Obama Admin Wants to Fund Scientists to Make Human-Animal Hybrids

In his late 19th century novel, The Island of Doctor Moreau, H.G. Wells tells a chilling, futuristic story about a doctor on a Pacific island who is performing horrific experiments to craft animals into human beings.

While Dr. Moreau’s world might be far-fetched for now, the National Institutes of Health (NIH), a federally-funded medical research agency, wants to start funding research on human-animal chimeras that could move us in that direction.

On August 4, 2016, the NIH announced that it will begin spending taxpayer dollars on the creation and manipulation of new beings whose very existence blurs the line between humans and animals. We’re not talking about using a pig’s heart valve to fix a human heart. Nor are we talking about growing human cancer tumors in mice to study disease processes. These non-controversial practices have been going on for decades and don’t pose any serious ethical problems.

The research NIH wants to fund is fundamentally different and ethically problematic for several reasons. First, it relies on the killing of humans at the embryonic stage to harvest their stem cells. Second, it involves the production of animals that could have partly or wholly human brains. Third, it involves the production of animals that could have human sperm or eggs (with a stipulation that precautions are taken so such animals are not allowed to breed).

Finally, introducing human embryonic stem cells into very early animal embryos will make it very difficult to know the extent to which human cells contribute to the final organism. This is another key moral problem with the NIH proposal: If researchers can’t know for certain whether the resulting being has human status or characteristics, they won’t know what their moral obligations may be toward that being. . . . Read More

Hillary Hails Abortion, Transgenderism, Homosexuality in Women’s Equality Day Video

by Claire Chretien, LifeSiteNews:  Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton released a video celebrating abortion advocacy, transgenderism, and homosexuality as integral parts of Women’s Equality Day.

Clinton’s video lumped the women’s suffrage movement in with the women’s liberation movement of the 1960s and 1970s and modern leftist protests.

“To create a better world, it’s about putting ourselves in the shoes of people who need a voice,” a narrator explains as the video shows footage of activists protesting a late-term abortion ban in Texas.

The irony couldn’t be more obvious. Clinton supports taxpayer-funded abortion on demand. Who needs a voice more than our voiceless sisters who are dismembered every day in the womb?

(The “shoes” reference is also ironic. The law Clinton’s video showed being protested was the law then-state senator Wendy Davis filibustered for 11 hours while wearing pink tennis shoes. By doing this, Davis temporarily ensured that thousands of babies could legally be killed before ever donning tiny shoes themselves.)

“I wanna help give back. I’ve met so many other transgender people,” an activist says as the video shows a rainbow flag. “Their voices haven’t always been heard, but I’ve told them, ‘Our time is coming.’”

“Women and men, young and old, Latino and Asian, African-American and Caucasian, rich, poor, and middle class, gay and straight, you have stood with me and I will continue to stand strong with you every time, every place, and every way that I can,” Clinton says at the end of the video. “The dreams we share are worth fighting for. And I want to build an America that respects and embraces the potential of every last one of us.”

Apparently, some exceptions apply. Clinton will only embrace your potential once you’ve been born.

by Kerby Anderson, Contributing Author*: Doubt is something that we all face. All of us have doubts, but these shouldn’t lead to confusion, hopelessness, and unbelief. Doubts can often deepen our dependence on God and give us empathy for others.

Pastor Bobby Conway was on my program recently to talk about his new book, Doubting Toward Faith: The Journey to Confident Christianity. Sean McDowell wrote the foreword to the book, and he was in my radio studio recently and also talked about doubt.

Bobby Conway reminds us that there are different forms of doubt: emotional doubt, intellectual doubt, volitional doubt, and evidential doubt. He also had two chapters on all of the doubt triggers in our world today. These range from questions about alleged contradictions in the Bible to moral and ethical questions found in the Bible. And he reminds us that Jesus can handle our doubts. After all, Thomas had questions and doubts. Jesus did not condemn him but answered his questions and provided evidence for his doubts.

In the foreword and his radio interview with me, Sean McDowell shared how doubts first hit him as a college student. He sat down with his father to share his doubts. Josh McDowell responded, “I think its great that you want to find truth.” This gave Sean room to pursue his questions and resolve his doubts. It allowed him to make the faith of his parents his own faith.

He discovered that doubts don’t have to be the end of faith. They can often be the impetus for the development of a deeper, more genuine faith. Of course you have to be intentional in your search for truth.

If you have doubts or know someone who has doubts, this is an excellent book to read and pass on to others. It is well-written and immensely practical. As some of us have said, we wish we had this book when we were growing up and asking good questions that few (if any) seemed able to answer.

430 Groups Want United Nations to Create a Special Day to Promote Abortions

Groups Promote Abortion at UN
To pro-lifers, the idea of a “Safe Abortion Day” celebration may seem like a sickly ironic joke, but the idea is exactly what hundreds of pro-abortion groups are trying to push the United Nations to adopt.

CNS News reports a coalition of 430 international pro-abortion groups sent a letter to the UN asking that Sept. 28 to be recognized as “Safe Abortion Day” by the UN General Assembly. The International Campaign for Women’s Right to Safe Abortion launched the initiative with help from NARAL, Planned Parenthood and hundreds of other pro-abortion groups and individuals, according to the report.

In the letter, the pro-abortion coalition explained that it chose Sept. 28 because the date “was declared an international day of action for the decriminalization of abortion in 1990 by the women’s health movement and has been celebrated annually ever since.” Past celebrations of the abortion day have included “marches” and “flashmobs,” “street theatre” and “art exhibitions,” music, films, demonstrations and more, according to the letter.

Leftist Billionaire George Soros Hired Leftist Groups to Silence the Church on Abortion and Marriage

by Austin Ruse, C-Fam: It has come to light that hard-left billionaire George Soros spent nearly a million dollars to silence Pope Francis on abortion and marriage during his trip to the United States last year.

Soros gave $650,000 to two community organizing groups who had inside access to the Vatican and to the major media and their goal was nothing short of ensuring Pope Francis did not mention abortion or man-woman marriage while he was in the United States.

These groups also take credit for getting Vatican spokesmen to deny that Kim Davis meet privately with the Pope while he was in Washington DC, something we know to be true.

We also know that Soros and his team are dedicated to undermining the teachings of the Church on human sexuality at the UN and around the world.

C-Fam has been tracking this kind of thing for twenty years. We have followed the efforts to undermine Church teaching and we know how this works.

Five years ago we started reporting on an even more nefarious plot, that is, the UN Global Tax for Abortion. Totally alone among pro-life groups at the UN, we have steadfastly reported on how UN radicals want to impose a global tax on all international financial transactions all of which will go to the UN. This would be a first in history, the UN would have a massive revenue stream totally untethered from governmental oversight.

This would be a Soros grant on steroids. UN radicals would be able to spend billions to undermined Church teaching on human sexuality. Unborn babies would be in their sights, so would the natural family.

The Soros grant and its stated purpose to undermine Church teaching tells us we are right to be concerned about the UN Global Tax that has been promoted at the highest reaches of the United Nations.

U.S. House: University Broke Law Buying Brains of Aborted Babies for Students to Dissect

A U.S. House committee is recommending that criminal charges be filed against the University of New Mexico after it allowed summer camp students to be involved in dissecting aborted babies’ brains, Fox News reports.

The House Select Panel on Infant Lives, chaired by pro-life Congresswoman Marsha Blackburn, R-Tennessee, wrote a letter to New Mexico Attorney General Hector Balderas accusing the university of illegally transferring aborted babies’ body parts. Blackburn and the panel sent Balderas evidence that they uncovered and asked him to conduct a criminal investigation.

“Documentation obtained by the panel in the course of its investigation reflects that the transfer of fetal tissue from SWWO [an abortion clinic] to UNM for research purposes is a direct violation of New Mexico’s Jonathan Spradling Revised Uniform Anatomical Gift Act,” Blackburn wrote.

Blackburn told Balderas that university officials trained new abortion doctors, referred women to outside abortion clinics, sent UNM faculty and residents to an abortion clinic during transition between owners, extended “voluntary faculty” status to local abortionists, supplied residents and fellows to perform abortions for [Southwestern Women’s Options], and put pressure on employees and students for political support, all in violation of state law.

Blackburn’s letter was accompanied by a scathing 291-page report outlining the relationship between UNM and SWWO and the use and advocacy of aborted tissues for research.

“Today, UNM Hospital performs surgical abortions for any reason through 25 weeks gestation,” said the report. “Since the time when opposition to participating in abortion procedures was the predominant view of UNM medical staff, the culture appears to have changed—along with the composition of UNM hospital and clinic personnel—to one aggressively in favor of the expansion of abortion.”

UNM officials admitted that the tissues were used for research purposes.
A spokesman for the attorney general said their office is reviewing the evidence.

2016 Senate Elections: Staying Home is NOT an Option!

by Karen Cross. NRL Political Director: Every election year brings with it new challenges, and it’s not an exaggeration to say that this election has been the most unpredictable election year in our lifetime!

But there do remain constants.

Every election, we encounter those who are so discouraged with how some races are shaping up that they hide behind their anger and sacrifice their right to vote.

And, every election, we make decisions that will have consequences, for good or ill, for generations to come.

In politics, we have to always be looking forward, being watchful and vigilant in a field that is constantly changing. But we can’t just look to the future, we must also learn from our past, being ever mindful to not repeat history’s mistakes.

It’s no wonder then, that I have always been fascinated by history. Reading over the founding of our country, I am in awe of those willing to fight the necessary battles, who gave up their happiness – even their lives – for the opportunity to give us the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness of our own.

I often find this selflessness reflected in the pro-life movement.

Millions of pro-lifers have dedicated their lives to fight for the rights of people we will never meet, making sacrifices so that others may live.

As pro-lifers, we are constantly on the battle lines. We battle for the hearts and minds of Americans. We are on the frontlines in a spiritual battle as well.

“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed, by their Creator, with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness.”

We forget that these words represented a truly radical idea of the time. They fought on the frontlines of history, incapable of knowing the ripple effect their efforts would have on future lives. But they knew that these ideas, life, liberty… were worth fighting for.

We now find ourselves in a ferocious battle to keep pro-life leadership in the U.S. House and Senate, so that we can pass protective pro-life legislation that saves lives – and prevent the enactment of sweeping new pro-abortion legislation that would cost countless lives.

Each time you enter the voting booth, you have a ripple effect that will impact the entire country. You will be electing senators and representatives who will determine the direction of our nation and who will decide the next members of our Supreme Court. You will be electing local representatives who will decide whether your state respects life or passes laws that prey on the vulnerable.

Those local representatives whom you elect may eventually run for higher office. And so the cycle continues. Each vote we cast, or do not cast, will have consequences.

You may tire of hearing me tell you that each election is the most important we have ever seen, but with each election comes new opportunities, new dangers, and fresh faces. Each election is a chance to protect mothers and their unborn children, and each election I will sound the call for you to take up your arms and work for political leaders who will represent ALL of us – born and unborn.

The freedom to vote and the opportunity to have an impact of this magnitude is both a great privilege and a great responsibility we all bear.

As we look to upcoming Supreme Court nominations perhaps the greatest responsibility we in the political field have right now is to ensure we have a pro-life Senate that will confirm pro-life nominees and block judges who would entrench and expand Roe.

This year, there are 34 U.S. Senate seats up for election: 10 Democrat seats and 24 Republican seats. All of the Democrats up for re-election are pro-abortion.

According to Cook Political Report eight of the 10 Democrat seats are currently “safe,” while 13 of the 24 Republican seats are vulnerable. Democrats need a net gain of five seats to regain control of the Senate, or four if they win the White House.

In the House of Representatives Democrats need a net gain of only 30 seats to take pro-abortion control of the U.S. House of Representatives.

The battle for majority control of the U.S. Senate and U.S. House of Representatives will have sweeping implications for the future of the pro-life movement and our battle to save unborn babies. The loss of the pro-life Republican majorities would be devastating to life issues.

I began by talking about history, and the importance of reflecting upon where we have been, so as to not repeat the mistakes of the past. A radical idea in the 1700s, that we all have the equal right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness carries us through in our actions today.

But today we make history of our own. Today we make choices for future generations to reflect upon. Will they look back in 300 years at our choices and deride us for staying silent in the face of evil? Will they admire our diligence in protecting the weak and the vulnerable? Will they wonder why we didn’t do more?

No. That last one is off the table – we will do all we can.

The late Elie Wiesel, an Auschwitz survivor, told us, “[T]o remain silent and indifferent is the greatest sin of all.”

Abortion is the ultimate human discrimination and we. Will. Not. Stay. Silent.

We will fight with our last breath for those who cannot speak for themselves. As long as there is the violence and injustice of abortion there will be those of us who stand against it, and work to protect all of our unborn brothers and sisters.

In every battle, there are soldiers, and every soldier needs their marching orders. These are yours:

Do not stay silent.

Do not be discouraged.

Do not allow fear to guide your steps.

The stakes are too important, and every voice will be needed to ensure the Senate holds. We must hold the Senate. YOU must hold the Senate. If you do nothing, we will fail. [Source]

I Once Voted for a Pro-Abortion President, Here’s Why I’ll Never Do It Again

by Maria Gallagher: I have often wondered what it felt like for pro-life activists the day the men of the U.S. Supreme Court handed down the 1973 U.S. Supreme Court decision Roe v. Wade. To see abortion-on-demand legalized throughout the country must have been a profoundly painful feeling. But even those with much foresight could not have envisioned the aftermath of Roe: more than 58 million dead…countless numbers of women maimed and wounded…legions of men forced to grapple with the reality of lost fatherhood.

But I do know what it felt like on June 27, 2016, when the Supreme Court handed down Whole Women’s Health v. Hellerstedt. I felt such an overwhelming sadness, knowing that the women of Texas would no longer have the safeguards that protected their health and safety when entering abortion centers. It was a stinging defeat, and I fear for our nation.

Then, I remembered something: Justice Stephen Breyer had written the decision. Breyer had been appointed by President Bill Clinton. And I, in a completely misinformed and misguided vote, had once cast my ballot for Bill Clinton.

I understand that I am only one individual. But in that moment, I realized that a mistake I had made long ago had contributed, if only in a small way, to the disastrous court ruling.

I know I will never make that mistake again. I will never vote for a President who would appoint pro-abortion Justices to the Supreme Court. Because, although justice in America is supposed to be blind, it sees too often the talking points of the abortion industry and regurgitates them.

This Supreme Court decision is a wake-up call. The most important aspect of Election 2016 is the course it will set for the Supreme Court. Clinton who pledges to appoint pro-abortion Justices will expand Roe. And that would haunt us for generations to come.

How Can Black Lives Matter When 20 Million Black Babies Have Been Aborted?

Merritt, of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference; and Civil Rights Activist, Clarence Henderson, who sat in on the “White Only” Woolworths lunch counters in Greensboro, NC; True Elders, individuals who have not been persuaded by “Political Correctness”; individuals who heard, responded to, and then deeply embraced the divinely inspired words of Dr. Martin Luther King; words which were spoken in a 1964 address at Drew University, “The American Dream.” . . .

Yet there has never been a “stranger paradox” than the announcement that Planned Parenthood is in collaboration with “Black Life Matters,” the epitome of oxymoronic examples. Now I say to all Americans, but especially and in particular to my African American Brothers and Sisters (of which I am one): Will you ever recognize this conspiracy against you? For the leading killer of innocent unarmed African Americans – whose hands were up, but given no choice nor chance at the American Dream their fellow African American, Dr. Martin Luther King preached about – is Planned Parenthood! Black Life Matters has just teamed up with the most destructive racist machine in America and American history, whose founder, Margaret Sanger, was the most devout racist of her time! Paradoxically, and unbelievably, Black Life Matters has linked itself to the Abortion Industry whose main target has always been Black Life and whose founder clearly had great disdain for Black Life, for in an almost Hitleresque way, Margaret Sanger stated. . . .

So let’s get this straight, my Black Brothers and Sisters: Black Life Matters is partnering with an institution which was designed with the hope of completely eliminating African American people. Some would call this genocide, for this same organization is responsible for over twenty million (20,000,000) African Americans missing by sanctioned murder in America. And to add insult to injury, after brutally killing and dismembering these infants within the womb – in a nod to the bad old days of the Slave Block prior to 1865 – Planned Parenthood was caught in a sting selling these African American body parts for profit as determined by a US Congressional investigation and hearing last year. Black Life Matters now becomes bait for unsuspecting Black women to be lured into Planned Parenthood’s killer clinics of Black Life. . . .

Black Life Matters needs to disavow any alliance with Planned Parenthood, just as Donald Trump did with David Dukes. Planned Parenthood has proven without question to be far more racist, and definitely more deadly, than David Dukes and his KKK activities could ever hope to be. Planned Parenthood Sought $1.5 Million From George Soros After Exposed Selling Baby Parts

New documents released today show the Planned Parenthood abortion business sought $1.5 million form liberal billionaire George Soros to help respond to the avalanche of negative publicity following the reseals of multiple videos showing the abortion company selling the body parts of aborted babies.

After the Planned Parenthood abortion company was caught in multiple states selling aborted babies and their body parts,several states took steps to defund the abortion corporation and they and Congress launched investigations.

Now, a report by The Free Beacon reveals George Soros’ dark money group planned a seven-figure cash infusion for the Planned Parenthood abortion giant in its efforts to stave off the bad press and defend its taxpayer funding. . . .

Decapitating Children in Abortion is The Same as ISIS Brutalizing People

A liberal news outlet bashed pro-life Liberty Counsel Chairman Mat Staver this week after he exposed the brutality of abortion by likening it to terrorists.

Staver recently spoke during a pro-life event in April for the Pennsylvania group People Concerned for the Unborn Child, and some of his remarks were videotaped and published on YouTube.

A lawyer and professor, Staver discussed the horrific human rights abuse of abortion. He explained how some abortion procedures decapitate and dismember unborn children in the womb in painful, gruesome ways.

Staver compared these horrendous abuses to those being perpetrated by ISIS and other terrorist groups.

“Because we’re decapitating children, we’re breaking off their arms and legs, we’re brutalizing them in the same way that these larger people are being brutalized by ISIS,” Staver said.

“God cannot continue to allow this country to exist under those kinds of circumstances,” he continued. “He cannot bless America under those kinds of circumstances. Wisconsin Planned Parenthood Facility Closes -- Can’t Find Anyone to Kill Babies in Abortions

A Planned Parenthood abortion clinic is closing in Wisconsin. The reason? One state pro-life group says the abortion giant has had problems locating an abortion practitioner for the facility and fewer women are seeking abortions.

Today Pro-Life Wisconsin told LifeNews it is celebrating the permanent closure of the Planned Parenthood abortion facility in Grand Chute, Wisconsin. The group informed LifeNews: “Pro-Life Wisconsin believes the closure is due to lack of clients and lack of abortionists.”

“Today, we have a cause for great celebration,” Pro-Life Wisconsin State Director Dan Miller said. “We morn the lost of each and every baby killed in that facility.”

Abortion Is America's Great Sin

by Judie Brown: A couple of years ago Hollywood actor Jim Caviezel told a Rock Church audience in San Diego that abortion is America’s great sin. Speaking to his audience, he challenged them as individuals, saying that “many people are a part of this great sin in this country.” His message on that day was that God is all loving. He told them, “You have to take Jesus Christ into your life every day.”

When Live Action News repeated this story a couple of days ago, it struck me that it was no accident that we are reminded of Caviezel’s words of hope in the same week that Planned Parenthood president Cecile Richards has unabashedly proclaimed that she and her organization are all-in during this election year to make certain that every abortion that anyone ever thought of acquiring is available at taxpayer expense.

When the Supreme Court handed down the Whole Woman’s Health v. Hellerstedt decision striking down anti-abortion provisions in the Texas law earlier this year, Richards’ program for the future of the abortion industry took on a whole new look. As she said in her comments celebrating the decision, “This is a win for women.” Assuring Planned Parenthood followers that they would “fight like hell” for the right of every woman to have an abortion, she is echoing the sentiments that have permeated the actual war-on-women cartel for a very long time.

But there is much that we can and must do to unravel the twisted agenda that creates this kind of devotion to the act of killing an innocent child before birth. Richards has labelled the act a humanizing event for the expectant mother whose baby is about to die. She says, “‘This is the most personal decision that many people will make in their lifetime,’ and the thought that anyone other than that person would make that decision, and that you would put that in the hands of government, is just unthinkable.”

But what is truly unthinkable is the result of the act that is the death of an innocent person who has no say in the matter at all because every human right has been denied that preborn child.

As Father John Hollowell of the Archdiocese of Indianapolis, Indiana, said in a video message for Cecile Richards that appears on the website Roman Catholic Man: “We have no doubt that in 20 or 50 or 100 years, other societies and other civilizations will look back and will lump your organization in with the slave traders, the Nazis, the communists, all those groups that have always sought to oppress people.”

This brave priest challenged Richards, saying:

You better knock us out now. You and the president, in seeking to silence the Church, seeking to silence those who also believe that they have a say—you and the president better knock us out right now. Because Cecile, I can promise you, here comes the Catholic Church.

Our seminaries and our convents are bursting at the seams, at least those convents that have not bought in to your agenda of the culture of death and the lies that you seek to spread.
These words should become the challenge for each and every one of us in our battle to save the children. We know this in the same way that Jim Caviezel knows that abortion is indeed America’s great sin.

This sin will not be eradicated with an election, but it will be with confidence and a desire to be the hands and the feet of Christ.

We know that the antidote to abortion is to be truth-tellers with love in our hearts and education on our minds. We have the tools to teach truth. All we have to do is use them in a way that assures that aborting children is no longer America’s great sin.

Gender Ideology Leads to Child Abuse: Pediatricians

by Susan Yoshihara, Ph.D: “Facts – not ideology – determine reality,” the American College of Pediatricians (ACP) said in a warning to legislators and educators about the dangers of surgical and medical sex change operations to children.

“Conditioning children into believing that a lifetime of chemical and surgical impersonation of the opposite sex is normal and healthful is child abuse,” the physicians said, “Rates of suicide are twenty times greater among adults who use cross-sex hormones and undergo sex reassignment surgery, even in Sweden which is among the most LGBTQ – affirming countries.”

The group, which aims at getting parents involved in their children’s health and education about health, said, “Gender (an awareness and sense of oneself as male or female) is a sociological and psychological concept; not an objective biological one,” and that, “A person’s belief that he or she is something they are not is, at best, a sign of confused thinking.”

To the contrary, the group maintained that human sexuality is a “binary trait” and said the XY and XX chromosomes that determine female or male sex are “genetic markers of health” not “genetic markers of a disorder.”

“No one is born with a gender. Everyone is born with a biological sex,” the statement said.

The American Academy of Pediatricians, the larger professional society from which the ACP broke away in 2002, has surgical and medical interventions in youth to suppress the hormones that naturally cause girls to grow into women and boys to men.

The ACP says this change in position has put American teens at higher risk for physical and mental illness. “Puberty is not a disease and puberty-blocking hormones can be dangerous…as many as 98% of gender confused boys and 88% of gender confused girls eventually accept their biological sex after naturally passing through puberty,” the ACP pointed out, and noted that children who use puberty blockers to “impersonate the opposite sex” will require cross-sex hormones in late adolescence that in turn can cause dangerous health risks such as high blood pressure, blood clots, stroke and cancer.

One of the statement’s authors is psychologist Paul McHugh. Drawing upon his clinical work with LGBTQ persons as chief psychologist at Johns Hopkins hospital and research as distinguished professor at the university’s medical school, McHugh has criticized what he sees as the American Psychological Association’s embracing of gender ideology at the expense of sound medical practice. McHugh authored an amicus brief filed in the U.S. Supreme Court case that overturned man-woman marriage laws in the U.S. last year.

Pro-LGBT groups criticized the ACP statement saying it would incite discrimination; one group called it an “attack on transgender children”. A public interest law firm labeled the ACP a “hate group” when it filed an amicus brief with the Alabama Supreme Court which favored exceptions to the 2015 U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling knocking down U.S. laws protecting marriage as between a man and a woman.

Activists similarly criticized Pope Francis’ recent remarks to Polish bishops where he identified gender “ideology” as a form of “ideological colonization” and linked it to government corruption. He said, “Today children – children! – are taught in school that everyone can choose his or her sex. Why are they teaching this? Because the books are provided by the persons and institutions that give you money. These forms of ideological colonization are also supported by influential countries. And this is terrible!”

How a Formerly Pro-Choice Nursing Instructor Discusses Abortion with her Students

by Cynthia Isabell: I have been a labor and delivery nurse since 1980. During my thirty-six year nursing career, I have also worked in medical units and for hospice. Being a nurse has allowed me to be present with people through their early beginnings of intrauterine life, and with others through their last breaths. It has been an amazing and rewarding journey. Life is precious and life is fleeting, and life should be respected. I am pro-life.

I am also a nursing instructor and have taught obstetrics to hundreds of young men and women, our future nurses. My students often ask me what my opinion is regarding abortion. “Are you pro-life or pro-choice?” they ask me. I do not ask them the same, as I don’t want them to fear that their position might affect how I grade them.

When I answer that I am pro-life, the students often assume that my position is based on my religious beliefs, and so they respond that “you can’t force your religious beliefs on everyone else.” I explain that my argument against abortion is based on the anatomy and physiology of pregnancy, and on logical reasoning.

I was not always pro-life. In the past I considered myself pro-choice. During my career I have even assisted with abortions which were considered to be therapeutic, done through inducing labor, and frequently done for Trisomy 21, or Down Syndrome. It is my understanding of human biology and embryology as well as my own experiences with abortion and thousands of pregnant patients which have shaped my current position on abortion.

Without fail, my students ask me the questions that they hear argued in the media. My students ask these questions even though they, having studied biology, human anatomy, and physiology, already know the answers.

They ask, “When does life begin?” I respond with, “You know the answer to this question. How do you tell if something, such as a cell, is alive or not?” The students answer correctly that “living cells grow and multiply.” And so of course I must remind them of what they already know: that growth and multiplication is exactly what is happening after the egg and the sperm join to form the zygote. Within twenty-four hours of conception the zygote is dividing rapidly into many cells which will differentiate to form different parts of the human body.

Dead things do not do this. Dead cells do not replicate their DNA and multiply into more cells. They do not differentiate to become a brain, a heart, the liver, the skin, muscle and bone. Life begins at conception, when the fertilized egg begins to grow.

The next question they ask is “When can it be considered a human?” I answer, “What determines whether we are a human, rather than a bird or a zucchini?” The answer to this is simple and they correctly reply that it is “our genetics, our DNA.” When the egg and the sperm join, this is the beginning of a new human, with its own set of DNA which also includes hair color, eye color, skin tone, fingerprints, and a multitude of other individual characteristics. The baby is genetically different from the mother, having only half of the DNA coming from her, and half from the father; a distinct human being.

“So now we all can agree that we have established that abortion is killing a living human.”

Of course, the conversation is not complete without “Why shouldn’t a woman be able to do what she wants with her body?”

“The woman has every right to be in control of and responsible for her body,” I answer. She has the right and responsibility to use methods to prevent conception if she does not want to become pregnant. Being in control also would include not engaging in activity which is known to lead to pregnancy, which is sexual intercourse. There are a variety of other, easily accessible methods which can be used to prevent conception from occurring.

“However, once a pregnancy occurs, it is no longer only the woman’s body that is in question, as the baby is not a part of her body,” I explain. “Tell me how we know that the baby is not a part of the woman’s body.”

The students then explain to me that the placenta and the umbilical cord are what separate the baby from the mother. This is important, as most people would view the placenta and the umbilical cord as a means by which the baby is connected to its mother and so make the fetus “part of her body.” While it is true on the surface, a better and more truthful understanding is that it’s the placenta and umbilical cord which separate the mother from the baby and prove that the fetus was never part of its mother’s body. This is because the placenta and umbilical cord exist precisely because the baby has a different and separate circulatory system from the mother and their blood must not intermingle. If something happens, such as a traumatic injury, that causes their blood to mix, it can cause serious complications.

If the fetus were not a separate human being but were only another part of its mother’s body, it would not need a placenta and umbilical cord to separate them. It could simply grow inside one of her body cavities like a tumor without any barriers between the two to protect each of them.

“Now you have established that even though the baby and the placenta are in the uterus, they are not a part of the woman’s body. And even though the placenta is attached to the uterus, it is no more a part of her body than an earring or a watch is when you wear them. So now we have determined that the baby is a genetically distinct human, not a part of the woman’s body, and that it is alive, growing, and developing.”

“What about cases of pregnancy that result from rape?” my students then ask.

According to research, 75-80% of women who become pregnant after rape choose to keep their babies rather than having an abortion. Abortion is not an easy, consequence-free escape hatch. It is not a delete button or reset switch. It is an action all its own, with its own implications and consequences. As such, it cannot undo a rape and erase the pain and trauma for the rape victim. Abortion is the ending of a human life, a life which is as much the child of its mother as it is of its father. It is an additional trauma for the woman, and so it compounds rather than ameliorates the trauma of rape.

Women who are pregnant from rape often choose to carry the pregnancy because they recognize that the baby is still their baby despite the circumstances of its conception. They also feel that having an abortion would be undoing the only positive thing (the baby) that resulted from the rape, as it cannot “undo” the rape. While abortion exacerbates the pain of the rape victim, many find that having the child is a source of healing for them.

Additionally, many rape victims state that they do not want to punish an innocent baby because of the crime of the rapist. If they were to do that, they would feel like they were as bad as the rapist. Victims of rape already suffer from feelings of guilt and shame over what happened to them, and part of the healing process involves releasing those feelings and recognizing that they are not responsible for what someone else did to them. However, if they become pregnant from the rape and have an abortion, they are now burdened with actual rather than imagined guilt – actual guilt for having committed a crime against an innocent victim – which makes healing tremendously more difficult. Women who have had abortions report suffering from immense guilt afterwards, and they become more burdened by the abortion than by the rape itself because they now feel like a perpetrator and a worse criminal than even the rapist.

My students also ask, “What about abortion in cases to save the mother’s life?” There are statistics reported that less than 1% of abortions are performed to save the life or reduce health risks of the mother. This statistic is unreliable because it includes ectopic pregnancies which would not survive regardless because of where the placenta is implanted. The definition of an abortion is the termination of a human pregnancy to cause the death of a fetus, which is another reason why the removal of an ectopic pregnancy cannot be considered the same as an abortion. It is not performed for the sole purpose of ending the life of the fetus. This statistic also includes abortions done for the mother’s mental health, because she allegedly cannot handle the stress of a baby born with a genetic abnormality such as Trisomy 21 (Down Syndrome). Subtracting “abortions” to remove ectopic pregnancies and those which are performed for preserving a woman’s mental health, we find that statistic dwindle down to zero. As the Association of Pro-Life Physicians states, an abortion is never needed to save the life of a mother and this argument should not be used as a support for abortion.

The argument that all abortions should be legal anytime for any reason because sometimes it is performed to save a mother’s life does not hold up under further scrutiny. If you say that sometimes shooting a person can save the life of another, as in self-defense, can you then conclude that it should be okay to shoot people anytime, for any reason?

In the past when I have assisted with abortions, I believed that it was acceptable because I was not actually performing the abortion and I was only taking care of the mother while the physician performed the abortion. One day, I witnessed a saline abortion. I watched the baby through the ultrasound as the doctor injected saline solution into the uterus. Immediately the baby recoiled in pain as the saline started burning its skin. I started crying and had to leave the room. Later, when the doctor reprimanded me for my reaction, I told her that the abortion was barbaric and that I would never help with one again.

I continued to care for the women who were having medical, “therapeutic” abortions. With these abortions, the labor is induced and the woman delivers an intact baby which will then slowly die by suffocation. We wrap the baby in a blanket and the parents often want to hold the baby they are killing and bond with it while it slowly suffocates, believing the lie they were told that the baby is not suffering. There was one that was performed for what were dubious reasons, but the patient and her family were adamant that it needed to be done. I arrived to work after the baby had already been born and had died. I was supposed to take the baby to wrap it to go to the morgue, but I took the baby to another room and held it while I cried. I never helped with another abortion after that.

When I tell my students this story, it is always with great difficulty and they can tell that it still upsets me to this day. I can still see that sweet little face of the dead baby. I am crying while I am writing this, because I helped kill babies.

Although I was personally against abortion and believed that it is murder, I also felt that I could not impose my opinion on others. I eventually realized that this makes no logical sense. If I truly believe that abortion is wrong, that it kills an innocent person, and if I understand the facts of science that prove it is murder, then how can I say that it is ever okay for anyone to have the right to make that decision? That is like saying that I think it is wrong to shoot the guy at the gas station, and I would not do it, but I cannot impose those beliefs on anyone else. It’s like saying that even though I think it would be wrong to hold a pillow over the face of the stroke patient in the acute care facility, I shouldn’t impose my beliefs on anyone else.

Who do we think we are that we can decide that the preborn baby matters less than any other living human? Is it okay to kill a person for convenience? Is this really the kind of society in which we want to live?

I once attended a town hall meeting held by an elected state representative who was strongly pro-choice. During the meeting she brought up the abortion issue and declared how proud she was of her support for women to have control of their own bodies and reproductive rights. I thanked her for bringing up the topic and proceeded to explain to her the information I have discussed with my nursing students. Many in attendance voiced agreement with my statements, and many also indicated they were not aware that the mother’s and baby’s blood do not mix and that the baby really is never a part of the woman’s body.

At this point, the representative told me that not everyone is a Christian and agrees with my opinion and that there is separation of church and state. I told her that I am a nurse who values human life, and my views are based in biology, human anatomy and physiology, and not a particular religion. The representative, now entirely frustrated, abruptly ended the meeting. Afterwards, several people approached me simply to tell me that they had learned a lot and consequently had changed their minds about being pro-choice.

I have come to the realization that Roe v. Wade of 1973 and Planned Parenthood v. Casey of 1992 will likely never be overturned. Abortion is a surgery, it has risks. At the hospitals where I have worked there have been many patients who come to the ER, hemorrhaging and infected after having abortions in clinics. It is obvious from the ruling of the Supreme Court, which undermined the efforts in Texas to improve patient safety by requiring abortion clinics to meet the same standards as an outpatient surgical center, that the real motivation behind the legalization of abortion is not to protect women from bad doctors and unsafe conditions. Kermit Gosnell, after all, still had plenty of patients. Neither is the motivation genuinely “for reproductive rights,” as the Left proclaims. Rather it is, above all, a money making venture.

So what is a pro-life person to do to try to protect the pre-born child from being murdered by its own mother when abortion is legal, easily accessible, and actually applauded as it was at the Democratic National Convention? I believe we need to become advocates of the preborn through educating people, even if it is one at a time. Every time you can educate one person, hopefully they in turn will educate another about the realities of what abortion is.

From my experiences at the town hall meeting and from teaching my students, I have realized that the majority of people who are pro-choice have taken that position because society has told them that it’s the reasonable, civilized position. It tells them that there is no logical conflict between being personally against abortion and not willing to “impose” your feelings on anyone else. Their positions have not been well thought-out or researched. Their positions are based on ignorance at the personal level and trust in a system which they believe to be morally upright and scientifically objective. However, once people become educated in the facts of biology and fetal development and they think about them rationally, they will more often than not come to change their attitudes towards abortion.

I have had numerous students tell me that they were very comfortable being pro-choice even though they were personally opposed to abortion. They say that after our conversation they realize how illogical that is, and that they are now pro-life. Other students were involved in school debates in which they were told they had to represent the pro-choice side of the abortion argument. This was their motivation for asking me what my position is. They said they were no longer pro-choice and could not argue for pro-choice because now they recognized that it is wrong.

What I’d like you to learn from this if you are pro-life is that you need not be afraid of speaking about abortion and your pro-life position with those who are pro-choice. The internet is full of vocal and volatile abortion advocates who want to intimidate you into silencing your voice, but do not be deceived into thinking that the majority of pro-choice people will be verbally abusive and hostile toward you. Most of them are actually reasonable people who can be reached and persuaded by the facts, but you have to be willing to present them with your well-reasoned arguments.

You can find similar opportunities to teach people as I do. Be prepared to answer questions with facts, and be polite and calm. You, too, can attend town hall meetings held by elected representatives. Regardless of what party the elected official belongs to, she is there to represent everyone, not just the members of the same party.

Pro-life advocates have been too focused on the legality of abortion – on the supply – and not focused enough on the demand. I have had patients, who had been planning on having abortions, but developed cramping and bleeding at 16 or 20 weeks and went to the emergency department. They are sent to labor and delivery where we treat them as we do all of our patients, with efforts to preserve the pregnancy. Part of the care includes a lot of teaching about what is going on, listening to the heart beat, and doing ultrasounds. We talk about their baby and what we are doing to make sure the baby is okay. These women will confide that they had been planning on getting an abortion but now that they have seen and heard their baby and see how much we cared about them and their baby, and treated the pregnancy as being important and special, they no longer want to get an abortion.

We can combat the abortion industry through education, through conversation with our friends and coworkers. It will not matter that abortion is legal if there is a dwindling demand, if the people have decided that they do not want what their progressive government is peddling. Our friends and family members and coworkers are listening, so it’s time we start offering a different message than the one that the media bombards them with.

If Hillary Clinton Overturns Hyde Amendment, 33,000 More Babies Will be Aborted Every Year

The Guttmacher Institute is the abortion industry’s think tank, formerly a “special research affiliate” of Planned Parenthood, whose analyses the media treats reverentially.

If you go to the Guttmacher Policy Review dated September 13, 2013, you’ll learn a primary reason that Hillary Clinton and the Democrat Party are determined to repeal the Hyde Amendment, an annually enacted law that prohibits federal Medicaid funding for abortion except in the cases of rape, incest or to save the life of the mother.

In the Review, you’ll find the conclusion that if the Hyde Amendment were repealed, “The number of abortions among Medicaid-eligible women nationwide would be expected to increase by approximately 33,000 [annually].”

Guttmacher sniffs that this would represent “only a 2.5% increase in the number of abortions performed nationwide,” although to anyone who does not draw a paycheck from the Abortion Industry or who has a heart, that is a lot of additional dead babies.

In fact, the impact would be even worse. As NRLC’s Federal Legislation Director Douglas Johnson noted, “It should be kept in mind that the 33,000 projection applies only to Medicaid, but the actual effects of losing the Hyde Amendment would be broader, because some other federal health programs (e.g., Indian Health Service) track the Hyde Amendment policy as well, either by law or as a political matter.”

Student Whose Parents Were Told to Abort Becomes Ms. Wheelchair America

A young Utah woman whose parents were told to abort her because she would be a “vegetable” just proved that every life deserves a chance.

Eliza McIntosh, a 21-year-old wheelchair-bound college student from Salt Lake City, recently was named Ms. Wheelchair America after she broke a world record in athletics . . .

McIntosh has spinal dysgenesis and is paralyzed from the waist down, according to the report. She hopes her life story will encourage other people with disabilities to see themselves as valuable and to pursue their dreams.

It’s what her parents did for her. Before she was born, doctors advised McIntosh’s parents to abort her because of her diagnosis. The family’s doctors predicted that Eliza would be in “a vegetative state” and have “no quality of life.”

“But my parents are very religious, so are against abortions regardless, and their attitude was ‘this is the hand we’ve been dealt with, so we’ll play it as well as we can’,” the young woman said. “They weren’t going to let me die, they decided to modify our home to make it more accessible and have never treated me any differently.”

The doctors were wrong. McIntosh has used a wheelchair for her whole life, but her condition is much less severe than the doctors predicted.

McIntosh said her parents never let her mope and always encouraged her to challenge herself.

“They instilled in me that I should know the difference between having a disability and being disabled,” she said. “Having a disability is something you’re born with, but being disabled means you let it stop you.”

Because of her parents’ encouragement and her determination, in 2011 McIntosh broke the Guinness World Record for the longest distance traveled while doing a wheelie. She held herself up for more than 12 miles, according to the report. The young athlete also plays wheelchair basketball for the USA Paralympic team. . . .

Stephanie Deible, director of Ms. Wheelchair America, said McIntosh is a strong example to people with disabilities.

“She’s broken a Guinness World Record, is an avid wheelchair basketball player and is out there trying to show people that life with a disability can be just as fulfilling as life without one,” Deible said.

Doctor Told Interns to Suffocate to Death Any Baby Who Survived an Abortion

Live Action News reported on a European physician who provided a heartbreaking narrative of a senior gynecologist telling her interns to suffocate a baby if it happens to be born alive after an abortion.

Donald Trump Will Address National Pro-Life Conference Next Month

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump will address a major national pro-life conference next month — the annual Values Voter Summit, an event that draws thousands of grassroots pro-life activists to the nation’s capital.

Trump is scheduled to speak Friday, September 9 — just 59 days before Election Day. This is the first time a Republican nominee for president has addressed the Values Voter Summit since its inception in 2006.

Both major party nominees have been invited to make their case to social conservative voters, but pro-abortion Democrat Hillary Clinton is not expected to attend. . . .

At the Values Voters Summit, confirmed speakers also include Senators Tom Cotton, Tim Scott, and James Lankford along with Governors Doug Ducey, Matt Bevin, and U.S. Reps. Animal Rights Activists Oppose Fishing Because Fish Feel Pain . . .

When the usual suspects advocate destroying a trillion dollar industry, it is one thing. But when an outdoors magazine sympathizes, attention must be paid. From, “Fish Have Feelings: Does That Mean We Are Torturing Them?,” published in Outside magazine:If fish feel pain, then many of us may have to rethink our life choices. We catch and eat nearly a thousand times more fish than terrestrial animals, and fishing practices in much of the world are barbaric. Conventional fishing kills millions of fish unnecessarily and most certainly subjects the animals to pain. “It really can’t be considered humane,” says Mary Finelli of Fish Feel.

Why do some folks abstain from eating land animals but shovel down pounds of cod? Finelli’s not sure. The Humane Society Institute’s Balcombe is equally puzzled by pescatarians who forgo livestock for moral reasons. “There isn’t any justification for eating a fish instead of chicken,” he says.
Like hunters are prime targets of animal rights activists, sports fishermen are now in the target zoneWhen it comes to sportfishing, researchers who study fish pain are less understanding. “You’re talking about piercing an animal through the face,” says Balcombe. “Sometimes through the eye. Probably a sensitive part of the body—they need those organs to sense things and find food. Then you reel it in by its weight, and it gets hauled out by its weight if you don’t have a net, then there’s asphyxiation if it’s not put back into the water.”

“It’s not necessarily intentionally cruel, but from the fish’s perspective, it involves pain,” he says. Brown, the Australian researcher, agrees. “I think most people would be horrified of a picture of someone standing triumphantly on top of an elephant. But fishing is no different. You see trophy pictures of fish all the time. It’s just not treated the same way.”
Remember, this is an outdoors magazine. And note, the story does not present a strong “pro-fishing” perspective.

The irony here is rich. Sharks could care less about the pain of the flounder, the seal, or the bitten human swimmer, for that matter.

Yet, animal rights activists deny human exceptionalism. Then they turn around and promote the idea that only we are not allowed to cause suffering in the way to fauna, no matter how much that might harm human thriving.

The issue of our moral obligations toward animal as unique and exceptional humans is important. But increasingly in the popular media, the arguments against eating meat, hunting, fishing, and all animal husbandry are all going in one direction.

Study Reveals: God is Good for Your Kids

by Susan L.M. Goldberg: According to recent neurological and psychological research, if you want your children to be happy, positive individuals who are resilient in the face of trauma, you should raise them with “healthy spiritual habits.”

Given recent statistics that show up to 25% of 13- to 18-year-olds are plagued with anxiety disorders, even the most non-religious parents should heed to this advice.
Columbia University psychologist and author Lisa Miller explains that there is a direct link between fostering a child’s spirituality and the neurological development of both intuition and perception during the challenging teen years. As a result, she advises parents to foster a strong spirituality in their children:“We can see the crisis in the making when spiritual development is neglected or when a child’s individual spiritual curiosity and exploration is denied,” she wrote. “In a culture where often enormous amounts of money, empty fame, and cynicism have become toxic dominant values, our children need us to support their quest for a spiritually grounded life at every age.”While community-based practices are edifying, the home is the primary source through which a child learns about God:Spiritual traditions in the home are also important. Research shows that family-based practices, such as bedtime prayers, family Bible studies, lighting Shabbos candles on Friday nights, and celebrating religious holidays, have an even greater impact on a child’s spirituality than time spent at Sunday school, youth group, catechism classes or other faith-based group programs.In other words, kids develop a healthy relationship with God through individual interaction, first with their parents, and also with extended family members and community groups. Don’t think you’re going to chalk your kid’s faith off to a teacher or an app. It’s one thing to decide not to join a church or a synagogue, but it’s an entirely different thing to raise your child in a home without God:The kids whose parents regularly attended religious services—especially when both parents did so frequently—and talked with their kids about religion were rated by both parents and teachers as having better self-control, social skills and approaches to learning than kids with non-religious parents.

But when parents argued frequently about religion, the children were more likely to have problems. “Religion can hurt if faith is a source of conflict or tension in the family.”
Parents should be careful not to confuse or replace a personal relationship with God with organized religion or religious practice. Another recent study concluded that while children's participation in a religious community edified their moral core, it is their personal connection to God that makes them truly happy.
