After Mom’s Baby Cut Out of Her Womb, Colorado Democrats Vote Against Unborn Victims Bill

The Colorado state Senate today passed a bill that would provide justice for unborn children who are killed or injured in violent crimes against their mother. The chamber approved the bill on an 18-17 vote with every Republican supporting the bill and every single Democrat in the Colorado Senate saying that unborn children are not victims of violent crimes and do not deserve justice. Childrens' Response: “Why Would I Hurt [A Baby]? They Are Little.”

Brian Fischer, Online for Life: Would you ever hurt a baby?” That’s just one of the many simple yet poignant questions that several children answer in Online for Life’s newly produced video, Deliver us from Abortion.

This short video, released today by Online for Life, features a series of interviews in which several young children answer basic questions about life, the unborn and our role in protecting those weaker than us.

"Why would I hurt [a baby]?" one of the children in the video answers. "They are little.

This video helps pull away the curtain on societal pressure and cultural indoctrination revealing the human instinct to protect those who are smaller, weaker and more dependent than us.

As one of my fellow Online for Life employee puts it: “The answers of the children indicate the purest thought – that killing a child at any stage of life, in or out of the womb, is wrong.”

The short video was produced to support the recent release of my latest book, Deliver Us from Abortion: Awakening the Church to End the Killing of America’s Children.

For too long the church’s silence regarding America’s abortion holocaust has been deafening. Our hope is that the truths spoken from “from the lips of children [Matthew 21:16]” in this video will compel those who have the power to act, to act.

Jennifer Marshall, VP For the Institute for Family, Community, and Opportunity Speaks Outside Supreme Court

Jennifer Marshall
ARRA News Service: - by Jennifer Marshall: As the Supreme Court prepares to hear oral arguments in cases involving the freedom of states to make marriage policy, thousands gathered Saturday on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., for the third annual March for Marriage.

The event’s largest crowd to date called on the Court to respect the voice of the American people, urging the justices not to impose a redefinition of marriage on the entire country.

More than 50 million Americans have voted for laws affirming the definition of marriage as one man and one woman (representing more than 60 percent of those voting on the matter). But courts have not respected the constitutional authority of the American people and our elected representatives to make marriage policy.

Only 11 states have redefined marriage democratically. In the 37 states that currently recognize same-sex marriage, 26 have been forced to do so by courts.

The diverse crowd from across the nation at the March for Marriage made its voice heard loud and clear this weekend. Now the action moves to the Supreme Court, as it considers whether the American people will be free to make marriage policy recognizing marriage as being between one man and one woman.

Here’s a clip of my remarks to the marchers gathered on Saturday, and the full text:
Some of you came a long way to stand for marriage here in our nation’s capital—from as far as California and Michigan and South Carolina. Many of you made sacrifices to be here.

You know that standing for marriage can come with a cost.

Aaron and Melissa Klein know it too. Just yesterday Aaron and Melissa learned that for them, the cost of standing for marriage may add up to $135,000 in fines.

Why? Simply because they declined to create a wedding cake for a same-sex ceremony. And that fine is on top of having already lost their bakery because of the backlash against their decision to stand by their convictions.

For Barronelle Stutzman, a 70-year-old grandmother in Washington state, the cost of standing for marriage may be the loss of everything she owns. She’s being sued personally and professionally for declining to design the floral arrangements for a same-sex wedding.

For Kelvin Cochran, the cost of standing for marriage was the loss of his job as the fire chief of the city of Atlanta.

This is not right. And your presence here today tells our nation’s leaders that it is not right.

Marriage existed before this government, and before any government. Marriage brings together the two halves of humanity, for the future of humanity.

No Court can undo that.

Millions of Americans in dozens of states voted to have their laws reflect the reality that marriage is the union of a man and a woman.

The Supreme Court should not disregard their votes.

We, the people, should be free to make marriage policy.

The Supreme Court should not take that freedom away.

Thank you for coming to Washington to make your voices heard!

Democrat Chair Goes Nuclear Over Abortion Waiting Period, OK With Aborting 7-Pound Baby

I am convinced if a bill was proposed that said abortion clinics in Florida must have an actual address (as opposed to a PO Box), Florida Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz would indignantly announce that it is a “dangerous step toward the ultimate goal sought by some Republicans: banning all abortions,” as she did today in explaining her opposition to a 24-hour waiting period bill.

Deja Vu: Another Navy Chaplain Censored: ‘Don’t Pray In The Name of Jesus’

Chaplain Gordon James Klingenschmitt, PhD, Praying In Jesus Name: Fox Newsexposes more about the abuse sufffered by Navy Chaplain Wes Modder.

"A Navy chaplain who faces the end of a stellar 19-year career because of his faith-based views on marriage and human sexuality was told by a base commander to refrain from offering a prayer in the name of Jesus, according to attorneys representing the chaplain.

"That allegation was tucked away in an 18-page letter written to the commander of Navy Region Southeast by Liberty Institute attorneys representing Chaplain Wesley Modder. Liberty Institute is a law firm that specializes in religious liberty cases."

"The letter included the results of Liberty Institute’s investigation of allegations levied against the chaplain by Captain John Fahs.

"Just a few months earlier, Modder’s commander had called him the 'best of the best” and a consummate professional leader.' But now he’s on the verge of being kicked out of the military.

"After our investigation, it is clear that the facts and law are on Chaplain Modder’s side," Liberty Institute attorney Michael Berry said. "He has done nothing more than provide ministerial services in accordance with the precepts of his faith – which is completely consistent with Navy rules and federal law."

"And if the Navy silences chaplains – they could certainly silence sailors.

"If the Navy can remove a chaplain who expresses his religious beliefs, then service members who share those beliefs will believe that they, too, are unwelcome in the Navy," Liberty Institute wrote.

I'm fuming with anger over how this outstanding Chaplain is being mistreated. It's time for Congress to intervene and set punishments, not for Chaplains who pray, but for commanders who censor chaplains' prayers, or punish them for sincere acts of religious expression.

Let's petition Congress to restore Chaplains' right to pray "in Jesus' name."

I talked to a leading Congressman who has written the Navy brass, to defend Chaplain Wes Modder, under fire for his faith in Jesus Christ.

"A decorated Assemblies of God Navy chaplain who spent several years counseling elite Navy SEALs could be kicked out of the military for allegations that he [quoted the Bible to] sailors regarding homosexuality and premarital sex," reports the National Catholic Register.

"Navy officials accuse Lt. Cmdr. Wesley Modder of being 'intolerant' and 'unable to function in the diverse and pluralistic environment' of his assignment at the Navy Nuclear Power Training Command in South Carolina.

"Modder’s attorney, Mike Berry, told the Register that federal law, military regulations and Navy policy protect service members’ rights of conscience and religious freedom. Berry said the law 'is very clear that service members do not forfeit their First Amendment rights of religious freedom.'"

But Congress is taking action.

"Modder’s case has prompted more than 100,000 people to sign a petition calling on the Navy not to discipline him. Meanwhile, several members of Congress have expressed their support for Modder, a former U.S. Marine who served in Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm in 1991. He has served as a Navy chaplain for 15 years.

"In a March 30 letter to Navy Secretary and Rear Admiral Margaret Kibben, the chief of Navy chaplains, the congressional members ask the Navy to ensure that all investigation be conducted 'in accord with laws protecting a chaplain’s right to express and conduct himself according to his religious beliefs.'

"Wrote the congressional members: 'Military chaplains fill a crucial religious need that exists uniquely in the realm of military service — a need that is imperative to the well-being and operational readiness of the troops.'"

We need another 100,000 fax petitions delivered to Congress. We need to bury the Navy Brass in public outcry and DC in petition paper, so Congress holds them accountable, and they get the message. They hate the Constitution? Fire them all, and restore this Chaplain's good name and religious freedom.

Hillary to Churches — Change on Abortion

by Bill Donohue, Catholics League: It was not surprising that Hillary Clinton, who strongly opposes a ban on partial-birth abortion, would tell her feminist audience (at the Women in the World Summit in New York City) that she supports Planned Parenthood. What was surprising was her comment on the need to change religious beliefs on abortion. Here is what she said:
"Yes, we've cut the maternal mortality rate in half, but far too many women are still denied critical access to reproductive health [read: abortion] and safe childbirth. All the laws we've passed don't count for much if they're not enforced. Rights have to exist in practice, not just on paper. Laws have to be backed up with resources, and political will and deep-seated cultural codes, religious beliefs, and structural biases have to be changed." In other words, Hillary has a problem with the Catholic Church's teachings on abortion — they must be changed.

Never before have we seen a presidential candidate be this bold about directly confronting the Catholic Church's teachings on abortion. It's time for Hillary to take the next step and tell us exactly what she plans to do about delivering on her pledge. Not only would practicing Catholics like to know, so would Evangelicals, Orthodox Jews, Muslims, and all those who value life from conception to natural death.

Small Nations Fight Back Over UN Harassment To Establish Abortion and Homosexuality Rights

Ambassadors Accuse UN Agency Of Harassment and Exerting Undue Influence

Ambassador Usman Sarki of Nigeria
by Stefano Gennarini, Center for Family and Human Rights (C-Fam): In a rare case of backroom pressure spilling onto the floor of a UN meeting, a delegate from the Pacific island of Nauru angrily scolded the UN Population Fund for “harassing” their government and “maligning” their UN delegation.

“Does UNFPA think they can do this because Nauru is the smallest member state?”

Dr. Babatunde Osotimehin answered in kind at the close of the 48th session of the UN Commission on Population and Development last Friday. The head of the UN Population Fund (UNFPA) with a $1 billion annual budget angrily accused countries that harbor concerns with sexual and reproductive health policies, or see them as gateways to sexual rights and abortion, of not being “tolerant.”

After two weeks of negotiations the commission could not reach an agreement on how such policies should be integrated in a new UN development scheme, the main theme of this year’s commission.

The Belgian Chair pulled the plug on a resolution rather than accommodate the remaining concerns with the compromise draft she prepared.

African and other delegations wanted to omit or qualify terms like “comprehensive sexuality education,” and “sexual and reproductive health and reproductive rights” in the draft document—terms associated with social acceptance of homosexuality, sexual rights for children, and abortion.

Ambassador Usman Sarki of Nigeria delivered a biting message on behalf of the Africans. He criticized governments and activists that use UN development work to promote controversial social issues.

“We came to the meeting with an open mind,” Sarki said, objecting that from the outset they had to deal with drafts “replete with controversial issues that have in the past not only proved difficult to deal with but are also extremely divisive in nature.”

Sarki urged countries not to deviate from “universally agreed human rights” — a phrase that excludes homosexual rights and abortion which are not established in international law.

The resoluteness of the Africans was cemented by a recent UN report exposing the desire of donor countries to use the new development agenda to promote homosexuality and abortion.

Sarki also lamented attempts to manipulate negotiations by UN bureaucrats exerting influence on officials in capitols and at UN headquarters. UN negotiations should be “free from all undue influence, pressure, and coercion,” he said.

African delegates privately complained about unprecedented pressure from UNFPA in their nations’ capitals and in New York, especially to include “comprehensive education on human sexuality” (CSE) in the agreement, which promotes sexual activity to children as young as 5.

A delegate from El Salvador, who led the negotiations, was especially disappointed. He apportioned blame mostly on those who sought to “impose” their will in UN negotiations and called for respect for different positions. At the same time, he chided countries “holding other people back” on expanding the notions of sexual and reproductive health.

John Wilmoth, the chief UN demographer, said at the close of the meeting that he was “shell shocked.”

Normally, countries with objections to one or a few terms will adopt a resolution but make reservations clarifying their position. This time, Africans wanted to delete and qualify the controversial terms.

Sarki explained that the failure to reach an agreement was not a failure at all, but a positive development. “Member states have resisted the imposition of unhelpful ideas and concepts on all the membership.”

March for Marriage Highlights Supreme Court Case

by CitizenLink Team: Millions of people in the U.S. support marriage. That will be the message this weekend at the annual March for Marriage in Washington.

The National Organization for Marriage (NOM), which sponsors the event, is planning a full slate of speakers and a march to the steps of the Supreme Court. All in an effort to show the justices that God’s timeless design for marriage should be affirmed.

“This is right before oral arguments,” said Brian Brown with NOM, “the court will be looking, the nation will be looking and it’s a chance for supporters of traditional marriage to come together and show their support.

CitizenLink President Tom Minnery will be among the speakers at the event. He said the high court has no right to redefine marriage.

“Our prayer is that the outpouring of people for Saturday’s march will become a mighty argument that the court cannot ignore,” he explained. “From the lineup of speakers to the faces in the crowd, Saturday’s march will be highly diverse. This diversity will show the country that people from all walks of life and all ethnic backgrounds are united in their belief that every child needs a mom and a dad.”

MSNBC Host: Force Med Students to Perform Abortions

Melissa Harris-Perry
by Candice Thomas, Liberty News Now: Calling abortion a “basic core skill” that medical students should be forced to learn in order to graduate, MSNBC host Melissa Harris-Perry suggests that force is the only way to make sure doctors have the skills needed to perform abortions going forward – especially when the government decrees “abortion on demand” as ObamaCare begins to show its true self.

During an April 11 appearance on MSNBC’s “Lean Forward” program, Harris-Perry questioned Dr. Anne Davis, consulting medical director for the pro-abortion group Physicians for Reproductive Health about state legislation that would prohibit the “basic core skill” of abortion at state medical schools.
Harris-Perry and Davis described abortion education as a “core part” or a “core skill” no less than five times during the five-minute interview. Harris-Perry began the conversation about recent pro-life advances saying:

“We’re not even one-third of the way through 2015 and already more than 330 provisions to restrict access to reproductive services have been proposed.”

One proposal unnerving Harris-Perry is North Carolina’s House Bill 465 – legislation that would clarify & modify the state’s abortion laws to prevent state medical schools from “perform[ing] or supervis[ing] the performance of” abortions. If passed at the state level, it would be hard for ObamaCare dictators in Washington, DC to order a procedure that doctors are not trained to perform.

Harris-Perry reacted angrily by saying:

“If that bill is enacted, the implication for our medical system could be unprecedented.”

Students should learn to perform abortions in medical school because it is a “basic core skill,” regardless of whether or not that student will be specializing in anything related to the gynecological field.

The tide has decidedly turned against the abortion industry in recent years as more and more pro-life legislators are being elected to state and local office and then using their clout to pass laws tightening restrictions on clinics that perform abortions – something that is well within the right of states to do.

In retaliation and typical fashion, the Left is resorting to force to make sure doctors know how to perform abortions at all stages of gestation – from the “morning after pill” before a baby implants itself in the mother’s uterine lining to partial birth abortion of a live baby.

This use of force would also extend to all medical disciplines including everything from family practice doctors to neurologists, podiatrists, endocrinologists, psychiatrists – you name it. And there would be no exceptions for medical students with religious objections or those that simply find abortion to be morally reprehensible.

Do you believe?

Ben Woodard, Online for Life: I often remind my two sons of a popular phrase: “Your attitude determines your altitude.” Those who value all of human life need to stop thinking about fighting the abortion battle and start thinking about winning the abortion war.

Why I Believe
My belief that abortion will be made unthinkable and unavailable in our lifetime is not some flippant, altruistic platitude. It’s based on conviction and fact. Consider these points:

1. Abortion arguments are completely untruthful. The entire abortion infrastructure is built on lies, but we know that truth sets us free. Winning the abortion war is based on our ability to compassionately and winsomely share truth. Abortion kills a human being. That’s a medical fact. Abortion harms women. That’s a fact. Abortion destroys families. Fact. Abortion is a negative influence on the economy. Fact. Abortion is the leading cause of death in America and breaks the heart of God. Fact. Every life, regardless of the circumstances of their conception, is priceless in value and unlimited in potential. Fact. Therefore, the abortion epidemic in America exists because we, as a society, either believe these lies or passively ignore them. The more effective we are at spreading truth, the faster abortion will disappear.
2. Slavery was a 5,000-year-old institution when William Wilberforce came on the scene in the late 1700s. Over the course of four decades, Wilberforce successfully mobilized a nation that, when he started, accepted slavery as normal and then, when he finished, found slavery reprehensible. Abortion has been legal for 42 years in America, and our culture has never been settled with it. Culturally speaking, it should be easier to overturn abortion now than it was for Wilberforce to overturn slavery. We have historical precedent to guide us.

3. We are learning how to effectively help rescue children and their families from abortion. It used to cost Online for Life over $1,100 to reach an abortion-determined woman who would then choose life. Today, that cost is $265. We are testing; innovating; and learning how to overcome obstacles, meet needs, link arms with hurting people, and help save more babies. The pace of our ability to help rescue children is accelerating.

Online for Life works with 30 life-affirming pregnancy centers across the country, and we continue to see innovation, imagination, and increased results. The two pregnancy centers we own and operate in Pittsburgh and Dallas–Fort Worth are helping to rescue four to five times the number of children from abortion compared to just one year ago.

Do You Believe It?
In light of this tremendous progress, why do compassionate pro-life people still have a pessimistic or neutral attitude about ending legalized abortion? This is by no means a scientific study, but I believe there are three primary reasons:

1. We don’t hear enough good news. I’m often asked if Online for Life, being one of the largest pro-life nonprofit organizations in America, is targeted and abused by the mainstream media. The answer is no, it’s worse. We are ignored. This has been the media’s strategy for years—they simply act like we don’t exist.
So it’s difficult for many people to hear about the amazing progress that is being made by the pro-life movement in political, activist, and community efforts. Lives are being touched, babies are being saved, hearts are being changed. It’s quiet, grassroots, and largely ignored by the powers that be, but it’s happening.

2. “Things are supposed to get bad.” There are many Christians who believe we are living in the “last days.” This theological perspective maintains we are making our way to a time of terrible tribulation, and things are going to get worse before Christ comes to rescue the Church at the second coming. Therefore, legalized abortion may merely be a sign of the times, and we should expect it to continue.

In my travels across the country and in discussions with church leaders and laypeople, I often run across a resigned acceptance of the permanence of abortion, primarily because of this theological view.

I don’t know when Jesus is coming back, and there are numerous theological views regarding the end of time and history. I do know what God has tasked us to do while we are on this planet. Proverbs 24:11 says, “Deliver those who are being taken away to death, and those who are staggering to slaughter, oh hold them back” (NASB). God has given us both dominion over the earth (Genesis 1:28) and the Great Commission (Matthew 28). We have plenty of good work to do while we are here, and that work was ordained before we were even born.

Christians who believe we are living in the end times may very well be right. But they also need to be careful because that view may lead to a conscious—or even subconscious—fatalistic view of the ability of the Church to influence and redeem our culture. Our worldview and our theology govern our behaviors. The temptation may be to sit on the cultural sidelines and wait for Christ to come back to rescue us. Instead, let’s try to save as many souls as we can as this Titanic sinks.

We should be the most optimistic, joyful people in our communities, working passionately to redeem and reconcile all things. Christ’s work on the cross was complete and sufficient. The gates of hell will not prevail against His Church. Christ already won on our behalf.

We are to be both salt (preserving the Gospel in the culture) and light (proclaiming the Good News of Christ).

I’m not arguing for one eschatological (end times) interpretation of Scripture over another. My point is our commitment to rescuing those being taken away to death, restoring our culture to one that values all human life, and obeying the clear command of Scripture to be both “salt” and “light” should be passionate and relentless regardless of our view of the end times. We cannot sit by and allow the suffering, pain, death, and destruction to continue—even if we believe the abortion holocaust may be prophetic. That passivity is in clear contradiction to an abundance of Scripture that commands us to seek justice, preserve the lives of innocent human beings, and love our neighbors as ourselves.

Remember, Proverbs 24:11-12 starts with a command but ends with a warning: “If you say, ‘See we did not know this,’ does He not consider it who weighs the hearts? And does He not know it who keeps your soul? And will He not render to man according to his work?”We can and we should end abortion regardless of when we believe Christ will return.3. “We don’t have the political or financial strength to win.” If we look to the government to end this holocaust, we are going to be severely disappointed—forever. It isn't up to Washington, D.C., or state legislatures to end abortion. It’s up to us.

Laws follow culture. The tremendous pro-life legislative gains that are being made in various state houses and senates are happening because thousands of committed pro-life people are changing the culture and putting pressure on politicians to follow suit. People ask me all the time, “Do you think Roe v. Wade will be overturned?” The answer is, of course, as soon as enough of the culture finds it reprehensible.

Planned Parenthood has a $1+ billion annual budget. But did you know that an estimated $500 to $750 million is donated to the pro-life movement each and every year? Americans care very deeply about the unborn and their families, and they put their money where their mouth is. The financial fight to end abortion may be a lot closer than you think.

Be encouraged. Despite what you hear on the news, on the Internet, or from political know-it-alls, the movement to end abortion is growing more effective than ever, and it’s on the way to ending the abortion holocaust.

So that’s my “why.” Every life is precious and deserves our protection. And I believe we can make abortion unthinkable and unavailable in America in our lifetime.

Do you believe it too? If so, what can we do together to speed up abortion’s demise?

Carly Fiorina: ‘Nobody Agrees With’ Democrats’ Abortion Platform

Carly Fiorina
by Kate Scanlon: Former CEO of Hewlett-Packard and likely presidential candidate Carly Fiorina criticized the Democratic Party’s platform of abortion on demand during a recent speech.

Serving as the mistress of ceremonies at the Susan B. Anthony List’s Campaign for Life Gala in Washington, D.C. last week, Fiorina praised the organization and its supporters for their contributions to the pro-life movement.

Fiorina said that while some call the Republican Party’s pro-life platform “extreme,” the Democratic Party’s platform of abortion on demand is hardly mainstream:
Here is what it says: Any abortion, anytime, at any point in a woman’s pregnancy, for any reason, to be paid for by taxpayers. Now, there are Democrats who want to add, ‘to be performed by a non-doctor.’

And this policy has been succinctly summarized by Democrats, such as Barbara Boxer, as ‘it isn’t a life until it leaves the hospital.’ Do you agree with that? Nobody agrees with that! Even people who think they’re pro-choice don’t agree with that.

She pointed out that tattoo parlors are more “rigorously and routinely inspected” than abortion clinics, and signs in bars caution that the consumption of alcohol is harmful during pregnancy.

“Hazardous to what, or to whom?” she asked.

She encouraged pro-lifers to engage in “persuasive conversations” with those who support abortion “to get them to think–perhaps in a new way.”

“A woman facing a difficult choice always deserves our empathy and our support, never our judgement or our condemnation,” said Fiorina. “But if we can engage in a reasonable conversation with people we can change people’s minds.”

IBM Attacks Religious Liberty

by Bill Donohue, Catholic League: Corporate behemoth IBM wants to join the culture war. Welcome, though it may regret doing so.

No one knew how anti-Christian IBM had become until it unleashed its fury against a religious-liberty bill in Louisiana. Its governor, Bobby Jindal, is a practicing Catholic, and he plans to sign a law that protects religious liberty from its enemies. Those enemies now include IBM.

IBM is charging that the religious-liberty bill will create a “hostile environment for our current and prospective employees,” saying the legislation is “antithetical to our company’s values.” It offers not a shred of evidence to substantiate this absurd accusation, and that’s because there is none. Proof: The Louisiana law is based on a similar federal law, as well as other state laws on this issue, and if religious-liberty legislation triggered a “hostile environment,” then IBM would be able to document it by now. It can’t. As for its “company values,” evidently not among them is respect for the First Amendment guarantee of religious liberty.

If IBM wants to relocate from Louisiana, it should consider Cuba. But it needs to move fast: Cuba is showing signs of renewed respect for religious liberty, and if conditions improve, the capitalist elites may find themselves sitting to the left of the communists.

The Beatification of Murder: How The Church Unwittingly Blesses Abortion

by Rolley Haggard, Contributing Author: It is generally held by both Protestant and Catholic scholars that those dying in infancy—including those whose lives are ended by abortion—are graciously, if mysteriously, covered by the blood of Christ and received into heaven.

But what is often construed as the corollary to this noble belief—even by pastors, according to Randy Alcorn — is something profoundly disturbing: namely, that since aborted children go straight to heaven, abortion isn't such a bad thing. After all, the reasoning goes, those who are born sometimes grow up to reject Christ and perish. Abortion ensures their salvation.

One might assume such bizarre thinking is rare. But evidence suggests it is far more prevalent than commonly acknowledged.

The Power of Subliminal Thought
You're probably not going to hear a fellow Christian come right out and say the things Randy Alcorn addressed in his video. But the fact is. most of us believe more than we are consciously aware of. Someone has said, “I write in order to know what I think.” King David asked the Lord to “search me . . . and know my thoughts . . . and see if there be any wicked way in me.” He knew there could be wrongheaded ideas in his subconsciousness influencing his actions. The point is, we often aren't aware of all we really believe until our ideas are directly challenged.

So while few may be saying, literally, “Let us permit abortion that salvation may come” (a sentiment strikingly similar to “Let us do evil that good may come,” an idea that Paul roundly condemned), it’s possible the notion plays a significant role in the church's reluctance to address with concerted decisiveness the evil of our age. Indeed, the church's longstanding practical indifference to abortion argues that we have unwittingly taken the short step from celebrating the triumph of God's grace over evil, to minimizing the evil over which grace triumphs.

Permitting Evil that Good May Come
We all know God can and often does bring good out of evil. The crucifixion of Jesus is the supreme example. But that doesn't lessen the heinousness of evil. Christ brought redemption to mankind through Calvary, but He also pronounced fearful doom on His betrayer.

When God brings good out of evil it doesn't mean He thinks lightly of evil; it simply means He is greater than evil. To conclude that, because He can cause all things to work together for good, therefore all things are good, is not biblical Christianity. Evil is just as evil when God brings good out of it as when He does not. It is always our duty to “not participate in the unfruitful deeds of darkness, but instead even expose them.” It is never okay for us to “do (or permit) evil that good may come.” Permitting evil is cousin to doing evil. The entire book of Jude is a warning against using the grace of God as a pretext to minimize or excuse sin.

Yet “permitting evil that good may come” is precisely what we are guilty of when, wittingly or unwittingly, we justify passivity towards abortion on the grounds that it is actually better for the pre-born to die before they have a chance to reject Christ. Think how twisted this really is: Instead of opposing abortion as homicide, we treat it as a means of redemption. We rationalize that because abortion guarantees the victim's salvation we have implicit divine warrant to coexist unprotestingly side-by-side with institutionalized evil. But in so doing, we, the presumptive Body of Christ on earth, effectively bless and beatify cold-blooded murder while dreaming our behavior magnifies the grace of God.

Magnifying the Grace of God
God's grace is not magnified by rationalizing away the evil of sin but rather by proclaiming that despite its great evil God can still forgive, thanks to Christ's unspeakably costly sacrifice. God's grace in bringing good from evil does not reduce our responsibility to strive mightily to prevent evil in the first place. We do no honor to God and His grace by reciting beforehand, “Where sin abounds, grace abounds more,” when we have it in our power to avert the very sins yet to be committed. Obedience is always better than sacrifice.

God is not mocked. By pointedly forbidding murder, He has unequivocally willed not only that we refrain from committing murder ourselves, but that we also aggressively seek its outlaw and abolition in society. Until such becomes normative and missional—which is to say, becomes the common worldview and practice of our churches—we not only preclude any realistic hope of seeing abortion significantly reduced or ended, we also risk our churches becoming irrelevant.

In minimizing sin we minimize grace, not because sin and grace are the same thing (obviously), but because only when sin is depicted as the horrible thing it is, can grace be seen for the amazing thing it is. To treat abortion lightly is to misrepresent grace with its counterfeit, license (permission) to sin. It is to effectively “unpreach the gospel” by downplaying humanity's desperate need of a Savior who delivers from both the guilt and power of sin.

The Missionary Mandate: “Every Creature”
In a February BreakPoint piece titled “The Largest Unreached People Group,” I proposed that we include the pre-born in the accepted definition of “unreached peoples.” I noted that since so many (more than 3,300 per day in America alone) are aborted and pass into eternity without the chance of knowing Christ, they qualify.

One thing I deliberately did not do was address the question of eternal destiny. I hoped a conspicuous omission like that might help stimulate a conversation that really needs to happen. It worked.

Several made remarks along these lines: “The question of eternal destiny is the elephant in the room. By not addressing the very reason the pre-born are excluded from the definition, the argument for their inclusion is undercut. The ‘unreached’ are not the babies who if they die go to heaven; the ‘unreached’ are the older people who if they die go to hell. What would be the point of including the pre-born in the definition of ‘unreached’? They are already covered by the grace of God.”

But isn't this just what the apostle Paul condemned: using the grace of God as a pretext for moral irresponsibility? It may be true that all aborted babies go to heaven. But since when does that relieve us of our duty to “preach the gospel to every creature,” “love our neighbor,” and show compassion to “the least of these”?

The primary issue is not the eternal destiny of the pre-born. The primary issue is our responsibility towards them. It is mere consensus that those dying in the womb go to heaven. But it is a certainty that we have responsibility to seek to “deliver them from death.”

The same commandment obligating us to overcome barriers to reach adults obligates us to overcome barriers to reach the pre-born. The barriers may be different, but the mandate is the same: We are to take Christ to every creature. The right response is not to rationalize excuses; the right response is to realign our definition of “unreached” and then follow through accordingly. We are not properly missions-minded if we exclude any living people group. Every creature means every creature. Clearly, if we are to reach the pre-born we must work to abolish abortion.

Fanny Crosby's classic hymn reminds us we're not just to “rescue the perishing.” We're also to “care for the dying.” Fifty percent is a failing grade.

Thanks Gov. Hutchinson for Signing the Arkansas Religious Freedom Law

by CitizenLink Team: A group of influential leaders sent a letter to Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson thanking him for standing up for religious freedom.

After weeks of misleading news stories about Religious Freedom Restoration Acts (RFRA) in Indiana and Arkansas, 37 national leaders, ministries and local pastors expressed their gratitude to the governor for protecting First Freedoms.

“You clearly understand the importance of the RFRA in defending the right of all Arkansans to guide their lives according to the dictates of their faith and conscience,” the letter states

“That law gives people of all faiths a fair hearing whenever their religious liberty is threatened by the government. And it protects Arkansans’ freedom to be left alone to run their lives, businesses, charities, and schools in accordance with their sincerely held religious beliefs.”

RFRAs are now law in 21 states and 11 others have court decisions that protect religious freedoms from government infringement. Despite attacks by those opposed to the bill, the signers of the letter praised Hutchinson for maintaining his position and having the courage to stand for people of faith.

“By signing the RFRA into law, you have significantly advanced the cause of religious freedom,” the letter continues. “We hope that your principled stand will inspire other leaders all across America to act with similar courage and resolve in the ongoing fight over our Nation’s enduring commitment to religious freedom.”

April 9, 2015

Hon. Asa Hutchinson
Governor of Arkansas
Arkansas State Capitol
500 Woodlane Street
Suite 250
Little Rock, AR 72201

Governor Hutchinson:
On behalf of Americans who value religious liberty, thank you for signing Arkansas’s Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA) into law. By taking a stand for faith and freedom, you demonstrated an exceptional commitment to religious liberty in your State. For protecting religious freedom, and for setting an example for other leaders to follow, we commend you.

You clearly understand the importance of the RFRA in defending the right of all Arkansans to guide their lives according to the dictates of their faith and conscience. That law gives people of all faiths a fair hearing whenever their religious liberty is threatened by the government. And it protects Arkansans’ freedom to be left alone to run their lives, businesses, charities, and schools in accordance with their sincerely held religious beliefs.

For freedom to flourish, we must protect citizens against state action that coerces them to violate their faith. That’s precisely what this law does. And it is precisely what federal and state RFRAs have been doing for over two decades.

In a pluralistic society like ours, people should be free to live and work consistent with their convictions. By signing the RFRA into law, you have significantly advanced the cause of religious freedom. We hope that your principled stand will inspire other leaders all across  America to act with similar courage and resolve in the ongoing fight over our Nation’s enduring commitment to religious freedom.

Clarion Students For Life Crosses Display Vandalized

Todd Garrett, Vice President of Clarion Students for Life: Update: We have received great support from the Administration. President Whitney issued a statement about the situation and there was an email sent out by the Judicial Services here at Clarion. An individual did approach the Director for the Center of Leadership and Involvement and the Director of Judicial and Mediation Services and confessed to doing it. She stated that the crosses had been written on before she was there. She stated she was offended by the display and thought that it was mostly like from a group not associated with the University.

She placed them into trash cans because she thought that she was doing the maintenance people a favor. I spoke with the Leadership Director and he stated that she was a second semester freshman and had never seen this before. She was unaware that Clarion SFL has done this over 10 years. The girl is going to be reaching out to our advisor. We have an event tonight and our group is going to decide tonight on how we want to proceed with the issue. We will be deciding whether to take it to the Judicial Conduct Board or not. Also this morning, I filed a complaint with our Campus Police Department, so we will be deciding whether to continue with that or not. We did have support from the Clarion VDay Project. A few of their members helped SFL put the crosses back up when we did it at noon. I think after some discussions that SFL and VDay have had, we will be able to foster a new collaborative relationship.

Clarion University crosses1Original:   For the second time in four years, the Clarion Students for Life Cemetery of the Innocents display, which consists of dozens of white crosses each representing 10 babies who were aborted that day, has been vandalized. Clarion University of Pennsylvania, a public university, is located in Clarion, PA, about an hour and a half from Pittsburgh.

Clarion Students for Life put up the crosses Sunday night around 7pm and by 8am this morning, the club’s leaders were notified that the display had been vandalized – a few crosses were written on, others were broken, and others stuffed into the nearest trashcan.

The vandals wrote on some crosses:
“would you support if this life was gay?”
“would you support if this life were trans?”

“This was a reprehensible act of discrimination against Students for Life,” said senior Todd Garrett, Vice President of Clarion Students for Life. “It was an attack on our freedom of speech. I find it quite ridiculous that this is the second time since 2011 that our crosses have been desecrated.”

Clarion University crosses - written2The Students for Life club will put up the damaged crosses and re-construct the display today at Noon, the most highly trafficked time of day at the university. The club has also alerted campus police, who informed the students that they will look at possible surveillance video and try to find the culprits.

Clarion University crosses - written “Instead of dialogue, abortion supporters have once again taken to bullying to silence those with whom they disagree,” said Kristan Hawkins, president of Students for Life of America. “Perhaps if the vandals had sought this dialogue with Clarion Students for Life they would have learned that pro-life students support the right of every human person to be a person, no matter their gender identity or sexual orientation. The Clarion University administration must take swift and immediate action to find the vandals and use appropriate disciplinary measures.”

In 2011 at Clarion University, pro-choice vandals pulled up 350 crosses and re-inserted them in inverted fashion, a well-known anti-Christian symbol. Additionally, red paint was splattered on crosses and signs. Even eerier was the mock bloody footprints of an infant painted in front of the display.
