Trump Announces Leaders of Pro-life Coalition to Expose Hillary Clinton on Abortion

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump today announced the leaders of the new pro-life coalition dedicated to helping him expose the radical pro-abortion position of Hillary Clinton.

The new Coalition of pro-life leaders reads like a who’s who of the pro-life movement with people like Marjorie Dannenfelser, Gary Bauer, Sam Brownback, Alveda King, Father Frank Pavone, Tony Perkins and many others who have been spearheading pro-life efforts for decades. These pro-life leaders all believe Donald Trump will govern as a pro-life president if elected in November. . . .

These co-chairs head the newly created Pro-life Coalition in support of the Trump-Pence ticket. Last week, in a letter made public by Susan B. Anthony List, Trump announced the creation of the coalition and asked pro-life leaders for their support. In the letter, Trump also outlined four pro-life policy commitments.
Nominating pro-life justices to the U.S. Supreme Court.

Signing into law the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, which would end painful late-term abortions nationwide.

Defunding Planned Parenthood as long as they continue to perform abortions and reallocating their funding to community health centers that provide comprehensive health care for women.

Making the Hyde Amendment permanent law to protect taxpayers from having to pay for abortions.

Are Catholics Conflicted on Religious Liberty?

by Bill Donohue, Catholic League: A new Pew Research Center survey on religious liberty found that the public is split on the question of whether businesses that provide wedding services should be able to refuse same-sex couples if the owner has religious objections: 48% are in agreement and 49% are not. Catholics believe, by a margin of 54% to 43%, that businesses should be required to provide services to gay couples.

Other surveys provide a different outcome. Does this mean the Pew survey is flawed? No. It means that the wording of the question strongly influences the respondent’s answer. What also matters is whether self-identification is an accurate measure of reality.

For example, last December an AP and NORC Center for Public Affairs Research survey found that 82% of Americans said religious liberty protections were important to Christians. Similarly, 8 in 10 Americans said that it was very or extremely important for people like themselves to be allowed to practice their religion freely.

So when Americans are asked about their support for religious liberty in general—when there is no competing value they are asked to weigh—their commitment shines through. But in the real world, there is usually a conflict between rights.

Last fall, the Catholic League commissioned Kellyanne Conway of The Polling Company to survey Catholics on a range of issues, one of them being religious liberty. Catholics were asked, “Do you agree or disagree that private businesses with religious objections should be forced to provide services that violate their beliefs?” By a margin of 63% to 30%, they opposed compelling private businesses to provide services that violate their religious beliefs.

What about when the question is narrowed to wedding-related businesses? It makes no difference: 62% say it is mostly unfair and 29% say it is fair.

How can these differences be explained? Americans prize religious liberty but they also support equal treatment. When these values conflict, much depends on whether the respondent is being asked to defend government coercion or support equal treatment: the former is not popular, but the latter is.

In the Catholic League survey, we disaggregated on the basis of several criteria, among them being ideology. For example, when respondents were asked about whether businesses should be required to provide health coverage that violates their religious beliefs, Catholics in general took the side of the owner. There was one segment that favored coercion: they were identified as being the most liberal Catholics in the sample.

We know from other surveys that the most liberal Catholics are also the most likely to be non-practicing. Yet the Pew survey treated them as equals—no attempt was made to distinguish them from others. Therefore, it is likely that if non-practicing Catholics were factored out of the Pew survey, Catholics would appear less liberal on this issue.

Should non-practicing Catholics be included in samples of the Catholic population? Should Americans who identify themselves as vegetarian be included in a survey of vegetarians even if they occasionally eat steaks or hot dogs? It depends on whether self-identification is seen as a satisfactory measure of reality. To put it another way, if a man has male genitals, is he a woman because he says he is?

Postmodern sages who think truth is a myth are entitled to live in their world of make believe, but they are not entitled to our respect. Reality may be interpreted differently, but not all interpretations are equally valid.

Nets ‘Hyde’ Dem Push For Taxpayer-Funded Abortions

by Katie Yoder, Culture at the Media Research Center: he Democratic Party wants to force taxpayers to pay for abortion by repealing the Hyde Amendment, which turns 40-years-old this Friday. But Americans wouldn’t know that by watching the broadcast networks.

The Hyde Amendment, a legislative provision approved annually by Congress, bars federal funding (aka taxpayer funding) for abortion except in cases of rape, incest or to save the life of the mother. According to the Charlotte Lozier Institute, the research arm of the Susan B. Anthony List, more than 2 million Americans are alive today because of the amendment.

While politicians and abortion groups are making Hyde a big issue this election year, the networks aren’t. ABC, CBS and NBC have not once reported on the Democratic platform’s new language to repeal the Hyde Amendment during their morning or evening news shows.

In fact, network anchors and correspondents haven’t said the words “Hyde Amendment” in the past five years. The only reference to the amendment since Sept. 2011 came from ABC’s Good Morning America on Aug. 1, 2016 when the correspondent replayed clips of politicians saying “Hyde Amendment” rather than naming the provision himself.

But Hyde is a big deal – especially this year. Not only is the provision turning 40, but the 2016 Democratic Party Platform, approved in July, called for repealing the amendment.

“We will continue to oppose—and seek to overturn—federal and state laws and policies that impede a woman’s access to abortion, including by repealing the Hyde Amendment,”
the platform document reads.

That’s big news for the pro-life movement that condemns abortion for killing a human being, and even for abortion supporters who support religious freedom. But it wasn’t big news to the networks.

It wasn’t like ABC, CBS and NBC didn’t have the time. In July, the same month the Democratic platform was adopted, the networks spent 12 minutes, 11 seconds on Pokémon Go, a mobile game where players catch cartoon monsters, during their evening news shows.

Besides targeting the Hyde Amendment, the platform as a whole pledged allegiance to abortion:
“We believe unequivocally, like the majority of Americans, that every woman should have access to quality reproductive health care services, including safe and legal abortion—regardless of where she lives, how much money she makes, or how she is insured. We believe that reproductive health is core to women’s, men’s, and young people’s health and wellbeing.”

Not even giant pushback – from inside the party – convinced the networks to cover the story. In an op-ed for the Los Angeles Times, Democrats for Life Executive Director Kristen Day called out the new abortion language for “marginaliz[ing] the voices of 21 million pro-life Democrats.” . . . Another Pro-Life Group Endorses Donald Trump

Another pro-life organization has issued an endorsement for Donald Trump for president. This time it’s Cincinnati Right to Life and their political action committee which says Trump can be relied on to nominate pro-life justices to protect taxpayers from funding abortions and to defund the Planned Parenthood abortion business.

Cincinnati Right to Life follows a long list of pro-life groups that have issued endorsements or said that they support Trump over pro-aortion activist Hillary Clinton.

In an email to the pro-life organizations said Trump also would sign a pro-life law pending in Congress that would ban abortions after 20 weeks and that he supports protecting businesses like Hobby Lobby from being forced to pay for abortion causing drugs for their employees.

“This is a challenging time for the pro-life movement,” said Jack Hart, President, Cincinnati Right to Life PAC. “Donald Trump has pledged to take actions that will help protect innocent life and preserve religious liberty for all Americans. Hillary Clinton has promised to take actions that could set those efforts back a generation. Pro-life votes are critical in this election.” . . .Read More

Hillary, If You Really Believe “Every Life Matters and One Murder is Too Many,” Why Support Abortion?

Some said it was the most important 90 minutes of our time, but Monday night’s Presidential Debate between Republican Donald Trump and Democrat Hillary Clinton certainly did not live up to that billing, at least from a Pro-Life perspective.

In fact, the matter of abortion, the most crucial moral issue we face, was never mentioned despite social media blowing up with the #AskAboutAbortion hashtag.

That may be because abortion is a weakness in Hillary Clinton’s bid to be the first woman President of the United States, and the mainstream media, which tends to lean firmly to the left, doesn’t want Clinton’s moral weakness displayed.

Her partnership with Planned Parenthood, the largest supplier of abortions in the country, and her radical support for unrestricted abortion put her on the leftist fringe – far from the position of most Americans who are either pro-life, or are uncomfortable with various aspects of abortion, including tax funding and late-term abortions.

At few times during the 90 minute commercial-free debate, Clinton nevertheless revealed her insensitivity to matters related to Life issues.

At one point, during a discussion of racial unrest in America, Clinton stated, “Every life matters,” and “One murder is too many.”

Yet Clinton has nothing but love for her friends at Planned Parenthood who murder through abortion over 300,000 lives each year — a staggering loss of life. Despite her words, those lives simply do not matter to Clinton.

toomanyabortedThe fact that Planned Parenthood particularly targets minorities for abortion exploitation also seems to have escaped her.

“The ‘gun epidemic’ is killing more African-Americans than anything else,” Clinton said. I wondered where moderator Lester Holt was to “fact-check” that whopper.

In reality, abortion takes more African-American lives than all other annual causes of death combined! If Clinton really cared about “every life,” or about the true leading cause of death among African-Americans, she would sever ties with Planned Parenthood and work to shut down every abortion facility in the U.S. . . . Top 10 Abortion Questions Hillary Clinton Wasn’t Asked at the Debate

During last night’s first presidential debate between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton, debate moderator Lester Holt did not bring up the issue of abortion. Although the issue sparks a huge divide between the two candidates neither of them fielded any questions on the most important topics on the minds of the majority of American voters who are pro-life.

Specifically, Hillary Clinton was not asked about her extreme proportion view that has her supporting abortion up to birth and paid for by taxpayer dollars.

Here’s a list of 10 questions Holt could have asked the Democratic nominee about her radical pro-abortion positions.
  1. Why do you think an unborn child has no constitutional rights?
  2. Should an unborn child have any legal rights before he’s born?
  3. Why do you think Christians should be forced to change their views on abortion?
  4. Why do you think it’s okay to abort babies just because they ave Down Syndrome?
  5. Why did you pick a running mate who claims he is a Catholic in good standing while contradicting the pro-life views of the Catholic Church?
  6. Why do you “admire” population control activist Margaret Sanger?
  7. Why did you defend Planned Parenthood when it was caught selling aborted baby parts?
  8. Why did you laugh when someone removed “under God” from the pledge of allegiance?
  9. Why do you support late-term abortions on babies after 20 weeks?
  10. Why did you compare the majority of Americans who are pro-life to terrorists?

LGBT Rules in Churches In Massachucetts

by Kerby Anderson, Contributing Author: In just a few days, the nation’s strictest LGBT non-discrimination laws will go into effect in Massachusetts. According to the latest pronouncements from the state government, even churches and Christian schools will be affected since they are defined as public accommodations.

Any accommodation must allow patrons to use men’s or women’s restrooms as well as locker rooms and changing rooms that are “consistent with their gender identity.” Moreover, it requires that these venues must also “use names, pronouns, and gender-related terms appropriate to employee’s stated gender identity in communications with employee and with others.”

As Christians we believe that sex and gender are essentially the same thing. But the Massachusetts laws instead defines gender identity as “a person’s gender-related identity, appearance or behavior, whether or not that gender-related identity, appearance or behavior is different from that traditionally associated with the person’s physiology or assigned sex at birth.”

It doesn’t take much imagination to see where conflicts will arise between this latest transgender law and Christian teaching and church programs. Most churches hold events that are considered to be “open to the public.” Churches will probably welcome people of any sexual orientation, but they also will probably balk at opening up their bathroom or locker room facilities to transgendered people. They might find it difficult to use pronouns that are not consistent with biology. If pastors and teachers in Massachusetts churches teach on various biblical passages, a transgender person could take the church to court over the content of the sermon or Sunday school lesson.

Massachusetts was the first state to grant same-sex marriages. It now might be the first state with a lawsuit against a church over transgender issues, and that case might make it all the way to the Supreme Court.

Message for People Heading to New Planned Parenthood Abortion Clinic: “Welcome, We Kill Babies”

A new Planned Parenthood mega-clinic in Washington, D.C. is open for business this week, just across the street from a city elementary school.

The abortion facility is located next to the Two Rivers Public Charter School, a sought-after elementary school in Washington, D.C, much to the outrage of pro-lifers and parents. Construction on the new abortion center began more than a year ago after Planned Parenthood closed its smaller D.C. facility.

On Monday, someone wrote messages in chalk on the sidewalk outside the new abortion facility’s front doors. Daily Signal reporter Kelsey Harkness noticed it and posted a photo on Twitter.

Another image showed pro-lifers holding signs with messages such as “Protect them both.” As Harkness walked around the abortion facility, she said she could hear children playing in the school playground nearby. Her video report for the Daily Signal also captured sounds of the school children as she walked around the Planned Parenthood building.

Over the weekend, pro-lifers held a candlelight vigil outside the new abortion facility to pray for the moms, babies and abortion facility workers.

It is unclear when exactly the facility opened for business, but the abortion giant is celebrating the grand opening of its new D.C. facility this week. . . . Read More

Mike Pence: “There is No More Important Cause for My Wife and Me Than the Cause of Life”

Donald Trump’s vice presidential pick Mike Pence is pro-life both in word and action.

The Republican governor from Indiana has made a number of encouraging pro-life statements on the campaign trail, and his long, extensive pro-life record both as governor and a U.S. Congressman is strong evidence of his sincerity.

This week, Pence told an Arizona crowd that the “cause of life” is the most important issue of all to his family. He made the statement during an event Thursday at Living Word Bible Church in Mesa, near Phoenix, Arizona, according AZ Central.

Here’s more from the report:

During a question-and-answer session with Tom Anderson, Living Word Bible Church’s founder, Pence highlighted the Republican ticket’s anti-abortion bona fides.

“I speak on behalf of my wife and I, I would tell you there is no more important cause to the Pences than the cause of life,” Pence said.

Likewise, Trump “has made a clear commitment to the sanctity of human life,” Pence added, saying it is important to elect Trump so he can nominate U.S. Supreme Court justices. . . . Read More

Ted Cruz Endorses Donald Trump #NeverHillary

Ted Cruz endorses Donald Trump
Former Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz made it official today and endorsed Donald Trump for president. Cruz announced the endorsement in a post on his Facebook page:

This election is unlike any other in our nation’s history. Like many other voters, I have struggled to determine the right course of action in this general election.

In Cleveland, I urged voters, “please, don’t stay home in November. Stand, and speak, and vote your conscience, vote for candidates up and down the ticket whom you trust to defend our freedom and to be faithful to the Constitution.”

After many months of careful consideration, of prayer and searching my own conscience, I have decided that on Election Day, I will vote for the Republican nominee, Donald Trump.

I’ve made this decision for two reasons. First, last year, I promised to support the Republican nominee. And I intend to keep my word.

Second, even though I have had areas of significant disagreement with our nominee, by any measure Hillary Clinton is wholly unacceptable — that’s why I have always been #NeverHillary.

The Supreme Court will be critical in preserving the rule of law. And, if the next administration fails to honor the Constitution and Bill of Rights, then I hope that Republicans and Democrats will stand united in protecting our fundamental liberties.

Our country is in crisis. Hillary Clinton is manifestly unfit to be president, and her policies would harm millions of Americans. And Donald Trump is the only thing standing in her way.

A year ago, I pledged to endorse the Republican nominee, and I am honoring that commitment. And if you don’t want to see a Hillary Clinton presidency, I encourage you to vote for him. . . . Read More

Donald Trump Names Rick Santorum & Others As Pro-Life Key Advisers

Fresh from announcing a list of pro-life leaders who are advising him on issues that matter to pro-life voters, Donald Trump has named a group of pro-life Catholic leaders as additional key advisers, including pro-life former presidential candidate Rick Santorum.

The list of 33 advisers includes former Republican Sen. Rick Santorum, who ran for president in 2012 and 2016 and who was a leader on pro-life issues in Congress — including the ban on partial-birth abortions. Faith Whittlesey, former U.S. ambassador to Switzerland and a high-ranking political official in the Reagan White House is also on the list of pro-life Catholics advising Trump.

“The choice for Catholics in this presidential election could not be more stark,” Whittlesey said in a statement. ”

“Clinton support a breathtakingly radical cultural agenda and judicial nominees which leave no room for the legal protection of the unborn and the ability of Christians to fully and freely practice their faith that is constitutionally protected by the First Amendment,” she said. “Trump will fight for Catholics in defense of life, and their religious liberty.”

Joseph Cella, founder of the National Catholic Prayer Breakfast, is also involved as is Marjorie Dannenfelser, president of the pro-life Susan B. Anthony List, as well as Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback; Matt Schlapp, president of the American Conservative Union; former Oklahoma Gov. Frank Keating (R); U.S. Rep. Steve Chabot, Republican of Ohio; Jim Nicholson, former Republican national chairman, secretary of veterans affairs and ambassador to the Vatican; longtime conservative leader Richard Viguerie; and Tom Monaghan of Michigan, founder of Domino’s Pizza and the Ave Maria University. . . . If Planned Parenthood Thinks Black Lives Matter, It Should Stop Killing Them

In the past few months, the abortion chain Planned Parenthood has been eager to align itself with the Black Lives Matter movement, which came about in response to shooting deaths of black men by police.

However, the abortion chain is responsible for killing more black lives through abortion than guns and dozens of other causes combined. And more black Americans and pro-lifers are calling out Planned Parenthood for its ironic statements about violence against human lives. . . . read more

The UN Abortion Charade Continues

by Drs. Susan Yoshihara & Rebecca Oas: Mother Teresa’s canonization in Rome reverberated at an event in UN headquarters where top diplomats praised the saint as the very essence of the UN’s mission even if they had opposed her message on life and family issues in the past.

“Mother Teresa is the United Nations,” the Secretary-General, Javier Pérez de Cuéllar, said when he introduced Mother Teresa to the UN General Assembly in 1985. “Mother Teresa is peace in the world.”

His remarks were part of videos shown last week, which included the saint’s condemnation of abortion as “direct killing of a child” and “the greatest destroyer of peace.” For those following the abortion debate at the UN, it was a remarkable juxtaposition of the saint’s clear condemnation of abortion and unmitigated praise from countries that promote the policy.

The UN event was co-sponsored by the Holy See, along with the missions of India, Italy, Albania and the Former Yugoslavian Republic of Macedonia where the saint’s birthplace now resides.

Albania’s ambassador lamented that the only country that prohibited St. Teresa and her work was the saint’s native Albania. Because of that, St. Teresa never saw her mother after leaving home for an Irish convent at the age of 18. The ambassador noted that while the communist regime is long gone, the saint lives on in the name of the airport, the capital’s main boulevard, the hospital and many other places.

Albanians made a particularly strong showing at the canonization in Rome, filling entire sections of St. Peter’s Square. Albanian priests and religious sisters waved large red Albanian flags and remained cheerful throughout the hours-long ceremony and the relentless heat that sent many to the makeshift infirmary. Many of the 100,000 pilgrims spent the night on the street and formed long lines outside the tight security stations hours before the gates opened at 7am for the 10 am event.

The diversity of the crowds in Rome and the audience at the UN event demonstrates the common ground St. Teresa was able to help people find during her lifetime. While some pit a “peace and justice” focus against a “pro-life” emphasis at the UN and within the Catholic Church, the saint never allowed such a dichotomy.

St. Teresa always included the unborn child when she spoke of the “poorest of the poor.” In Rome, her pro-life message was seamlessly woven into the Pope’s “Year of Mercy” which among other things has focused on bringing fallen-away Catholics who disagree with Church teachings back into the fold.

At the UN, the organizers of the event honoring her made the same point when they included clips of her pro-life speeches under the theme “leave no one behind.” The phrase is one of the themes used by the UN and its agencies in the new set of development goals and in the recent World Humanitarian Summit.

It remains to be seen whether those countries who organized the event will put the message into practice in their foreign policy or in UN debates.

One UN agency has invoked the saint to fight against Catholic Church teaching that she defended during her lifetime. The Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights uses images of St. Teresa to promote homosexuality in its “Free and Equal” campaign.

New Oklahoma Abortion Clinic Owner Thinks She Can Kill 1,500 Babies a Year, Maybe Even 3,000

South Wind Women’s Center in Oklahoma City (SWWC-OC),
run by Kansas abortion advocate Julie Burkhart.
The new abortion facility in Oklahoma City has big plans for its business in the next few years.

Owner Julie Burkhart told ABC News that they hope to perform 1,500 abortions during the first year of business and increase to 3,000 abortions a year within the next few years. Her new Oklahoma abortion facility, Trust Women South Wind Women’s Center, began seeing patients last week. It is the first abortion business to open in the city in 40 years.

“If you look at this part of the country, there is a lack of access to reproductive health care, and frankly a lack of access to health care across the board,” Burkhart said. “It’s hard for women who want to give birth to find Ob/Gyns to help them deliver their babies.”

While the facility offers OB-GYN care, birth control and adoption information, its main focus appears to be abortions. If Burkhart meets her abortion goals, her new facility would increase Oklahoma’s abortion rate by more than 50 percent. On average, about 5,600 unborn babies have lost their lives to abortion every year in Oklahoma during the past decade, though the numbers have been decreasing in the past few years, according to state Department of Health reports.

Burkhart’s abortion business is offering later-term abortions, too. Oklahoma News 9 reports the facility will do abortions up to 21.6 weeks, a point very near viability when strong medical evidence indicates that unborn babies feel excruciating pain.

Local pro-lifers, including pregnancy centers, are preparing to increase their outreach in response to Burkhart’s new abortion business. Church-goers already have held several peaceful protests outside the facility. Some neighbors also are upset about the abortion business being so close to them because they believe it could lower their property values.

Two years ago, Oklahoma City’s last abortion facility closed, making it “the largest metro in America to have zero abortion facilities,” the local news channel noted. Last week, that changed when South Wind opened.

Burkhart and her abortion facilities have poor reputations for patient care and safety. She also runs an abortion facility in Kansas. Cheryl Sullenger, a leader of Operation Rescue, described Burkhart this way:

Burkhart is a militant pro-abortion activist who once worked for the notorious late-term abortionist George Tiller as head of his now-defunct political action committee. During that time, Burkhart was paid by Tiller to lobby against common sense laws that provided late-term abortion limits, as well as safety standards and accountability for abortion clinics. She also opposed efforts by [Kansas] Attorney General Phil Kline to investigate the non-reporting of child sex abuse at Kansas abortion clinics. . . . . Read More

Planned Parenthood CEO Opposes Paid Maternity Leave for Women

Planned Parenthood CEO Cecile Richards
So Pro-Abortion & Anti-Woman, it is hard
to believe she is a woman.  But
promoting the murder of babies &
physical injuries to women shows that
she is a shill for the demons in her life.
In her latest attack on presidential candidate Donald Trump, Planned Parenthood CEO Cecile Richards bashed his plan to offer women paid maternity leave.

Hillary Clinton is Planned Parenthood’s champion, and the abortion group is campaigning hard for her. And while Trump has made some questionable statements about abortion in the past, his new pro-life proposals are frightening abortion activists.

This week, Cosmopolitan gave Richards an outlet to criticize Trump’s recently announced plan for paid maternity leave. In the same breath, Richards praised Clinton’s promises to expand abortion, if elected.

Abortion activists like Richards often try to paint pro-life Republicans as hypocrites because some do not support government programs and mandates, such as paid maternity leave. Abortion activists cannot do that with Trump, so they had to find another way to attack him.

Richards wrote: “[Trump’s] half-baked proposal on maternity leave only applies to women who have given birth. This proposal, like his whole campaign, leaves out an entire swath of people in America who don’t fit his narrow version of what makes a family. It doesn’t respect the needs of fathers, or adoptive or fostering parents, and continues the myth of a 1950s world where women take care of children and men work.” . . .

She also attacked Trump for vowing to fight for the rights of unborn babies by appointing U.S. Supreme Court justices who will overturn Roe v. Wade and by de-funding Planned Parenthood as long as it continues to do abortions.

Outrageously, Richards also claimed that Trump’s pro-life policies would lead to “literally killing” women.

“To see how Trump’s policies would play out in real life, we need look no further than my home state of Texas,” Richards wrote. “Women in Texas face barriers to care [abortion], some of which are insurmountable, and it is literally killing them.”

As evidence, she cited a new report from Texas that showed maternal mortality rates increasing between 2010 and 2012. She blamed the uptick in deaths on Texas pro-life laws, even though the maternal death rate began climbing before the pro-life laws went into effect.

Later, the abortion chain CEO praised Clinton again and claimed that she would be “the strongest, most qualified candidate in history.”

Clinton’s proposed abortion policies would give Planned Parenthood exactly what it wants – more abortion business, fewer regulations and more of our tax dollars. Planned Parenthood has found its champion in Clinton, who promised them that she would try to repeal the Hyde Amendment and force taxpayers to fund abortions. . . . Read More

Obama Administration Says You’re “Racist and Intolerant” If You Believe in Religious Freedom

The Obama Administration released a concerning new report this month with recommendations that would chip away at Americans’ religious liberty.

The lengthy new report came from the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights. Called “Peaceful Coexistence: Reconciling Nondiscrimination Principles with Civil Liberties,” the report makes recommendations that it says would balance religious freedom with non-discrimination laws. However, the recommendations appear to be thinly veiled attempts to deny Americans’ their First Amendment right to religious freedom.

Commission Chairman Julian Castro wrote some very hostile words in his personal statement in the report:

“The phrases ‘religious liberty’ and ‘religious freedom’ will stand for nothing except hypocrisy so long as they remain code words for discrimination, intolerance, racism, sexism, homophobia, Islamophobia or any form of intolerance. … today, as in past, religion is being used as both a weapon and a shield by those seeking to deny others equality. In our nation’s past religion has been used to justify slavery and later, Jim Crow laws.”The report recommended that law and policy makers tailor religious exceptions “as narrowly” as possible, citing the “undue burden” that these exceptions place on “non discrimination law and policies.”

Another recommendation states: “Federal legislation should be considered to clarify that RFRA [the Religious Freedom Restoration Act] creates First Amendment Free Exercise Clause rights only for individuals and religious institutions and only to the extent that they do not unduly burden civil liberties and civil rights protections against status-based discrimination.” . . . read More

A Year After Planned Parenthood Was Exposed Selling Baby Parts . . .

. . . Have We Accomplished Anything?

by Melissa Ohden, It’s hard to believe that it’s been a year now since the Center for Medical Progress’ videos exposing Planned Parenthood’s practices came to light, raising the consciousness of the greater American public and individuals around the world about the practices of abortion and the harvesting of body parts.

It’s hard to believe that it’s now been just over a year since the ‘Planned Parenthood Exposed’ hearings were held, in which numerous experts and individuals impacted by abortion, like Sue Thayer, the former Planned Parenthood Director who is now a pro-life activist, Luana Stoltenberg, who is post-abortive and a tireless crusader for women and children through the efforts of Operation Outcry, and even those of us who have survived abortions–in particular, Gianna Jessen and myself, all testified in defense of lives being protected.

I’ve reflected a lot over the past year about where we’ve been as a nation historically when it comes to the protection of life, where we stand in regards to this currently, and where I think that we’re headed. I’ve shared those thoughts with others quite frequently over the years, but a question posed to me last weekend led me to contemplate about how this point in time, one year after the Planned Parenthood videos were shared and the hearings were held, is an important time to finally pen those thoughts onto paper.

“Where do you see the pro-life movement in regards to abortion in the next 10-15 years?”

This was the poignant question posed to me recently at the Montana Catholic Conference’s Culture of Life Conference in Helena.

It’s one of those questions that I know many of us involved in pro-life ministry and advocacy are asked, and certainly it’s one of those questions all pro-lifers reflect upon.

“I see that abortion will be unthinkable,” I replied. That’s not just a sound bite or a quip statement that I was making that day, in an attempt to answer that question. It’s what I truly believe, and I see well underway in our world today.

I’ll be honest with you. When I left that hearing last September, having testified before the House of Representatives committee, I was emotionally and physically spent. Exhausted. Yet, I found myself filled with an exuberance that was unshakable.

Yes, Gianna and I testifying together that day was a historic event. That put a bounce in my step.

Yes, I had faced my own fears and advocated for lives like ours in a forum that is, by and large, unfriendly and unsupportive of our cause and our lives, as survivors. That put a little more bounce in my step.

But my joy that day and in every day thereafter has come from witnessing the good that has come about from the CMP videos and the Planned Parenthood hearings.

If I can be brutally honest–I left the Rayburn building that hot September day in 2015 realizing that I don’t put my faith in the politicians there or elsewhere.

No offense to any legislators, especially those who have remained steadfast in their unwavering commitment to the protection of life from the moment of conception until natural death, but my faith stands in God alone.

And I left that day recognizing that no matter how anything proceeded with defunding Planned Parenthood, God would make good of it all.

He already had that day–I could feel it. His presence in that Congressional room was unmistakable.

He already had that day, as witnessed by the significant media coverage of the hearing and how social media further shared our testimonies far and wide before we had even stepped foot out of the building.

But the greatest good, the good that tells me that we are well on our way to abortion being unthinkable, has occurred outside of those Rayburn building doors.

What does this good look like?

It looks like videos of our testimonies before Congress being shared millions and millions of times.

It looks like individuals who were not previously interested or actively involved in pro-life efforts contacting me and countless others across the nation and in their local communities to discover how they could get involved.

It looks like many pregnancy centers experiencing a steady influx of volunteers and donors.

It looks like continued efforts like the 20-Week abortion ban and the Born Alive Act being introduced or discussed at the Federal level.

It looks like state after state defunding Planned Parenthood.

It even looks like abortion supporters no longer hiding behind words like choice but instead admitting that they know abortion ends a life and they will fight for this “right.” I think this is a very good thing…lies are being stripped away and those who are pro-abortion are seen as just that.

My list of the good that I have seen over this past year as a result of the CMP videos and Planned Parenthood hearings could continue on and on. But instead of continuing on in my list, I would love to hear from you–what are some of the good things that you have seen over this past year?

Macy’s Sordid History: Abortion, Gay Marriage

by Bill Donohue, Catholic League: No one should be surprised that Macy’s would be involved in promoting left wing social causes. After all, they fired a Catholic employee for simply disagreeing with their policy of allowing “transgender” men to use the women’s bathrooms (click here).

And sure enough, they have been listed as a Bronze level partner of the Human Rights Campaign, a leading crusader for same sex marriage. They’ve also supported the Tides Foundation, which promotes efforts “to shift the landscape” on gay marriage.

The Macy’s Foundation has also made direct contributions to a number of pro-abortion groups—including Planned Parenthood, which is not only the nation’s leading abortion provider, but also traffics in the sale of body parts of aborted babies.

Something to remember as the holiday season approaches, when Macy’s clamors to capitalize on the spirit of family and faith in its appeals to consumers.

Zika Funding Might Result in Raise for Planned Parenthood . . .

by Kelsey Harkness, The Daily Signal: Fears are mounting among some conservatives that under a Republican-controlled Congress, Planned Parenthood could soon be getting a raise.

“I hope that pro-lifers will wake up and realize that we have major issues when it comes to the U.S. Senate, when we have our ‘friends’ put us in very tough positions,” Tom McClusky, vice president of government affairs for the pro-life group March for Life Action, told The Daily Signal.

McClusky said he and other pro-life groups have been involved in ongoing discussions with House and Senate leadership regarding a government spending measure that is expected to include emergency funding for the Zika crisis. The concern, McClusky said, is the possibility that Planned Parenthood will get more government funding as a result of the Zika spending bill.

Republican leadership in the House and Senate have not yet released language detailing what the spending package will include, and thus far, they maintain that Planned Parenthood will not get more funding. Democrats, however, say they refuse to agree to any spending measure that bars Planned Parenthood or any of its affiliates from receiving funding.

Backdoor negotiations, McClusky said, don’t look good for pro-life groups.

“The most current language, we’re not happy with at all,” McClusky said. “There’s a number of things that Sen. [Mitch] McConnell has given his approval to that we disagree with—Zika being the major one.”

The Daily Signal reached out to McConnell’s office, but an aide said they are not commenting until the bill’s language has been released.

Conservatives are calling for a specific prohibition against Planned Parenthood and its affiliates from receiving Zika funds, which is precisely what Democrats say they’ll reject. Anything short of that, they say, will wind up landing the nation’s largest abortion provider more money.

“Planned Parenthood is like a pig searching for truffles,” McClusky said. “If [money] is there, they’re going to go searching it out.”

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2,920 Americans have been infected with Zika while traveling overseas, and 43 people have been infected locally in Florida.

In Puerto Rico, Zika infections are “increasing rapidly,” according to the CDC, with 17,315 locally acquired cases.

Zika is known to cause microcephaly in as many as 13 percent of infants. Microcephaly is a severe birth defect that results in a baby’s head to be unusually small and its brain to be underdeveloped.

Conservatives argue that it makes no sense to allocate Zika funds to Planned Parenthood, which operates only two branches in Puerto Rico that are only able to provide limited services. Instead, they argue Zika health-related funds should go to federally qualified health centers that are equipped to treat the virus and its effects on patients and children, both born and unborn. In Puerto Rico, there are 20 federally qualified health centers, according to the Kaiser Family Foundation.

According to CQ Roll Call, McConnell, R-Ky., the Senate majority leader, is planning a procedural vote on the spending measure for Monday.

If the measure doesn’t specifically prohibit Planned Parenthood from receiving funds, Rachel Bovard, director of policy services at The Heritage Foundation, said Republicans will ultimately “give Planned Parenthood a raise.”

“During this year’s reconciliation process, the Republican majority in both chambers made clear that their position was to defund Planned Parenthood entirely,” she said. “Now, in the [continuing resolution], congressional Republicans are looking to give Planned Parenthood a raise by giving them their annual appropriation in addition to money for Zika.”

Deadly Lies That Kill Babies

Women cannot meet their potential without
one of these, according to Planned Parenthood
by Judie Brown, American Life League: What is it about some headlines? You know what the words are telling the unsuspecting public, but you also know that lies are still lies.

Take this one for example: “Plunge in Teen Pregnancies Shows Way to Reduce Abortions.” The article is about the falling rate in teen pregnancy—a national trend that is alleged to be happening because of the growing number of teens who are becoming aware of the effectiveness of long-acting contraceptive methods such as intrauterine devices and contraceptive implants. The problem is that IUDs and those pesky implants are methods of preventing pregnancy that act in at least one way that also results in the death of a preborn child. And while the news reports tell us that “reducing the need for an abortion is a common goal,” the facts immediately call such cleverly-worded propaganda slogans into question.

A simple examinationCarnegie Stages of Human Development. Once the human being begins, he travels to the wall of his mother’s uterus. That trip can take somewhere between six and eight days.

It is during this time that the IUD or the contraceptive implant can do its dirty work, chemically ending the life of the child by making it impossible for him to implant into his mother’s uterine wall. If that occurs, the baby is silently aborted. This is why the culture of death mavens are so excited about their new ploy, designed to deceive and destroy in one fell swoop.

Back to the biology.

The IUD’s modes of action state: “IUDs produce alterations of the uterine environment in terms of a pronounced foreign body reaction.” In the cases where the IUD works post-fertilization, we are talking about abortion. There is no doubt scientifically that a preborn child’s life begins at Carnegie stage 1 and therefore anything that acts to in any way end that life once it has begun is abortion. Case closed.

Moving on to the contraceptive implant, we find that its mode of action can be equally as deadly. Contraceptive implants can work in several different ways, including one that changes the status of the endometrium. The endometrium is the lining of the uterus where the baby has to implant in order to continue to develop. When the endometrium is thinned, the baby is starved and dies. That is abortion.

Therefore, if an argument is made that pregnancy rates among adolescents are decreasing, and if the reason for the decline is attributed to the wider use of long-acting contraceptive methods like the IUD and/or the implant, we must be prepared to say in no uncertain terms that such statements are totally false.

The pregnancies that are not being acknowledged as existing are still pregnancies. The babies whose silent deaths are never tabulated are still babies who die because of long-acting reversible contraception. Lying about it does not change the truth of it.

Donald Trump Is Committed To Defunding Planned Parenthood

In a new letter today outlining pro-life policy specifics, Donald Trump announced support for defunding the Planned Parenthood abortion business if it does not stop killing unborn children in abortion. Since the abortion corporation has no intention of doing so, Trump believes federal taxpayer dollars should not flow to it. . . . .

In an interview with David Brody of CBN, Trump made that promise:

David Brody: “As a President Trump, if a bill came to your desk that would defund Planned Parenthood you would support that, you would sign that?”

Donald Trump: “Yes, because as long as they do the abortion I am not for funding Planned Parenthood… As long as they’re involved with abortion, as far as I’m concerned forget it, I wouldn’t fund them regardless. I would defund Planned Parenthood because of their view and the fact of their work on abortion…. I am for defunding Planned Parenthood as long as they are involved with abortion.” . . . Read More

Donald Trump Calls for Permanently Banning Taxpayer Funding of Abortions

Donald Trump today has issued a call to make permanent the Hyde Amendment that bans almost all federal taxpayer funding of abortions and is credited with saving the lives of over 1 million Americans from abortion. Trump-‘s call comes as Hillary Clinton is campaigning in reversing Hyde and forcing Americans to fund free abortions for women with their tax dollars.

Every year, Congress is forced to fight the battle to protect Americans from being forced to pay for abortions with their tax dollars. Democrats annually fight the pro-life budget provision and hope they can eventually reverse it should they take control of both the White House and Congress.

That has led to pro-life groups calling to the adoption of a permanent law putting Hyde in place long-term and making it more difficult for pro-abortion forces to reverse. Today, Trump announced his support for such a law.

The call for banning taxpayer funding of abortions comes in a new letter from Trump. Trump commits to a new policy: “Making the Hyde Amendment permanent law to protect taxpayers from having to pay for abortions.”

“Hillary Clinton’s unwavering commitment to advancing taxpayer-funded abortion on-demand stands in stark contrast to the commitments I’ve made,” Trump writes, “to advance the rights of unborn children and their mothers when elected president.” . . . Read More

AMA Considering Abandoning Decades-Long Opposition to Assisted Suicide

by Jennifer Popik, Life News: There is an effort currently underway within the American Medical Association (AMA) to abandon its decades-long position opposing assisted suicide and take a neutral stance.

At its July 2017 annual meeting, the AMA will consider taking a “neutral” position which essentially sends a green light to the states that legalizing is acceptable. However, we have recently been made aware that the AMA will hold an interim meeting on November 13 and 14 in Orlando where a special breakout session will be held on assisted suicide.

Both the national and state medical societies’ opposition to doctor-prescribed suicide have been instrumental in stopping the spread of these dangerous laws. In fact, when the Vermont and California medical societies took neutral positions, it was devastating to the efforts in the legislature to block legalization. Assisting suicide is now legal in Oregon, Washington, Vermont, and California, and the practice may have some legal protection in the state of Montana.

The AMA should retain its longstanding position in opposition to the legalization of assisted suicide because:
  • Medical professionals should focus on providing care and comfort to patients – NOT becoming a source of lethal drugs. I would not want my doctor to have this power and suggest suicide to me as an “option.”
  • Will the government and insurance companies do the right thing – pay for treatment costing thousands of dollars – or the cheap thing – pay for lethal drugs costing hundreds of dollars?
  • Everyone knows someone who has been misdiagnosed or outlived a terminal diagnosis.
  • Wanting to die because of depression is treatable. Millions of people are living proof.
  • Everyone agrees that dying in pain is unacceptable, however nearly all pain is now treatable. A patient in pain should find a new doctor.
  • Oregon is proof that general suicides rise dramatically once assisted suicide is promoted as a “good.”
  • My family member could die from taking lethal drugs and I wouldn’t know about it until he/she is dead because no family notification is required in advance.
  • Assisted suicide is a recipe for elder and disability abuse because it can put lethal drugs in the hands of abusers.
  • A relative who is an heir to the patient’s estate or an abusive caregiver can pick up the lethal drugs and administer them without the patient’s knowledge or consent. There is no oversight and no witnesses are required once the lethal drugs leave the pharmacy
Please contact the following and urge the American Medical Association to retain its position against assisted suicide:

Group Calls for Free Abortions, But Bishops Slam Abortion as “An Assault on Human Dignity”

Catholic leaders across the country are speaking out against a new campaign claiming that abortion is a “Catholic social justice value” and calling for taxpayer-funded abortions.

In a joint statement, a group of Catholic bishops said the campaign completely misrepresents the Catholic Church’s teachings on abortion and the sanctity of human life.

The pro-abortion group “Catholics for Choice,” which calls itself Catholic but is not affiliated with the church, launched a series of full-page newspaper ads this week to urge Catholics to support taxpayer-funded abortions. The pro-abortion ads have appeared in two dozen newspapers across the country this week. The Houston Chronicle reports the group plans to spend $400,000 on the campaign this year and $400,000 in 2017.

The full-page ad that ran in the Chicago Tribune had the bold heading “Abortion In Good Faith” and the photo of a woman described as a Catholic grandmother and former state legislator. . . .

Catholic bishops responded to the misleading ads with the following statement: “It is not clear why Catholics for Choice chose a handful of individuals identifying themselves as Catholics as ambassadors for the false premise that refusal to pay for someone’s abortion is an assault on anyone’s God-given dignity. The only assault on dignity in this discussion is the abortion, which ends one life irrevocably and diminishes countless other lives.”

In a column at LifeNews, Cardinal Timothy Dolan also rebuked the group for encouraging Catholics to support the killing of unborn babies.

“CFC’s extreme ads promote abortion as if it were a social good,” Dolan wrote. “But abortion kills the most defenseless among us, harms women, and tears at the heart of families. Pushing for public funding would force all taxpaying Americans to be complicit in the violence of abortion and an industry that puts profit above the well-being of women and children.” . . . Powerful UN Agencies Pressure Catholic Church on Contraception, Homosexuality, Masturbation

by Austin Ruse (CFAM): Three powerful UN agencies are sponsoring the release of a document next week that calls for the Catholic Church to change her teachings on contraception, but also mentions that teachings on homosexuality, masturbation and in vitro fertilization should be changed as well.

The document was prepared by dissident ex-priest John Wijngaards, who is based in the United Kingdom, and has been signed so far by more than 100 dissenting Catholic academics and a small number of non-Catholics.

The document is being released in preparation for the 2018 50th anniversary of the Papal encyclical Humanae Vitae, which restated the ancient teaching of the Church that contraception is morally wrong and can never be allowed between married Catholics.

The Wijngaard statement takes aim at the infallibility of the Catholic teaching on contraception. The statement argues that Humanae Vitae cannot be considered infallible because it is not a “revealed” truth, nor does it explain or defend a truth of “Christian revelation.”

The scholars, from universities around the world, argue that the marital act need not be open to the transmission of life since the marital act has many other purposes including “pleasure, love, comfort, celebration, and companionship.”

The document calls for a new and democratic process in the Church whereby “experts” would examine various issues and determine what the new Catholic teaching might be. These experts would include more than just Catholics. The signers hope that such a conclave of experts would also look into changing Church teaching on masturbation, homosexual relationships, and in vitro fertilization.

The UN angle in the document is strong. It mentions the now-defunct Millennium Development Goals. Moreover, the release of the document is being sponsored by the UN Population Fund, UN Women, and UN AIDS, powerful agencies with combined budgets of more than a billion dollars a year.

Advocates of UN-style family planning, including in some cases the establishment of coercive programs of population control, have long viewed the Catholic Church as their primary opponent. They believe the Church stands in the way of universal acceptance of “modern means of contraception.”

According to the United Nations, the world is actually awash in contraceptives. There are only a few places on earth where contraceptives are not widely used. UN advocates assert that women suffer from what they call an “unmet need” for modern contraceptives. As Rebecca Oas of C-Fam has repeatedly reported, “unmet need” is a political rather than a medical term and includes women who have moral and religious objections to the use of contraceptives, and even women who do not use them because they want to have babies.

It is revealing that the document does not refer to Catholic teachings on contraception, which date to the ancient Church, but refers instead to the Catholic “stance” on contraception, as if it is no more than a policy prescription.

The man behind the document, John Wijngaards, has dissented from Catholic teachings for most of his career. He left the priesthood over Catholic teaching on women’s ordination.

The document will be released on September 20 at the Salvation Army Auditorium in New York.
Austin Ruse is President of the Center for Family and Human Rights (C-Fam). Ruse or his team have participated in every major UN social policy negotiation since 1997 including the multi-year negotiations that created the International Criminal Court.

New Video Destroys the False Claim That Abortion is Just 3% of What Planned Parenthood Does

Live Action’s newest video project is exposing more of Planned Parenthood’s lies.

As much as the abortion chain promotes abortion among its friends, it knows that most Americans are morally troubled by abortion. The fact that Planned Parenthood does about one third of all abortions in the U.S. is a “public relations problem,” the Live Action video says.

To appeal to the general public and justify the millions of taxpayer dollars it receives, Planned Parenthood uses clever statistical manipulations to claim that abortions are only 3 percent of its overall services. The Live Action video debunks this claim.

“Even the Washington Post and have called out the abortion chain for its deception,” said Lila Rose, president and founder of Live Action. “Three percent is not a real number, but over 320,000 abortions a year and a 30 percent market share of all U.S. abortions are.”

The deception becomes apparent just by dividing the number of abortions by the number of patients the group sees every year. Using numbers taken from Planned Parenthood’s annual report, the video explained that one in eight of its patients gets an abortion.

“To justify its half billion dollars in taxpayer funding, Planned Parenthood downplays abortion – falsely claiming that it only makes up three percent of its business – and instead plays up its cancer screenings and so-called ‘women’s health care,’” Rose said. “However, Planned Parenthood’s own numbers prove it’s an abortion corporation focused on abortion, not on women’s health care.”

The services that Planned Parenthood likes to talk about publicly, such as pap tests and breast exams, make up less than 2 percent of the market share nationwide, according to the video. In contrast, the abortion chain performs almost one third of all abortions in the U.S. That’s one abortion every 97 seconds, or about 320,000 every year, according to its annual report.

Live Action broke down the numbers:
  • Planned Parenthood’s U.S. market share for Pap tests is 0.97% (less than 1%). It performed 271,539 tests in fiscal year 2014-15, out of 28.1 million tests nationwide
  • Planned Parenthood’s U.S. market share for clinical breast exams is 1.8% (less than 2%). It performed 363,803 exams in fiscal year 2014-15, out of 20 million exams nationwide. (Note: These are physical exams, not mammograms. Planned Parenthood does not perform mammograms.)
  • Planned Parenthood’s U.S. market share for abortions is 30.6%. It committed 323,999 abortions in fiscal year 2014-15, out of approximately 1.06 million abortions nationwide.
  • Planned Parenthood aborts 160 children for every one child it refers out for adoption.
“It’s easy to see where Planned Parenthood’s priorities are,” according to the video. “They commit 160 abortions for every one adoption referral.”

Rose said they created the video as an educational tool to expose one of Planned Parenthood’s “biggest lies.”

“Planned Parenthood is spending the most it ever has — and double what it spent in 2012 — to influence this year’s election. Citizens have a right to know the truth behind an organization that has their politicians’ ears,” Rose said.

Hillary Clinton Moved From “Safe, Legal & Rare” to Forcing You to Pay For Abortions

Approximately 1 million abortions are performed in the United States each year, but that isn’t enough for Hillary Clinton and her allies in the abortion industry.

The Democratic presidential candidate, who once stated that abortion should be “safe, legal and rare,” now wants to expand abortions by forcing taxpayers to pay for them through Medicaid. It’s an extreme position that a strong majority of Americans oppose, but it’s a key goal for the abortion industry – and one that would benefit them hugely.

In a column for The Washington Times, Live Action President and Founder Lila Rose explained how the abortion industry has “hijacked” Clinton’s campaign for its own radical agenda, spending millions of dollars and hours to get her elected. . . .

Abortion activists no longer claim they want abortion to be rare. They are abandoning the “pro-choice” label, too, and openly pushing a pro-abortion agenda. Last week, a coalition of abortion groups even held a celebrity-packed event to celebrate abortion and proclaim it “good.”

The abortion industry has found its “champion” in Clinton, who dropped the “rare” from her abortion position to fit with the new abortion-is-good agenda. In July, Planned Parenthood Vice President Dawn Laguens praised Clinton as the “strongest” pro-abortion nominee “we’ve ever seen.”

Planned Parenthood, NARAL, Emily’s List and others have been funneling millions of dollars into Clinton’s campaign because they know that the future of the U.S. Supreme Court and abortion law is at stake. Clinton promised to appoint U.S. Supreme Court judges who will uphold Roe v. Wade and abortion on demand up to birth for years to come. . . . Read More

Catholics for Choice Gambit Fails

Pro-life supporter Katherine Aguilar holds a crucifix
and prays in the State Capitol rotunda in Austin, TX
(AP Photo/Tamir Kalifa via the Catholic League)
by Bill Donohue: Advocacy campaigns, especially when conducted in the print media, are very expensive. Fortunately, whether they work or not is not hard to determine: if they generate a lot of controversy, they work; if not, they fail. Catholics for Choice's (CFC) latest effort has failed. Indeed, it is a monumental failure.

How do I know? Two days after its print advertisement blitz in several newspapers, it has been cited in less than a half-dozen papers. Even that is an exaggeration: the only place it garnered any attention is in the letters section. More bad news: the letters-to-editor are uniformly critical of CFC. Most important, there has not been a single news story about its bigoted campaign in any newspaper in the nation.

Here are some indisputable facts. CFC is not Catholic: it is expressly anti-Catholic. Its idea of choice does not extend to safeguarding the premier human choice—the right to be born. In fact, it works tirelessly to undermine this fundamental right. It is not an organization: it is a letterhead greased by the establishment; it has no members. Twice condemned as a fraud by the bishops, it is kept alive solely by such sources as the Ford Foundation, the MacArthur Foundation, and the [Warren] Buffett Foundation. Rank-and-file Catholics have nothing to do with it.

CFC's latest gambit is two-fold: It wants the public to pay for abortions; it wants the public to believe that child abuse in the womb is a legitimate Catholic social justice issue.

This is a war it cannot win. First, the public is strongly opposed to taxpayer-funded abortions, and this includes a large swath of those who are not pro-life. Second, there is nothing in Catholic social teachings that justifies the intentional killings of innocent human beings.

The latest campaign by CFC has a long pedigree.

CFC was founded in 1973 as Catholics for a Free Choice, setting up shop in the headquarters of New York's Planned Parenthood office building. Once Roe v. Wade legalized abortion, CFC joined with the Religious Coalition for Abortion Rights, moving decisively to counter efforts for a Human Life Amendment.

Its first president, Father Joseph O'Rourke, was expelled from the Jesuits in 1974; he served as CFC president until 1979. Frances Kissling took over in 1982 and has been more responsible for shaping its agenda than anyone else. Jon O'Brien succeeded Kissling in 2007.

In October 1984, CFC ran an ad in the New York Times titled "Catholic Statement on Pluralism and Abortion." Not surprisingly, it was designed and marketed by Planned Parenthood. The ad illegitimately maintained that there were "legitimate Catholic positions" on abortion. Such reasoning fast became a staple of CFC's agenda. Today, it is being prominently promoted by Senator Tim Kaine, vice presidential candidate for the Democratic Party; he also supports CFC's call for taxpayer-funded abortions.

CFC continued in the 1980s hawking the line that there is "an authentic prochoice Catholic position." It was due to lies such as this that on November 4, 1993, the bishops released a statement saying CFC is not "an authentic Catholic organization." Indeed, it stressed that "It has no affiliation, formal or otherwise, with the Catholic Church." It issued a similar condemnation in 2000.

Perhaps the most severe blow to the reputation of CFC came on April 21, 1995. That was the day the National Catholic Reporter, a dissident newspaper that rejects the Church's teachings on sexuality, printed a letter by Marjorie Reiley Maguire blasting CFC. She was a prominent CFC activist for years, and no one doubted her credentials or credibility. But like many others who came of age in the 1960s, Maguire began to have second thoughts; included in her intellectual migration were second thoughts about CFC and Catholicism.

In her letter, Maguire branded CFC "an anti-woman organization," one whose agenda is "the promotion of abortion." She argued that Kissling's organization defended "every abortion decision as a good, moral choice," adding that it pursued a "related agenda of persuading society to cast off any moral constraints about sexual behavior."

Maguire explained that it was not the Catholic Church that was "hung up on sex;" rather, it was liberals who were obsessed with sex. Questioning the right of CFC to call itself Catholic, Maguire said that "When I was involved with [CFC] I was never aware that any of its leaders attended Mass. Furthermore, various conversations and experiences convinced me they did not."

Nothing has changed since. In other words, CFC is the propaganda arm of pro-abortion anti-Catholics, funded by fat cats. Its latest campaign is such a bust that one wonders just how stupid its donors are. When the best it can muster is a few letters-to-the-editor nationwide—and they all slam CFC as a fraud—then it's time to regroup. Better yet, it's time to pack it in.
