Medical Examiner Confirms Woman Died From Heart Attack After Botched Abortion The Cuyahoga Medical Examiner’s Office ruled today that a young woman died from complications due to a legal abortion she obtained at a Cleveland abortion clinic earlier this year. Marriage at Notre Dame: From Sacrament To Sacrilege

by Diana West: The National Catholic Register broke the most shocking cultural news of the week:

“A group of students at the University of Notre Dame has generated a campus-wide controversy by advocating that marriage between one woman and one man is better suited for children than same-sex ‘marriage.’”

Welcome to campus controversy 2014, where the subversives are traditionalists and, as we will see, the subversives control the establishment.

The Register continued:
“The group – known as Students for Child Oriented Policy (SCOP) – elicited negative letters to the campus newspaper and prompted hundreds of students to sign a petition calling upon the university not to recognize it as an official campus club.”What comes next may not be surprising, but it remains gasp-worthy: Notre Dame refused to recognize the group favoring what we now know as “traditional marriage” as an official campus club. Why? The administration offered a thin excuse, saying the new club would duplicate the mission of two other campus groups that promote Catholic doctrine – one of which, it turns out, hasn’t updated its website since 2005. Meanwhile, according to SCOP’s prospective president, Tiernan Kane, his group doesn’t identify itself with a specifically Catholic mission, coming together instead as a non-sectarian effort to “focus on public policy as it relates to issues that specifically affect children.”

The Register reported that planned club activities would have included “presentations on Common Core and Indiana education policy, marijuana’s effect on young people’s brains, the United Kingdom’s anti-pornography policy and the problems associated with no-fault divorce.” The club’s position that traditional marriage is good policy is what drew campus fire.

There’s a lot here, so let’s take it from the top. First, we have just learned that on the campus of one of the leading Catholic universities in the country, the concept of same-sex marriage isn’t just popular, it’s entrenched to the point where it is controversial to prefer the traditional model – even to argue that heterosexual marriage is better social policy for children. In fact, the belief that a child is better off with a mother and a father rather than two mothers or two fathers is so unpopular that 630 students signed their names on a petition to prevent it from being promoted by an official campus club.

So much for the ancient consensus on heterosexual monogamy from which Western civilization evolved. That’s out the window at Notre Dame. Indeed, the Register further reported that a university official “expressed disapproval” over the prospective club’s call for Notre Dame President Father John Jenkins to “make a clear stand” for heterosexual marriage. Once upon a time, of course, heterosexual marriage didn’t require a university president or anyone else to make a “clear stand.” Today, a leading Catholic academic doesn’t want to “come out” as its supporter, let alone advocate.

This topsy-turvy episode at Notre Dame marks as another defeat in what used to be thought of as the culture wars. Once again, elites have deserted the religious and societal bastions even as foot soldiers still maneuver. What is more dispiriting to watch even than the increasing “inclusion” of homosexual and lesbian unions in the definition of marriage – and I expect one day that polygamous and perhaps even incestuous unions will similarly be normalized – is the demonization of traditional belief.

The Register story went on to describe a conference SCOP staged last month on the definition and importance of marriage, featuring conservative legal and religious experts. “Prior to the event,” the newspaper reports, “a SCOP member wrote a letter to a campus newspaper, The Observer, asking that students approach the April 3 conference and SCOP with an open mind, in the same manner as they approached the attempts to found Notre Dame’s gay-straight alliance club, PrismND, in 2012.” PrismND is Notre Dame’s GLBTQ group.

Notre Dame has an open mind, all right – at least when it comes to the GLBTQ group. That club received official club status. Not so SCOP. “It’s the new political correctness,” explained Patrick Reilly, president of the Cardinal Newman Society, a traditional Catholic group. “Very often the same students who scream censorship in nearly every other instance are the ones who would silence those who promote Catholic teachings. Those who advocate difficult teachings are shunned or ridiculed.”

The best and brightest call that progress.

Senator Ted Cruz: The torch of freedom rises anew…

CatholicismUSA: U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, today released the following letter commemorating Memorial Day. We concur.Friends,

This Memorial Day weekend, in cities and towns all over America, small red paper flowers will be worn and carried by Americans honoring our veterans.

The paper flowers symbolize the poppies WWI veteran John McCrae wrote about in his famous poem, “In Flanders Field,” after being struck by the beauty of the bright red blooms that emerged from the graves of his fellow soldiers.

But it was a Georgia teacher named Monia Michael who began the tradition of wearing the red flower in remembrance of those who sacrificed their lives to protect our freedoms.

She had read a copy of McCrae’s poem in Ladies Home Journal and then wrote her own poem that said:Oh! you who sleep in Flanders Fields,
Sleep sweet – to rise anew!
We caught the torch you threw
And holding high, we keep the Faith
With All who died.
Those flowers became her torch. Millions of people, all across the world, have now worn paper poppies to honor the courage of servicemen and servicewomen.

We should all find our own way to carry on the torch of freedom.

May we never forget the lives of each soldier; it is their blood that has kept us free. And it is their sacrifice that calls each of us to cherish the gift of liberty.

20th Abortion Seller Shuts Down In Texas

by Kim Trobee, CitizenLinks: The 20th abortion seller in Texas has shut its doors — for good.

These closures follow a 2013 pro-life law that requires abortionists to have admitting privileges at a nearby hospital. The law also prohibits abortions after 20 weeks, when preborn babies begin to feel pain.

Northpark Medical Group (NMG) in Dallas has reportedly decided to close because it did not meet health standards.

Texas Values President Jonathan Saenz said abortion activists have been claiming that the law is forcing these facilities to close. The truth is, he said, that many abortion sellers are choosing to shut down.

“These abortion clinics are choosing to shut down themselves because they’re refusing to follow common sense laws that protect women and show respect toward innocent human life,” Saenz told CitizenLink. “If it’s going to cost them more money or they’re going to have to do it in a safer way, they decide not to do it at all. It really is not about what’s best for women, it’s what’s best for their business.”

Saenz said pro-life legislation is needed to protect women, as abortion is a major medical procedure.

“It’s incredibly invasive, and when things take a wrong turn, it can have tragic consequences,” he said. The legislation that Texas put in place really has kind of pulled the curtain back to make sure that… abortion providers cannot operate under the dark of night and have women essentially blindfolded through this process.”

He said the Texas law could become model legislation.

“I think you’ll see a lot of states wanting to put in place these common sense protection measures,” he said. “It’s great that Texas leaders have said that this issue is so important, not only the innocent human being in the womb, but women deserve the highest standard of medical care and that’s what these laws represent.”

NMG has been aborting preborn babies for more than 30 years. The facility is affiliated with abortionist Douglas Karpen, who faced a lawsuit last year alleging, according to the complaint, he killed babies after they were born. A grand jury cleared him of the charges.

The ONLY Way To Stop Abortion In America

To claim a right to 'decide' whether or not some individual, or class of individuals, should be protected equally under our laws, is to deny the unalienable, God-given nature of our rights, the basis for the American claim to liberty, the cornerstone for the rule of law, the very raison d'etre of human government, according to our founders:

"We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. That to secure these rights, governments are instituted among men..."

A return to these principles, first and foremost by those who call themselves Christians, is the only hope for our country.

As the great Frederick Douglass said in 1852:

“I have said that the Declaration of Independence is the ring-bolt to the chain of your nation’s destiny; so, indeed, I regard it. The principles contained in that instrument are saving principles. Stand by those principles, be true to them on all occasions, in all places, against all foes, and at whatever cost.”

In 1858, in a speech delivered one week before the start of his famous debates with Steven A. Douglas, Abraham Lincoln said:"Now, my countrymen, if you have been taught doctrines conflicting with the great landmarks of the Declaration of Independence; if you have listened to suggestions which would take away from its grandeur and mutilate the fair symmetry of its proportions; if you have been inclined to believe that all men are not created equal in those inalienable rights enumerated by our chart of liberty, let me entreat you to come back. Return to the fountain whose waters spring close by the blood of the Revolution. Think nothing of me — take no thought for the political fate of any man whomsoever — but come back to the truths that are in the Declaration of Independence. You may do anything with me you choose, if you will but heed these sacred principles. You may not only defeat me for the Senate, but you may take me and put me to death. While pretending no indifference to earthly honors, I do claim to be actuated in this contest by something higher than an anxiety for office. I charge you to drop every paltry and insignificant thought for any man's success. It is nothing; I am nothing; Judge Douglas is nothing. Legal Group Files Suit on Behalf of Pastor Jailed / Harrased for Holding ProLife Sign

by Kim Trobee, CitizenLink: A legal group filed suit against Columbus, Miss., on behalf of a pastor who was arrested and jailed after participating in a peaceful pro-life demonstration. The Rev. Stephen Joiner is challenging two city ordinances that he says are unconstitutional.

Joiner is pastor of Church of the Nazarene in Columbus. In 2011, he was standing on a corner holding a pro-life sign. According to the suit, a police officer arrested Joiner after he refused to leave the area. The officer, the complaint states, told Joiner he was blocking traffic and violating the city’s Parade Ordinance. Joiner was standing alone and several feet from the road at the time of his arrest, according to the suit.

The city’s Parade Ordinance says the Chief of Police gets to decide who may assemble in “the public rights of way.” According to the suit, this is a “content-based regulation of First Amendment activity.”

According to the suit, Joiner was handcuffed so tightly his wrists bled. He was put in shackles and denied food, water and use of a bathroom at the Lowndes County Jail. Joiner is diabetic and had not eaten for several hours.

After four hours, Joiner was released on bail. The charges were dismissed in 2013.

“The First Amendment protects the right of citizens to express themselves on the public ways free of government interference,” said Liberty Counsel CEO Mat Staver. “The city’s actions were entirely unjustified and are an affront to the fundamental rights of all Americans. Even unpopular speech is protected when peacefully expressed, as Pastor Joiner did here.”

Senators Urge Obama Admin to Help 8-Month-Pregnant Woman Sentenced to Death for Rejecting Islam < Members of the U.S. Senate are pleading with the Obama administration to help Meriam Ibrahim, who is 8-months pregnant and is a Christian woman sentenced to hang to death in Sudan for rejecting Islam. She is being shackled by Sudanese officials despite the fact she is eight-months pregnant. She will be tortured – beaten with 100 lashes for marrying an American Christian. Louisiana Passes Bill That Could Close Three of Its Five Abortion Clinics The Louisiana state legislature today put the finishing touches on HB 388, the Unsafe Abortion Protection Act, that the Planned Parenthood abortion business says could close three of the five abortion clinics in the state. When the state of Texas clamped down on abortion clinics that could not follow basic health and safety standards and failed to ensure abortion practitioners had admitting privileges at local hospitals in cases where women are injured in botched abortions, abortion clinics closed down because they couldn’t comply. Mother Kills Her Three Little Girls Aged 3, 2 and 2-Months Old In a shocking case of murder and infanticide Carol Coronado, 30, was arrested on suspicion of murder on Tuesday at her home in Torrance, California. She stands accused of killing her three little girls, ashed three, two and two-months old. The claim involve blood tests that were performed on Texas teenagers by a Texas-based affiliate of the abortion giant.
