Planned Parenthood Chapter Quits, Forced by National to Do Abortions A Texas-based Planned Parenthood affiliate has resigned as a member of the national organization because Planned Parenthood Federation of America wanted it to do abortions. Local officials say PPFA is instituting a mandate that all of its affiliates across the nation offer facilities where abortions are done and the head of Planned Parenthood of South Texas says her group doesn’t want to add abortions.

CEO Amanda Stukenberg told the Corpus Christi Caller newspaper that PPST doesn’t need to do abortions because independent abortion business already exist in the area, so her group has focused solely on promoting contraception and birth control. “We have never provided abortions,” she said. “Our position is that if that is a need in your community, fine. There are far greater needs in our area than abortion. We feel that women here have options. We don’t need to duplicate services.”

Stutenberg told the newspaper that national Planned Parenthood officials told her they want to standardize their operations nationwide and that includes a requirement to for all affiliates to do abortions.

Instead, Stukenberg said the Planned Parenthood chapter will change its name to Family Planning of the Coastal Bend and she and her board of directors feel confident they can financially survive leaving the Planned Parenthood abortion business. The requirement to do abortions is not a surprise given the resignation of another Texas Planned Parenthood official last year. Abby Johnson quit her job as the director of the Planned Parenthood in Bryan/College Station after participating in an abortion prompted her to change her mind and become pro-life. She has said her Planned Parenthood facility also faced pressure to do abortions — including having a quota of abortions she was required to meet. “There are definitely client goals,” she said last November. “We’d have a goal every month for abortion clients and for family planning clients.”

She said her facility did abortions every other Saturday but began increasing the number of abortions in order to increase revenues. One method involved increasing the number of abortions done with the dangerous mifepristone abortion drug. “One of the ways they were able to up the number of patients that they saw was they started doing the RU-486 chemical abortions all throughout the week,” she said.

Johnson told WorldNetDaily that abortions using the drug, which has killed 13 women worldwide and injured at least 1,100 in the United States alone according to the FDA, would bring in between $505 and $695 depending on the age of the baby at the time of the abortion.

She said the move to increase abortions came as Planned Parenthood experienced financial difficulties due to the troubled economy.

“Abortion is the most lucrative part of Planned Parenthood’s operations,” she said. “Even though they’re two separate corporations, all of the money goes into one pot. With the family planning corporation really suffering, they depend on the abortion corporation to balance their budget, help get them out of the hole and help make income for the company.”

“They really wanted to increase the number of abortions so that they could increase their income,” she told the news service.
Pressure to increase abortions is also borne out in the recent annual reports Planned Parenthood released publicly — which show Planned Parenthood increasing the number of abortions it does annually and increasing its share of the abortion market to more than 25 percent.

The nation’s largest abortion business released a factsheet in September showing the number of abortions it performed in 2008 increased to 324,008, a 6.1 percent increase over the 305,310 abortions it did in 2007. In 1997, Planned Parenthood did about 160,000 abortions. The report shows Planned Parenthood’s 95 affiliates operated 865 centers — all of which either do abortions, give out the dangerous abortion drug RU 486 (Mifepristone) or make abortion referrals. The abortion business says it has 33,000 staff and volunteers nationwide.

The September companion report Planned Parenthood issued showed, despite claims to the contrary, Planned Parenthood’s number one agenda is abortion. The document boasts that the number of adoption referrals provided by Planned Parenthood increased by over 100 percent from 2,410 referrals in 2006 to 4,912 referrals in 2007. However, the total number of adoption referrals still amounts to a number equal to only one-third of the increase in the number of abortions done by Planned Parenthood affiliates. Planned Parenthood also says it helped just under 11,000 women in 2007 with prenatal care and pregnancy help services.

Yet, prenatal care and adoption referrals resulted for only 5 percent of the total services provided to women in 2007 while abortions accounted for 95 percent of the services that year, according to Planned Parenthood’s own figures.

Report Shows Catholic Healthcare West Promotes Abortions

by Steven Ertelt, San Francisco-based Catholic Healthcare West is already facing a rebuke from a Catholic bishop over an abortion one of its hospitals did that he says violated Catholic teachings. Now, a national pro-life organization has released the results of a new research study showing CHW has a longer history of promoting abortions.

Catholic Healthcare West is a system of 41 hospitals and medical centers located in California, Arizona and Nevada that is the eighth largest hospital system in the nation and the largest not-for-profit provider in California.

CHW member St. Joseph’s Hospital of Phoenix, Arizona, became the subject of controversy earlier this year when the head of its ethics committee, Sr. Margaret McBride, approved the abortion of an 11-week unborn baby whose mother suffered from pulmonary hypertension.

Bishop Thomas Olmsted investigated the case and, after interviewing Sr. McBride, informed her that she had excommunicated herself by approving the abortion. Since then, CHW has defended McBride’s decision, and after months of debate, Bishop Olmsted issued a letter to CHW declaring his intent to revoke his endorsement of St. Joseph’s Hospital as a Catholic hospital unless CHW met three specific conditions.

American Life League conducted its own investigation into CHW’s activities and discovered CHW’s abortion connection is not limited to the Arizona case.  “CHW has granted money to at least six organizations that promote abortion” or birth control, ALL indicates in a report received.  “CHW helped create the Healthy San Francisco health plan, which covers elective abortion,” it added. “At least one CHW member hospital promotes the nation’s largest abortion chain, Planned Parenthood, on its web site, and another lists the provision of contraceptives as a service.”

The report also indicates CHW’s CEO made donations to the Obama campaign and strongly endorsed the ObamaCare bill the nation’s Catholic bishops opposed because it didn’t properly stop abortion funding and rationing.

CHW members Saint Francis Memorial Hospital, Sequoia Hospital and St. Mary’s Medical Center donated $267,704 to 17 organizations in 2010, the report notes, including the San Francisco Health Plan.  “SFHP covers abortions. You do not need to see your PCP first or get permission for an abortion. You may obtain outpatient abortion services from an SFHP network provider or from a non-network provider, the plan notes.

Another CHW member, Northridge Hospital Medical Center “refers to a number of pro-abortion and pro-birth control resources for teens, including Planned Parenthood” through its PATH-AT program.  Another 12 members do sterilizations and many others promote birth control, the ALL report shows.

On the ObamaCare bill, the report noted how a December 2009 Market Wire article titled Catholic Healthcare West Applauds Passage of Senate Health Reform Bill gave full, unqualified approval to the health care reform bill after the USCCB called the bill deficient, and American Life League reported on the provisions for abortion, birth control and euthanasia that it contained.

Concerning donations to Obama, Lloyd Dean, Catholic Healthcare West’s president and CEO, according to Federal Election Commission records, made $10,000 in contributions to the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee over a ten-day period earlier that summer and donated an additional $250 to the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.
An early supporter of Obama’s presidential campaign, Dean gave $2,300 to Obama for America in September 2007.

Mike Pence: Cut All Taxpayer Funding for Planned Parenthood Rep. Mike Pence, the leading member behind legislation in Congress that would de-fund Planned Parenthood, is not happy about the new annual report the abortion business released. The annual report shows the total government grants and contracts received by PPFA affiliates from government sources including state, local and federal governments, increased from $350 million in 2009 to $363 million in the 2009-2010 fiscal year.

That comes after a September report revealing the number of abortions Planned Parenthood performed in 2008 increased to 324,008, a 6.1 percent increase over the 305,310 abortions it did in 2007.

Pence, an Indiana congressman with potential presidential ambitions, sent a statement to Friday afternoon responding to the new taxpayer funding figures: It is morally wrong to end an unborn human life by abortion.  It is also morally wrong to take the taxpayer dollars of millions of pro-life Americans and use those funds to promote abortion.
“Planned Parenthood’s own report shows that the largest abortion provider in America is being bankrolled by American taxpayers.  With a nearly 10 percent unemployment rate, there is simply no reason during these tough economic times why taxpayers’ hard-earned money should fund the activities of abortion providers and equip them with the resources they need to end innocent human life.

“The time has come to deny any and all federal funding to Planned Parenthood by passing the Title X Abortion Provider Prohibition Act, which I intend to introduce again in the next Congress.”
Congressman Pence introduced The Title X Abortion Provider Prohibition Act (H.R. 614), a bill prohibiting the distribution of Title X family planning money to entities that use abortion as a method of family planning. The bi-partisan bill has 103 co-sponsors.

The Title X Family Planning program was enacted in 1970 as Title X of the Public Health Service Act. Title X is the only federal grant program that provides individuals with comprehensive family planning and related preventive health services.
Pence added:
"Originally, family planning services were not allowed to include abortions and currently federal dollars are not used directly for abortions. However, over the years, the subsidy of abortion providers under the umbrella of family planning has been gradually accepted.

"Current law prohibits the use of Title X family planning funds “in programs where abortion is a method of family planning;” and current regulations require some form of separation between federally-funded family planning services and abortions. However, the current regulations do not contain a descriptive standard of what constitutes “separation.” They only require the level of separation to be more than “mere bookkeeping.”
When Title X money goes to clinics that provide both abortions and family planning services, even though the money cannot directly fund abortions, it is being used to offset operational costs with federal funds, freeing up money to promote and provide abortions.

Obama Admin Working to Rescind Conscience Rights on Abortion

by Steven Ertelt, The Obama administration is still working to overturn conscience rights for medical professionals on abortion that were put in place at the tail end of the Bush administration.

In 2008, the Bush administration issued a rule that prohibited recipients of federal money from discriminating against doctors, nurses and health care aides who refuse to take part in medical procedures to which they have religious or moral objections, such as abortion.

The rule implemented existing conscience protection laws that ensure medical professionals cannot be denied employment because they do not want to assist in abortions.

New information about the state of those protections and efforts to repeal them comes from legal papers the administration filed in a case the state of Connecticut launched against the conscience protections. In a document filed in federal court in November, Obama administration attorneys admitted that the administration wants to finalize a rescission of the conscience rules but has been delayed because of other business — likely due to the HHS working on implementing the provisions of the ObamaCare law.

HHS “hope[d] to have an internal draft final rule prepared in the near future, but that the schedule is necessarily tentative given the possibility of unforeseen delays and the need to devote time and resources to other agency priorities,” the November legal paper said.

Responding to the paper, the federal court asked for more information about the delay.
The Obama administration filed another legal paper December 1 stating “HHS still cannot be certain of a date for completing the rulemaking” but added “HHS expects to have a final rule published in the Federal Register within sixty to ninety days – i.e., as early as January 31, 2011, and no later than March 1, 2011.”

Obama officials asked the court to not mandate a time by which the rescission is made and said they hope to complete the rescission of the conscience rights prior to the court issuing a decision related to the Bush rules in the Connecticut challenge.
The Alliance Defense Fund, a pro-life legal group, points out that the papers make it clear the Obama administration intends to repeal the conscience protections on abortion, citing language saying the administration would notify the court “when the final rule regarding the proposed rescission is published.”

ADF Legal Counsel Matt Bowman said the Obama administration “wants to dismantle” the conscience protections “leaving little defense for the regulation and for health care workers.”

“Medical professionals should not be punished for holding to their beliefs, and they should not be forced to perform abortions against their conscience,” he told “Those pursuing this lawsuit, including organizations such as Planned Parenthood, would like nothing more than to deny health care workers the only means that exists to defend their federally protected right to opt out of abortions.”

ADF has been defending the rights of a nurse who was forced to assist in an abortion and is she is now seeking to join the lawsuit to oppose Connecticut’s efforts to overturn the Bush rules.

As reported in November, Cathy Cenzon-DeCarlo lost a federal court ruling saying she doesn’t have the right to sue the hospital that forced her to participate in an abortion.

Now, the Alliance Defense Fund has filed a motion to intervene in State of Connecticut v. United States of America.

ADF is currently involved in a lawsuit in New York state court to defend Cenzon-DeCarlo’s conscience rights under state law, but the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 2nd Circuit upheld the dismissal of her federal lawsuit, leaving only an ongoing investigation by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services as the means to defend her rights protected under federal law.

That investigation relies upon the conscience regulations implemented by former President George W. Bush that direct the department to conduct such investigations. If Connecticut is successful or the Obama administration overturns the rules, “this case may cause Mrs. DeCarlo to again be illegally compelled to assist in abortions by her federally funded employer due to the removal of all her protective measures,” ADF legal papers say.

“Moreover, that Regulation has helped empower Defendant HHS’ Office of Civil Rights to actually and presently be investigating that violation on her behalf, explicitly telling Mrs. DeCarlo that the investigation is being pursued at least in part under the Implementing Regulation. Yet in this case, Plaintiffs seek to invalidate that Regulation and Defendants have worked with Plaintiffs to stay the case based on their intent to rescind the Regulation,” the papers add.

ADF attorneys, working together with the Christian Legal Society’s Center for Law and Religious Freedom, are simultaneously attempting to intervene in the Connecticut case on behalf of several pro-life medical associations.

The judge cleared the motions from his calendar for now but determined that they can be considered once the case, which is currently on hold, moves forward.

Although federal law has long forbidden discrimination against health care professionals who refuse to perform abortions or provide referrals for them, the regulation required institutions that get federal funding to certify their compliance with laws protecting conscience rights. It also promoted education within the medical community regarding their rights and provided an avenue of recourse in the event of discrimination through the Office of Civil Rights within HHS.

At the end of February, the Obama administration announced it began “reviewing” the regulations implementing conscience laws, the first step toward rescinding the rule altogether. In 2009, Obama told students at Notre Dame he wanted to find common ground on abortion and used the conscience clause as an example. but he came under criticism from pro-life lawmakers who said he was working to remove the protections.

Michele Bachmann: Jesus Had a Right to Life from the Moment of Conception

The Annunciation

By Terence P. Jeffrey, CNS News: In response to a question from, Rep. Michele Bachmann (R.-Minn.) said this week that Jesus Christ had a right to life from the moment of conception and that all human beings deserve legal protection from the moment of conception.

Earlier this year, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D.-Calif.) declined to answer [a] question of whether Jesus had a right to life from the moment of conception. Pelosi voted against the partial-birth abortion ban when it became law in 2003.

In May, Pelosi told a Catholic Community Conference in Washington, D.C., that her favorite word was the “Word” as in the “Word was made flesh”—a reference to Jesus Christ in the Gospel passage of John 1:14 that says, “And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we saw His glory, the glory as it were of the only begotten of the Father) full of grace and truth.” Pelosi told the conference she had a duty to pursue public policies in keeping with the values of the Word made flesh. “And that Word," Pelosi said, "is, we have to give voice to what that means in terms of public policy that would be in keeping with the values of the Word.”

At a subsequent press conference, correspondent Jane McGrath asked Pelosi whether she believed the Word was made flesh at the Annunciation, when Jesus was conceived, or at the Nativity, when He was born, and when did Jesus get the right to life. Pelosi did not answer the question. Instead, she said: “Whenever it was, we bow our heads when we talk about it in church, and that’s where I’d like to talk about that.” After that press conference, sent a follow-up question to the speaker’s press secretary by email: “We’d like to clarify the speaker’s position on this: Did Jesus have the right to life from the moment of conception?” “The speaker answered the question. Thanks,” Pelosi’s press secretary responded.

When put the question to Bachmann, she answered directly:
Q: “And did Jesus have a right to life from the moment of conception?”
A: “Yes,” said Bachmann.
Q: “Do all human beings have a right to life?”
A: “Yes, they do,” said Bachmann.
Q: “Should there be legal protection for every human being from the moment of conception?”
A: “Yes, there should be,” said Bachmann.

EDITORIAL: Abortion is no minor matter

Thank you Washington Times for running this Editorial - As editing this article would not make sense and since it addresses actions by Americans United for Life (AUL), the article is reprinted in full with linkback and credit under the Fair Use Doctrine:
Parental notice is a right in Illinois and everywhere else
The Washington Times: It's monstrous to suggest abortions should be easier for minors to procure than other surgical procedures. Enter the American Civil Liberties Union. After losing in federal court, the ACLU has found new ways to delay a 1995 Illinois law requiring parental (or legal guardian) notification before subjecting minors to abortion. Americans United for Life has come to the rescue with a new "friend of the court" brief.

American law doesn't ordinarily confer full autonomy on minors. As the "Encyclopedia of Everyday Law" explains, "In general, for most medical procedures, the parent or legal guardian of the minor still has to grant consent in order for the procedure to be performed. While the state can challenge a parent's decision to refuse medically necessary treatment and can in some cases win the authority to make medical decisions on behalf of the child, the minor can not make his or her own medical decisions."

That's plan old-fashioned common sense. As the U.S. Supreme Court explained in Roper v. Simmons (2005), "Minors possess a lack of maturity and an underdeveloped sense of responsibility," which result in "impetuous and ill-considered actions and decisions."

Nonetheless, even after the Illinois law was upheld by the 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, the ACLU - on behalf of the Hope Clinic for Women in Granite City, Ill. - filed suit in state court to block the law. The ACLU said the law offends the state constitution if not the U.S. Constitution, and, "There is no justification" for the law. Absurdly, the ACLU asserts, "Minors seeking abortion services independently of their parents are sufficiently mature to provide informed consent."

Americans United for Life (AUL), filing on behalf of eight Illinois legislators, made mincemeat of this argument. Citing study after study, the lawmakers showed abortions cause even more serious long-term health problems for minors than adults. Beyond the obvious mental or emotional health ramifications, it's proven that minors are at significantly greater risk than adults of cervical lacerations during abortions, of post-abortion infections such as pelvic inflammatory disease and endometritis, and of physical problems with later pregnancies.

AUL's brief even cited studies from the nation's leading abortion provider, Planned Parenthood: "The Guttmacher Institute - Planned Parenthood's research wing - has acknowledged that because minors are less likely than adults to take prescribed antibiotics or follow other regimens of treatment, they are at greater risk for subsequent miscarriage, infertility, hysterectomy and other serious complications."

In 2009, the 7th Circuit made clear there is zero doubt "the state has an important interest in the welfare of its children that justifies regulation of the abortion of minors that would not be upheld if applied to adult women." The decision upholding the law was written by Judge Richard D. Cudahy, who was appointed by liberal President Carter.

Thirty-one states have parental-notice laws, which reflects the obvious fact that minors deserve adult care, attention and advice in difficult situations. The ACLU should drop the case and allow Illinois minors the same humane protection they get across the country.

Pro-Life Hippo Rescues Helpless Young

Sometimes a different story from nature gives us a pro-life compassionate message.

Metro (UK): The helpful hippo that rescues helpless animals from Mara river
Visitors to a safari camp close to where the film Out Of Africa was shot stood in awe as they witnessed the annual wildebeest migration.
Here we go again: The hippo nudges the tiny zebra through the river to the safety of the rocky shore
in Kenya (Michael Yule/Sanctuary Olonana)
But as they watched thousands of animals cross the raging Mara river they were astonished to see a hippo come to the rescue of two drowning stragglers.

The strong current separated a wildebeest, or gnu, from her calf and she watched helplessly as it was swept away.
Good Samaritan: The hippo gets closer as he sees the wildebeest struggling
To everyone’s amazement the hippo came to the gnu’s rescue and pushed it gently to the river bank,’ said Abdul Karim, the head guide at Sanctuary Olonana in the Masai Mara, Kenya.
The infant panted for a moment before getting up and running to its watching mother.

But the female hippo’s work did not finish there. Within ten minutes she spotted a little zebra crossing the same stretch of water and pushed it across, its tiny head struggling to keep above the torrent.
I’ve got gnu, babe: The young animal is guided to the bank by the hippopotamus
‘It was an unforgettable incident,’ said Mr Karim.
‘Maternal love can be so strong it can even surpass species boundaries,’ he added.
Huge concentrations of game move between Kenya and Tanzania’s Serengeti National Park every year in the constant search for fresh grazing.

Planned Parenthood Got $349.6 Million in Tax Dollars, Performed 324,008 Abortions, Paid Its President $385,163

Planned Parenthood
President Cecile Richards
By Penny Starr, Planned Parenthood received $349.6 million in tax dollars in the fiscal year ending on June 30, 2008, and it paid its president, Cecile Richards, $385,163, plus another $11,876 in benefits and deferred compensation.

According to a “fact sheet” published by the organization, Planned Parenthood Affiliate Health Centers performed 324,008 abortions in 2008.

Planned Parenthood’s fiscal year that ended on June 30, 2008 is the latest year for which the organization has publicly released an annual report and published the annual sum of grants and contracts it received from the government.

The $385,163 in pay Planned Parenthood President Richards received in the organization’s fiscal year ending June 30, 2008 was recorded in the group’s publicly available Internal Revenue Service Form 990 filed for that year. Richards also received $346,285 in total compensation from Planned Parenthood and $38,476 in total compensation from related groups in the organization’s fiscal year that ended on June 30, 2009, according to the organization’s Form 990 for that year. Planned Parenthood did not respond to repeated inquiries from about Cecile Richards’ compensation.

In January 2009, Rep. Mike Pence (R-Ind.) introduced legislation to defund Planned Parenthood and other abortion providers that receive taxpayer funding. His bill, H.R. 614, would amend the Public Health Service Act to prohibit “providing any federal family planning assistance to an entity unless the entity certifies that, during the period of such assistance, the entity will not perform, and will not provide any funds to any other entity that performs an abortion.” “Congressman Pence will continue to fight for the unborn and intends to reintroduce his legislation to defund Planned Parenthood this coming Congress,” Mary Vought, press secretary for the House Republican Congress, told

The bill was referred to the House Committee on Energy and Commerce on Jan. 21, 2009 where it has since languished.

What's Next for the Pro Life Movement

Marjorie Dannenfelser, President of the Susan B. Anthony List: I’d be preaching to the choir if I told readers that victories at the ballot box don’t mean a thing until they produce legislative victories.

So, with major electoral gains for the pro-life movement at the ballot box this November, what’s next?

It’s time to end all federal funding of abortion. It’s a no-brainer. The majority of Americans consider themselves to be pro-life. And an even larger majority believes that tax dollars shouldn’t be used to fund abortion.

Two bills would get the job done:
• The “No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act” - a bipartisan bill sponsored by Reps. Chris Smith (R-NJ) and Dan Lipinski (D-IL), would create a government-wide statutory ban on abortion funding including those funding provisions contained in Obamacare.

• The “Title X Abortion Provider Prohibition Act” - sponsored by Rep. Mike Pence (R-IN), would ensure that abortion providers, including organizations like Planned Parenthood, do not receive federal dollars under the Title X federal family planning assistance program.

The pro-life movement really flexed its muscles in the 2010 election. Many representatives learned the consequences of their vote for a health care bill that included taxpayer funding of abortion when they were thrown out of office by the constituents they betrayed. Those Members have been replaced by authentic pro-life voices that are supported by a strongly pro-life GOP leadership.

With its promise to defund abortion in its Pledge to America, that leadership team has shown it understands the urgency of addressing the tragedy of nearly 4,000 abortions a day. Now it’s time for the pro-life Republican majority in the House to make good on that Pledge. It should start by ending all taxpayer funding of abortion.

We showed our strength in key Congressional races across the country; now it’s time to do so on Capitol Hill. You can help by taking two minutes to sign the SBA List’s Stop Abortion Funding petition today. It’s a call on the 112th Congress to pass the lifesaving legislation mentioned above to prevent our hard-earned tax dollars from paying for abortion.

Embryonic Stem Cell Research: Legal or Not?

ARRA News Service - RNC for Life Report: The battle over research on embryonic stem cells, which destroys human embryos, has been an up-anddown proposition, frequently in the news in recent weeks. First came a good court ruling, then a temporary reversal of that ruling, and now the limbo of waiting for a definitive ruling on the appeal.

On September 28, 2010 the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit reversed the preliminary injunction issued by Chief Judge Royce Lamberth of the U.S. District Court in Washington, D.C. on August 23. Judge Lamberth’s ruling had halted federal funding for embryo-destructive research. The reversal decision allows federal funding of embryo destructive research to continue until the case is decided.

Two scientists working on alternatives to controversial embryonic stem cell research filed the original suit, and Judge Lamberth’s ruling determined that the Obama administration’s funding violated the Dickey-Wicker law which bars federal taxpayer dollars being spent for research using human embryonic stem cells. The National Institutes of Health, however, maintained that the Dickey-Wicker measure only applied to creating new embryos for research purposes, but that research using existing embryos was not prohibited.

The Obama administration appealed Judge Lamberth’s ruling and on September 9, a three-judge panel of the D.C. Circuit Court temporarily lifted the injunction, pending further consideration. The September 28 decision means that experimentation on embryos can continue as the original lawsuit works its way through the courts.

In the meantime, your tax dollars are paying for the destruction of pre-born human embryos, and a recent Rasmussen poll showed that only about one-third of those polled approve of using tax money to fund this research. The case is expected ultimately to end up at the United States Supreme Court, and given the recent addition of ultra-liberal Justice Elena Kagan, pro-lifers have reason to be concerned about the eventual decision.

Pro-Life Conservative Women Changing the Face of Politics

by Catherine Snow, CitizenLink: The 25-year span of political dominance by pro-abortion women and political recruiter EMILY’s List may soon come to a close, as a record number of pro-life women vie for office. Whether it was the liberals’ attempt to destroy former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin during the 2008 election or the overreaching, abortion-driven agenda being forced on Americans by President Obama and the Democrat majority.

From U.S. House and Senate races to gubernatorial bids to state and local contests, two women in the Republican House leadership believe that 2010 will be a transformative year for conservative women in politics.

"GOOD REASONS TO VOTE" During an interview with National Review Online, U.S. Reps. Marsha Blackburn of Tennessee and Cathy McMorris Rodgers of Washington state said:
"Women voters are fired up for this year’s election and will most definitely not be staying home on Nov. 2, and there are at least 146 good reasons for this.

"A record number of Republican women have sought federal office this year – 129 GOP women in House races and 17 in Senate races. In 1994, another record-breaking year, 91 Republican women ran for the House and 13 for the Senate. How can EMILY’s List say that the party is running women out when more and more women are running?

This is the year of the strong conservative woman, but because those women are overwhelmingly pro-life, EMILY's List clearly doesn't see them as good enough.
Rogers added that conservative women candidates are now a better reflection of the majority of American women:
"The type of women we are running – political outsiders who are moms, small-business women, women who up until recently never thought of running for office but were inspired to run because of the dangerous course (on which) President Obama and Speaker Pelosi are taking America — are threatening to the liberal special-interest groups who believe that to be a woman you must be a liberal and that conservative women candidates…must not only be defeated, but also branded as somehow anti-woman. This is absurd."
EMILY'S LIST-LESS ATTACKS - Liberal media pundits, along with pro-abortion politicians and activist groups, have denounced the veracity of what conservatives have coined as the "Year of the Conservative (Pro-Life) Woman."

Marjorie Dannenfelser, president and chief executive officer of the Susan B. Anthony List (SBA List) – the pro-life movement's answer to EMILY’s List – said the number of pro-life women in this election cycle is turning into a referendum on abortion politics.

"EMILY's List is running scared –and it shows," Dannenfelser said."Clearly, in this 'Year of the Pro-Life Woman,' which Sarah Palin helped make possible, women have found their political voices. Pro-life "Mama Grizzlies' represent the majority of women across the country." . . . [Full Article]

Go See "I Want Your Money" in Theaters On October 15

Bill Smith, Editor, ARRA News Service: A Movie You CAN'T Afford to Miss. This Friday October 15, I WANT YOUR MONEY Рthe highly anticipated, hilarious Obama expos̩ that everyone is talking about - will open in movie theaters nationwide.

If you’re tired of Obama’s big-government-tax-and-spend policies, YOU WILL LOVE THIS MOVIE! I WANT YOUR MONEY is a controversial new film about the competing economic visions championed by Presidents Reagan and Obama – a duel of speeches, wit, animation and narrative that leaves audiences laughing, cheering, yelling . . . and engages them in the national conversation about the mounting national debt, and why it matters. After all, IT’S YOUR MONEY THEY ARE SPENDING.

I screened this movie and then participated in two advanced showings of the film to two very different audiences. One in Washington, D.C and one in the Arkansas Ozark Mountains. The movie resonated with both audiences and it will resonate with a majority of people except for liberal elites. Although a documentary, the movie is interspersed with animated cartoons which allows the viewer time to absorb the material and to have a laugh while points are illustrated. Without these cartoons the movie would indeed be shorter, peoples blood pressure would be elevated, and their minds would have been overtaxed with the reality of the present situation.

There is also hope in this movie as the truth is shared about socialism which is destructive to individual freedoms and the well being of people. The words of Ronald Reagan share how capitalism, individual freedom and choice raises the economic well being of all people at all income levels. Audiences will find finds themselves cheering at the end movie when the "Gipper" takes on Barack Obama.

Take your family and friends to this movie. While the November elections are upon us, this movie will help prepare people for conversations with their elected officials after the elections. It is time to hold them accountable at all levels be it Federal, State, County or City. Remember, it is "your money," your family and friends' money and the money of future generations that the government is taking and wasting.

I Want Your Money includes insightful interviews with Newt Gingrich, Steve Forbes, Ed Meese, Mike Huckabee, John Stossel, Michael Reagan, Congressmen Tom McClintock, Thad McCotter and former California governor Pete Wilson, among many others, EXPLAINING CLEARLY WHY OBAMA’S PLAN HAS FAILED, AND WHAT WE NEED TO DO TO RECOVER.

Candidate Bill Gunn's Prolife Stance - MA Congressional candidate stands for life

Bill Gunn is running for Congress in the first congressional district of MA. This includes the Greater Fitchburg area. Mr. Gunn's website did not state his position on prolife vs. prochoice, so I wrote to him ask him where he stood. Below are excerpts from Bill Gunn's email in response to my questions about prolife issues.

"I believe every abortion is taking of a life. I do not believe the federal government has the authority to mandate states allow abortion; that being said, if we do not have a court willing to decree that abortion is denying a human being their right to life (and presently we do not), it is an issue better left to the states. That will necessarily decrease the number of abortions drastically. I will never vote to fund abortions or to further the practice. Planned Parenthood ought never be supported by the government. Parents should always be notified (permission required) for anything to do with their children."

Furthermore, I was pleasantly surprised when I asked if I could share this issue, that Mr. Bill Gunn responded "It really should be the norm for your representative to respond honestly to your questions. A candidate's answers should not change according to the group he is addressing. Please feel free to share my response with anyone."

Finally, I have written Congressman Olver in the past, and his voting record and his replies, show that he is definitely on the side of abortion. Let me say it another way, Congressman Olver is not just prochoice, he is proabortion.

Here is Bill Gun's website:

Proclaiming the Civilization of Love in Fitchburg

By Ted Turner: On Monday, September 27, 2010, Planned parenthood of Fitchburg, MA held its "Grand Opening". Pro-life activists, concerned citizens, and local religious leaders gathered to voice their opposition to the new facility which will distribute the abortion pill and refer for abortions. There were more people present opposing the event than supporters.

We prayed a scriptural rosary. It was led by Rev. James Doran, OMV and Rev. David Phillipson (St. Joseph's Parish). We also prayed the Litany or Loreto. We were there from 11:45 to about 1:15 - the main time being from 12 to 1.

Below are photos in chronological order taken by Leila Lawler are of the people rallying against the event. Those of who stayed to the end were nicely rewarded - see the caption on the last photo.

Decade of Death

FRC Washington Update: Today marks a dark 10-year anniversary. On September 28, 2000 , the Food and Drug Administration approved Mifepristone, popularly know as RU-486, the one FDA-approved drug in the U.S. specifically for abortion. At the time, the approval process of RU-486 was politicized, rushed, and flawed. Sadly, women's health has suffered as a consequence. For an in-depth review of the FDA approval of RU-486, don't miss Dr. Chris Gacek's pamphlet, Politicized Science. Over the course of the last 10 years, thousands of babies and at least eight women have lost their lives to RU-486. While originally hailed as medical progress, the reality is that the FDA received over a thousand adverse event reports related to the drug, many involving blood transfusions, hospitalizations, and deaths. For information about the debate, check out Jeanne Monahan's op-ed, "RU-486: Ten Years After," published today in Human Events.

Warn Your Pharmacist about the New Abortion Drug

Family Research Council: As we previously reported, on August 13th the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) quietly announced approval of a new prescription abortion drug called "ella," allowing Watson Pharmaceuticals to market this drug in the U.S. as an "emergency contraceptive" (EC). While proponents of ella claim that it is more effective than the so-called "morning-after-pill," Plan B, ella can also function as an abortion drug (more like RU-486).

Ella is similar in its chemical make-up to RU-486 and therefore can destroy an implanted embryo, in addition to other such effects as preventing fertilization or preventing implantation. Until now, the FDA has drawn the line between EC and abortion based on whether a drug prevents or ends an established pregnancy. Therefore, approving ella as an EC even under its own definition of an abortifacient is doubly misleading.

Due to the FDA's approval of "ella" as an EC, pharmacists may believe they must cover ella as a prescription drug. However, many pharmacists do not know about the dangers of this drug or that it functions like an abortifacient. Many pharmacies may not know ella can cause an abortion, and need to be aware of these concerns before they begin stocking this abortion drug.

To educate pharmacists around the country about this new abortion drug and shed light on its dangers, we ask you to download this informational flyer, take it to your local pharmacy, and respectfully ask your pharmacist not to offer the ella abortion drug.

Abortion foes fight Caritas Christi sale

by Joe Carlson. Modern Abortion opponents are appealing directly to Pope Benedict XVI to call for a halt to all negotiations between the Archdiocese of Boston and private-equity firm Cerberus Capital Management over the proposed $830 million sale of six-hospital Caritas Christi Health Care, Boston.

R.T. Neary, the director of ProLife Massachusetts and chairman of the Coalition to Save Catholic Health Care, said in an open letter to the pope that Cerberus has negotiated a right to strip the Boston diocese-owned hospitals of their Catholic ethics and identities by paying an additional $25 million.

Neary's letter says the buy-out option “can only be likened to 25 pieces of silver,” a reference to the 30 pieces of silver for which Judas Iscariot betrayed Jesus Christ in biblical gospels. The letter says modern hospitals face a wide array of modern ethical problems, from abortion to in vitro fertilization, and that Boston-area residents should always have the ability to receive care at facilities that conform to Catholic ethics.

The widespread changing over of Catholic hospitals to non-religious leaders, and the attendant need to preserve Catholic identity in the face of that change, was one of the future challenges recently outlined in the Catholic Health Association's Vision 2020 forward-looking plan for the industry.

Pro-Life Actress Patricia Neal Dies, Regretted Her Abortion

by Marianna Trzeciak, Esq, Washington, D.C. ( Pro-life actress, Patricia Neal, died at age 84 on Sunday. She had been suffering from lung cancer and was surrounded by her family at her home in Massachusetts. Neal is best known for her Oscar-winning portrayal of a housekeeper in the 1963 movie, Hud, with Paul Newman.

She is also very well known for her valiant recuperation from a series of strokes which she suffered while pregnant in 1965. She was in a coma for 21 days. The Patricia Neal Rehabilitation Center, situated in Neal's hometown of Knoxville, Tennessee, is also award-winning for its care for people recovering from strokes and spinal cord and brain injuries.

The actress herself described her life as a Greek tragedy, in some measure. She had 5 children with her husband, Roald Dahl. The first, Olivia, died of measles at age seven. Another, Theo, was severely injured when his baby carriage was hit by a car. After thirty years of marriage and the survival from her strokes, Neal was divorced from Dahl after discovering his affair with a friend.

However, Neal said that her only regret in life was aborting a child when the actress was 21 years old.

Her lover (and co-star) Gary Cooper had persuaded her to have the abortion, as he was still married and had a daughter with his wife. That daughter, Maria Cooper, famously spat on Neal to show her displeasure that Neal had interfered with the marriage of the Coopers. However, later, the wife and daughter reconciled with Neal.

Maria Cooper is credited with helping Neal return to Catholicism. And, despite her hatred of the affair, Maria Cooper is said to have complained to Neal that the aborted child was the only sibling Maria Cooper would ever have and that she wished that the child had been given life.

Patricia Neal openly admired fellow actress Ingrid Bergman, who gave birth out of wedlock to a son by Roberto Rossellini, and was therefore denounced by the United States Senate. Neal said that Bergman had "guts" and that Neal wished that she had had the guts also to carry her baby to birth.

Joshua Mercer of Catholic Vote Action, noted Neal's death and her pro-life views in later life.

"Neal stood out against the grain of Hollywood by calling for the defense of unborn life. It was learned from her own mistakes," he said. "Neal appeared as a guest on The View and spoke gently about how abortion creates anguish and sorrow. She often said simply but powerfully: 'Don't make my mistake. Let your baby live.'"

"I had the chance to hear her speak about six or seven years ago and I can say without any hesitation that everyone in the room was moved by her testimony," Mercer continued.

Even the New York Times noted her abortion regrets in its obituary:
During her affair with Cooper, she became pregnant. She had an abortion and according to her 1988 autobiography, “As I Am,” (written with Richard DeNeut), she cried herself to sleep for 30 years afterward. “If I had only one thing to do over in my life,” she wrote, “I would have that baby.”
"Never underestimate the power of forgiveness! Maria Cooper understood that Jesus forgives, so she found the strength to do so as well. I believe that Patricia is eternally grateful," Mercer said.

The courage that eluded her at age 21 was certainly shown in later years. Rest in God's peace, Patricia Neal.

Pro-life Ministry Born Out of Fitchburg Catholic Parishes In Transition

By Patricia O'Connell, Catholic Free Press: FITCHBURG, MA – There have been many changes in Fitchburg this summer, as the reconfiguration process has resulted in four parishes, instead of eight. And this was, in part, the impetus for starting a new pro-life ministry at St. Francis of Assisi.

Father Emerito Ortiz, pastor, sees the effort as “something new for the parish and something new for the city of Fitchburg, to teach about life.” The ministry is being launched by parishioner Catherine Adair of Ashburnham, a mother of three. Her youngest child, Francis, is four months old.

“Well, honestly, for me, personally, I felt called to this ministry through prayer,” she said, adding that St. Francis parish, as well as the rest of the city, is going through a transition.  “It seemed like a very good time to get this ministry going,” she stated.  Mrs. Adair has been in contact with the diocesan Respect Life Office. She and Father Ortiz decided to hold the first meeting in the church hall this Sunday at 10 a.m., after the 9 a.m. English Mass, because it falls on the feast of the Assumption.

“I feel that people really need some positive, uplifting, prayerful things happening in their faith,” said Mrs. Adair.   Eventually, she said, she hopes to expand the ministry into other parishes. “I’d like to bring it to the entire city and beyond,” she stated.

Mrs. Adair said the issue of abortion won’t be the group’s only focus, and that the idea of respecting life will encompass the entire spectrum, from conception to natural death.   “We’re all made in God’s image and each one of us has worth and dignity in his eyes,” she added. “We hope to bring attention to the poor, the elderly, people who are facing challenges and mental health issues.” “It comes down to that fundamental, core issue – we are born in the image of God.”

Mrs. Adair also hopes the Pro-Life Ministry will be a bridge between the English-speaking parishioners and the Spanish-speaking parishioners. “What we hope to achieve at St. Francis is to be one community,” she said. “I think that this issue overcomes any obstacle or language,” she noted.

Father Ortiz also believes this will draw the two communities closer. “In that way, the parish will come together,” he said, noting that the first meeting is being held in the hour between the 9 a.m. English Mass and the 11 p.m. Spanish Mass.  Mrs. Adair said she hopes prayer will be a mainstay of the ministry, and she envisions prayers and Masses for life and rosaries for life.

Planned Parenthood ~ Class Action Lawsuit?

Looking back over the last 37 years since the U.S. Supreme Court decided to allow abortion to be legal, there were many things unknown to the women of America - and the field of medicine in general - concerning the physical, psychological, emotional, and spiritual damages caused by this horrid practice. Now, hundreds of thousands of women (and families) are coming forward to say that "abortion hurts women", and we believe that it's only a matter of time before class action lawsuits are pursued against organizations like Planned Parenthood - and other similar facilities - who have been potentially neglectful in providing these women with the information they would need in order to consent in a "truly informed" manner. This being the case, any forward looking law firm doesn't need a moral compass to know that there are perhaps billions of dollars in damages that could be sought in remedy. Obama Administration will give $160 million For More Abortions

ARRA News Service - While the Democrat pro-abortionists, i.e. baby killers, are hoping to be returned to office, the Obama Administration is giving $160 million of our tax dollars to set up a new “high-risk” insurance program under ObamaCare that will pay for MORE abortions. Where in the World is Bart Stupak? And why haven't we ever really found out what Stupak received for his vote? Congressman Pence (R-IN) responded on the side of life:
"It is morally wrong to end an unborn human life by abortion. It is also reprehensible to take taxpayer dollars from millions of pro-life Americans and use them to pay for abortions. President Obama promised the American people that his health care law would not allow federal funding of abortion. But according to an investigation by the National Right to Life Committee, this allocation for Pennsylvania’s high risk pool will break the president’s promise by using taxpayer dollars to subsidize coverage of nearly any kind of abortion.

“We must stop this immoral offense against human life and against American taxpayers. Congress should act quickly on critical legislation by Rep. Chris Smith (R-NJ) and Rep. Joe Pitts (R-PA) to stop the administration from using ObamaCare to fund abortions. The best long-term solution, and the one that I remain committed to, is the total repeal of ObamaCare.”

Andrea Bocelli - I Was Not Aborted

by Kerby Anderson, Point of View: Tenor Andrea Bocelli has become one of the best-known Italians in the world. He has sold more than 70 million records, and has moved people with his beautiful voice.

Recently he moved his audience with a story. While sitting at the piano at a charity performance for Haiti, he told the story of a young pregnant woman who went to the hospital with appendicitis. The doctors put ice on her stomach. And then later they suggested she have an abortion, since they believed the baby would be born with some disability.

"But the young brave wife decided not to abort, and the child was born," the singer recounted. "That woman was my mother, and I was the child." Andrea Bocelli went on: "Maybe I'm partisan, but I can say that it was the right choice." And he added, "I hope this could encourage any mothers who sometimes find themselves in difficult situations, in those moments when life is complicated, but want to save the life of their baby."

What a testimony for a man who often sings about tragedy who was willing to share that he almost became one. Of course, he received criticism for his testimony. And some even argued that he was making all of this up. You see, abortion wasn't legal until years after he was born.

Did these critics ever consider that the doctors were encouraging his mother to get a back alley abortion? Funny how we have heard pro-choice people talk about back alley abortions, but someone manage to forget about that possibility as soon as someone gives a pro-life testimony.

What we need are more pro-life people to give testimonies that start with their appreciation that their mother did not abort them. In fact, that is a great way to engage a conversation on abortion. When someone says that the mother has the right to choose, then ask them if they are glad that their mother chose life rather than death.

The testimony of Andrea Bocelli will no doubt cause pregnant women to reconsider abortion. In this case, an Italian tenor changed the tenor of the abortion debate. I'm Kerby Anderson, and that's my point of view.

Taxpayers spend $1 billion to promote abortion

By Elisabeth Meinecke: Organizations that promote or perform abortions spent nearly $1 billion in taxpayer money since 2002, according to a Government Accountability Office report released last week. . . . the GAO to look into the expenditures of six organizations and their affiliates: Planned Parenthood Federation of America, the International Planned Parenthood Federation, the Population Council, The Guttmacher Institute, Advocates for Youth, and Sexuality Information and Education Council of the United States. The report says these organizations and their affiliates spent $967.1 million in federal funds for fiscal years 2002-2009.

Each of these organizations promotes or performs abortions. Planned Parenthood’s 2006-2007 annual report, for example, states the organization performed 289,750 abortions in 2006 alone—a year it spent $100 million of taxpayer’s money. It performed 306,310 abortions in 2007, when it spent $97.6 million of federal funds.

The Guttmacher Institute has advocated legalizing abortion across the globe, and the Advocates for Youth recently came out in support of the Global Sexual and Reproductive Health Act of 2010, which calls for “safe abortion.” The SIEC has its pro-abortion position listed on its website. . . .

“A majority of Americans oppose taxpayer funding for groups that promote or perform abortions,” Olson said in a statement on the report. “With the national debt over $13 trillion—costing every American $118,000—we must apply strict scrutiny to every federal dollar allocated.”

The issue of taxpayer-funded abortions was one of the primary battles during the passage of Obamacare in March. President Obama signed an executive order prohibiting taxpayer-funded abortions under the new healthcare law. But House Minority Leader John Boehner wrote in an op-ed Friday that it doesn’t appear the administration has implemented the order:

“As far as anyone can tell, the Obama Administration hasn’t lifted a finger to implement the executive order, even as it forges ahead aggressively with implementation of the rest of the massive new law. I asked President Obama about this directly at the White House last week. Since then, however, there has been no communication from the White House about the status of his executive order,” Boehner said. . . . [Full Article]

Planned Parenthood's missing millions

RITA DILLER: A new report from the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) on federal tax money funneled into Planned Parenthood and similar organizations raises more questions than it answers about the nation's largest abortion chain.

Planned Parenthood Federation of America's (PPFA) audits show the organization spent just $657.1 million between 2002 and 2008 from federal government grants and programs, but the abortion behemoth's own annual reports show that it took in $2.3 billion from government grants and programs during the same time period.

That's not pocket change. Why the discrepancy? . . . (more)

Can you still be 'pro-choice' after watching this video?

H/T and Cross-posted from TheBlogProf: First the video via One True Media (behold the face of evil):

The President with a heart "bigger than any heart in the world" took this action on infanticide:
In 2002, as an Illinois legislator, Obama voted against the Induced Infant Liability Act, which would have protected babies that survived late-term abortions.

Obama voted against this bill in the Illinois senate and killed it in committee. Twice, the Induced Infant Liability Act came up in the Judiciary Committee on which he served. At its first reading he voted “present.” At the second he voted “no.”

The bill was then referred to the senate’s Health and Human Services Committee, which Obama chaired after the Illinois Senate went Democratic in 2003. As chairman, he never called the bill up for a vote.
That last part was a defacto "no" vote. More than the above is the personal account of nurse Jill Stanek who witnessed surviving babies being left to die in soiled linens:
Jill Stanek, a registered delivery-ward nurse who was the prime mover behind the legislation after she witnessed aborted babies’ being born alive and left to die, testified twice before Obama in support of the Induced Infant Liability Act bills. She also testified before the U.S. Congress in support of the Born Alive Infant Protection Act.

Stanek told me her testimony “did not faze” Obama.

In the second hearing, Stanek said, “I brought pictures in and presented them to the committee of very premature babies from my neonatal resuscitation book from the American Pediatric Association, trying to show them unwanted babies were being cast aside. Babies the same age were being treated if they were wanted!”

And those pictures didn’t faze him [Obama] at all,” she said.
Out of sight, out of mind. I've mentioned this many times in this blog but it is always worth repeating that the most viciously pro-abort zealot to ever sit in the Oval Office did the following:
The multiple pro-infanticide votes are the most egregious of the above egregious acts:
And who can forget this ghoulish stump speech where Obama likened babies to STDs and called them a punishment:

"By their fruit you will recognize them." But don't question his faith:
