connections to the Planned Parenthood abortion company that the two pro-life Advocates exposed in the videos for selling body parts such as fetal brains and livers.

At the time, pro-life advocates said Becerra’s 15 felony charges were bogus charges meant to belittle the expose’ campaign and to cast aspersions on Daleiden and the organization behind the videos. They said the attempt was about drawing attention away from Planned Parenthood’s sales of aborted baby parts.

The San Francisco Superior Court on Wednesday dismissed 14 of 15 criminal counts but the pair are still charged with one count of conspiracy to invade privacy. However the court dismissed the charges with leave to amend — meaning Becerra could re-file the charges with additional supposed evidence against the pair.

The court ruled that counts 1-14 were legally insufficient. The state has the opportunity to amend if it can plead a more legally sufficient and specific complaint. The California’s Attorney General filed 15 criminal counts against Merritt, with counts 1-14 for each of the alleged interviews and count 15 for an alleged conspiracy. San Francisco County Superior Court Judge Christopher Hite gave the state attorney general’s office until mid-July to file a revised complaint. . . . Read Nore:

Trump Admin Strongly Opposes UN Resolution Supporting Abortion

In a huge change from the pro-abortion regime of Barack Obama, the Trump administration is taking pro-life values to the United Nations.

The United States rejected a United Nations Human Rights Council resolution today because it included the sanctioning of abortion. The decision was praised by leading pro-life advocates.

Advocates of abortion on demand have worked for many years to insert abortion rights language into every conceivable UN document, treaty and statement, regardless of whether those instruments address the care of unborn children and their mothers. Today’s resolution addressed violence against women particularly in the context of war. It called for access to abortion for women and girls.

U.S. First Secretary to the UN in Geneva Jason Mack articulated the Trump administration’s position, which excludes abortion and abortion funding from international agreements.

“We do not recognize abortion as a method of family planning, nor do we support abortion in our reproductive health assistance,” Secretary Mack said to the Council. He added that the U.S. “strongly supports the spirit of this resolution and joins other members of this Council in condemning all acts of violence against women and girls.”

Pro-life leaders were excited about the move.

“The United States has rightly refused to support an effort to treat abortion as family planning,” says Scott Fischbach, Executive Director of MCCL GO. “MCCL GO fully supports the U.S. decision to oppose abortion as a legitimate ‘treatment’ for women.”

“MCCL is encouraged by the Trump administration’s support of the right to life of unborn children,” says Fischbach. “There is no right to abortion under international law. In fact, a foundational document of the UN, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, explicitly protects the right to life.”

Following adoption by the Human Rights Council of a resolution by Canada that focused on the elimination of violence against women, A/HRC/35/L.15 : Accelerating efforts to eliminate violence against women: engaging men and boys in preventing and responding to violence against all women and girls, an explanation of position was read by U.S. First Secretary to the U.N. Jason Mack.

The statement confirmed U.S. support for “the spirit” of the anti-violence resolution and that the U.S. joined other the members of the Human Rights Council “in condemning all acts of violence against women and girls and in calling for the elimination of all forms of sexual and other forms of gender-based violence, including sex trafficking of women and girls”.

But then, the U.S. took a giant pro-life step and declared “the U.S. ‘must dissociate from the consensus’ specifically on access to safe abortions.” . . . . Read More @ LifeNews.com

The OAS 47th General Assembly: New Hope for Life and the Family in the Americas

by Marianna Orlandi, Ph.D., C-Fam: Latin American countries pushed back this week against further promotion of gender ideology in a resolution at the Organization of American States (OAS).

On Wednesday, the forty-seventh General Assembly of the OAS adopted the annual resolution “human rights, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression” as it has since 2008. At the same time, however, it thwarted attempts to advance the protection of “sexual rights” further.

Unable to reach a consensus on this resolution at the OAS headquarters, member States held heated negotiations in Cancun.

The 2017 proposal went beyond any previously agreed-upon language, and beyond international law. It mentioned “individuals with intersex traits” as a new protected category and called for condemnation of undefined “homophobia and transphobia.”

Paraguay and Jamaica explained their refusal to adopt the resolution, citing national laws and constitutions. They proposed alternatives in order to reach a consensus; the “LGBTI core-group,” however, would not compromise.

Luís Carlos Garcia Escobar, representative of the Permanent Mission of Paraguay to the OAS, lamented the unwillingness of the sponsors of the resolution to modify the new text in any way so as to make it acceptable to all. “Instead of working to create consensual documents, we are left with adhesion agreements,” he explained. “We are worried with this dynamic,” he said.

Jamaica’s Julia Elizabeth Hyatt echoed his words, backed by the delegations of Suriname, Saint Lucia, and Barbados.

For the first time since 2008 pro-family states did not bend to the pressure of LGBTI advocates. On the last day, consensus was reached on adopting last year’s resolution. Reservations on the whole text came from Paraguay, Jamaica, Guatemala, Suriname, Saint Lucia, Trinidad and Tobago, and Barbados.

Following adoption by the General Assembly, Canadian Ambassador defined the result as “a missed opportunity.”

Sarah Flood-Beaubrun, Saint Lucia’s Minister of External Affairs explained her country’s position, saying “Saint Lucia cannot commit to any provision that undermine the institution of the family, or that may lead to the creation of controversial ‘sexual rights’ that may conflict with the rights of children and their families.”

Flood-Beaubrun reminded the room that international binding provisions protect the family as “the natural and fundamental unity of society,” and stressed her own country’s duty to protect it, and to protect the children.

The pro-family advocates from the Americas had hoped that the resolution would go to a vote, which was expected to be close, but they were bolstered nonetheless by the result, which came on the heels of other recent victories.

On June 15, hundreds of legislators from the Americas met in Mexico City where they released a declaration, signed by more than seven hundred politicians, explicitly denouncing OAS attempts to disregard sovereignty and to reinterpret international law through an ideological lens.

The Declaration calls on the Inter-American Human Rights’ Court and Commission to respect the family and the right to life from conception. It condemns abortion, and reiterates there is no right to same-sex unions, marriage, or to homosexual adoption in international law.

Another event bolstering pro-life advocates at the OAS General Assembly was the warm reception delegates gave to a presentation by Andrea Flores, a twenty-six year old woman affected by spastic brain paralysis.

As a member of the civil society, Flores delivered a statement to the OAS’ Heads of States, on Monday.

She condemned what she calls “true discrimination”—that of disabled children that begins in the womb and continues throughout their lives. The room, including OAS bureaucracy, fell in love with her.

Senate Health Care Bill Is Out

by Brian Burch, CatholicVote:   At long last, Senate Republicans have a health care bill.

It’s not the same bill that passed the House. They even gave it a new name: “The Better Care Reconciliation Act” or BCRA.

It’s not as good as the House bill, but I’ll admit this: It is far Better than Obamacare.

Here are some key provisions of the Senate bill:
  • Prohibits most taxpayer funding from going to abortion providers like Planned Parenthood for one year, and redirect those funds to Federally Qualified Health Centers.
  • Transforms Obamacare subsidies into tax credits and prohibits these credits from purchasing insurance with coverage for elective abortions. (This will be the toughest provision to pass through the reconciliation process). Tax credits will be adjusted for income, age, and geography.
  • Guarantees that children with medically complex disabilities will continue to be covered.
  • Maintains access to care for Americans with pre-existing conditions and lets children up to age 26 stay on their parents’ insurance plan
  • Expands tax-free Health Savings Accounts to help Americans control out-of-pocket medical expenses on their own
  • Allows for waivers so states can establish rules for alternative insurance plans that will help drive down skyrocketing premiums
  • Repeals almost all Obamacare taxes.
  • Rolls back Obamacare’s reckless expansion of Medicaid so that the program can be stabilized and provide for the people it was created for.

It’s worth noting that this is the base bill. There will be hundreds of amendments offered to change the bill. Some amendments could definitely improve this bill. Others will try to weaken the bill, or make it unaffordable.

Our position on the current state of things:

While we still prefer a clean break from Obamacare, we recognize the prospects for such a solution are near zero. For now, we are forced to work on incremental reforms to unwind the mess posed by Obamacare in so many areas.

We MUST repeal as much of Obamacare’s burdensome taxes, regulations and financing for abortion as possible. This will help stabilize premiums, offer Americans real choices, and stop using taxpayer dollars to kill children. These changes can help set in motion much needed changes to make healthcare more ethical and affordable.

Unwinding it won’t be easy because real people are tangled up in Obamacare’s mess.

Furthermore, the limits of the legislative process required to pass the bill (reconciliation) do not allow every change needed at this time. The slim Republican majority in the Senate is also complicating the process. Already as many as 4 Republican Senators have expressed serious reservations over the bill. But even these four Senators have said "we are open to negotiation." So changes will be needed to win their support.

Meanwhile Democrats have vowed not to negotiate whatsoever, and to obstruct instead -- choosing to hold health care hostage for political gain. They care more about “preserving Obama’s legacy” than helping hard-working Americans.

These Democrats deserve to pay a price for their stubborn refusal to reform a failing health care law. Which is exactly why we are laying the groundwork to defeat several of these Democratic Senators next year. If they refuse to do their job, they need to go.

We are working hard to represent you and the interests of Catholic voters in this fight.

Ralph Norman Defeats Pro-abortionist in South Carolina’s Fifth Congressional District

Ralph Norman
Exactly 64 years after the day he was born, Ralph Warren Norman Jr. was elected as the pro-life endorsed candidate to the 5th Congressional District of South Carolina.

Not only that, Republican Norman defeated Archie Parnell, a militantly pro-abortion Democrat, in the special election to fill the seat formerly held by Mick Mulvaney after President Donald Trump appointed pro-life Mulveney to head the Office of Management and Budget Office.

“We congratulate Congressman-elect Ralph Norman on this wonderful victory,” said Lisa Van Riper, President of South Carolina Citizens for Life. “Not only is it a perfect birthday gift for him, but because of his pro-life position it will also mean birthdays for many unborn children.”

Drew McKissick, chairman of the South Carolina Republican Party, said of Norman’s victory, “We once again rejected a radical left-wing pro-abortion politician. We keep that seat in pro-life hands which is critical for the success of the pro-life movement going forward.”

Norman told supporters, “I believe with [pro-life Republican President Donald] Trump in the White House, we have a great opportunity as conservatives. Washington needs leaders to help maintain the God-given right of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.”

Norman’s victory marks the fifth of five 2017 elections in which the pro-life candidate endorsed by National Right to Life won. . . . Read More

Court Dismisses 14 Bogus Charges Against David Daleiden for Exposing Planned Parenthood

David Daleiden
In a huge victory, a California court today dismissed almost all of the criminal charges abortion activists filed against the pro-life advocates who recorded undercover videos exposing Planned Parenthood selling the body parts from aborted babies.

California Attorney General Xavier Becerra filed 15 felony charges against both David Daleiden and Sandra Merritt. The San Francisco Superior Court on Wednesday dismissed 14 of 15 criminal counts but the pair are still charged with one count of conspiracy to invade privacy. In a statement to LifeNews, pro-life attorney Mat Svaer of LibertyCounsel, representing Merritt, said, “This is a huge victory to have 14 criminal counts dismissed.”

“We will now turn our attention to dismissing the final count. Sandra Merritt did nothing wrong. The complaint by the California Attorney General is unprecedented and frankly will threaten every journalist who provides valuable information to the public. Pro-Life Advocate Karen Handel Who Took on Planned Parenthood Wins Congressional Election

Karen Handel
The woman who took on Planned Parenthood and tried to stop the Komen Breast Cancer organization from funding the abortion business won a special congressional election last night.

Karen Handel was in charge of Komen at the time it decided to defund the Planned Parenthood abortion company. She later quit when the organization’s board quickly reversed her decision after Planned Parenthood and the mainstream media heaped significant scorn on the organization.

Now Handel will take her pro-life use to Congress and continue fighting the nation’s largest abortion business.

Today, pro-life advocates are congratulating Handel for her solid win against pro-abortion Democrat Jon Ossoff in the highly publicized special election for Tom Price’s seat in Georgia. The election in Georgia’s sixth congressional district was touted by many to be a bellwether race for the 2018 elections.

“Jon Ossoff supported abortion on demand and lost,” said Carol Tobias, National Right to Life president. “Karen Handel’s position on life reflects the true values of Georgia’s voters. Senate Will Vote Next Week on Bill to Repeal Obamacare, Defund Planned Parenthood

The U.S. Senate will vote next week on legislation that is expected to repeal Obamacare and defund the Planned Parenthood abortion business.

The House has already approved the reconciliation bill to accomplish both of those tasks and the Senate has been working for months trying to iron out language that will please both Liberal Republicans as well as conservatives. Liberal Republicans Susan Collins of Maine and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska support abortion and have been a thorn in the side of Republican leaders attempting to put this bill together because they oppose defunding the Planned Parenthood abortion company.

Meanwhile pro-life Republican Senator Rand Paul of Kentucky has been a holdout on the bill as well because he believes it doesn’t go far enough and repealing every aspect of Obamacare.

Leading pro-life organizations have been calling for months for the Senate to move forward with the legislation after the house nearly approved it. Today news reports indicated they will get their wish. . . . . . . Read More

ACLU, Planned Parenthood Challenge Five Arkansas Pro-Life Laws

Jerry Cox
by Jerry Cox: On Tuesday the ACLU and Planned Parenthood filed legal challenges against five pro-life laws recently passed by the Arkansas Legislature.

Family Council President Jerry Cox released a statement, saying, “These lawsuits are almost unbelievable. The ACLU is challenging laws designed to do things like help protect underage girls and ensure doctors know a woman’s medical history before performing an abortion. Planned Parenthood is challenging laws that hold abortion clinics to reasonable health and safety standards. The fact the ACLU and Planned Parenthood would challenge laws like these shows they are severely out of touch with the rest of Arkansas.”

Cox noted that some of these laws passed the Arkansas Legislature with virtually no controversy. “Most of these are commonsense pieces of legislation that protect the health and safety of women. Act 733 requires the doctor to request the medical records of the pregnant woman before performing an abortion on her. I think most Arkansans would be shocked to think a doctor might perform an abortion without knowing the woman’s medical history, but the ACLU is challenging this provision in the law.

“Act 1018 made a small change to a law passed two years ago. It simply requires doctors to file a report with the State Crime Lab after performing an abortion on a girl under seventeen. It’s designed to catch perpetrators of human trafficking and incest. Act 603 requires aborted fetal remains to be buried or cremated like miscarried fetal remains. It’s tragic the ACLU and others would have so little regard for the health and safety of women as to challenge these good laws.”

Cox said Planned Parenthood is challenging a law regarding licensure and inspection of abortion clinics. “This law simply ensures abortion clinics are properly licensed, inspected, and regulated. Courts have ruled repeatedly that abortion clinics can be regulated under public health and safety laws. That’s what this legislation does.”

Cox noted the ACLU is also challenging Act 45 that prohibits some abortion procedures in which an unborn baby is physically dismembered, saying, “Over the years, abortion procedures have changed. Some of the procedures that were fairly common years ago would be illegal and unthinkable today. Act 45 of 2017 is simply another chapter in that story. It generally prohibits one particular abortion procedure in which the unborn baby is physically dismembered, but does not affect other much more common abortion procedures.”

Cox said he expects a pro-life victory from these lawsuits. “I believe these laws can withstand a legal challenge. However, anytime someone challenges a pro-life law, there’s always a pro-life victory in the ruling. When the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals struck part of Arkansas’ fetal heartbeat law a few years ago, some of the findings in the ruling actually made it easier for us to pass more pro-life legislation in 2015. I believe these lawsuits will simply pave the way for even better pro-life laws in the future—no matter how the courts rule.”

Media Ignore's Shooter James Hodgkinson List Had of Other Pro-Life Congressmen to Assassinate

James T. Hodgkinson
Saturday evening, Eric Tucker and Erica Werner at the Associated Press were clearly determined to tell readers as little as they possibly could about the list of GOP lawmakers’ names found on James Hodgkinson after he was killed trying to assassinate several congressmen and others present at a baseball practice in Alexandria, Virginia on Wednesday. . . .

. . . The Daily Caller first broke news about the list on Friday:

Assassination List Found On James Hodgkinson’s Body

James T. Hodgkinson, the shooter who opened fire on dozens of Republican congressmen and staffers at a baseball practice in Alexandria, Virginia, on Wednesday, had a list of Republican names in his pocket that was recovered by the FBI, The Daily Caller has learned.

Keep up with the latest pro-life news and information on Twitter.
The news that the shooter had a list of names suggests the shooting was not a random outburst, but instead appears to be a premeditated political assassination.

The list was written out on notepad paper and found in the shooter’s pocket, according to multiple sources with intimate knowledge of the situation, who spoke on condition of anonymity, citing the sensitivity of the investigation. The list of names included Alabama Rep. Mo Brooks, South Carolina Rep. Jeff Duncan and Arizona Rep. Trent Franks, TheDC has confirmed.
The Daily Caller report went on to acknowledge that Fox News had identified additional names on the list.

Here are several paragraphs from that Fox report:

Scalise shooter James Hodgkinson had list of Republican lawmakers’ names

The gunman who opened fire on congressmen at a Virginia baseball field on Wednesday had a list of Republican names in his pocket at the time of the incident, Fox News has confirmed.

The handwritten list was found in a van belonging to James Hodgkinson by the FBI, and the lawmakers named on the list are known to be conservative members associated with the Freedom Caucus:

Reps. Scot DesJarlais (R-TN) (pronounced day-zharr-LAY), Trent Franks (R-AZ), Jeff Duncan (R-SC), Jim Jordan (R-OH), Mo Brooks (R-AL) and Morgan Griffith (R-VA).
. . .

It’s all too easy to believe that what AP reporters and the AP itself really want is for most of the public to know as little as possible about Hodgkinson’s list — particularly that it only contained the names of conservative Republicans. . . . Read More

Daleiden Charges: And the Arrest Is History

David Daleiden
Tony Perkin's Washington Update: If abortion groups are trying to keep a low profile, they're not doing a very good job of it. While Congress debates whether taxpayers should fund the likes of Planned Parenthood, the industry has spent the last six months trying to avoid headlines. That will be impossible now, thanks to a federal judge who's threatening to send the man responsible for exposing the grisly business to jail.

At issue now is whether Daleiden's team violated the court's order by posting new footage of clinic workers talking about the grisly details of abortion (and an admission that they sometimes "[alter the procedure for financial gain"]. BuzzFeed insists the Center for Medical Progress (CMP) is in serious hot water now, having "flouted multiple injunctions and court-issued seals by posting more shocking videos of abortion providers and identifying 14 of the John/Jane Does participating in the state criminal complaint against him and his recording partner Sandra Merritt. Those names were previously under a court seal." If the court holds Daleiden in contempt for going public with the tapes, it could be "punishable by fines, jail time and disbarment for the attorneys involved."

California Attorney General Xavier Becerra is doing his best to make that pain a reality. Together with the National Abortion Federation, the state's top law enforcer is pushing for the maximum penalty against the Daleiden's team. And with Planned Parenthood's PAC on his donor rolls, it's no wonder why. "Before becoming the current attorney general," RedState points out, "Becerra was a state representative and over years received thousands in donations from PPFA." That investment is paying off handsomely for the abortion industry, which has watched with satisfaction as the courts and AG's office work overtime to protect their pals from investigations like David's.

The pro-lifer was already in an uphill climb against federal Judge William Orrick, who's responsible for putting the videos under lock and key to begin with. And according to records, Orrick has some interesting political connections of his own. Not only was he appointed by President Obama but as documents show, raised $200,000 for Obama's campaign. So much for impartiality! This is the same judge who -- despite an independent forensic report -- insisted, "[CMP's projects] thus far have not been pieces of journalistic integrity, but misleadingly edited videos and unfounded assertions." That intimidation continued with Orrick's warning: "Mr. Daleiden better be well advised by his lawyers ... that he is obligated to follow the Court's orders and not try to skate around them and cause real harm to human beings and [legally] to himself."

Of course, the tragic irony is that real harm is already being done to human beings. And not by David Daleiden! If his work has proven anything, it's who the real culprits are. To the pro-life movement, David is a hero, who's put an exclamation point on taxpayers' insistence that Congress defund these groups. In the meantime, the attorneys for CMP aren't taking this collusion lying down. They've argued all along that the tapes are protected by the First Amendment -- and former Los Angeles County District Attorney Steve Cooley agrees. The case against Daleiden is "beyond weak," he told reporters. "He is being persecuted for using very law-based efforts to expose corruption and criminality." And he's not alone. Even the LA Times editorial board found the 15 felony charges bogus!

FRC's Arina Grossu is one of millions who thinks the abortion industry should be paying the price -- not CMP.
"David Daleiden is a courageous hero for exposing the gory reality of the abortion industry and its sale of baby body parts. The implicated parties, including the National Abortion Federation and Planned Parenthood, want to hide the truth from the general public about 'the heads that get stuck', the baby eyeballs falling into laps during abortions, using forceps to 'pull off a leg or two', and executives even admitting that abortion is violence and killing a person. David Daleiden's First Amendment rights must be protected. The perpetrators exposed in these videos should be put in jail, not the messenger exposing them."Even staring down time behind bars, the pro-life leader has no regrets. "The story is not over yet," Daleiden said. "They've brought it all back front and center again." Even now, facing a prison sentence for blowing the lid off of these clinics' real agenda, he's just happy the videos are back in the news. "I'm all in. We have more videos that have yet to be released and there are more battles that have yet to be fought," Daleiden said. "I'm not giving up." Neither will we -- not until abortion is held in the contempt that it deserves.

Sec. of State Tillerson Defends Trump’s Pro-Life Actions in State Department Budget Hearings

by Lisa Correnti (C-Fam): U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson defended President Donald J. Trump’s pro-life policies during four separate Congressional hearings this week on the president’s proposed budget. The budget slashes global family planning monies, which have been used to fund international abortion groups.

Tillerson is tasked with reducing the U.S foreign policy budget by thirty percent to $37.6 billion. He testified that the foreign policy budget had increased sixty percent since 2007, and that President Trump’s budget reform restores historic funding levels while preserving U.S. leadership abroad.

Tillerson remained poised as he responded to criticism from Senate and House Members on cuts to multi-lateral organizations, humanitarian assistance, diplomatic programs and global health.

Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), an abortion advocate who sought to codify the permanent removal of the Mexico City Policy that prohibits foreign aid funds to abortion, challenged the Secretary of State on the policy and on the elimination of family planning funding. Those funds increased to over $600 million under the Obama administration despite near universal saturation of the contraceptive market in the same period.

Shaheen asked whether the administration would alter the Mexico City Policy if an assessment after six months revealed negative health outcomes. Dissatisfied with Tillerson’s first response, she pressed further, “Would you be comfortable with such an impact to women’s health?” Unfazed, Tillerson reaffirmed the policy, stating, “we will carry out [MCP] consistent with the President’s order.”

During the House Foreign Affairs Committee hearing on Wednesday, Congressman Ami Bera (D-CA) continued Senator Shaheen’s line of questioning by asking Secretary Tillerson if he would recommend reversing Mexico City Policy if a six-month review revealed adverse effects. Tillerson replied that the implementation process included meetings with major health delivery non-governmental organizations to mitigate effects on delivery. While he said he would not recommend policy reversal he said he was open to issuing waivers should he and the Secretary of Health and Human Services deem it necessary.

Congressman Chirs Smith (R-NJ) urged Tillerson not to grant such waivers. “Global health ought to be inclusive not exclusive of unborn children,” Smith said. Waivers “would have the perverse impact of incentivizing foreign NGOs to be non-compliant with the Mexico City Policy,” he continued. The only groups that did not comply when the policy was last in place under the George W. Bush administration were abortion giants International Planned Parenthood and Marie Stopes International.

The Mexico City Policy implementation guidelines prevent, in most cases, foreign non-government organizations that perform or lobby for abortion from receiving global health funding. President Trump also withdrew funding from the UN Population Fund – a source that also funds abortion organizations.

Foreign organizations performing abortions in twenty-seven countries today would retain funding, however, due to the legal restrictions permitted under the Mexico City Policy. Eliminating family planning funding within the global health account would eliminate this loophole. Family planning through humanitarian assistance for victims of sexual violence would remain in place.

Appropriators in both the House and Senate are drafting their own State Department budgets. In an effort to ensure that pro-life advances overseas are maintained, Senator Mike Lee (R-UT) drafted a letter signed by eighteen colleagues requesting the codification of the Mexico City Policy and the Kemp-Kasten provision. Congressman Smith drafted a similar letter, which gained eighty-one signatures.

This Republican is “Committed” to Forcing You to Fund Planned Parenthood

At least one Republican is bucking the party’s pro-life stance by supporting taxpayer funding for the abortion giant Planned Parenthood.

U.S. Sen. Lisa Murkowski of Alaska told her constituents that she is “committed” to forcing taxpayers to fund the abortion chain, according to a new Politico report. She and U.S. Sen. Susan Collins, a Republican from Maine, could get in the way of federal defunding efforts in the Senate, which is narrowly held by Republicans.

The U.S. House passed a bill in May to defund the abortion group of hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars and repeal and replace Obamacare, but the U.S. Senate has not taken action on the legislation yet.

Efforts to defund the abortion chain gained support in 2015 after the Center for Medical Progress began releasing undercover videos showing top Planned Parenthood officials possibly illegally selling aborted babies’ body parts.

Most Senate Republicans said they want to defund Planned Parenthood, but Murkowski and Collins are exceptions. To pass, a bill would need at least 50 of the 52 votes from Senate Republicans, plus a tie-breaking vote by Vice President Mike Pence, a pro-life Republican. . . . Read More

If You’re Pro-Life With a Rape Exception You Think It’s OK to Abort Me

Mary Rathke
While many liberal media outlets and activists push an abortion-without-apology perspective, nearly all promote the view that abortion is justified in cases of sexual violence. Thus, it was refreshing when Washington Post reporter Danielle Paquette took a pro-life tone in her report of the stories of young men and women born through the tragedy of rape.

In the 1994 civil war that ravaged Rwanda, roughly 250,000 women were raped and 20,000 children born as a result. Now, as those children have come of age, many are defying the odds and proving that all life – even life conceived through sexual violence – has beauty and potential.

While the Tutsi genocide resulted in horrific trauma, and many of the victims and their children still suffer from poverty, HIV and psychological distress, young Rwandans like Angel are working to pursue their dreams and contribute to the world.

When she was younger, Angel’s mother Jacqueline tried to poison her. She rejected her and refused to call Angel her own. After all, Jacqueline had been happily married with two children when the Civil War began; by its end, she was left with HIV and an unwanted child who reminded her of the trauma she had endured.

A pattern of love and hate continued until the duo were able to begin therapy with Foundation Rwanda, where Jacqueline became a Christian. At that point, Paquette wrote, Jacqueline felt that her child was a gift and not a curse.

Mother and daughter both have HIV, but they have medicine for their bodies and hope in their souls. And they are not the only story of redemption in Rwanda, or the many other countries that have faced the horrors of war crimes. . . .

“Even those in the pro-life movement think it’s OK to abort me,” speaker Mary Rathke said. “Because I hear all the time, ‘I’m pro-life, except in the case of rape.’ I’m really hearing, ‘I’m pro-life, except in the case of Mary Rathke.”

“Just because my father was a rapist doesn’t mean I don’t deserve life,” she stressed.

Travon Clifton, who used to be pro-choice, quickly changed her mind when she discovered the truth of her own past.

“I realized that when I was supporting the exception [for rape or incest], I was consenting to my own death,” she explained.

“If we look at the message that society says, it says we are expendable,” she continued. “It says that there’s really no value in us, as if we were some kind of mistake.” . . .  Read More

Southern Baptist Church: We Will Never Stop Fighting Abortion and Planned Parenthood

The Southern Baptist Convention is standing strong for the rights of unborn babies, leader Russell Moore said this week.

Moore is the president of the Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission (ERLC), the public policy arm of the Christian denomination, one of the largest in the world. The convention’s annual meeting was this week.

On Wednesday, Moore released his annual report at the convention, explaining that protection of human life has been a top priority in the past year, the Baptist Press reports.

Specifically, Moore said the ERLC has focused on supporting efforts to defund the abortion chain Planned Parenthood of billions of taxpayer dollars.

“And over the last year, if there is one thing that has become more clear, it is that Planned Parenthood is no friend to women, no friend to children and no friend to life and human dignity,” Moore said. “[W]e live in an age in which our own government subsidizes the piracy and grave-robbing of defenseless infants who have no voice at all.”

He said ERLC is educating legislators and the public about the abortion industry through campaigns, the Evangelicals for Life conference in January and other means, according to the report.

Moore said ERLC also collected thousands of signatures from people urging federal lawmakers to defund the Planned Parenthood abortion business and delivered them to lawmakers.

Abortion is Planned Parenthood’s main business, and its leaders have refused to give it up and focus on providing real health care to women. In 2015, it performed 328,348 abortions on unborn babies, nearly 5,000 more than the previous year. . . . Read More

Pro-Life Rep. Steve Scalise Still in Critical Condition After Shooting, Needs Another Surgery

Prayers are still needed for pro-life Congressman Steve Scalise, who was injured yesterday after he was shot by a liberal activist.

Scalise sustained a single rifle shot to the left hip. The bullet traveled across his pelvis — fracturing bones, injuring internal organs, and causing severe bleeding. He was transported in shock to MedStar Washington Hospital Center, a Level I Trauma Center.

Scalise underwent immediate surgery and an additional procedure to stop bleeding. He has received multiple units of blood transfusion. His condition is critical, and he will require additional operations, the hospital indicated.

Scalise was one of four people shot while at a practice baseball game in Alexandria, Virginia, shortly after 7 a.m. T Wednesday. The shooting suspect, James Hodgkinson, was killed by police. Scalise was shot in the hip . . .

Pew Study Minimalizes Christian Persecution

by Bill Donohue: Most studies that measure attacks on religion speak about religious persecution. A Pew Research Center article released June 9, based on a Pew study that was published in April, takes a different tack: it provides data on religious groups that have been “harassed or intimidated.”

It does not address the severity or frequency of the harassment, and therefore “the results should not be interpreted as gauging which religious group faces the most harassment or persecution around the world.”

This is an honest description of the study’s goal. But the decision to skirt which religious groups are the most persecuted—and to eschew an account of who is doing the persecution—is a serious omission. It would be like doing a report on crime by focusing on misdemeanors to the neglect of felonies.

The study also fails to define with any precision what it means by “social hostilities”; it cites them as an index of harassment. Other studies do a better job on the subject of religious victimization.

The 2016 Annual Report issued by the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom names nine nations as the most egregious violators of religious liberty in the world: they “torture or use cruel, inhuman, or degrading treatment or punishment.” Christians are persecuted in all of them.

Five of the persecuting nations are run by Muslims (Iran, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan); two are Communist dictatorships (China and North Korea); one is Buddhist run (Burma); and one is a secular tyranny (Eritrea).

We know from many studies of religious persecution that there are some undeniable facts. Here are three of them:
  • There is no country in the world run by Christians that persecutes people of faith.
  • There is no religious group more persecuted than Christians.
  • There is no religious group that persecutes people of faith more than Muslims.
Any study that does not punctuate these facts is minimalizing Christian persecution; it also minimalizes the role played by the victimizers, namely, Muslims and Communists.

The headline to the recent Pew article on the study is also problematic: “Christians Faced Widespread Harassment in 2015, but Mostly in Christian-Majority Countries.”

It is misleading to say that Christians are harassed in mostly Christian-majority nations. It suggests that Christians are persecuting Christians, which is simply not true. Furthermore, the Pew study cites only two nations to back up its claim, Nicaragua and Eritrea. They are poor choices.

Nicaragua is not run by Christians—it is run by atheist left-wing dictators. Eritrea is not run by Christians either. Some studies say the nation is half Muslim and half Christian, while others say it is majority Muslim. No matter, it is not Christians who are doing the persecution.

The headline about Christians being harassed in mostly Christian-majority nations looks even more flatulent when we consider an analogy with South Africa. When it was a dictatorship, the South African rulers were white and the persecuted were black. Would it not be misleading to say that blacks were harassed in a black-majority nation?

Open Doors, a Christian entity, has done great work on this subject, though it is curiously not cited as a resource by Pew (it does cite the ADL). This is regrettable given the comprehensiveness of its reporting. Interestingly, it raised the issue about Christians being victimized in Christian-majority nations, providing an authoritative response.

Q: “Some of these countries have large Christian populations, yet they remain on the list. Why is that?”

A: “There are countries on the list which have a rather large Christian population and remain on the list for numerous reasons. In countries like Columbia, Christians face persecution from rebel groups in certain parts of the country. While non-Christians also experience violence from these groups, Christian leaders are specifically targeted because many people have left the rebel groups after coming to Christ. The church is often seen as a threat by these groups because of this and is often attacked.”

There are other anomalies that should be considered. For example, there are nations such as Kenya which have a large Christian majority, yet in those areas that are dominated by Islam, they are persecuted.

Finally, a word about harassment. Many Catholics, as well as others, regard the Obama administration’s HHS mandate forcing Catholic non-profits to pay for abortion-inducing drugs in their healthcare plans as a classic example of government harassment of a religious group. There is no evidence that Pew does.

We have long praised the Pew Research Center for its work. This study did not meet its usual standard of excellence.

Planned Parenthood Fights to Do Secret Abortions on Teen Girls Without Parental Consent

Planned Parenthood lawyers argued in an Indiana court Tuesday that abortion clinics should be allowed to perform abortions on young girls without their parents’ knowledge.

In May, the abortion chain and the American Civil Liberties Union filed a lawsuit challenging a new Indiana parental consent law. It is scheduled to go into effect in July.

On Tuesday, lawyers for Planned Parenthood of Indiana and Kentucky and the ACLU asked a federal judge to block the law . . .

They contended that young girls may seek abortions because of troubled or abusive home environments – an argument that does not make sense because the law allows a judge to wave the parental consent requirement in such cases.

The law strengthens current state laws regarding parental rights by requiring abortion providers to obtain proof of consent from a parent or legal guardian before a girl under 18 has an abortion. It gives parents/legal guardians a civil recourse if someone fraudulently poses as a parent in order for a minor girl to get an abortion. It also makes sure parents are involved if a minor appears before a judge to request an abortion without parental consent.

On Tuesday, the abortion activists’ lawyers argued that abortion clinics should not be required to check the parent’s or guardian’s ID and proof of guardianship before performing the abortion, according to the report.

Planned Parenthood leaders claim this new requirement is burdensome, but its purpose is to protect young girls from abuse. Sexual abusers have been known to take their young victims to abortion clinics to cover up rape and pregnancy. The new requirement would help ensure abusers are not posing as their young victim’s parent or guardian.

The pro-abortion groups also are challenging a measure in the law that prohibits abortion clinics from telling young girls where to go in other states to get abortions without a parent’s knowledge.

In a statement in May, the ACLU of Indiana claimed the provisions violate young girls’ constitutional rights by imposing “new burdens” on their access to abortion.

The judge is expected to make a decision on the case by the end of the month. . . . Read More
