Report: Voters Can Protect Life at the Polls

CitizenLink Team: If Roe v. Wade were overturned today, Tennessee would still have legal abortion.

The Family Action Council of Tennessee, one of CitizenLink’s 38 associated family policy councils, is working to pass Amendment 1. It would fix a 2000 ruling by the state supreme court that gives abortion even greater protection in the state.

“The effect of the court’s decision was to remove our voice as citizens,” said David Fowler, president of the Family Action Council of Tennessee. “The Tennessee supreme court said, ‘We’re going to take one side and make it a constitutional right and the rest of you can just go home.’”

Several pro-life laws were overturned in the wake of the ruling, including a partial-birth abortion ban.

“That’s why we need Amendment 1,” Fowler said, “to restore our voice and be able to decide what we think is best for women and children in Tennessee.”

DAY 7: Courage In A Global Crisis - 40 Days for Life

by Shawn Carney, 40 Days for Life: The abortion crisis takes more lives globally than war and disease combined. The numbers can be overwhelming ... so the solution must start with prayer.

As 40 Days for Life continues to grow, faithful people in new countries are taking a leap of faith and bringing this campaign to their nations. The languages are different, but the message is the same: “Pray and fast for an end to abortion.”

There are vigils at 297 locations in 13 countries! Find the one nearest you … and get involved!

Here’s the latest from brand-new campaigns in Mexico and Croatia …

Mexico City, Mexico
There’s great news from Lourdes, who is coordinating the first-ever 40 Days for Life vigil in Mexico City.

“A life was saved!” she said.

Vigil participants watched as a couple entered the facility. A few minutes later, the young woman ran out in tears. “The girl was so sad and had panic on her face,” Lourdes said. “That touched all of the volunteers.”

The man really wanted her to go back inside – in fact, he said she had to go back in for the abortion. His whole attitude changed when one of the volunteers said, “That child is also yours.”

The couple then walked away … and never went back in!
The campaign itself got off to a great start. “We had a successful kickoff event where more than hundred people attended,” Lourdes said.

The first morning of the vigil, the abortion facility hired private security guards to intimidate the volunteers. They also parked cars next to the building to keep the vigil participants at a distance.

“The second day,” she said, “local police arrived and the volunteers felt nervous.” But it was the private guards that the officers wanted to talk to. They were told to move the cars away from the building.

“The volunteers were astonished,” said Lourdes. “It is really impressive what prayer can do!”

Rijeka, Croatia
Ante, the 40 Days for Life leader in Zagreb, has been helping 40 Days for Life spread to other Croatian cities. He had asked people in Rijeka if they wanted to participate, but at first they were hesitant.

Shortly before the campaign was to start, however, they saw the faith and courage of people in other cities and committed to the effort. They received approval from the local hospital to pray right in front of the door of the gynecology center.

“In Croatia,” Ante explained, “we don’t have abortion clinics, so we pray in front of hospitals, very far away from gynecology doors. So, Rijeka is greatly blessed to have that approval.”

He was able to spend some time with the volunteers in Rijeka. “After two hours, two provocateurs came, sneered at us, cursed and insulted us, took our pictures and recorded us. But they only stayed 15-20 minutes.

Ante also met the archbishop of Rijeka. “He blessed our actions. He is the third bishop who has publicly supported the initiative.”

DAY 6 - 9,001 Babies Saved! Forty Days for Life

by Shawn Carney, 40 Days for Life: On Mondays during 40 Days for Life campaigns, we share the best news of the week — the updated number of mothers choosing life for their babies.

Thus far during this campaign, there have been 28 babies saved that we know of.

And that makes the number of lives reported spared from abortion ...

... since 40 Days for Life began as a coordinated effort in 2007 ...

... a phenomenal total of 9,001!

Praise God!!!

Here are some of the beautiful stories behind those numbers.

Savannah, Georgia

Volunteers were praying at the 40 Days for Life vigil when a couple arrived at the building. One of the women left the group and explained that real help was available at the pregnancy resource center across the street.

“The man did not want to talk or get any information,” said one of the volunteers. “He said a few choice things and they went inside.”

A short time later, he came out alone. “All of us were praying,” she said, “all thinking about how angry he seemed to be and for God to help this lady and man.”

In another 15 minutes or so, the woman came out. “You could just tell how upset she was,” the vigil participant said.

They convinced her to visit the pregnancy center, where they left her in good hands. Half an hour later, she walked back across the street to meet the man, who had been waiting in his car. The two returned to the abortion center.

He kept saying that the woman didn’t need to be listening to the vigil participants and taking the information. The woman’s face told a different story, as she had more of an “everything’s going to be okay” attitude.

Eventually, the woman came out and said she was not having an abortion. “She had not wanted it in the first place,” the volunteer said, “and he would not listen to her. And now, her face looked so joyous compared to how she first looked when she arrived.”

Shreveport, Louisiana
“What a day!” said Chris, the 40 Days for Life coordinator in Shreveport. “We had two women who said they were going to have their babies,” he excitedly explained. “Yeah that's right – two saves!”

There was another woman who arrived for a pregnancy test, but she never entered the abortion facility. She instead visited the pregnancy resource center nearby.

“So all in all, that's three turnaways!” Chris said. “Thanks to all who are praying from home and on the sidewalk.”

Churches and Domestic Violence

Kerby Anderson
by Kerby Anderson, Point of View:  Domestic violence may be in the news these days, but that doesn't mean that pastors and churches are talking about it. A recent LifeWay Research study found that pastors rarely talk about the issue but are at least interested in getting more training on the issue.

The survey asked how often pastors speak about domestic violence. The good news is that some do talk about it on a fairly regular basis. Unfortunately, most do not. One in ten never talk about it. One third rarely talk about it. And another 22 percent maybe talk about it once a year. If you add these together two-thirds talk about it once a year or less.

Is domestic abuse a problem inside the church? If this survey is any indication, there are many in the church who are victims of abuse. Unfortunately, that is not how many pastors perceive the issue. According to the LifeWay survey, 72 percent of pastors who speak about the issue said domestic violence is a problem in the community. But only 25 percent said it is a problem in the church.

A recent article in the Dallas Morning News illustrated the problem. One pastor in an African-American church told the story of a woman who confided that her husband was abusing her. He didn't think the man was capable of that. But when he confronted the abuser, he "didn't deny that it has happened." These incidents and additional education made him much less skeptical about other reports of abuse.

An abuser can seem like a great person. He might be a deacon or an usher. He or she might be in the choir. So when someone who has been abused comes forward, it may be hard for a pastor to believe that domestic violence is taking place.

Most of the pastors surveyed were willing to receive more training. Only 40 percent agreed with the statement that seminary provided them with sufficient resources to address the problem of domestic violence. It is worth noting that 15 percent did not even attend seminary, and therefore had no seminary training for this issue.

This latest survey reminds us that we have work to do in the church. We need to talk about domestic violence and train those in ministry to recognize abuse and deal with it effectively.

The Hope of the Devil

The Hellish Logic Behind Modern Man's Unbridled Embrace of Evil
“The whole world lies in the power of the evil one.” 1 John 5:19
by Rolly Haggard, Contributing Author: A spot of color in the corner of the Dead Letter Bin caught Angus Bartleby's eye. An envelope had somehow gotten entirely wedged in a crevice. As he worked it loose, he saw it bore a blue stamp with the image of King George VI. The postmark read May 1943.

“Well, I'll be jiggered,” Bartleby exclaimed. “It's been jammed in there for over a year.”

As he examined the envelope, the glue gave way and the letter inside fell to the floor. He would have simply tossed it in the rubbish, but the quaintness of the lettering, handwritten in dark crimson ink, gave him pause. “I suppose there's no harm in scanning a few lines,” he told himself. And with that he began reading words that neither man nor angel had ever laid eyes on:

My Dear Nephew,

It is of the utmost importance that you read and destroy this immediately. What I tell you here has been sealed since Eden. It must not fall into enemy hands. Though His people are inept beyond words, our Ancient Foe always seems to find ways to leverage their weaknesses to His advantage. We cannot take any chances.

I have just learned that Heaven is presently making plans for the Final Battle. We have but decades to deploy our own “Armageddon Strategy.”

No doubt you have wondered at times how, pitted as we are against so formidable an Adversary, our Father has been able to remain so unshakably optimistic all these millennia. There's no question our Enemy could vanquish us in a moment if He so wished. (I hardly need remind you of the sampling of His wrath we received at the Rebellion.)

But the fact is, we've always known He won't take drastic action “before the time.” His ego won't permit it. He wants to drive home a point, but it requires due process. Ironically, it's that consummate ego of His which, in the end, will prove—if you'll pardon the term—our salvation.

To put it plainly, He's not finished flaunting in front of His sycophantic followers how “great and glorious” He is. The whole reason He's spared us this long is so at the end He can rattle off a long litany of undeserved mercies bestowed on a select group of “unworthy” men. He's so cocksure of final victory He hasn't given a moment's thought to how His glory-seeking has set Him up for defeat.

Yes, Nephew, I said defeat. The passage of time has provided us opportunity to mount an invincible counteroffensive. Our Enemy, blinded by self-adulation, has convinced Himself His “mercies” have served solely to secure the adoring worship of millions. But the truth is His vainglorious displays have allowed us to build the case that everything He does is selfishly motivated. He doesn't love people; He loves only Himself. That Cross thing wasn't about men; it was about His glory. Instead of chronicling why any should love Him, history has been documenting why all should hate Him.

Indeed, Our Father believes—indeed, is very confident—that by the time the Final Battle is joined there will be sufficient evidence to convince the world the Enemy is just as guilty of transgression as any of those over whom He audaciously presumes to sit in judgment. When this becomes universally apparent (and it is our intention to make it so) He won't be able to condemn anyone without condemning Himself.

This is how our strategy will work: Men act more on instinct than on carefully reasoned thought. Exploiting that, we plan to stimulate in every man's subconsciousness a growing awareness that to this day God cannot furnish a satisfactory explanation for the existence of “evil.”

You may be thinking, “But most men are practical atheists. Why would they bother themselves regarding Someone they don't really believe exists?” The fact is, Nephew, atheism isn't disbelief in God. All men know God exists. They just don't like Him. Atheism is simply the refusal to acknowledge Him, the final stage of contempt before outright hostility. It is the passive hatred of God. We're going to incite men to go from passive to active hatred.

When that happens it will produce unbridled rage, manifesting itself in thoughts like “How dare He sit in judgment on me? He's the one who set the stage for evil and suffering in the first place. Not only is He not worthy to be worshiped, He's not worthy of anything—except to be despised and blasphemed!”

And that is exactly what will ensue: despite and blasphemy. Feeling wholly justified to openly rebel against Him, men will throw off everything that smacks of deference, even little things like common decency. But most notably they will reject—utterly and brazenly—all He calls “good,” and embrace—unreservedly—all He calls “evil.” They will perform, even in public, the most outrageous acts of immorality and barbarism imaginable—and will pointedly do it, simply because He forbids it.

And then we deal Him the death blow. As men become universally conscious that the existence of evil and suffering was part of His deliberate plan, they will perceive the moral rectitude of our ancient Rebellion and will rise up in solidarity with us against our Unjust Judge. Together, in the coming second and final offensive, we will accuse Him of precisely what the accumulated evidence shows: that He wanted us to sin so He could “righteously” damn some, and “mercifully” save others—all for His “glory.”

It is this, our calling Him to account, that will bring Him down. For if He is not able to prove Himself blameless, neither is He qualified to reign over us and sit in moral judgment upon our sins. If we perish under those circumstances, then we perish with honor, being proven the only truly righteous ones and He the true devil.

But, Nephew, we shall not perish. Our Enemy is too proud to live with the admission that He's even more at fault than those on whom He sits in judgment. He may forever wish us damned, but to save His pride He will almost certainly have to grant us clemency by conceding the unjustness of our condemnation. Unless He wishes to live with eternal self-loathing—which, considering His prodigious ego, is exceedingly unlikely—He will be forced to grant us, with Himself, blanket amnesty. Thus both parties, being equally “guilty,” shall be equally exonerated; He to live eternally the way He wants, and we to live eternally the way we want.

So there you have it: Our Father's hope, the source of his optimism. It is a hope that is, if I may coopt our Enemy's own phrase, “both sure and steadfast.”

Sometime ago one of His more intractable followers sneeringly remarked: “The devill . . . the prowde spirite . . . cannot endure to be mocked.” Do you see the heady irony here, Nephew? The thing Christians most scorn in Our Father—pride—is the very thing that shall prove the downfall of the One they call their Father! When I recall statements like this found in Psalm 74:22 I can scarcely contain myself:

“Arise, O God, and plead Your own cause;
Remember how the foolish man reproaches You all day long.”

Tell me again who the foolish one is!

I must close, Nephew. I'm feeling giddy.

Your affectionate and jubilant uncle,

Dropping it in the trash like the unclean thing it was, Bartleby thought to himself, what a horrid letter! Could the day really come when the whole world might descend with abandon into such evils? He didn't really think so. But he was dimly aware his was more a refusal than a conviction. With effort he finally brought himself to say, “Why, it's nowt but despicable nonsense. And to think for a minute ye almost convinced yourself of it. Ah, Bartleby!”

But as if in reply, only a few hundred leagues distant there came pouring forth from trainloads of helpless human cargo—themselves on the way to abject, howling nightmare—what some might call a prophecy (presaging, as it did, the commission of murderous cruelties against millions even more helpless than they—against babies); and yet a prophecy uttered not with words but with the anguished tears and groans of multitudes crying, in language seemingly understood and cared about by Heaven alone, “Ah, Humanity!”
Author's note: The foregoing is “a true fiction.” Precisely what that term signifies is left to the reader to decide. Sincerest apologies to C. S. Lewis and Herman Melville for the several audacious liberties.

DAY 5: Bold Shepherds - 40 Days for Life

by Shawn Carney, 40 Days for Life:: Pastors are shepherds. And where the shepherds go, the flock follows.

40 Days for Life has spread to 27 countries because many pastors have boldly led their flocks – by word and example – to defend those being led to the slaughter.

When people see their pastor at the peaceful vigil, it’s a great encouragement to get involved ... and join in the prayer for an end to abortion. It also a powerful sight for those entering and working in the abortion facility.

Thank your pastor today. Their lives are not easy ... and they need and appreciate our prayers and encouragement.

Cobleskill, New York
Pat, the 40 Days for Life leader in Cobleskill, was grateful for the people who turned out for an early-morning rally with Steve Karlen, 40 Days for Life’s North American outreach director.

But Pat was especially thankful for the area pastors who helped with the rally ... or prayed at the vigil during the campaign. “We thank the clergy who are leading the faithful in such a bold way.

Specifically cited for their leadership were the pastors of Calvary Chapel of the Hills, St. Christopher Episcopal Church and Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Steve encouraged the crowd and gave witness to what the power of prayer can do in a community. “On average, 80 babies are killed by abortion each year in Schoharie County,” Pat said, “and we can make a difference.”

Milwaukee, Wisconsin
Dan Miller, the 40 Days for Life leader in Milwaukee, and Bishop Donald Hying are smiling in the photo that Dan sent us. Why would anyone smile in front of an abortion center? Dan can explain.

For three days in a row, they were not open for abortions,” he said. “There was no abortionist present each of those days.”

Dan also said a unique prayer event will return to the Milwaukee campaign during this 40 Days for Life effort.

Milwaukee-area Orthodox clergy will be leading an intercessory prayer service – moljebens, it’s called – for victims of abortion, their parents, clinic workers and all others involved in crisis pregnancies. The prayers will be offered outside the abortion center on Sunday afternoons during the campaign.

Anchorage, Alaska
It’s always good to have a goal, and the 40 Days for Life team in Anchorage has one.

“One near-term goal,” said Jon, the local coordinator, “is to see this facility close ... and the destruction of innocent life end at this location.”

The volunteers are encouraged because there was once another abortion center in Anchorage, not far from the Planned Parenthood facility where they’ll be praying. That other abortion business closed four years ago.

Our Lord answered that prayer then ... and will do so again here,” Jon said.

Of course, there are other prayer intentions as well. The volunteers know that lives have been saved and many hearts changed due to the prayerful, loving presence outside Planned Parenthood.

“Once again,” Jon said, “we humbly place ourselves in our Father’s hands to use us for life … however events unfold each day.”

Court Bans Church Billboards But Allows Political Billboards

Chaplain Gordon James Klingenschmitt, PhD, Praying In Jesus Name: Churches cannot advertise the gospel on large billboards, says a court that ignored the First Amendment, and allowed non-religious messages on large billboards.

"The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco decided a Freedom of Speech case using subjective legislative motive rather than the facts in the case, Liberty Counsel appealed to the Supreme Court in an amicus brief last week.

"Later this year, the Supreme Court will hear Reed. v. Town of Gilbert, a First Amendment challenge from Good News Community Church, which was denied the right to advertise its church like other businesses or political candidates.

"In deciding the case, the Ninth Circuit based its opinion on the fact that the town of Gilbert, outside of Phoenix, did not have an 'illicit motive' or a desire 'to suppress certain ideas' when it placed tighter restrictions on church signs than on business or political signs.

"This case is far-reaching," said Mat Staver, Founder and Chairman of Liberty Counsel. "Our Bill of Rights is on the line. In the past, the courts have repeatedly denied legislative motive when validating law. In other words, it doesn’t matter whether the legislators meant to restrict freedom of speech; the fact is they restricted freedom of speech. That fact, not their pure or impure motives, is all that is in question.

Dr. Klingenschmitt commented, "Is anybody surprised the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals is hostile to freedom of religious speech and press?  Let's pray the Supreme Court takes this case, or it will remain bad legal precedent restricting Church ads in the entire Western U.S."

DAY 4: "Something Needs To Be Done" - 40 Days for Life

by Shawn Carney, 40 Days for Life: We all love hearing about babies being saved from abortion at the last moment. But the reality is that not all stories have happy endings.

Abortion facilities are places of darkness and can sometimes crush what little hope a woman may have while walking inside. They survive on despair.

One man that you'll hear about today reacted to this reality by saying, “Something needs to be done about abortion.”

Well, something is being done — and you can be part of the solution!

Baltimore, Maryland
“A well-groomed gentleman approached us on the sidewalk,” said Jody, the coordinator of the 40 Days for Life campaign in the Fullerton area of Baltimore.

“I used to be for abortion. But not anymore,” he blurted out. “I was for abortion until my granddaughter had one.

There was pain in his eyes, and a searching look. He had more to say. “Then she got pregnant again and the baby died. It was really hard. Something needs to be done about abortion.

This grandfather wasn't quite finished. “And then we found out that our daughter had an abortion. She had told her mother she needed $500 for something. We gave it to her. Thirty years later we found out that she aborted her son.”

His head sagged for a moment. “I would have had a grandson.”

“We shared information about the healing ministry of Rachel’s Vineyard and he took it gratefully,” Jody said. “Please pray for this gentleman.”

Houston, Texas
Prayer volunteers often speak about the women walking into the abortion centers – but there’s less said about the women walking out. Perhaps that’s because it’s often hard to describe that scene. It can be gut-wrenching.

One sidewalk counselor reported that a woman was seen leaving Houston's Planned Parenthood abortion mega-center. She was in the parking lot, obviously sick and in pain after an abortion. The volunteer kept waiting for Planned Parenthood to send someone out to check on her. But that never happened.

“We have seen this sort of thing happen frequently at Planned Parenthood,” said one of the Houston volunteers. “They don't seem to be too concerned with their clients’ welfare after they have paid and had the abortion.”

Charlotte, North Carolina
Vigil participants in Charlotte were able to speak briefly with a young woman on her way into the abortion center, but were unable to convince her to cancel her appointment.

They watched as she left the building some time later and sat alone in her car for about ten minutes. But as she drove out, she opened her car window and wanted to talk.

“She told me that she had taken the abortion pill and was directed by the abortionist to take the second pill tomorrow,” said one of the volunteers. “But she confessed that she was having second thoughts.”

But was it too late to do anything? The prayer team hopes that it is not. They gave this frightened young woman the phone number of a doctor who might be able to help, since she had not taken the second pill.

“Please keep her in your prayers,” the volunteer said. “And if you are able, please come and pray during these 40 Days for Life.”

DAY 3: Lives Saved On Day 1 - 40 Days for Life

by Shawn Carney, 40 Days for Life: Praying and being there in solidarity with the babies at risk of losing their lives is always well-spent time. Their lives may be cut short … but we can honor them by representing Christ’s love for them on the sidewalk.

On Tuesday, there were babies who were scheduled to be aborted. On Wednesday — the day this 40 Days Life campaign started — those children were saved from abortion. These early stories show that prayer indeed bears fruit — fruit that only the Holy Spirit can provide.

Here are a few examples.

Tempe, Arizona
“It has begun,” wrote Lisa in Tempe. “One said yes. And then another one said yes – to life! Day 1 … and the Lord provided two saves!”

A young woman told volunteers, “I came to this Planned Parenthood three times, and you were not here.” This time, however, there were many people praying . . . and she said “yes” to life.

The vigil participants met later with another woman, who was openly troubled – there was a steady stream of tears. But after a series of conversations, she also had a change of heart and left Planned Parenthood.

“The Holy Spirit provided the necessary words to comfort and counsel the doubtful,” Lisa said. “Imagine how much God will provide when we all take one hour a week to pray, fast and stand witness for our brothers and sisters.”

Lisa said it’s important to look at the individual with the eyes of Christ and know that they are in His hands. “We are the vessels that God has provided. Love one person at a time – just one – and the Lord will provide.”
Flint, Michigan
On Wednesday of last week, there were many cars outside the abortion center in Flint. On Wednesday of this week – Day 1 of the 40 Days for Life campaign – it was a totally different picture (which you can see at the top of this post) … one that vigil participants were not expecting.

“Zero client cars, one worker car,” said Tina, the local campaign leader. “The prayer volunteers ahead of me said it was empty for them also.”

One man walked up, went in and came out rather quickly. He explained that he was looking for another office in the area. “With only an address above the abortion center entrance,” Tina explained, “the public does not know what happens behind those doors.”

She did note that even if there’s not much going on inside the abortion business, there’s always a chance you will be tested.

While she was holding a “pray to end abortion” sign, a woman drove by and yelled at her. “Pray to end you being out here!” she screamed as she sped off. But the woman soon returned with another outburst: “Get a job!”

“My Bible was already in hand,” Tina said, “so I turned to the Beatitudes and continued praying with scripture. I cannot emphasize how important it is that you keep your cool when things like this happen.”

Margaret Sanger and the Racist History of Planned Parenthood (Black Genocide)

“We do not want word to get out that we want to exterminate the Negro population.” ~ Margaret Sanger, founder of Planned Parenthood

Number 1 Killer of African-Americans
by PapaGiorgio, Religion and Politics: Before we start this topic, I must say that this treatise is not taking into account the emotional strain that many women encounter before and after an abortion. This is a political, philosophical, and historical dealing with the founding of Planned Parenthood, specifically, Margaret Sanger. I would be remiss and foolish however not to think once this hits “cyber-space” that a confused or hurting young woman might happen to come across this blog. To her I wish to leave behind some links where she can get information or counseling whether in question to “should I get an abortion,” or to look for help for the emotional pain of losing a child to choice. So here are some links to organizations that will help either before or after this “choice” is made:

After Abortion – This is the web’s most complete source of information on the aftereffects of abortion and post-abortion healing. We have over 500 hundred links to thousands of printed pages of original research, testimonies, articles, and resources. Most of these are drawn from articles and books published by the Elliot Institute, one of the nation’s leading authorities on post-abortion issues.

Crisis Pregnancy Center – The mission of the CPC is to minister to women. Our ministry focuses on the woman and her needs, offering her acceptance, compassion, accurate information and assistance in bringing her baby to term. We are here to help our clients make an informed decision so that they will, hopefully, choose an alternative to abortion.

The CPC does not refer a client for abortion. (The client is informed of this on the Request for Services form that she signs when she first comes into the center.) We never try to intimidate or control clients. We do not show bloody videos or use scare tactics. Our staff is trained to offer documented information/education and to provide the services offered by the CPC.

There is a myth to the effect that pro-life people care only about the baby and not the woman. If the community views our message as focusing only on the baby, clients will not feel safe about coming to the CPC and talking, especially if they are considering an abortion or have already experienced one. Our goal is to break down that myth by educating the community to know that our client is the woman. We realize that in order to help a child, we must help the child’s mother. She is the only one who can nourish and care for her pre-born child. When we place our focus on helping the woman, she becomes able to reject the ideology that frames the abortion issue in terms of mother versus child. When we place our focus on loving the woman, God can touch her with hope and empower her to choose life.

The final decision about abortion belongs to the client; however, we want our client to know that our door is always open to her. The client needs to know that she can return to the Center in the future even if she should choose to abort. We are here to help her should she experience regret and need help with Post Abortion Stress.

For the guysNational Fatherhood Initiative – To improve the well-being of children by increasing the proportion of children growing up with an involved, responsible, and committed father.
. . . I want to finally expand a bit on what I always reference. That is, the original goals of Planned Parenthood Founder, Margaret Sanger, and the provable continuation of this goal by the statistics of actual abortions and sterilizations. Her saying that “[w]e don’t want the word out that we want to exterminate the Negro population” is often times not enough to convince the liberal Democrats that they are truly not for the minority person outside of their political agenda. What was Planned Parenthoods goals? Did they have aims and agendas they wished to complete? Is Planned Parenthood following in those footsteps today? If so, would we be able to tell by looking at their outcomes based on their stated goals?
Many of the current and past presidents of the organization have mentioned that they are following in the footsteps of their founder, following the aims and goals of Margaret Sanger, their liberal heroin and founder. To make this point (and others), I will rely on two well written books, the first is Liberal Fascism: The Secret History of the American Left, From Mussolini to the Politics of Change, by Jonah Goldberg. I think – however – before I mention the next book, I should allow the reader a chance to have that seemingly self-refuting term (“liberal fascism”) explained and defined. Jonah Goldberg documents that the term was the invention of H.G. Wells:

The introduction of a novel term like “liberal fascism” obviously requires an explanation. Many critics will undoubtedly regard it as a crass oxymoron. Actually, however, I am not the first to use the term. That honor falls to H. G. Wells, one of the greatest influences on the progressive mind in the twentieth century (and, it turns out, the inspiration for Huxley’s Brave New World). Nor did Wells coin the phrase as an indictment, but as a badge of honor. Progressives must become “liberal fascists” and “enlightened Nazis,” he told the Young Liberals at Oxford in a speech in July 1932. Wells was a leading voice in what I have called the fascist moment, when many Western elites were eager to replace Church and Crown with slide rules and industrial armies.aIt will be noted more in-depth later, but I must now point out that Margaret Sanger was the mistress to H.G. Wells. There was no conflict of ideals betwixt these two “enlightened Nazis.” The other book is just an expose of Planned Parenthood (unlike Jonah Goldberg’s book which deals with a panoply of topics), it is entitled Grand Illusions: The Legacy of Planned Parenthood, by George Grant. ...

A third book that is worth a mention is by Edwin Black, entitled, War Against the Weak: Eugenics and America’s Campaign to Create a Master Race. A thick history of how the eugenic movement that spurned the Third Reich in their “master race” found its scientific basis in the American Left. The theological roots for it are not the topic here, but they are rooted in the occultism found in Madam Blavatsky’s book The Secret Doctrine.

A third book that is worth a mention is by Edwin Black, entitled, War Against the Weak: Eugenics and America’s Campaign to Create a Master Race. A thick history of how the eugenic movement that spurned the Third Reich in their “master race” found its scientific basis in the American Left. . . .

. . . Margaret Sanger, whose American Birth Control League became Planned Parenthood, was the founding mother of the birth control movement. She is today considered a liberal saint, a founder of modern feminism, and one of the leading lights of the progressive pantheon. Gloria Feldt of Planned Parenthood proclaims, “I stand by Margaret Sanger’s side,” leading “the organization that carries on Sanger’s legacy.” Planned Parenthood’s first black president, Faye Wattleton—Ms. magazine’s Woman of the Year in 1989—said that she was “proud” to be “walking in the footsteps of Margaret Sanger.”

. . . Sanger was an ardent, self-confessed eugenicist, and she would turn her… birth control organizations into a tool for eugenics, which advocated for mass sterilization of so-called defectives, mass incarceration of the unfit and draconian immigration restrictions. Like other staunch eugenicists, Sanger vigorously opposed charitable efforts to uplift the downtrodden and deprived, and argued extensively that it was better that the cold and hungry be left without help, so that the eugenically superior strains could multiply without competition from “the unfit.” She repeatedly referred to the lower classes and the unfit as “human waste” not worthy of assistance, and proudly quoted the extreme eugenic view that human “weeds” should be “exterminated.” Moreover, for both political and genuine ideological reasons, Sanger associated closely with some of America’s most fanatical eugenic racists. Both through her publication, Birth Control Review, and her public oratory, Sanger helped legitimize and widen the appeal of eugenic pseudoscience. (War Against the Weak, p. 127)

. . . From Sanger’s book, The Pivot of Civilization:

Even if we accept organized charity at its own valuation, and grant it does the best it can, it is exposed to a more profound criticism. It reveals a fundamental and irremediable defect. Its very success, its very efficiency, its very necessity to the social order are the most unanswerable indictment. Organized charity is the symptom of a malignant social disease. Those vast, complex, interrelated organizations aiming to control and to diminish the spread of misery and destitution and all the menacing evils that spring out of this sinisterly fertile soil, are the surest sign that our civilization has bred, is breeding, and is perpetuating constantly increasing numbers of defectives, delinquents, and dependents. My criticism, therefore, is not directed at the failure of philanthropy, but rather at its success. These dangers are inherent in the very idea of humanitarianism and altruism, dangers which have today produced their full harvest of human waste.”

. . . The most serious charge that can be brought against modern benevolence is that it encourages the perpetuation of defectives, delinquents, and dependents. These are the most dangerous elements in the world community, the most devastating curse on human progress and expression. Philanthropy is a gesture characteristic of modernf business lavishing upon the unfit the profits extorted from the community at large. Looked at impartially, this compensatory generosity is in its final effect probably more dangerous, more dysgenic, more blighting than the initial practice of profiteering.”
You may be asking how someone could think in terms like the above? Well, the simple answer is, radicalism. . . . George Grant runs down a quick list of whom Margaret “hung” with:Her bed became a veritable meeting place for the Fabian (socialist) upper crust: H.G. Wells, George Bernard Shaw, Arnold Bennett, Arbthnot Lane, and Norman Haire. And of course, it was then that she began her unusual and temptuouse affaire with Havelock Ellis…. virtually all of her Socialist friends, lovers, and comrades were committed Eugenicists as well—from the followers of Lenin in Revolutionary Socialism, like H. G. Wells, George Bernard Shaw, and Julius Hammer,” to the followers of Hitler in National Socialism, like Ernest Rudin, Leon Whitney, and Harry Laughlin.” But it wasn’t simply sentiment or politics that drew Margaret into the Eugenic fold. She was thoroughly convinced that the “inferior races” were in fact “human weeds” and a “menace to civilization.” . . . Sanger coined the term, “More children from the fit, less from the unfit,” used by the Third Reich. Margaret Sanger, the founder of Planned Parenthood, coined the slogan “More children from the fit, less from the unfit.” In language that many of her contemporary admirers would probably like to forget, she described blacks and Eastern European immigrants as “a menace to civilization” and “human weeds.” Concerned that American blacks might protest Planned Parenthood’s special “Negro Project” aimed at promoting sterilization, Sanger wrote to an associate, “We do not want word to get out that we want to exterminate the Negro population.” . . .

. . . She sought to ban fit. “More children from the fit, less from the unfit—that is the chief issue of birth control,” she frankly wrote in her 1922 book The Pivot of Civilization. (The book featured an introduction by Wells, in which he proclaimed, “We want fewer and better children … and we cannot make the social life and the world-peace we are determined to make, with the ill-bred, ill-trained swarms of inferior citizens that you inflict on us.” Two civilizations were at war: that of progress and that which sought a world “swamped by an indiscriminate torrent of progeny.”)

A fair-minded person cannot read Sanger’s books, articles, and pamphlets today without finding similarities not only to Nazi eugenics but to the dark dystopias of the feminist imagination found in such allegories as Margaret Atwood’s Handmaid’s Tale.” As editor of the Birth Control Review, Sanger regularly published the sort of hard racism we normally associate with Goebbels or Himmler. Indeed, after she resigned as editor, the Birth Control Review ran articles by people who worked for Goebbels and Himmler. For example, when the Nazi eugenics program was first getting wide attention, the Birth Control Review was quick to cast the Nazis in a positive light, giving over its pages for an article titled “Eugenic Sterilization: An Urgent Need,” by Ernst Rudin, Hitler’s director of sterilization and a founder of the Nazi Society for Racial Hygiene. In 1926 Sanger proudly gave a speech to a KKK rally in Silver Lake, New Jersey.

One of Sanger’s closest friends and influential colleagues was the white supremacist Lothrop Stoddard, author of The Rising Tide of Color Against White World-Supremacy. In the book he offered his solution for the threat posed by the darker races: “Just as we isolate bacterial invasions, and starve out the bacteria, by limiting the area and amount of their food supply, so we can compel an inferior race to remain in its native habitat.”When the book came out, Sanger was sufficiently impressed to invite him to join the board of directors of the American Birth Control League.

Sanger’s genius was to advance Ross’s campaign for social control by hitching the racist-eugenic campaign to sexual pleasure and female liberation. In her “Code to Stop Overproduction of Children,” published in 1934,. she decreed that “no woman shall have a legal right to bear a child without a permit … no permit shall be valid for more than one child. But Sanger couched this fascistic agenda in the argument that “liberated” women wouldn’t mind such measures because they don’t really want large families in the first place. In a trope that would be echoed by later feminists such as Betty Friedan, she argued that motherhood itself was a socially imposed constraint on the liberty of women. It was a form of what Marxists called false consciousness to want a large family.

Sanger believed—prophetically enough—that if women conceived of sex as first and foremost a pleasurable experience rather than a procreative act, they would embrace birth control as a necessary tool for their own personal gratification. She brilliantly used the language of liberation to convince women they weren’t going along with a collectivist scheme but were in fact “speaking truth to power,” as it were.” This was the identical trick the Nazis pulled off. They took a radical Nietzschean doctrine of individual will and made it into a trendy dogma of middle-class conformity. This trick remains the core of much faddish “individualism” among rebellious conformists on the American cultural left today. Nonetheless, Sanger’s analysis was surely correct, and led directly to the widespread feminist association of sex with political rebellion. Sanger in effect “bought off” women (and grateful men) by offering tolerance for promiscuity in return for compliance with her eugenic schemes.

In 1939 Sanger created the previously mentioned “Negro Project,” which aimed to get blacks to adopt birth control. Through the Birth Control Federation, she hired black ministers (including the Reverend Adam Clayton Powell Sr.), doctors, and other leaders to help pare down the supposedly surplus black population. The project’s racist intent is beyond doubt. “The mass of significant Negroes,” read the project’s report, “still breed carelessly and disastrously, with the result that the increase among Negroes … is [in] that portion of the population least intelligent and fit.” Sanger’s intent is shocking today, but she recognized its extreme radicalism even then. “We do not want word to go out,” she wrote to a colleague, “that we want to exterminate the Negro population, and the minister is the man who can straighten out that idea if it ever occurs to any of their more rebellious members.” . . .

DAY 2: From Madison to Dallas to Nigeria - 40 Days for Life

by Shawn Carney, 40 Days for Life:: Right now ... 40 Days for Life campaigns are happening in 297 cities in 13 countries. Which one is closest to you? Find out here.

Right now … 40 Days for Life campaigns are happening in 297 cities in 13 countries. Which one is closest to YOU?

Steve Karlen, our North American outreach coordinator, and I spoke at the Madison, Wisconsin campaign kick off. David Bereit, our national director, talked in Dallas and Austin. And our international outreach coordinator, Robert Colquhoun, visited Nigeria.

We’re on the road … and on the radio. I had an opportunity to share the word about 40 Days for Life with Matt Swaim on the Son Rise Morning Show, which is carried on many radio stations across the United States via the EWTN network. Here’s a link to a short clip from that interview.

While we can’t cover every location … you can take part in your local campaign and see God’s hand at work. Here are a few early examples.

St. Cloud, Minnesota
“40 Days for Life is really growing in St. Cloud,” said Judy, the local coordinator. These past days and weeks, Judy and her team were out in their community promoting their campaign – and it’s paying off.

At one event, a number of volunteers enthusiastically signed up. “Many of the ladies attending this event already do vigil with us,” she said, “and helped us encourage and explain 40 Days for Life to others.”

Judy also noted a homeschooling mom and her five daughters (they’re in the picture above), who are involved in a spiritual adoption project. The idea is to pray for a baby who is in danger of abortion.

Participants are encouraged to name their babies. The girls helped make beaded bracelets with the names of their adopted baby. The bracelets are a reminder to pray for the babies every day.

“We know this day brought many individual daily prayers for an end to abortion in this very personal, individual way,” she said.

Birmingham, England
Birmingham’s seventh 40 Days for Life campaign is under way – but this is one of many cities where prayerful vigils continue after Day 40. “Some of our volunteers are so enthusiastic they keep on coming between campaigns,” said Isabel, the local coordinator.

At one time, the abortion facility had been open seven days a week. Now it has cut back to four days a week – the prayer is indeed making a difference.

Isabel said she recently learned of a woman who had become pregnant last year. “It was an unexpected event, as the mother’s other children were growing up fast. She discussed it with her husband and they decided on abortion. “

They scheduled the abortion at the Marie Stopes facility where the 40 Days for Life vigil is held.

“Fortunately it was October,” Isabel said. “And as they drove up the street they saw people praying as part of last year’s autumn 40 Days for Life campaign. This prompted them to pull the car over and have another talk together. The result is they now have a lovely new baby they wouldn’t swap for the world.”

Isabel said she gets lots of reports of cars turning around and driving away without anyone getting out. “It’s great to hear the bigger story of one such event.”

Las Vegas School District Considers Teaching 5-Year-Olds About Masturbation We live in a hyper-sexualized society where so-called experts think it wiser to push sex on younger and younger children. DAY 1 - Fall 2014 - 40 Days For Life

by Shawn Carney, 40 Days for Life: This is it!
Ten years ago, the first-ever 40 Days for Life campaign kicked off in College Station, Texas. Since then, God has clearly shown what He can do when we pray, fast ... and stand vigil:
  • Lives are saved
  • Hearts are changed
  • Abortion facilities close
Will you join His efforts over the next 40 days ... in 297 cities in 13 countries?

40 Days for Life started in Texas ... but abortion is a global crisis. Many courageous and faithful volunteers will be meeting this enormous challenge with prayer and peaceful vigil — starting today — in these countries:
  • United States
  • Canada
  • Australia
  • Brazil
  • Croatia
  • England
  • Ghana
  • Latvia
  • Mexico
  • Nigeria
  • South Africa
  • Spain
  • Wales
To see the full list – and to sign up for the vigil location nearest you – go to:

With that many locations, there’s going to be a lot of travel involved for the 40 Days for Life headquarters team. Without question, the man who will be logging the most miles over the next 40 days is Robert Colquhoun, our international outreach director.

Robert brought 40 Days for Life to his home country of England in 2010 ... and has since helped the mission spread far and wide.

Robert visited with the 40 Days for Life leaders in Ghana this week. Please keep the people of this African nation in your prayers.

“We spoke to the youth group at a Presbyterian church on Sunday morning,” Robert said, “and we also did a rally in one of the poorest parts of Accra. Edward, the local leader, spoke passionately about abortion for both talks.”

Robert said abortion is, for the most part, illegal in Ghana. But they’re done anyway – slightly undercover. “A large number of illegal abortions are done with chemicals under the scenes and in secrecy,” he said, “with considerable dangers attached.”

Efforts in Croatia continue to grow. After a very successful initial campaign in Zagreb, the Croatian capital is joined by four other cities for this campaign. The response has been most favorable. The Croatian team had some great stories to share from that first campaign, and no doubt will continue to make a difference.

But you don’t have to go to Ghana or Croatia to pray!

There may be a campaign in your hometown. You can pray wherever you are, of course, but if there’s a vigil near you, prayer on the sidewalk in front of the abortion center sends a powerful message – to the women seeking abortion, to the people on the facility’s staff ... and to your community.

Here’s the link to find your local 40 Days for Life vigil.

CitizenLink Report: Motivating Pro-Family Voters

by CitizenLink Team: We’ve discovered something that motivates pro-family voters to get out to vote.

Many people find it difficult to get excited about a mid-term election. And many who value life, marriage and religious freedom fail to show up in November. That’s unfortunate, because this election year offers an unusual opportunity to shift the balance of power in the Senate.

CitizenLink has found what it takes to get people to re-engage and out to vote. John Paulton is watching over our massive election year effort. In the CitizenLink Report, he shares what we’ve learned. He also offers encouragement for you to get involved this year.

The Abortion Industry Isn't Ready For This!

The next 40 Days for Life campaign starts tomorrow ... and we already have great news!
But first ... have you found the closest 40 Days for Life vigil yet?
Look for your location at: http://40daysforlife.com/browse-campaigns/

Now ... here's the incredible news!
Las Cruces, New Mexico

A new abortion center was scheduled to open in Las Cruces, New Mexico on Monday of last week. But after much effort ... a newly-organized 40 Days for Life team responded ...
... and the abortion business did not open!
When Texas laws forced abortion businesses to close, a chain that ran a facility in El Paso thought they could outsmart the strict new safety regulations by setting up shop in adjacent New Mexico.
As word started to spread, Christians in Las Cruces quickly contacted 40 Days for Life leaders in El Paso ... and the 40 Days for Life headquarters team. Their message was simple:
"We must hold a 40 Days for Life vigil in Las Cruces!"
When they learned the abortion business would open on September 15, they knew they couldn't wait until September 24 to start praying. They held a rally the night before the planned opening ... and started a vigil the next day.
“The kickoff on Sunday evening had a turnout of well over 200 people, many of whom had just learned about both 40 Days for Life as well as the proposed abortion facility that morning at their church services,” said Mark in Las Cruces.
“We have had an excellent response from people signing up for the prayer vigil, overwhelmingly positive response from the community, and multiple favorable media stories,” he said.

The next morning, volunteers were there to pray that Las Cruces would remain abortion-free.

And the abortion center’s “grand opening”?

Not so grand. It never happened!!!

“They have delayed their opening without comment due to sudden logistical issues,” Mark said. “We are still there praying every day from 6 am to 10 pm that their ‘logistical issues’ are permanent.”
Las Cruces will be joined in that prayer by volunteers in 296 other cities around the world for 40 Days for Life … from Wednesday, September 24 to Sunday, November 2.

To find the campaign nearest you, go to: http://40daysforlife.com/browse-campaigns

There's a sense of urgency in Las Cruces that we all need ... as the abortion industry's presence in far too many local communities results in the deaths of countless numbers of innocent human beings.

Lives are at risk today.  Pray for courage ... and pray with urgency. Your prayerful presence outside the abortion center is needed ...
... because the need for Christ's love and mercy is urgent.
If the news from Las Cruces is any indication of what's to come ... I can't wait for this campaign to start!
