After Thanksgiving Thought ... Taste Buds

Bill Smith, Editor: Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving day and enjoyed the traditional foods that you and your family enjoy at this time of year. One of the reasons you enjoyed that food was because of your "taste buds." Did you know that you had "taste buds" when you 15 weeks in your mother's womb.

While miracles never cease, unfortunately, mankind has the ability to destroy them. As you, continue your daily routines preparing for the Christmas holiday season, please pray for the miracle of life to continue.

18 and Out of the Foster Care System, She Finally Gets Adoptive Family Amanda was almost 18 and about to “age out” of the foster care system. But while our nation’s laws consider someone who’s 18 to be an adult, you and I kbnow there’s still a lot of growing up left to do at that age. Even young adults need a mom and a dad. For example, Amanda still yearned for a mother’s love to soothe her on the bad days and share the joy with her on the good ones. She wanted a dad to hold her hand and walk her down the aisle. Amanda always dreamed of having somewhere to come home to on the holidays. Read more

President Abraham Lincoln’s 1863 Thanksgiving Proclamation The year that is drawing toward its close has been filled with the blessings of fruitful fields and healthful skies. To these bounties, which are so constantly enjoyed that we are prone to forget the source from which they come, others have been added which are of so extraordinary a nature that they can not fail to penetrate and soften even the heart which is habitually insensible to the ever-watchful providence of Almighty God. In the midst of a civil war of unequaled magnitude and severity, which has sometimes seemed to foreign states to invite and to provoke their aggression, peace has been preserved with all nations, order has been maintained, the laws have been respected and obeyed, and harmony has prevailed everywhere, except in the theater of military conflict, while that theater has been greatly contracted by the advancing armies and navies of the Union. Abortions Decline 3 Percent Nationally as Abortion Clinics Keep Closing As more and more abortion clinics continue to close nationwide, the number of abortions nationally continues to decline. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released its latest national abortion statistics today and found the number and rate of reported abortions fell 3 percent in 2010, the most recent year for which the CDC has statistics. The three percent decline in 2010 follows on the heels of a five percent decline in 2009. The CDC reported 753,000 abortions in 2010, but that includes just 45 states and the best national estimate is about 1.2 million abortions taking place annually. Read More

Rachel Maddow Show - Supreme Court and the Contraception Mandate

American Life League : On the November 26 edition of the Rachel Maddow Show, Maddow once more throws ALL's 'The Pill Kills' project into a debate about Republican ideology. The Pill Kills is not a conservative or Republican argument. It's a education project meant to inform families with regard to the dangers of hormonal contraception. The video provides insight as to how abortion advocates plan to bring the fight to the public and in the courts to support their allegations that we are the ones who do not believe in science and do not have a right to religious freedom—and that, in fact, those in opposition to the contraception mandate can't even agree on what we believe.

There is Hope for all who are hurting

Beatrice, SilentNoMoreCampaign: When I was eighteen, I started college and I became pregnant. My boyfriend said: "you have to get rid of that". I was shocked for I thought we would get married. And everybody was telling me that having a baby in College would keep me from graduating. So I went to a clinic and I took abortive pills against my will.

I flushed my baby in the toilet and it was horrifying. And it didn't help me to graduate. It's been nineteen years and to this day, I don't have a degree. But after the procedure, I started to experience severe depression and anxiety disorder. I hardened my heart and I became a pro-choice advocate to help me cope with the situation.

Judge Rules Against Housing Allowance for Ministers

by Bethany Monk: A federal judge in Wisconsin issued an opinion Friday saying housing allowances for clergy members are unconstitutional. If carried out, the ruling would affect pastors and their families across the country.

Passed by Congress in 1954, the Clergy Housing Allowance Clarification Act protects ministers from paying income tax on compensation that goes toward housing. The Freedom from Religious Foundation (FFRF) filed suit against U.S. Treasury Secretary Jacob Lew and acting IRS commissioner Daniel Werfel.

"We find the Freedom from Religion Foundation's argument to be disingenuous," said Dan Busby, president of the Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability (ECFA). "They indicate that they are harmed by the inability to claim the clergy housing exclusion for their leaders, when they actually never attempted to claim this exclusion."

If the law is eventually struck down, pastors and their families would be deeply affected.

“For the most part, pastors across the country are compensated modestly for doing very demanding work,” Busby told CitizenLink. “So many members of the clergy have relied on this exclusion for decades. This ruling, in effect, forces clergy of nearly every religion across America to pay additional taxes regardless of faith or creed. The bottom line is: This will force congregations to either increase clergy compensation to offset these taxes or require pastors to dig deep to see if they’re able to absorb these taxes. But in most cases, this will lead to several thousands of dollars in taxes a year for clergy that they have not been paying. And it’s especially hurtful to retired clergy.”

In her decision, U.S. District Judge Barbara Crabb claims the exemption “provides a benefit to religious persons and no one else, even though doing so is not necessary to alleviate a special burden on religious exercise.”

Crabb knows that previous decisions do not agree, and in fact, she kept her decision from going into effect while the case is ongoing.

“Given the wide-ranging impact that this decision could have, we anticipate the decision will be appealed,” Busby explained. “We believe the judge that handed down this decision fully anticipated the appeals process, since she ‘stayed’ her decision until all appeals are concluded.” . . . FOX News: Interview with Chuck Donovan on Taxpayer Funding of Abortion

SBA List: Charlotte Lozier Institute President Chuck Donovan explains the abortion funding problems in the Affordable Care Act. The Obamacare preventive services mandate requires nearly everybody to fund abortion-inducing drugs. Additionally the Lozier Institute has research to prove that, through the Multi State Plans, between 71,000 and 111,500 abortions per year will be heavily subsidized by taxpayers via federal premium tax credits and Medicaid expansion.

"The issue of whether the Affordable Care Act creates streams of taxpayer funding for abortion has been hotly debated," said Donovan, when releasing the paper. "Research done by the Lozier Institute makes clear that, through the Multi-State Plans alone, Americans will be complicit in the deaths of thousands of unborn children each year through their tax dollars."

The Fragility of Life: A Heartbreaking Account of a Baby Lost to Miscarriage It is the end of the week and the day is rapidly getting away from me. Pro-Lifer Was Detained for Transporting Aborted Baby Across State Lines, It Was Human Remains In 2009, Christian author Randy Alcorn updated his book “Pro-life Answers to Pro-Choice Arguments” Pro-Life Answers to Pro-Choice Arguments is a powerful pro-life tool which provides answers to the most common pro-choice slogans and arguments. The book is full of facts. I wanted to share the following story, on page 97. “A pro-life speaker was detained by police for carrying with him the preserved body of an aborted baby. He was told it was illegal to transport human remains across state lines without special permission. When he realized that this meant the state would have to argue in court that the bodies of aborted babies are in fact human remains, he welcomed prosecution! The state dropped the charges. Though they knew these were human remains, how could a state the defends and funds abortions publicly admit – much less attempt to prove – that abortion kills human beings?” Read More
