Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau Calls Unlimited Abortions Up to Birth a Human Right

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has said that Ireland should treat abortion as a “human rights” issue.

At a three-day meeting in Canada between Mr Trudeau and Leo Varadkar, the Irish taoiseach, the two leaders spoke about Mr Varadkar’s plan to hold a referendum next year to repeal the Eighth Amendment to the Irish constitution, which protects the right to life of the unborn child.

“We discussed the issue of abortion, which I know is an important issue for a lot of campaigners for women’s rights in Canada,” Mr Varadkar said. “I updated the prime minister on our plans to have a referendum next year to give the people of Ireland the opportunity to remove our constitutional ban on abortion, should they wish to do so.”

“Fundamental rights” - Asked whether he had any advice for Mr Varadkar, Mr Trudeau said so-called “reproductive rights” were fundamental human rights.

“On the issue of reproductive rights, I shared our perspective that reproductive rights for women are integral to women’s rights in general and women’s rights are human rights and I encouraged him to look at it as a question of fundamental rights for women and we had a good discussion on that,” he said.

Example to follow? Canada has one of the most permissive abortion regimes in the world with abortion allowed up to birth and for any reason. Mr Trudeau has also made clear that all MPs in his Liberal Party are required to vote with the “pro-choice” side on any bills, regardless of their personal beliefs. In Britain abortion has traditionally been seen as a conscience issue. . . . Read More

Apple Will Donate $1 Million to Pro-Abortion Group

Apple Inc. Chief Executive Tim Cook has announced that the tech company will make a $1 million donation to a pro-abortion organization, the Southern Poverty Law Center. However the organization not only supports abortion but was linked to a liberal activist who shot up the office of the pro-life group Family Research Council.

The donations were made supposedly to counter white supremacy. . . .

But, in a chilling Federal Bureau of Investigation interrogation video, Floyd Lee Corkins, who shot up the offices of the Family Research Council on August 15, 2012, says that he picked his target from the Southern Poverty Law Center’s (SPLC) website. Corkins entered the lobby armed with a loaded semi-automatic pistol, 100 rounds of ammunition, and 15 Chick-fil-A sandwiches. He started firing at FRC’s building manager Leo Johnson who heroically tackled the shooter after a gunshot shattered his arm. . . .

FRC president Tony Perkins said Corkins act of terrorism has put sunlight on SPLC, which has targeted a wide swath of Americans for standing up for traditional values, most often Christian and conservative.

“The SPLC’s reckless labeling has led to devastating consequences,” said FRC President Tony Perkins. “Because of its ‘hate group’ labeling, a deadly terrorist had a guidemap to FRC and other organizations. Our team is still dealing with the fallout of the attack, that was intended to have a chilling effect on organizations that are simply fighting for their values.”

“The Southern Poverty Law Center, which has now been linked to domestic terrorism in federal court, should put an immediate stop to its practice of labeling organizations that oppose their [agenda],” continued Perkins.

“In a civil society, shutting down debate is not how reasonable people and organizations operate. Intimidating and bullying others shreds the ‘ordered liberty’ of which our Founders wrote and for which they advocated, and places all of us in jeopardy of losing our sacred rights as militant extremists claim the public square exclusively for themselves,” concluded Perkins. . . . Planned Parenthood Abortion Business May Open Clinic at Local High School

Parents and pro-life advocates urged a Pennsylvania school board Wednesday to reject a proposal to put a Planned Parenthood-run facility inside Reading High School.

The Reading Eagle reports the facility would not do abortions at the high school, but Planned Parenthood staffers would offer students sex education, counseling about reproductive health and referrals to their abortion facility in Reading.

Pro-lifers with Students for Life, the Pennsylvania Family Institute and others have been joining local parents to protest the proposal in the past few months. On June 21, about 80 pro-life advocates stood outside the Reading School District to urge the school board to oppose the Planned Parenthood-run center.

The center was proposed by the sex education advocacy group AccessMatters in May 2017 and would be facilitated by Planned Parenthood Keystone. The center would be located inside the high school and would give the abortion chain direct access to young, vulnerable students.

In addition, the center would be paid for by tax dollars, according to the Pennsylvania Family Institute. . . .  Read More

Missouri Democrat Senator Says She Hopes President Trump is Assassinated

Missouri State Sen. Maria Chappelle-Nadal (D) says there’s “no way in hell” she will be resigning from her post, despite pleas from prominent state Democrats and Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-MO). In a now-deleted Facebook comment, Chappelle-Nadal said that she hoped President Donald Trump would be assassinated. . . . The comment reads “I hope Trump is assassinated!” and is in reply to a family member of a Secret Service agent who was wondering if someone would attack the president.

Chappelle-Nadal told Missouri station KMOX that since other members of the legislature had not resigned despite marital infidelity and smoking in the capitol, she would not resign either. Chappelle-Nadal referred to the comment as a “mistake” and said that she is “owning up to” it.

Chappelle-Nadal told KMOX’s Carol Daniel, “There is no way in hell that I’m resigning. There are legislators who have cheated on their wives, they have smoked in the legislature, in the state capitol. If they have not been asked to resign for those acts, which I do believe that cheating on your wife or your spouse is immoral, I am not resigning for a mistake that I made and that I’m owning up to.”
She also said that while she wished she had chosen better words, she stands by the frustration and anger that led her to say she wished that the president was dead. . . . . . . Read More

UN Abortion Groups Attack Religious Medical Providers, Right of Conscience for Health Workers

NEW YORK, August 18 (C-Fam) In early August, an international group of abortion advocates met in Uruguay to discuss the potential removal of conscience protections for healthcare providers with regard to abortion.

Religious freedom is an obstacle to women’s health, according to conference organizer International Women’s Health Coalition (IWHC). The group encourages advocates to ensure “that professional bodies recognize that personal beliefs can seriously undermine the provision of women-centered, professional health services.”

The IWHC and co-sponsor Mujer y Salud en Uruguay (MYSU) chose to host the conference in Uruguay because it has one of the most permissive abortion laws in Latin America. Nevertheless, more than half of Uruguay’s medical providers refuse to perform abortions due to conscientious objection. High percentages of objectors are not uncommon in countries that allow legal abortion, including Ghana (97%) and Italy (70%).

Conference participants claimed that religious or moral objections to providing abortions “must be tackled,” arguing that women unable to obtain legal and “safe” abortions will inevitably seek potentially deadly clandestine procedures. Rather than encouraging women to choose life, they concluded that medical workers must be forced to cause death.

Among the featured speakers was Dr. Christian Fiala, an Austrian gynecologist who has published several articles denouncing rights of conscience. In his most recent article, Fiala said that conscientious objection “gives legitimacy to the religiously-based assumption that abortion is wrong,” and singled out the Catholic Church as an enforcer of “traditional (sexist) beliefs about women and motherhood.” According to Fiala, even if lawmakers are allowed consciences, doctors are not: “[i]f the treatment is legal… there is simply no excuse to refuse.”

Fiala’s commitment to the primacy of abortion led him to denounce what he called “faith-based medicine” and organized religion in general. Fiala expressed doubt that conscientious objection in Latin America may not be possible to “fix” “until organized religion loses much of its influence.” . . . Read More

Mike Huckabee: If They Tear Down Memorials They Find Offensive Can We Tear Down Abortion Clinics?

Reacting to growing racial tension culminating in the tearing down of United States monuments, pro-life former presidential candidate Mike Huckabee asked people to think about society’s reaction if he began tearing down things that offend him – like abortion clinics.

The former Arkansas governor and presidential candidate appeared Wednesday on Fox News to discuss the vandalism and other violence resulting from a white supremacist protest and counter-protest in Charlottesville, Virginia last weekend and the tearing down of memorials across the country in recent days.

“Anarchists go and just tear down the statues [of Confederates and historical figures who were slave owners] because they are impatient with politicians doing it,” Huckabee said. “… that is not acceptable behavior, it is vandalism, it is anarchy, and it would be like me saying ‘I don’t like abortion clinics, so I’m going to go to tear them down because I find them offensive.’”
To be clear, and the vast majority of pro-life organizations and individuals oppose illegal activity, including vandalism and other forms of violence. Huckabee’s comment was a hypothetical situation, and, later in the interview, he emphasized that he does not condone any illegal acts, either.

“Nobody would justify that, including me,” Huckabee said of tearing down abortion clinics. . . . Read More

Sarah Palin Condemns Iceland for Aborting Almost Every Baby With Down Syndrome

Former Gov. Sarah Palin is mother to a beautiful 9-year-old boy named Trig. He happens to have Down syndrome. You can imagine how she reacted, then, to the CBS report that Iceland is “eliminating” children with the syndrome via abortion.

“This intolerance for people who may not look like you is so wrong, it’s so evil,” Palin said on Fox News Tuesday night.

Iceland is a “beautiful country,” she recalled, but “it won’t be so beautiful it they continue down this path.”

Choking back tears, Palin was shocked that the government is trying to “snuff out the life” of those who don’t look like their subjective view of perfection. It is a culture that hearkens back to neo-Nazi Germany, she noted.

“Children with Down syndrome are “unique and make the world more unique,” Palin said.

Palin also criticized the “celebratory” tone CBS used when it tweeted about Iceland’s anti-life agenda. . . .

The vice presidential candidate and her son have been the victims of mockery since she entered the political spotlight. In 2011, Wonkette published a piece, which they have since removed, in which they called Trig “retarded.” No mother should have to subjected to such cruel rhetoric.

Palin acknowledged on Fox that she was “full of fear” when she was handed the diagnosis that Trig may be born with Down syndrome. She was “brought down to her knees” and asked God to prepare her.

“The minute Trig was born, the fear went anyway,” she said. . . . .Read More

Eighth Circuit Hands Down Another Pro-Life Victory . . .

. . . Arkansas my terminate Planned Parenthood as a Medicaid provider!

On Wednesday a three judge panel from the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals ruled Arkansas can decline to provide Medicaid reimbursements to abortion providers. The ruling comes as part of an ongoing lawsuit filed after the State of Arkansas cut Medicaid funding for Planned Parenthood in 2015.

Family Council President Jerry Cox issued a statement : “The Eighth Circuit did the right thing today. Arkansans have made it clear time and again they do not want tax money going to abortion providers. Many Arkansans have moral objections to abortion. They don’t want their hard-earned money subsidizing abortion providers.”

Cox praised Governor Asa Hutchinson and Arkansas Attorney General Leslie Rutledge for defending the state’s decision to cut Medicaid funding for Planned Parenthood. “Governor Asa Hutchinson’s bold leadership is what led the state to cut ties with Planned Parenthood in the first place. Our governor has always been a staunch pro-life advocate. Arkansas’ attorney general is defending at least seven pro-life laws and policies in court right now. I don’t know of any attorney general in America who is doing more to fight for the right to life. Her team has won some major victories in the past few weeks, and I believe we will see more in the months to come.”

Gov. Asa Hutchinson issued the following statement in response to the 8th Circuit Court of Appeals ruling vacating the injunction that had prevented the state from terminating Planned Parenthood’s status as a Medicaid provider:

“In 2015, the state terminated its Medicaid provider agreement with Planned Parenthood because there was evidence that Planned Parenthood and its affiliates were acting in an unethical manner and engaging in what appeared to be wrongful conduct. I am pleased with the ruling of the 8th Circuit today reversing Judge Baker on her injunction that blocked the state from proceeding.

“The decision allows the state to proceed with the termination of Planned Parenthood as a Medicaid provider. This is a substantial legal victory for the right of the state to determine whether Medicaid providers are acting in accordance with best practices and affirms the prerogative of the state to make reasoned judgments on the Medicaid program.”

Trump Admin Demands End To Harmful Experiments Making Babies With 3 Parents

The Food and Drug Administration warned a fertility doctor to stop marketing an unapproved IVF technology that creates a human embryo using the DNA of three people.

In a strongly worded August 4 letter, the FDA reminded New York-based Dr. John Zhang that it had declined his request to run clinical trials on the experimental technique mitochondrial replacement technology, or MRT.

Since December 2015, Congress has prohibited the FDA from reviewing applications on clinical tests involving genetically modified human embryos “until safety and ethical issues can be resolved,” reports Bloomberg BNA.

“Also, researchers don’t know what impact the procedure will have on the babies it produces,” it notes.

MRT aims to prevent diseases passed through mitochondrial DNA by transferring the mother’s nuclear DNA to a donor egg in which the nucleus has been removed but the mitochondria remains.

Zhang, who runs New Hope Fertility Clinic and associated company Darwin Life, has previously been in the news for claiming to engineer the “first live birth” using the MRT technique he says he pioneered.

That was for a woman who carried the gene for Leigh’s syndrome, a rare neurological disorder. She had four miscarriages and the two children she delivered died at age six and eight months, according to CBS News.

Zhang created three-DNA human embryos for the couple in the States, then took the embryos to Mexico where he implanted them in the mother.

Creating genetically modified human embryos in a lab is allowed in the U.S. if federal funds aren’t used, but implanting them in a womb is prohibited, according to MIT Technology Review.

The mother gave birth to a boy in April 2016.

“This is the very first time at least in human reproduction that the offspring are produced with three parties – one sperm and different parts of two eggs,” Zhang told CBS News at the time. “So this is very revolutionary.” . . . Read More

Texas Governor Signs Bill Banning Taxpayer Funding of Abortions

Texas Governor Greg Abbott signed a bill today that bans taxpayer funding of abortions via the insurance industry.

Abbott signed House Bill 214 (HB 214) that will protect Texans from paying for the abortions of others through their tax dollars and health insurance premiums. The bill limits insurance coverage for abortion procedures. Under this new law Texans will not be forced to pay for elective abortions through their insurance plans. This legislation is an important piece of the Governor’s pro-life agenda that has been championed by Sen. Brandon Creighton and Rep. John Smithee this special session.

“As a firm believer in Texas values I am proud to sign legislation that ensures no Texan is ever required to pay for a procedure that ends the life of an unborn child,” said Governor Abbott in a statement to LifeNews. “This bill prohibits insurance providers from forcing Texas policy holders to subsidize elective abortions. I am grateful to the Texas legislature for getting this bill to my desk, and working to protect innocent life this special session.”. . .

SB 20 would ensure that ACA-subsidized plans, state employee plans, or private basic health insurance plans do not include coverage for elective abortions. Texans deserve the right to decide where their insurance and tax dollars go, and they should not be forced to fund the elective abortions of others. The majority of Texans are Pro-Life and neither want nor need insurance coverage for elective abortion. . . . Read More

Dems Blast President Trump's Defunding Planned Parenthood Sex-Ed Programs

The Trump administration is scaling back funding for a sex education program that started in 2010 under President Obama. The 81 Teen Pregnancy Prevention grantees were supposed to receive $200 million through 2020, but were informed by the Department of Health and Human Services last month that the money would dry up in June 2018.

The grantees were “perplexed” by the change, as were several Democratic lawmakers.

“This action is short-sighted and puts at risk the health and well-being of women and our most vulnerable youth who depend on the evidenced-based work that TPP Program grantees are doing across the nation,” a group of Democratic senators wrote in a letter to HHS Secretary Tom Price.

Yet, it’s not hard to figure out why the White House is not interested in continuing to support the program’s agenda. As LifeNews notes, this particular program has donated millions of dollars to Planned Parenthood.

Furthermore, Health and Human Services Department spokesman Mark Vafiades indicated that the Teen Pregnancy Prevention program has little to no impact on teen health. . . .

Alveda King: Abortion is Racism and Takes Away the Civil Rights of Unborn Babies

Alveda King the niece of Dr. Martin Luther King jr is responding today to the white supremacy protests in Charlottesville, Virginia.

King says the white supremacists definitely need to be condemned and that racism is a sin and a blight on society. But the niece of the slain civil rights leader says she believes that abortion is also racism because it denies civil rights to unborn children.

King told LifeNews:

As we see from the most recent racially motivated massacre in Virginia, racism is still alive and raising hell. Think about it. Racism is sin. Hatred is sin. Yet for whatever reason, the pot of domestic terrorism continues to be stirred under the guise of promoting “racial supremacy.”

The big lie is that we are separate races, when in fact the spiritual, scientific and biological fact is that we are one blood; one human race. Racism and hatred are deadly. This is why I so often quote my Uncle MLK: “We must learn to live together as brothers [and sisters], or perish together as fools. I have decided to stick with love. Hate is too great a burden to bear.”

We should be grateful that President Trump is calling for a ceasefire on the violence. My King Family Legacy foundations have taught me that nonviolent conflict reconciliation is the key to ending these “race wars.”
But King also said abortion is racism — a message she admits some people don’t want to hear.

As one of God’s microphones, I’m often required to say what people don’t want to hear. Abortion is racism, in that abortion takes away the civil rights and lives of our weakest and most vulnerable members of the human race, unborn babies. . . . Read More

Almost 1 in 20 Deaths in the Netherlands Killed by Euthanasia

More statistics about euthanasia from the Netherlands, based on the latest figures from 2015. Nearly one death in 20 (4.5%) is now due to euthanasia.

The figures come from a letter in the latest issue of the New England Journal of Medicine. “It looks like patients are now more willing to ask for euthanasia and physicians are more willing to grant it,” said lead author Dr. Agnes van der Heide of Erasmus University Medical Center in Rotterdam.

But the statistics for euthanasia alone masks the proportion of end-of-life decisions in the Netherlands. The figures for some categories overlap, but 4.5% of all deaths happened through euthanasia, 0.1% through physician-assisted suicide; and 18.3% through “continuous deep sedation.”

This last category is slippery and controversial. It accounts for nearly 1 death in 5 in the Netherlands. In some cases doctors agree that it is appropriate for refractory pain; but it can also be a form of “slow euthanasia” used to evade regulation and scrutiny.

. . . Bioethicists observed that the increase was to be expected. “Doctors become more confident in practicing euthanasia and more patients will start asking for it,” said Penney Lewis, co-director of the Centre of Medical Law and Ethics at King’s College London.

Dr. van der Heide suggested that the small but increasing number of euthanasia deaths for people who were not terminally ill was troubling. “When assisted dying is becoming the more normal option at the end of life, there is a risk people will feel more inclined to ask for it,” she said. . . . Opponents of Catholic Pro-Life Teaching To Be Featured at Vatican Conference

Stefano Gennarini, J.D., C-FAM, Friday Fax: At an upcoming conference on global warming, the Vatican academies for science will present the work politicians and academics that support abortion and population control.

Chilean President Michelle Bachelet has been asked to recommend practical solutions to climate change on the first day of the Vatican conference in November. Her participation is especially controversial given that Bachelet introduced legislation to allow abortion in Chile last year that is currently pending. She has also promised to introduce a homosexual “marriage” bill soon.

The high profile pontifical event titled “Health of People and Planet: Our Responsibility” will highlight the “health consequences of climate change” and “make recommendations to be submitted directly to Pope Francis and other world leaders,” according to the Vatican website. Pope Francis will be represented by Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Piero Parolin.

Columbia University economist and UN development guru Jeffrey Sachs will once again be present. His participation in pontifical events has been the criticized in pro-life media before. Sachs led the global effort to place abortion as one of the Millennium Development goals. As head of the Earth Institute at Columbia Sachs has spearheaded a revival of neo-Malthusian fears at the United Nations and academic circles warning that humanity is “trespassing planetary boundaries” and reaching the end of the “Earth’s caring capacity.” Sachs has also written that abortion is a “cost-effective” way to deal with unwanted children.

Sachs is said to be a frequent visitor of the Papal residence at Casa Santa Marta alongside the Chancellor of the Pontifical Academies hosting the conference, Archbishop Marcelo Sanchez Sorondo. The two are credited as the architects of what the Washington Post described as the “coup” that delivered Pope Francis’ endorsement of the theory of catastrophic anthropogenic climate change in the 2015 papal encyclical Laudato Si. That encyclical provided much needed moral backing to UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon and U.S. President Barak Obama’s celebrated Paris Climate Agreement.

University of Washington researcher Howard Frumkin will present his work on a seminal joint Rockefeller-Lancet study on the environment and health. One of the conclusions of that study was that a “reduction in fertility” in developing countries would be positive for the environment.

The study recommends that increased contraception use be promoted in developing countries through mass media, the public health sector, and “culturally appropriate social marketing approaches to increase demand.” It only recommends a change to environmentally friendly lifestyles in wealthy countries, even though it finds that population growth in developed countries will have a “disproportionate effects on environmental sustainability because of their prevailing high consumption lifestyles.”

Representatives of the World Health Organization are also scheduled to speak at the conference about health effects of air pollution and climate change. WHO publications highlight access to contraception as a way to reduce carbon emissions and “mitigate” climate change, though recent studies by UN demographers deny the usefulness of more investments in contraception to prevent catastrophic climate change.

Well known population control theorists expected at the conference include Partha Dasgupta associated with Population Matters, and John Schellnhuber, founder of the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research. Both are known for attempts to estimate the optimal absolute number of people that our planet can sustain.

The conference concept note on the Vatican website describes the threat of climate change as an “existential question of whether civilization as we know it can be extended beyond this century” and calls for “more drastic actions to limit air pollution and climate change below dangerous levels.” . . . . Abortion Activist Attacks Pro-Life Congressman for Voting to Defund Planned Parenthood: “May You Die in Pain”

Abortion activists lobbed a nasty insult at a United States Congressman from California this week after he voted to defund the abortion business Planned Parenthood.

U.S. Rep. Doug LaMalfa, R-California, held a town hall meeting on Monday to discuss health care, the environment, economics and other issues. As has been happening at conservative lawmakers’ town halls across the country, LaMalfa faced a hostile crowd that booed, jeered and shouted insults at him, according to the Washington Post.

One particularly nasty comment came from an abortion activist who was angry at LaMalfa for voting for a bill to defund Planned Parenthood, the nation’s largest abortion business, and repeal portions of Obamacare.

According to the report:“I think that your vote to throw 22 million people off of health is reprehensible and in the service of the rich,” a resident told LaMalfa on his efforts to defund Planned Parenthood.

“I hope you suffer the same painful fate as those millions that you have voted to remove health care from. May you die in pain,” he added.

The comments drew a stream of groans from the audience in a rare moment of sympathy for LaMalfa.

“We pray for our constituents too, sir,” LaMalfa, who took office in 2013, quickly countered.
Hostility against conservative lawmakers and pro-lifers has escalated in the past year, with one gunman opening fire on a field of Republican lawmakers in June as they practiced for an annual Congressional baseball game. The shooter, allegedly James T. Hodgkinson, a liberal activist, injured pro-life Congressman Steve Scalise and two others.

Other pro-life politicians have faced death threats. Texas state Rep. Tony Tinderholt and his family were put under state protection in January after he received multiple death threats related to a bill he introduced to ban abortions.

And in May, a Tennessee woman was charged with a felony after she allegedly chased pro-life U.S. Rep. David Kustoff down a highway, making him and his staff afraid that they would be forced off the road, according to local police.

Though not a direct threat, abortion activists also held an event in Philadelphia earlier this year where they smashed a pinata shaped like pro-life U.S. Sen. Pat Toomey’s head. Organizers collected donations for a local abortion group and encouraged guests to “hit the s— out of Pat Toomey.”

In late 2015, a Missouri pro-life lawmaker also received a death threat while he led an investigation into the abortion giant Planned Parenthood.

LifeNews has been reporting frequently about growing hostility toward pro-lifers.

In two separate incidents this year, two men allegedly threatened to kill pro-life advocates outside abortion facilities in California and Florida.

And in early February, violent threats against a California pro-life leader prompted him to cancel a pro-life rally in Gilroy, LifeNews reported.

Violence also has been directed toward pro-life organizations’ buildings or displays. In November, the FBI became involved when a suspected arson set fire to a pro-life pregnancy center in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

In December, a Christian pro-life organization in Australia was damaged by an explosion in what pro-lifers believe was a “targeted attack,” the BBC reports. Australian Capital Territory Police said a 35-year-old man parked a van filled with bottles of gas right outside the Australia Christian Lobby headquarters in Canberra and lit them, causing an explosion that damaged the building, ABC Australia reports.

On college campuses this spring, student abortion activists also were caught vandalizing pro-life displays and then bragging about them.  . . . Read More

Congressman Walberg Is Telling The Truth About Planned Parenthood

A pro-abortion website has released a false story about a pro-life congressman who is telling the truth about Planned Parenthood.

To hear it from the blog refinery29, Congressman Tim Walberg of Michigan supposedly foisted a big whopper on his constituents when he said that most of what the Planned Parenthood abortion business does has abortions. However it turns out that that’s true and the pro-abortion website is peddling one of the biggest propaganda pieces for Planned Parenthood.

The abortion advocacy blog claims that only 3% of what Planned Parenthood does is abortion. But that false claim has been refuted many times including by The Washington Post, which is no Bastion of pro-life opinion. It turns out refiner29 is lying, as the Washington Post concluded that Planned Parenthood is “misleading,” “using meaningless and incomplete comparisons to make their argument, and the public should wary . . . .”

. . . . As LifeNews has explained many times, Planned Parenthood unbundles all of its services except abortion to create a lopsided and deceptive view of its services. . . . 55% of Planned Parenthood’s clinic income coming from abortion . . .previously calculated this at 51% of its clinic income. It’s clearly grown in recent years. So, at 51% or 55% Congressman Walberg is right. A majority of Planned Parenthood’s business is abortion. . . . Read More

Scientists are Editing the DNA of Unborn Babies in Shocking Experiments

In late July, the MIT Technology Review published news many of us have been dreading: A team of scientists at Oregon Health and Sciences University have successfully created genetically-modified human embryos.

This is an early step, to borrow a headline from the Technology Review, toward “engineering the perfect baby.” It’s an early step in creating a parental arms race in which people with resources scramble to create their vision of the “perfect baby,” with, potentially, the eye color, intelligence, and other traits they desire.

And it’s an early step in playing God with human genetics, one that could very well place humanity on intimate terms with the Devil.

Using a technology known as CRISPR, which enables scientists to edit the genome of anything from bacteria to humans, the researchers “[changed] the DNA of a large number of one-cell embryos” in a way that demonstrated “that it is possible to safely and efficiently correct defective genes that cause inherited diseases.”

Now that last part about “genes that cause inherited diseases” should sound familiar. Because every step down the modern biotechnology slippery slope has been justified in similar terms: as a way to alleviate human suffering. Thus, anyone who objects or even expresses misgivings about proposed innovations is forced to defend himself against charges of indifference to human suffering.

The problem is, of course, that the slide down the slope never stops at alleviating suffering. At the very least, the definition of “suffering” is changed to include whole classes of people who were not even envisioned when the justification was first offered. The classic example of this is euthanasia which has spread from the terminally ill to the hopelessly ill to those who are merely tired of living.

Likewise, no one should believe for a moment that this technology, if perfected, will be limited to, as the National Academy of Sciences has recommended, the “elimination of serious diseases.” Only someone who hasn’t been paying attention would expect the NAS’s “red line” against “genetic enhancements” to be honored. . . . Population Control Group Tells Prince William and Kate to Stop Having Kids

A population-control group has written Prince William and Princess Kate a letter, urging them to stop having children. William, who is second in line to the British throne, and Kate currently have two children, Prince George, 4, and Princess Charlotte, 2. When visiting Poland in late July someone gave the family a gift for a child younger than Charlotte or George, which prompted Kate to say that she and Will should just keep having kids in order to get some use out of the gift.

This incredibly benign comment was apparently too much for one population control group, Having Kids, which sent the royal family a letter begging them to please stop having children in order to save the glaciers from melting and the animals from dying, among other things.

Apparently, any more than two kids is considered to be a “large family” and therefore is “unsustainable” for the planet. Having Kids is worried that if Princess Kate and Prince William have more than two children, they will inspire other people in the U.K. to have big families as well.

An excerpt from the letter states that “we must keep moving in the right direction” of having fewer and fewer children, in order to mitigate climate change. . . . Read More

Court Rules Pregnancy Center Must Obey Pro-Abortion Obamacare Mandate

The U.S. 3rd Circuit Court of Appeals ruled Friday that Real Alternatives, a secular non-profit organization in Pennsylvania that provides pro-life alternatives to abortion, must comply with the Obamacare contraception mandate in their healthcare coverage despite moral objections.

Judge Marjorie Rendell wrote in the majority opinion that Real Alternatives while “grounded in sincerely held moral values” is “in no way like a religious denomination … — not in structure, not in aim, not in purpose, and not in function.”

“Permitting Real Alternatives to qualify for the exemption would similarly run afoul of this country’s vast history of legislative protections that single out and safeguard religious freedom but not moral philosophy,” Rendell wrote.

“If mere disagreement, however vehemently felt, were sufficient to bring an equal protection claim,” she added, “virtually any law implicating religion would be rendered moot because the exemption would be too easy to invoke.”

“Finding all single-issue non-profit organizations to be similarly situated to houses of worship based on their adherence to a shared position on one issue would expand religious exemptions beyond what is constitutionally required,” she said.

However Judge Jordan, in his dissent, said that the group could be compared to Hobby Lobby “because the claimants in Hobby Lobby and [Real Alternatives plaintiffs] were both forced by the United States to take nearly identical action: purchase of and participation in a plan that covers a form of contraception that they believe is antithetical to the sanctity of life.” . . . . Pro-Abortion Study Makes the Absurdly False Claim . . .

. . . Pro-Life Laws are Bad for Women and Children

This week, the Center for Reproductive Rights (CRR) and IBIS Reproductive Health released a study on pro-life laws and public-health outcomes. It purports to show that the states most active in enacting pro-life policies fare poorly on a range of public-health metrics. Specifically, it claims the states that have enacted the most pieces of pro-life legislation score worse on separate metrics designed to measure both women’s and children’s overall health.

This is the latest in a long line of studies attempting to show that pro-life laws adversely affect public-health outcomes. It has received sympathetic coverage from a number of media outlets including Mother Jones and HuffPost.

In reality, the CRR-IBIS study suffers from two significant methodological problems. First, this study analyzes just one year of data. As a result, it provides no evidence of how changes in pro-life policy affect various metrics of public health over time.

Second, the study does not hold constant any confounding variables. For example, in recent years, the states most active in passing pro-life laws have been largely located in the South. Southern states tend to have high poverty rates, which are often correlated with poor public-health outcomes. It is therefore likely that those high rates of poverty — and not pro-life laws — are primarily responsible for these below-average public-health metrics. . . . Read ore

California Law Forces Pregnancy Centers to Promote Abortions

A new California law forces pregnancy centers to promote abortions and, last year, the federal appeals court that is considered the most liberal in the country upheld it. Now pregnancy centers are fighting back.

Today, Liberty Counsel is filing a petition to the U.S. Supreme Court on behalf of three California faith-based, crisis pregnancy centers that are forced to advertise an offer of “immediate free or low-cost …abortion” to their clients according to state law. This law forces Liberty Counsel’s clients to speak a message that is profoundly at odds with their religious beliefs and directly contradicts what they actually want to say.

This law, which was co-sponsored by the National Abortion Rights Action League(NARAL), demands unlicensed crisis pregnancy centers post a notice advertising abortions and abortifacients in 48 size font (which covers two 8.5”x11” pages) in each language required (up to 11 languages and 22 pages) at both the entrance to their clinic and a visible location within the waiting area. In addition, it also must be included on their websites and in every promotional material they publish with a font size and/or color that draws more attention to it than the other words on the page. The required notice reads:

California has public programs that provide immediate free or low-cost access to comprehensive family planning services (including all FDA-approved methods of contraception), prenatal care, and abortion for eligible women.

Furthermore, the law charges a cumulative fine of $1,000 for every repeated instance that the notice is not communicated to a client. This law sabotages freedom of speech by forcing organizations to encourage actions that are in direct opposition to their religious beliefs and counter the mission and purpose of their organizations.

“This law is like forcing the Sierra Club to advocate for oil spills or demanding St. Jude expose their patients to lead poisoning,” said Mat Staver, Founder and Chairman of Liberty Counsel. “However, this law is actually much more repulsive. While those situations might cause unintended harm, abortion is intended – even specifically designed – to kill. The organizations we represent believe that unborn children are human beings who are much more sensitive to pain. These children deserve life and the opportunity to pursue happiness. It is the deepest over reach of the local government to demand that someone participate in murder by promoting the opposite of what they believe to vulnerable mothers who are facing a life altering decision. This government overreach should shake every freedom-loving person to the core,” Staver said.

Surprisingly, the law provides an exemption for clinics that already sell more expensive abortion services. They are not required to advertise this free or low-cost option. . . . .Read More

Young Abortion Activists Hate Pro-Lifers: “These Dinosaurs Will Eventually Die Out”

Young abortion activists in Australia are demanding that taxpayers be forced to pay the bill for aborting their unborn babies.

The liberal website BuzzFeed recently profiled several of the young activists and their work to promote the killing of unborn babies across Australia. One even went so far as to hope that pro-lifers will “die out” so that women can abort their unborn babies for free and without restriction.

Australian state laws vary on abortion. New South Wales and Queensland prohibit abortions except when there is a danger to a woman’s health, according to ABC. Victoria, Tasmania and the Australian Capital Territory allow abortions up to 9 months, though there are some restrictions for late-term abortions.

But abortion activists want to see these restrictions gone and make every taxpayer in the country pay for women’s abortions.

Anna Groth, a young woman from New South Wales, told BuzzFeed, said she was “disgusted” when her state lawmakers voted against a bill to decriminalize abortion. . . .

Groth does not just want the killing of unborn babies to be legal; she also wants taxpayers to pay for the deadly procedure.

“I am fervently for abortion to be seen as it is, a medical termination of pregnancy…not an item to purchase in the private system,” she said. . . . Read More

Federal Court Forces Pregnancy Center to Obey Obamacare Mandate, Pay for Abortions

In a horrible defeat for pro-life organizations, a three-judge panel of a federal appeals court ruled that a secular pregnancy center must be forced to comply with the Obamacare mandate that forces organizations to pay for drugs that cause abortions.

Most pro-life voters are familiar with the Supreme Court decisions in the Hobby Lobby and Little Sisters of the Poor cases that held that a religious oriented company or organization does not have to comply with the Obamacare mandate and be forced to pay for abortion-causing drugs in their employee health care plans. However those decisions were limited in scope and did not apply to every kind of pro-life organization or company.

The pro-life group Real Alternatives, based in Pennsylvania, filed a lawsuit against the Obama administration concerning the mandate and its compelling portions that require religious groups to pay for drugs that may cause abortions. Real Alternatives, which provides abortion alternatives in Pennsylvania and elsewhere, field suit to protect itself and its employees form the mandate.

Considering another lawsuit related to the Obamacare mandate, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit held that pro-life organizations that are secular in nature are not entitled to the religious exemption from the mandate even though their consciences compel them to oppose abortion and being forced to pay for abortions.  . . . Oregon Gov. Kate Brown Expected to Sign Bill for Free Abortions for All, Including Illegal Aliens

Pro-abortion Gov. Kate Brown
Oregon abortion activists just may have pushed their radical agenda too far this summer.

A bill currently in front of pro-abortion Gov. Kate Brown’s desk would force health insurers and taxpayers to pay for free abortions for residents and illegal immigrants. The legislature passed the bill earlier this summer, and Brown, a former abortion lobbyist, is expected to sign it.

Pro-life advocates said the pro-abortion bill could backfire.

“Democrats have made clear that they are in favor of more late-term and sex-selective abortions,” David Kilada, political director at Oregon Right to Life told The Washington Times. “Not to mention undocumented immigrants can now get abortions for free. That’s not what Oregonians want, and I think it will be a big part of the campaign next year.”

Kilada said Oregon already has some of the most pro-abortion laws in the country and allows late-term abortions for any reason up to birth. His pro-life group pointed out that the new bill also forces taxpayers to fund abortions – something most taxpayers oppose.

“I think the statement of Gov. Brown signing this bill would be that abortion is a central part of her campaign. And we’ll make sure the voters know that,” Kilada continued. . . . Read More:

Abortionist Jane Hodgson: “Pregnancy is a Disease” and Abortion is the Cure

Abortionist Jane Hodgson
Come an anniversary, the publication of yet another pro-abortion rehash of the “history of abortion rights,” a partial eclipse of the sun, whatever it takes, large or small, we can be sure that journalists will find a reason to periodically celebrate pro-abortion “pioneers.”

Of course those laudatory profiles no longer include Dr. Bernard Nathanson, co-founder of the predecessor to NARAL Pro-Choice America, or Norma McCorvey, the “Roe” of Roe v. Wade. Both were converts to the pro-life side. Thus they have been airbrushed out of the glorious history of “abortion rights” just as politicians no longer in favor used to be expunged from official Soviet portraits.

. . . “How hospitals outsourced America’s abortion controversy”–to Mike Mullen’s story but its real objective was (yet again) to celebrate the wonderfulness of the late Minnesota abortionist Jane Hodgson.

She is a favorite for many reasons. The legend of Jane Hodgson is that this “mild mannered woman” was radicalized by the plight of pregnant women pre-Roe v. Wade, going from opposing abortion to become a staunch champion of reproductive rights.

Her fate as a pro-abortion heroine was sealed when she became (as the New York Times put it) “the first American doctor charged for an abortion performed in a hospital.” She knew she would be charged; Minnesota’s abortion law in 1970 was, like most state’s, very protective. . . . She received a minor punishment that was put on hold pending appeal. When Roe v. Wade was handed down, her conviction was overturned. She never served a day in jail and took up a “second career” as one of the most familiar faces of the pro-abortion movement.

For 30 years Hodgson was a lead plaintiff or expert witness in numerous court battles,” Mullens writes. “She sided against laws mandating the consent of parents for minors seeking abortions,” to name just one example.

If anything more were needed to ensure her place in the pro-abortion Pantheon, the New York Times’ Margalit Fox told us in Hodgson’s 2006 obituary that “When she was well into her 70’s, Dr. Hodgson continued to make the 150-mile weekly trip from St. Paul to Duluth, Minn., to perform abortions at a clinic she had helped establish there.” . . . Abortion Stunts Feminist Progress

Lauren Enriquez, Human Coalition: “Free abortion on demand and without apology.”

This is the rallying cry of today’s staunchest abortion advocates.

Self-identifying as feminists, these activists demand unfettered abortion rights, and they uphold abortion as a human right and social good. Without abortion, they argue, women would not possess equal opportunities for education, career advancement, or happiness. In short, women cannot progress or meet their full potential unless they can end the life of the child in their womb. For them, abortion on demand is the achievement par excellence of the feminist movement.

The rub is that history and empirical data tell a radically different story about women’s progress.

Abortion is not a modern phenomenon. In fact, laws related to preborn life go back thousands of years to the ancient Babylonians. In the early days of the women’s movement, long before Roe v. Wade, women seeking abortion turned to abortifacient drugs and procedures. Then as now, many women were driven to seek abortions by systemic problems such as poverty, lack of partner support, and sexual subjugation to men. Yet, history’s most well-known feminist activists did not rally for abortion rights.

Abortion hasn’t solved the problems women have faced throughout human history, and modern feminists are remiss to fantasize that unrestricted access to abortion could solve any problems today. The 44 years that have lapsed since Roe v. Wade have proven once and for all that unfettered abortion access does not contribute to women’s well-being. In fact, early feminists viewed abortion as a symptom of the broader problems women faced – not a solution to their struggles. This is a key difference between first-wave feminism and today’s abortion movement.

Susan B. Anthony, who dedicated her entire life to improving the lives of women, said she found her fulfillment in making changes that would allow pregnant women to thrive: “Sweeter even than to have had the joy of caring for children of my own has it been to me to help bring about a better state of things for mothers generally, so that their unborn little ones could not be willed away from them.” This desire to address women’s obstacles, rather than remove the child through abortion, was the unanimous hope of the feminist foremothers.

The findings of modern science and research suggest that our feminist foremothers were startlingly insightful. Data now provides evidence that abortion hurts women and kills magnificent human beings. Medical science illustrates the breathtaking humanity of the preborn child. And longitudinal studies have proven that abortion has devastating effects on women, ranging from an exponentially greater likelihood of tragedies such as substance abuse and suicide, to jarring medical risks like preterm birth in subsequent pregnancies. Today’s data, like yesterday’s feminist foremothers, suggest that women would be better served by having their problems addressed, not by violently and permanently removing their child from the equation.

When it comes to defending preborn lives and standing up for the rights of women, pro-life advocates have every advantage, including history, data, and the original feminists America knows and loves.

Planned Parenthood Delivers Superhero Capes to Senators Who Voted to Save its Funding

Abortion activists delivered "I Stand With Planned Parenthood" capes to the "superheroes" who voted against defunding them.

Last week, Sen. John McCain, R-Arizona, cast the vote that doomed a bill axing Obamacare and defunding Planned Parenthood, America's largest abortion chain. It receives around half a billion dollars from the government each year.

In an after-midnight vote, McCain joined two Republicans and 48 Democrats in opposing the "skinny repeal" of Obamacare.

"No real superhero would defend an organization that kills late-term babies in partial-birth abortions and sells their body parts afterwards like widgets off an assembly line," David Daleiden of the Center for Medical Progress told LifeSiteNews. "The real superheroes are the public officials who will finally stop forcing taxpayers to sponsor Planned Parenthood's barbaric abortion empire."

Planned Parenthood commits more than 300,000 abortions annually. Its abortion services have risen in recent years as non-violent services have declined.

Pro-life advocates want Planned Parenthood's government money to be redirected to federally qualified community health centers that don't commit abortions. . . . Read More

Cecile Richards: You Can’t be a Democrat if You Don’t Support Abortion . . .

. . . “It’s Non-Negotiable”

The head of the nation’s biggest abortion company is not very happy that Democrats are considering supporting candidates who are pro-life. Planned Parenthood president Cecile Richards essentially says that you can’t be a Democrat if you don’t support abortion and that the Democratic Party should not support any candidate who opposes abortion.

Richards lashed out . . .

“Women’s health & rights are non-negotiable – incl. access to safe, legal abortion. We’ll hold any politician who says otherwise accountable,” she wrote. “Trading away women’s health and rights will just alienate one of the most powerful political forces in this country. Access to safe, legal abortion is central to women’s economic empowerment and bodily autonomy.” . . .

But polling data from earlier this year shows that 23% of Democrats consider themselves pro-life on abortion. That makes it so the abortion advocates who run the party are essentially driving away 1/4 of the party supporters and making them more likely to support pro-life Republican candidates.

Democrats for Life estimates more than 23 million Democrats in the U.S. are pro-life. Last year, Pew Research found that 28 percent of Democrats say abortion should be illegal in most or all cases. Marist/KofC polling also found that 23 percent of Democrats consider themselves pro-life. . . . Read More

Rosie O’Donnell: Women Should Form Our Own Party if Democrats Back Pro-Lifers

It seems that nothing but complete and utter support for the killing of unborn babies in abortions is acceptable to Rosie O’Donnell.

The liberal actress lashed out against the Democratic Party on Tuesday after leaders said they would not deny support to candidates who are pro-life on abortion, according to The Hill.

O’Donnell suggested that pro-abortion women form their own party if the Democrats step back from their radical support of abortion.
. . .Suffering heavy losses last November, Democratic Party leaders have been searching for ways to win back voters, and its pro-abortion stance has been one focus. Last year, the party adopted a radical new platform calling for full support of abortion on demand and taxpayer funding of abortion.

But the debate really flared up in the spring after abortion activists with NARAL criticized DNC Chair Tom Perez, Sen. Bernie Sanders and others for supporting Heath Mello, a Nebraska Democratic mayoral candidate who has a pro-life voting record.

Amid pressure from abortion activists, Perez described abortion as a “fundamental value” and said every Democrat should support it.

“Every Democrat, like every American, should support a woman’s right to make her own choices about her body and her health. That is not negotiable,” Perez said in a statement.

Many said Perez was imposing a litmus test on abortion for future Democratic candidates, but other Democratic leaders denied that support of abortion was key to being a member of the party.

The party also has experienced push back from some of its own members. State and national party leaders, politicians, Democrats for Life and others urged Perez to welcome candidates who support unborn babies’ right to life. In May, for example, Arkansas Democratic leaders made it clear that they will welcome pro-life candidates in their state.

Democrats for Life leaders also met with Perez to discuss how the party’s out-of-touch stance on abortion is alienating voters. The pro-life group estimates more than 23 million Democrats in the U.S. are pro-life.

Last year, Pew Research found that 28 percent of Democrats say abortion should be illegal in most or all cases. Marist/KofC polling also found that 23 percent of Democrats consider themselves pro-life and 40 percent say abortion is morally wrong. . . . Read More

UN Radicals Set to Create Global Right to Abortion... 60 Days to Save Millions of Unborn Children...

Austin Ruse, C-Fam: In 60 days, the UN Human Rights Committee may vote to exclude the unborn child from the "right to life" clause in international law.

That's right. The UN may withhold all protection from the unborn child. This will lead to unprecedented global attacks on the defenseless unborn.

Imagine, the defenseless unborn child being cut apart in the womb and then vacuumed out and tossed on the garbage heap. This could become an international right.

But we can stop this if we act now.

In the coming days, C-Fam and the Friday Fax will announce a global campaign to stop this heinous move by UN radicals. We are working in collaboration with other major pro-life groups to defend the unborn child and you are needed now.

Our plans are not yet finalized but they will be global and they will be powerful.

In the meantime, can you help us make this a reality? Will you help us defend the unborn child from these UN radicals?

(Note I use the phrase "UN radicals." I do this because there are many UN pro-lifers who do not want this to happen and it is them we are helping to stop this!).

C-Fam and our partners will announce this campaign within the next two weeks. But we have only 60 days to stop this abomination.  . . . Read More & Pray & Give.

Abortion Activists Livid At Democrats

by Bill Donohue: Rep. Ben Ray Luján, chairman of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, told The Hill on July 31 that when it comes to abortion, “There is not a litmus test for Democratic candidates.” He made it clear that when it comes to funding, candidates who are not champions of abortion rights could still qualify.

The idea that a Democrat can be pro-life, even marginally, was enough to set off a firestorm of condemnation by abortion extremists. Spokesmen for Planned Parenthood, the All* Above Action Fund, the Women’s Health and Rights Project at the Center for American Progress, and EMILY’s List, hammered Luján. No one went more ballistic than Ilyse Hogue, president of NARAL Pro-Choice America.

Hogue noted with anger that Luján’s position was previously voiced during the presidential campaign by Sen. Bernie Sanders, and more recently by Rep. Nancy Pelosi. She will have none of it. She stood by her gal, Hillary Clinton, saying she “ran the most progressive campaign on abortion rights ever.” She certainly did.

Did Hillary lose because of abortion? It played a role: Who can forget her unbelievably cold response to a question about partial-birth abortion during one of the debates? Her lack of empathy for the child—not a trace was detectable—left most Americans uncomfortable, if not revolted.

Reading the accounts of Hogue, and the other fans of abortion, makes one wonder if they sincerely believe that women are a monolithic group, all committed to abortion rights. “Democrats can’t fight Trump without women,” Hogue writes. Reality check: Trump lost the women’s vote and won the election.

Obama did better with women than Hillary did: he won the women’s vote 55% to 44%; she won by a margin of 54% to 42%. Among white women, 58% broke for Trump; Hillary won only 39% of their vote.

Hogue lives in such a bubble that she cites the Women’s March on Washington, held after the election, as proof that women are anti-Trump. She did not mention that pro-life women’s organizations were barred from marching in this “inclusive” event.

The pro-abortion activists need not worry too much. The fat cats who work at Goldman Sachs, the Ford Foundation, the Rockefeller Foundation, the Tides Foundation, the Arca Foundation, and the various entities run by Warren Buffett and George Soros, will always grease whoever pledges to go to the mat for abortion rights.

There is one problem, however: the American public does not support abortion-on-demand, yet the Democratic Party supports it for any reason and at any time of gestation. The leadership will have to decide who matters most: donors or voters.

If they lighten up a little, they will incur the wrath of the death industry. Just ask Rep. Luján. If they don’t lighten up, they may wind up unemployed. Just ask Hillary.
