Indiana House Passes Bill Making It Harder to Open New Abortion Clinics

The Indiana House today approved by a 67-26 vote a multi-faceted bill requiring the reporting of abortion complications that injure women while creating tougher requirements for abortion businesses applying for licensing in Indiana. The bill also sets the stage for expansion of safe haven baby boxes at fire stations in Indiana to help save newborn babies at risk of abandonment.

Senate Bill 340 requires that physicians, hospitals or abortion clinics must report to the state each case when a woman is injured by an abortion. Complications required to be reported include uterine perforation, cervical perforation, infection, hemorrhaging, respiratory arrest, shock, or incidents in which parts of an aborted baby are left within the woman. The report must also include any indication that the woman treated was seeking an abortion as a result of abuse, coercion, harassment or trafficking.

The bill also tightens the process for abortion licensing in Indiana by requiring that applicants disclose whether it has operated an abortion clinic that was closed due to health and safety concerns, whether a principal or staff members has been convicted of a felony, and whether a principal or staff member was ever employed by a facility owned or operated by the applicant that closed as a result of administrative or legal action.

In addition, the bill provides conditions under which safe haven baby boxes can be expanded at Indiana fire departments, including volunteer fire departments, that are staffed by an emergency medical services provider. . . . Read More

Billy Graham Dead At 99

. . . Famed evangelist preached to more than 2.2 billion

Billy Graham
by Art Moore: Billy Graham, America’s best-known evangelist and a spiritual adviser to 11 presidents who preached to more than 2.2 billion souls in more than seven decades of ministry, died Wednesday at the age of 99.

The Billy Graham Evangelistic Association said he died at his home in Montreat, North Carolina, from “natural causes.”

Born Nov. 7, 1918, on a dairy farm near Charlotte, North Carolina, William Franklin Graham Jr. became a believer in Jesus Christ at the age of 16 during a series of revival meetings and went on to lead hundreds of evangelistic “crusades” in which he famously invited members of vast stadium and arena audiences to “come forward and accept Jesus Christ as your personal savior.”

“My one purpose in life is to help people find a personal relationship with God, which, I believe, comes through knowing Christ,” Graham once said.

He counted it a privilege to preach the Gospel “on every continent in most of the countries of the world.”

“I have found that when I present the simple message of the Gospel of Jesus Christ with authority and simplicity, quoting the Word of God, He takes that message and drives it supernaturally into the human heart.”

Graham knew from personal experience the “human heart is the same the world over.”

“Only Christ can meet the deepest needs of our world and our hearts,” he declared. ‘Christ alone can bring lasting peace – peace with God, peace among men and nations.”

‘Jesus coming soon’ -  On the day of his 95th birthday, Nov. 7, 2013 – celebrated by about 900 people at a hotel in Asheville, North Carolina – Graham released a 30-minute video message broadcast on the Fox News Channel, on other networks and on the Internet titled “The Cross” as part of an outreach called “My Hope America with Billy Graham.” Graham summarized his aim: “With all my heart I want to leave you with the truth that He loves you and wants to forgive you of your sins.”

Graham told WND in an exclusive interview in 2013 he still believed people need to repent of their sins, turn to God and “take the narrow road that Jesus talks about in the Bible.”

He told WND he believed the signs of the end of the age are “converging now for the first time since Jesus made those predictions.”

In his 2013 book “The Reason for My Hope: Salvation,” Graham wrote the second coming of Jesus Christ is “near” and the United States “can’t go on much longer in the sea of immorality without judgment coming.”

“We have been going down the wrong road for a long time,” Graham told WND. “Seemingly, man has learned to live without God, preoccupied and indifferent toward him and concerned only about material security and pleasure.

Family legacy -  His wife, Ruth, born in China to missionary parents, died in June 2007 at age 87 after 63 years of marriage. He is survived by their five children, Virginia Leftwich “Gigi” Graham Tchividjian, Anne Graham Lotz, Ruth Graham, William Franklin Graham III and Nelson “Ned” Graham. He also leaves 19 grandchildren and more than 28 great-grandchildren, including grandson Tullian Tchividjian, who succeeded Rev. D. James Kennedy as senior pastor of Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

His oldest son, Franklin Graham, succeeded him as president and CEO of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association in 2000. Franklin Graham also directs the major international Christian relief organization Samaritan’s Purse.

When his wife died at their mountaintop home in Montreat, North Carolina, near Asheville, Graham stated he and his “life partner” had been “called by God as a team.”

“No one else could have borne the load that she carried,” he said. “She was a vital and integral part of our ministry, and my work through the years would have been impossible without her encouragement and support.”

Graham said that in their final years together they “rekindled the romance of our youth, and my love for her continued to grow deeper every day.”

“I will miss her terribly and look forward even more to the day I can join her in Heaven,” he said.

The couple met as students at the evangelical liberal arts school Wheaton College, near Chicago. Graham said that when their eyes first met as he came across her walking down a road, “I felt that she was definitely the woman I wanted to marry.”

Hour of decision -  One of America’s most recognizable figures, Graham was listed as No. 8 on Gallup’s list of the most admired people of the 20th century. According to his staff, he preached the Gospel to live audiences of an estimated 215 million in more than 185 countries and territories. In addition – through the use of television, video, film and webcasts – he spoke to a combined audience of more than 2.2 billion.

His weekly radio program, “Hour of Decision,” was broadcast for more than 50 years, and his city Gospel events were seen in prime time on television.

Along with his syndicated newspaper column, “My Answer,” and monthly Billy Graham Evangelistic Association magazine, Decision, Graham was the co-founder of the leading evangelical magazine Christianity Today in 1956.

Graham also launched World Wide Pictures, producer and distributor of more than 130 films.

He wrote 27 books, which included numerous best-sellers. Among them were his memoir, “Just As I Am,” released in 1997. His 1983 book “Approaching Hoofbeats: The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse” was on the New York Times best-seller list several weeks. In 1977, “How to Be Born Again” was released with the largest first printing in history, more than 800,000 copies. The book followed “Angel’s God’s Secret,” which sold more than 1 million copies in 90 days.

Graham came to faith in 1934 when he was persuaded by an employee of the family farm to attend a series of revival meetings in Charlotte led by evangelist Mordecai Ham.

After high school, Graham entered Bob Jones College – now Bob Jones University – which then was located in Cleveland, Tennessee. The young student was nearly expelled, however, and dropped out after only one semester, because he thought the school was too legalistic.

The school’s founder, Bob Jones Sr., famously told Graham: “At best, all you could amount to would be a poor country Baptist preacher somewhere out in the sticks.”

But Jones said: “You have a voice that pulls. God can use that voice of yours. He can use it mightily.”

Graham transferred to the Florida Bible Institute – now Trinity College of Florida – in Temple Terrace, Florida. Graham said in his book “Just As I Am” he “received [his] calling on the 18th green of the Temple Terrace Golf and Country Club.” He graduated with a Bachelor of Theology degree.

He then attended Wheaton College, where he graduated in 1943 with a degree in anthropology. Graham said that during his time at Wheaton he came to believe the Bible was the infallible word of God, citing Henrietta Mears of the First Presbyterian Church of Hollywood, California, as a key influence.

Graham served as pastor of Village Church in Western Springs, Illinois, near Wheaton, from 1943 to 1944. During that time he succeeded his friend, well-known pastor Torrey Johnson of Midwest Bible Church in Chicago, as host of the radio program “Songs in the Night.” He recruited singer George Beverly Shea for the program, who later became a fixture in his Gospel crusades.

In 1947, Graham became the youngest person to serve as a college president when he took the helm of Northwestern College in St. Paul, Minnesota, at age 30.

Later, he became a traveling evangelist with the newly founded evangelical group Youth for Christ International, co-founded by Torrey Johnson and evangelist Charles Templeton.

He rose to national prominence in 1949 as the lead evangelist in a series of circus-tent revival meetings in Los Angeles that drew the interest of legendary news mogul William Randolph Hearst, who famously sent a telegram to his news editors with the instruction: “Puff Graham.”

With increased exposure, the revival meetings originally scheduled for three weeks, ran eight weeks, and Graham soon became a household name.

President Ronald Reagan & Nancy Reagan
greet Billy Graham at the National Prayer
Breakfast in Washington in 1981
America’s pastor  -  Graham, a registered Democrat, developed influential relationships with 11 presidents, from Harry Truman to George W. Bush, but was careful not to endorse any candidate.

In 2012, however, Graham broke from form and endorsed Republican Mitt Romney for president. In full page ads and a dedicated website, his “vote biblical values” campaign urged voters to support candidates who oppose abortion and back traditional marriage.

The campaign didn’t mention candidates by name, but Graham met with Romney and pledged he would “do all I can to help you.”

He met briefly with President Obama at Graham’s home, April 25, 2010, and prayed with him.

“Like others before him, President Obama shared how lonely, demanding and humbling the office of president can be, and how much he appreciated the counsel of people like Mr. Graham and the prayers of so many citizens,” said Graham spokesman Larry Ross.

Graham presented Obama with two Bibles, one for him and the other for first lady Michelle Obama, according to Ross.

Graham “concluded with a prayer for the president, his family and his administration.”

In November 2009, Ross disclosed the two men spoke for the first time when Obama called Graham from Air Force One to offer good wishes on the evangelist’s 91st birthday.

Graham shared Scripture verses with the president, Proverbs 3:5-6, “Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”

Graham told Obama “he would continue to be in prayer for him,” Ross reported.

Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin and her family dined with Graham at his home that month. Franklin Graham told reporters his father had followed her career and “liked her strong stand on faith.”

“Daddy feels God was using her to wake America up,” the younger Graham said.

During the two-and-a-half hour visit, Palin told Billy Graham how she became a Christian as a girl at a Bible camp, and she quizzed him on the presidents he knew.

She also asked him what he believed the Bible says about Israel, Iran and Iraq.

Graham described Ronald Reagan as the president to whom he was closest.

A close friend of the Bush family, Graham prayed with George H.W. Bush as the first bombs of Desert Storm fell on Baghdad in 1991.

The elder Bush told ABC’s Charlie Gibson during a 2007 interview at his home in Kennebunkport, Maine, that Graham also helped him address questions about the afterlife.

“I don’t think the president is any different than anybody else when it comes to wonder,” Bush said. “Especially as you get older. … I find myself thinking about it more and more: What’s it going to be like?”

The senior Bush invited Graham to hold a series of Bible studies at the family home.

George W. Bush recalls that at a time when he was a cynic and a heavy drinker with many questions about faith, Graham had an “enormous influence” on his life.

Regarding religion, Bush described himself as a person who would “listen but never hear.”

“Billy Graham helped me understand the redemptive power of a risen Lord,” he said in a Fox News Channel interview.

Graham also developed a friendship with Bill Clinton.

Clinton recalled attending a Graham crusade in Little Rock, Arkansas, when he was 13 and becoming so moved he sent a portion of his allowance to Graham’s ministry for years afterward.

Rough start

Graham’s spiritual counsel to presidents didn’t begin well, however. In 1950, decked out in a pastel suit and white buck shoes, he prayed with President Truman, then reenacted the prayer to the press, kneeling on the White House lawn. An angry Truman, a fellow Southern Baptist, called Graham a “counterfeit” publicity seeker and refused to speak to him for many years.

Graham later apologized and retold the story to emphasize his commitment to not reveal details of his conversations with world leaders.

Graham was particularly active in Richard Nixon’s White House, regularly advising the president and leading private church services there. Graham turned down an offer from Nixon to become ambassador to Israel. After Nixon’s role in Watergate emerged through White House tapes, which captured his profane speech, Graham expressed profound disappointment.

He wrote of Nixon in 1997, “Looking back these forty-five years later, considering all that has intervened, I wonder whether I might have exaggerated his spirituality in my own mind.”

Later, Nixon’s tapes inflicted damage on Graham when segments declassified and released in 2002 captured the evangelist apparently agreeing with Nixon that Jews had a “stranglehold” on the American media. Graham issued a statement of apology amid criticism from Jewish and fellow evangelical leaders.

“Although I have no memory of the occasion, I deeply regret comments I apparently made,” said Graham, a long-time supporter of Israel. “They do not reflect my views, and I sincerely apologize for any offense caused by the remarks.”

Graham admitted, “I guess I was trying to please” and noted he went to a meeting with Jewish leaders and, “I told them I would crawl to them to ask their forgiveness.”

In 1979, when Jerry Falwell’s Moral Majority gathered strength, Graham refused to join.

“I’m for morality, but morality goes beyond sex to human freedom and social justice,” he explained. “We as clergy know so very little to speak with authority on the Panama Canal or superiority of armaments. Evangelists cannot be closely identified with any particular party or person. We have to stand in the middle in order to preach to all people, right and left. I haven’t been faithful to my own advice in the past. I will be in the future.”

But he regularly was called on at times of national mourning, leading prayer, for example, at national services following the Oklahoma City bombing in 1995 and the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.

After holding what he called his last crusade, in New York City, Graham and son Franklin held a “Festival of Hope” in New Orleans in March 2006 in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

‘Give him power and authority’ -  Graham developed a close friendship with Martin Luther King Jr., who credited him with helping reduce tensions between blacks and whites in the South.

“Had it not been for the ministry of my good friend Dr. Billy Graham, my work in the civil rights movement would not have been as successful as it has been,” King said.

Graham’s decision in 1952, in the face of fierce criticism, to stop holding segregated crusades had a profound influence.

In 1957, King opened in prayer at one of Graham’s services in New York City and came to a meeting of Graham’s team to, in the words of the evangelist, “help us understand the racial situation in America more fully.”

King prayed at Madison Square Garden, where 2.3 million attended over 16 weeks: “We thank Thee this evening for the marvelous things that have been done in this city, and through the dynamic preaching of this great evangelist. We ask Thee, oh God, to continue blessing him. Give him power and authority. And as we look into him tonight, grant that our hearts and spirit will be open to the divine inflow.”

In 1965, amid heightened racial tensions in the South, Graham canceled a tour of Europe to preach in Alabama, regarding his ministry as an effort to work with King to break down racial barriers.

In his autobiography, Graham recalled the moment he heard of King’s assassination in 1968.

“I was almost in a state of shock. Not only was I losing a friend through a vicious and senseless killing, but America was losing a social leader and a prophet, and I felt his death would be one of the greatest tragedies in our history.”

Graham said he couldn’t “point to any single event or intellectual crisis that changed my mind on racial equality.”

“At Wheaton College, I made friends with black students, and I recall vividly one of them coming to my room one day and talking with deep conviction about America’s need for racial justice.”

The greatest influence, he said, was his study of the Bible, “leading me eventually to the conclusion that not only was racial inequality wrong but Christians especially should demonstrate love toward all peoples.”

Spreading the Gospel -  Graham drew praise as well as strong criticism for his de-emphasis of theological and political differences, explaining his primary aim was to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ as widely as possible.

Forays to countries that repressed Christianity drew censure from many fellow evangelicals.

When he began his ministry, he called communists “Satan worshippers,” but in May 1982 he went to Moscow to discuss peace and nuclear disarmament at a conference run by the state-controlled church.

Graham told reporters he found more religious freedom than he expected and was surprised at the warmth of his welcome.

Despite the communist nation’s documented, systematic persecution of Christians in the underground church, Graham emphasized “there are millions of people in the Soviet Union that go to church on Sunday and practice their religious faith.”

“I’m not an expert. … I learned that there are two sides to all these questions,” he said.

Meanwhile, demonstrators outside the Billy Graham Center at his alma mater, Wheaton College, carried signs reading “Billy Graham has been duped by the Soviets” and “Russian Baptists tortured as Graham praises the torturers.”

Later, Graham issued a statement saying there had been “apparent distortion and actual misquotes” about what he had said at the conference.

“Freedom is relative,” his statement said in part. “I don’t have freedom in the United States to go into a public school and preach the Gospel, nor is a student free in a public school to pray, or a teacher free to read the Bible publicly to the students. At the same time, we have a great degree of freedom for which I am grateful.”

Hope for the world -  In a rare television interview late in his life, Dec. 22, 2010, the Fox News Channel’s Greta van Sustern asked Graham, “At age 92, do you have hope for the world, for the nation?”

“I have a tremendous amount of hope,” Graham replied, his once smooth, booming voice now measured and gravelly. “I’m a believer in Jesus Christ, who was raised from the dead, and I believe he’s alive right now.

“My wife is already in heaven,” he continued. “I look forward to seeing her in Heaven, definitely, because I’m 92 now, and I know that my time is limited on this earth.

“But I have tremendous hope in the fact I’ll be in the future life, and I’ll be there because of what Jesus Christ did for me on the cross and by the resurrection.”

Democrats Kill Colorado Bill Allowing Women to See Ultrasound of Their Baby Before Abortion

Colorado Democrats have a problem with making sure that women receive a full range of information about abortion.

For the second time in less than two years, pro-abortion politicians defeated a bill to require that women be offered the chance to see an ultrasound of their unborn child and to hear her baby’s heartbeat prior to having an abortion, according to the Colorado Independent.

The informed consent bill, sponsored by state Rep. Lori Saine, a Republican, failed to pass the Colorado House Health, Insurance and Environment Committee on Thursday in a party-line vote, the report states.

The bill would have required that abortion facilities offer women the opportunity to see an ultrasound of their unborn child and the chance to hear the baby’s heartbeat. It also would have required that women be informed of the potential health risks of abortion. . . . . Read More

New Jersey Taxpayers Forced to Give $7.5 Million to Planned Parenthood

New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy, a Democrat, signed a law today giving $7.5 million to America’s largest abortion company, Planned Parenthood.

It was the first bill Murphy has signed into law.

“Today we are saying in a clear voice that New Jersey will once again stand for the right things,” he said.

Planned Parenthood’s outgoing president, Cecile Richards, attended the bill signing.

Planned Parenthood aborts over 321,000 babies annually. Its baby body parts trafficking scandal led a Congressional panel to refer it and other abortion entities for criminal prosecution. The FBI recently requested unredacted documents from Congress about the body parts scandal.

“At legislative hearings this month, Planned Parenthood representatives declined to tell lawmakers specifically how the money would be allocated,” Bloomberg reported.

In 2016, a Wisconsin state inspector found that up to two-thirds of all Medicaid payments to Planned Parenthood facilities in that state were fraudulent.

The abortion company has faced other Medicaid fraud cases, like in Iowa, and has been caught covering up sex abuse and aiding and abetting sex traffickers. . . .

Planned Parenthood Fights for ‘Absolute Right’ to Aabortion Based on Race, Down Syndrome

Planned Parenthood and the ACLU are fighting at a federal appeals court for the right to provide abortions based on the baby’s race, sex, or diagnosis of possible Down syndrome.

The two organizations are opposing an Indiana law, signed by then-Gov. Mike Pence in 2016, that bans aborting a baby because of race, color, national origin, ancestry, sex, or diagnosis of a possible disability. The law also says aborted babies’ remains must be cremated or buried.

“We are talking about an absolute prohibition. ... The woman has an absolute right as part of her privacy interests,” Ken Falk, legal director of the ACLU of Indiana, told the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals during oral arguments on Thursday, according to WFYI Indianapolis.

The state of Indiana appealed to the Seventh Circuit after the pro-abortion groups won a permanent injunction against the law from a U.S. Disrict Court judge in 2016.

In announcing the appeal, Indiana Attorney General Curtis Hill told the Indianapolis Star that blocking the law “has cleared the path for genetic discrimination that once seemed like science fiction.”

Indiana Solicitor General Thomas Fisher championed the pro-life law before the Seventh Circuit panel on Thursday. He argued that the Dignity for the Unborn Act is not about abortion but about discrimination against the disabled. He said the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that a woman may choose if she wants a baby, but not which baby she wants. . . . NRead More

New York Attorney General’s Office Runs Fake Facebook Profile to Spy on Pro-Life Advocates

To inform readers of efforts to spy and entrap pro-life advocates, the entire article has been shared shared:

NY Attorney General Eric Schneiderman
by Michelle Piccolo: In startling courtroom admissions during cross examination by Thomas More Law Center attorney, Tyler Brooks, the New York Attorney General’s star witness admitted she created a fake Facebook page pretending she was a pro-life Christian to develop dossiers and entrap pro-life sidewalk counselors who appeared in front of the Choices Women’s Medical Center in New York City’s Jamaica neighborhood. She then passed on the information to the Attorney General’s Office, which was already well aware of her fraudulent activities.

The startling testimony came during a hearing last Thursday (2/15), conducted by U.S. Federal District Court Judge Carol Bagley Amon, to determine whether she should grant Attorney General Eric Schneiderman’s request for a preliminary injunction prohibiting pro-life sidewalk counselors from coming within sixteen feet of the Choices premises. The hearing before Judge Amon continues tomorrow (2/21), and is expected to last several more weeks.

During last Thursday’s cross-examination by Brooks, the witness admitted creating the Facebook page under the fake name of Shelly Walker. The witness described her elaborate scheme to entrap the unwary pro-life counselors named in the Attorney General’s lawsuit. She went to great lengths to invent an entirely fictitious identity; using someone else’s photo she had found on the internet, listing her occupation as a bank teller and stating she was from Saginaw, Michigan, even posting weather reports from Saginaw, as if she were there.

Moreover, in order to make her Facebook personality of Shelly Walker appear legitimate, she sent out hundreds of friend requests, friending hundreds of pro-lifers throughout the country. She purposely searched out pro-life and conservative groups and even claimed to be a supporter of Ted Cruz and Father Frank Pavone, an ardent pro-life Catholic priest. She fabricated an emotional personal story of being talked into an abortion by her husband, who she later divorced (none of it true).

In real life, she’s a Choices escort leader who is strongly pro-abortion. She does not share any conservative or pro-life views. Nevertheless, she created this fake persona of Shelley Walker to appear as a concerned pro-life advocate to gather information on and entrap pro-life counselors. In fact, she sent a friend request to Angela Braxton, one of TMLC’s clients in this lawsuit. Braxton, not realizing this was really one of the Choices escorts, accepted her friend request, thinking Walker was a pro-life advocate like herself.

She also admitted that she shared the information of the targeted pro-life counselors with the Attorney General’s Office. The Office never told her to stop or to delete the information based on her fraudulent Facebook postings. In fact, the Office outfitted her with a concealed video camera to record pro-life counselors in front of Choices. Ironically, just three weeks ago, in an interview on NPR’s All Things Considered, the Attorney General highlighted his crack-down on fake identities, impersonations and fraud on the internet. Read the transcript of the interview here.

On June 20, 2017, the Attorney General held a press conference in front of the Choices Center where he announced his lawsuit against fourteen pro-life sidewalk counselors, claiming they violated the federal Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances Act (“FACE”), the New York State Clinic Access Act and City laws. His lawsuit asked the Court to create a sixteen-foot buffer zone around the Choices premises and to levy fines, attorney fees and compensatory damages against the defendants.

During the press conference, the Attorney General boasted that he had dropped out of school at seventeen years of age to work at an abortion clinic in Washington, D.C. Astonishingly, the Attorney General claimed, “We are not a nation where you can choose your point of view,” and that pro-life Christians “run their mouths” with “unlawful, un-American rhetoric.”

The Thomas More Law Center is a leading pro-life national public interest law firm based in Ann Arbor, Michigan. TMLC represents two of the fourteen persons sued by the Attorney General.

Richard Thompson, TMLC’s President and Chief Counsel, commented upon the courtroom revelations of the Attorney General’s star witness: “I’m appalled at the Attorney General’s lack of respect for the First Amendment and his Offices’ encouragement and use of fraudulent means to obtain information so that he can persecute peaceful pro-life citizens who have become the voice of the voiceless. He has forsaken his responsibilities as an independent law enforcement officer and is now acting as an agent of the abortion industry.”

25,000 Calls Demanding ABC Apologize for Calling Christian VP Mike Pence “Mentally Ill”

As of Monday morning, the Media Research Center and its grassroots members made over 25,000 calls to ABC lambasting the network, demanding a full apology for anti-Christian comments made by The View on February 13 that suggested Vice President Mike Pence’s “dangerous” Christian faith was a “mental illness.”

Media Research Center President Brent Bozell tweeted the following in response to this statistic:
This flood of 25,363 phone calls came following a February 15 open letter by Bozell to ABC that called out the “offensive comments” by co-hosts Joy Behar and Sunny Hostin.

“These characterizations of the Vice President’s faith are insulting not just to him, but to all Christians. Yet as of the writing of this letter, neither Ms. Hostin, nor Ms. Behar, nor ABC have apologized,” Bozell added before noting that this was the latest chapter in a pattern of far-left, anti-Christian behavior by ABC.

Bozell warned that these “slurs against the Vice President’s faith insult millions of Christians and are unacceptable” and if there’s no sufficient apology, the MRC will reactivate its grassroots supporters and have them “contact the advertisers of The View.” . . . Read More

Amazing Image Shows Bright Light and Sparks That Occur at Conception

In your mind’s eye, have you ever thought/pictured the precise moment when human life begins, that instant when sperm meets ovum? We see representations, but that falls short.

Well, what if someone told you human life begins (as Sarah Knapton, science editor for the Daily Telegraph, put it) as “An explosion of tiny sparks [which] erupts from the egg at the exact moment of conception.” The romantic in you might say, “What I always suspected.”

You can see this remarkable display of bright flashes of light–this “fireworks” here.

What explains this phenomenon which scientists had previously seen in animals and now for first time in humans?

According to Knapton: The bright flash occurs because when sperm enters and egg it triggers calcium to increase which releases zinc from the egg. As the zinc shoots out, it binds to small molecules which emit a fluorescence which can be picked up by camera microscopes.

“These fluorescence microscopy studies establish that the zinc spark occurs in human egg biology, and that can be observed outside of the cell,” said Professor Tom O’Halloran, a co-senior author and director of Northwestern University’s Chemistry of Life Processes Institute, of a study that appeared in Scientific Reports. . . . New Kansas Measure Says There’s No Right to Abortion in the Constitution

Kansas Gov. Jeff Colyer is backing a new effort to ensure that the state constitution does not recognize the so-called “right” to abort an unborn baby.

On Saturday, he joined Kansans for Life, pro-lifers from across the state and other state and federal lawmakers to kick off the effort, . . .

“There’s a Kansas court that has argued that the framers, framers of our Constitution, imagined abortion as a separate constitutional right,” Colyer said. “This is just violence against the most basic facts.”

They plan to promote a ballot measure to amend the Kansas Constitution to make it clear that the state does not recognize a “right” to abortion, according to the report.

The ballot initiative is pro-life advocates’ response to a recent court ruling that “radically changed” Kansas public policy, according to the pro-life group. The judge struck down a state law prohibiting brutal dismemberment abortions that tear unborn babies limb from limb while their hearts are beating. Kansas passed the first dismemberment abortion ban in the United States in 2015. . . . Read More

UN is Pushing Abortion on Africa, But This Pro-Life Scientist is Trying to Stop Them

Uju Ekeocha
What do you call it when Western elites attempt to foist abortion on native African cultures?

At the United Nations, two women were squaring off: one, a Danish abortion advocate, the other, African scientist Uju Ekeocha.

Their opinions expose the deep clash of civilizations across the globe: the culture of life versus the culture of death.

The Danish feminist admitted that she was “a bit provoked” by Uju’s claim that Western countries are once again engaging in colonialism. In her view, she announced, African women should be able to decide for themselves what to do with their bodies, including how many babies they want, and whether to have abortions.

Uju was quick to respond.

“Culturally, most of the African communities actually believe, by tradition, by their cultural standards, that abortion is a direct attack on human life,” she explained. “So for anybody to be able to convince any woman in Africa that abortion . . . can be a good thing, you first of all have to tell her that what her parents and her grandparents and her ancestors taught her is actually wrong.

“And that, Madame, is colonialism.”

Bravo, Uju! She is absolutely right. What else can you call it when secular Western organizations fly into Africa with bundles of birth control and abortion equipment, determined to convince African women that these things are good for them? . . . . Read More

CNN Claims Pro-Life Senator Ted Cruz is Afraid - Cruz Responds

CNN’s Brian Stelter accused a few Republican politicians of avoiding his network out of fear. Sens. Ted Cruz (R-TX), and Marco Rubio (R-FL), and Florida Gov. Rick Scott have been suspiciously unavailable for interviews, Stelter claimed.

“What are they afraid of?” he asked on Twitter.

Absolutely nothing, Cruz responded. In his own tweet, he reminded Stelter that he participated in not one, not two, but three debates on CNN in the past year.
. . . Although it was a bold response, we don’t need a tweet to know that Cruz is unafraid to tell the media exactly what’s on his mind. Who can forget his epic takedown of the CNBC moderators in the middle of a presidential debate? Sensing a pattern during the October 2015 debate, Cruz laid into the moderators for their biased interrogation of the candidates. Why were they painting Donald Trump as a villain, questioning Ben Carson’s math skills, and suggesting Marco Rubio resign from the Senate, Cruz demanded to know.

“The questions that have been asked so far in this debate illustrate why the American people don’t trust the media,” Cruz said at the time. “This isn’t a cage match.” . . . read more

Cecile Richards: Force Christian Doctors and Nurses to Perform Abortions

Cecile Richards, Planned Parenthood
For the second time in two months, the outgoing president of the Planned Parenthood abortion business has said that Christian doctors and nurses ought to be forced to perform abortions.

Last month, Cecile Richards sent an email to supporters of the Planned Parenthood abortion company asking them to contact the Department of Health and Human Services to reject proposed guidelines protecting the conscience rights of medical professionals who don’t want to be forced to be involved in abortions by either killing unborn children or referring patients for abortions. . . .

Richards sent Planned Parenthood abortion activists a follow-up email today asking them to once again speak out against conscience rights for medical professionals.

“President Trump continues to outdo himself when it comes to pushing terrible health care policy that will do nothing but hurt patients,” Richards claims in the new email. “But his latest attack is truly shameful: a proposed rule released by HHS seeks to encourage health care workers to discriminate against patients by refusing to provide care because of religious, moral, or personal objections.”

“Heath care workers might refuse to treat a person seeking an abortion,” Richards adds.

As always, Richards wraps the opposition in language of women;s rights of reproductive health — never mind that women can access abortion at hundreds of locations nationwide without forcing Christian medical professionals to perform or refer for abortions. . . . Richards had the same request of abortion proponents last month. In fact, the text of the two action alerts appears identical. . . . . Read More:

Democrats Not Running a Single Pro-Life Candidate in Any 2018 Targeted District

Democrat leaders are pushing the party further into a radical ideology that demands full support for abortion for any reason up to birth

In a scathing but apt criticism of the current party, The Federalist’s Bre Payton described abortion on demand as DNC leaders’ new religion.

“Their objective is no longer to keep abortion ‘safe, legal, and rare,’ but to shout it, to be proud about it, and to kick and scream if their party does not expel pro-life defectors,” she wrote.

The upcoming midterm elections are a perfect example. Party leaders are abandoning a seven-term Illinois incumbent and supporting his challenger instead because of abortion.

U.S. Rep. Dan Lipinski, one of the last pro-life Democrats in Congress, accurately represents his constituents on the abortion issue. He votes to protect unborn babies from late-term abortions and opposes taxpayer funding of abortions, two issues that are widely popular among Democrats and Republicans alike.

For doing so, he is being abandoned by his own party. Some of Lipinski’s peers in the House are backing his pro-abortion challenger, Maria Newman, who supports late-term abortions and taxpayer funding of abortions. Well-funded pro-abortion groups like NARAL and Emily’s List are backing Newman as well. . . . According to the Federalist, the Democratic Party is not backing any pro-life candidates in key districts this fall.

. . . Democratic Party leaders have been debating whether to stop supporting pro-life Democrats altogether. And Tom Steyer, the single largest donor to the Democratic Party in recent years, said late last year that he will give money only to pro-abortion candidates.

The DNC has adopted an increasingly radical position on abortion. Its 2016 platform calls for full support of abortion for any reason up to birth as well as taxpayer funding of abortions – positions that most Democrat voters strongly oppose.

A Massachusetts mayor recently announced that he will leave the Democratic Party because of its pro-abortion ideology. He joins countless others who have become disgusted by the party’s demand that unborn babies be sacrificed and their deaths celebrated.

Democrats for Life estimates more than 23 million Democrats in the U.S. are pro-life. Last year, Pew Research found that 28 percent of Democrats say abortion should be illegal in most or all cases. Marist/KofC polling also found that 23 percent of Democrats consider themselves pro-life and 40 percent say abortion is morally wrong.  . . . Read More

Planned Parenthood Goes to Court to Fight for the Right to Abort Babies Just Because They’re Black

The 7th Circuit Court of Appeals is scheduled to hear arguments Thursday about whether women should be allowed to discriminate against their own children’s race or disability via abortion.

The abortion giant Planned Parenthood and the ACLU are challenging an Indiana state law that prohibits abortions based solely on an unborn baby’s sex, race or disability such as Down syndrome.

In September, a federal judge appointed by President Barack Obama blocked the law. However, the state appealed to the 7th Circuit Court.

. . . Indiana became the second state to prohibit abortions based on an unborn baby’s race and disability in 2016, following North Dakota in 2013. A handful of states also prohibit sex-selection abortions.

. . . Unborn babies of color are discriminatorily targeted for abortion at extremely high rates. While black Americans constitute 13 percent of the U.S. population, 35 percent of the babies killed in abortions are black, according to the Centers for Disease Control.

Many believe that Planned Parenthood and other abortion facilities also target black women for abortions. One analysis found that the abortion chain placed 79 percent of its abortion facilities within walking distance of minority neighborhoods. . . . Read More

President Donald Trump’s Proposed Budget Defunds Planned Parenthood

President Donald Trump has proposed a fiscal year 2019 budget in which taxpayer dollars would be directed away from the Planned Parenthood abortion business.

Since becoming president, President Trump has taken multiple actions to defund the nation’s biggest abortion company. On his third day in office he reinstated a pro-life policy that revoked tens of millions of dollars from International Planned Parenthood. President Trump has also signed legislation that would help states defund the Planned Parenthood abortion company as well.

Now, President Trump has put forward a budget proposal that would prohibit certain abortion companies like Planned Parenthood from receiving federal funds. That proposal applies to the Title X Family Planning program and Medicaid, as well as other HHS programs.

From page 56 of his budget proposal, comes the following language:

Prohibits Certain Abortion Providers from Receiving Federal Funds.

The Budget includes provisions prohibiting certain abortion providers from receiving Federal funds from HHS, including those that receive funding under the Title X Family Planning program and Medicaid, among other HHS programs.

Weather the budget would be approved by Congress is another story. While pro-life Republicans have repeatedly voted to defund Planned Parenthood they have been thwarted in the Senate by pro-abortion democrats and a handful of proportion Republicans who have been able to stop pro-life Republican leaders from ending debate on a defunding measure and sending it to president Donald Trump’s desk to sign. Trump has promised to sign the legislation if Congress can get enough votes to send it to him. . . . Read More

North Carolina School District Refuses to Let Planned Parenthood Push Its Abortion Agenda

A North Carolina school committee recently voted to stop providing a Planned Parenthood sex education program to middle school students.

Cumberland County Schools parents have been expressing outrage for months after learning that the abortion chain Planned Parenthood was scheduled to teach sex education their middle school children.

Last week, a committee assigned to the issue voted to stop using the Planned Parenthood program in the Cumberland public schools and return to a curriculum approved in 2009, according to the News Observer. The school board also has to approve the measure; a vote is scheduled for Tuesday.

Planned Parenthood’s sex education program “Get Real” was to be taught to six-, seventh- and eighth-grade students over a 10-day period ... However, the school district put the program on hold last fall after parents raised concerns. . . . Read More

Abortion Extremism

by Kerby Anderson, Contributing Author : The recent vote on an abortion ban after 20 weeks and a recent column illustrate how extreme the Democratic position has become on the issue of abortion. The Senate voted down the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act.

One Democratic senator tweeted that, “If women made up 51% of Congress, do you think we would still be fighting to protect a woman’s right to choose?” Actually a Gallup poll shows that vast majority of Americans (including most women) believe abortion should be illegal after three months of pregnancy. Another poll found that 80 percent of the country opposes abortion in the final months of pregnancy.

During the debate, one Republican leader tried to point out how extreme the Democratic position was on late-term abortions. He explained that only seven countries permit elective abortion after 20 weeks, including the US, China, and North Korea.

The vote and the debate caught the attention of David Brooks, columnist for the New York Times. He wrote an “Abortion Memo” to the leaders of the Democratic Party. He understands that the Democratic donors “want to preserve a woman’s right to choose through all nine months of her pregnancy.” But he wonders if that extreme position is what is preventing Democrats from winning elections and enjoying congressional majorities.

Well, the harsh reaction to his op-ed has been overwhelming. Feminists, abortion activists, and party leaders have called him all sorts of awful names (none of which I can repeat here) and many have taken to various outlets to tell him that he doesn’t understand about the issue and what’s at stake for women.

As one commentator put it: “The message was simple: dissent over abortion won’t be tolerated.” Instead of thoughtfully considering his warning, it appears that Democratic leaders are doubling down and digging in. I think this next election will show that David Brooks was right and the Democratic leadership was wrong. I’m Kerby Anderson, and that’s my point of view.

Congress Votes to Repeal Independent Payment Advisory Board, Obamacare’s “Death Panels”

Lost in the debate over the legislation funding the federal government is a key victory for pro-life advocates. While most of the focus has been over passing the legislation in the first place and a filibuster from Senator Rand Paul, pro-life advocates have been pushing to repeal the Independent Payment Advisory Board — which has been commonly and derisively known as death panels in Obamacare.

Thankfully it appears that those controversial death panels maybe no more.

The board, composed of 15 unelected, unaccountable bureaucrats, was not only directed to limit Medicare spending, but also to limit private, nongovernmental spending on health care to a growth rate below medical inflation. Little attention was given to this more sweeping danger of rationing healthcare paid for with nongovernmental dollars. IPAB’s powers went well beyond an effort to control Medicare spending. IPAB would have created drastic limits for the Department of Health and Human Services to impose on what Americans are allowed to spend out of their own funds to save their own lives and the lives of their families.

Officials with National Right to Life applauded the vote to eliminate the IPAB. . . . Read More

State Department Finds Overwhelming Acceptance of U.S. Abortion Funding Restrictions

Lisa Correnti
Executive VP, C-FAM
by Lisa Correnti: A State Department report released yesterday found wide acceptance of the expanded Mexico City Policy which blocks funding for foreign groups performing or promoting abortion overseas. The report surveyed organizations which receive U.S. funds to deliver health care to vulnerable populations overseas.

The expanded policy, called “Protecting Life in Global Health Assistance (PLGHA),” was instituted by President Donald Trump in January 2017 and extends the policy to the $8.8 billion in funds appropriated for global health assistance through Department of State, U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), and the Department of Defense (DoD).

Since the announcement last year, abortion advocates coalesced to attack the Trump administration with charges that health care delivery would flag and women’s health would be drastically reduced.

The State Department report contradicts these allegations, however, finding that as grants and contracts have come under review to renew funding nearly all prime partners have accepted the policy. Just four organizations refused to comply with the abortion ban out of 733 awardees.

Two of the non-compliance organizations are global abortion providers Marie Stopes International and the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF). Both organizations have bilateral USAID grants that would have gone through 2019 for approximately $30 million. USAID will direct the funds to other groups in the same areas, “transition[ing] the activities of those organizations that have not agreed to the PLGHA standard provision to other partners, while minimizing disruption of services.”

USAID also reported 12 sub-grantee recipients that refused to comply. IPPF reports to work in 170 countries with hundreds of affiliated organizations. These foreign affiliates stand to lose funding as sub-grantee recipients from the multimillion-dollar prime grants awarded to U.S. organizations like EngenderHealth, Pathfinder International, PAI, and Population Services International – all publicly opposing the institution of the Mexico City Policy. While the PLGHA abortion restrictions do no apply to U.S. registered organizations it does restrict the funding these organizations award to foreign sub-grantees.

According to the report, the Department of State, USAID, HHS, and DoD “have taken multiple steps to implement the PLGHA policy.” A standard provision was developed which is being included in grants and cooperative agreements for global health assistance including for PEPFAR, the Bush-era HIVAIDs initiative. Training to ensure compliance is ongoing for all stakeholders including interagency government personnel, U.S. Mission staff, and non-government organizations.

Under the standard provision of PLGHA, prime organizations and their sub-grantees are restricted from using any funding whether U.S. funding or an organization’s own funding to lobby “a foreign government to legalize or make available abortion as a method of family planning” or “conducting a public information campaign in foreign countries regarding the benefits and/or availability of abortion as a method of family planning.”

The standard provision requires awardees to agree to oversight and transparency to assure compliance. The recipient must acknowledge the State Department can at any “reasonable time, announced or unannounced” conduct onsite inspections including “independent inquiries in the community served by the recipient.” Violations of PLGHA will result in termination of an award with reimbursement of any unexpended funding to the State Department.

Exempt from PLGHA guidelines is funding for abortion due to rape, incest, or life endangerment of the mother. Also exempt is medical treatment for an induced or spontaneous abortion.

The State Department implementation report acknowledged that “not all existing agreements have received new funding, so the picture on progress and challenges is still developing.” A further review will be conducted by December 15, 2018 when the remaining 500 organizations that have current agreements will have come under renewal.

Pelosi Quotes “Welcome the Children” Bible Verse But Supports Killing Children in Abortions

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi
House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi criticized politicians for not welcoming vulnerable immigrant children Wednesday, though she herself supports the destruction of millions of unborn babies’ lives through abortion.

. . .Pelosi’s hypocrisy came through loud and clear during her 8-hour speech on immigration and the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program.

The California Democrat has come under fire many times for claiming to be Catholic and a supporter of children while staunchly defending abortion on demand up until birth.

In her speech Wednesday, Pelosi made references to the Bible and Catholic church teachings about children to defend her position on immigration. . . . .

. . . This hypocrisy is nothing new. Last summer, Pelosi criticized pro-life Republicans for not honoring God by working to defund the abortion chain Planned Parenthood and repeal and replace Obamacare.

“I know my colleagues are people of faith,” Pelosi said. “They tell us that all the time. So, this is God’s creation, we have a real responsibility to it…to minister to the needs of God’s creation is an act of worship. To ignore those needs is to dishonor the God who made us…”

One week earlier, a reporter confronted Pelosi about the contradiction between her stance on abortion and her faith, and the U.S. House leader dodged the question. When the CNS News reporter asked Pelosi if aborting an unborn baby with a beating heart dishonors God, Pelosi appeared flustered and then gave a non-answer.

To many religious Americans, including many Democrats, unborn babies are part of “God’s creation” and deserve protection – but not to Pelosi. In 2013, she put her foot in her mouth during a press conference, calling the battle to keep late-term abortions legal “sacred ground.”

Pelosi’s stance on abortion is radical in most Americans’ eyes. . . . Read More

Iowa Bill Would Ban All Abortions After an Unborn Baby’s Heartbeat Begins

Iowa Republican lawmakers made a daring move to defy Roe v. Wade and ban abortion after an unborn baby’s heartbeat can be detected this week.

State Sen. Jason Schultz, R-Schleswig, proposed Senate File 3143 to protect unborn babies from the earliest stages of life in a subcommittee this week, the Des Moines Register reports.

The bill would require abortion practitioners to test for the unborn baby’s heartbeat before performing an abortion. If a heartbeat is detected, the abortion would be prohibited except in the case of a medical emergency. Violators would be charged with a Class D felony, and liable for up to five years in prison. Pro-life lawmakers introduced a similar bill in the House in January.

State Sen. Brad Zaun, R-Urbandale, chairman of the Iowa Senate Judiciary Committee, said he believes there is enough support for the bill to pass both the subcommittee and the Judiciary Committee.

“To me, this is a step forward in banning abortion. I have been very vocal about it,” Zaun said.

Schulz said there is a clear rational behind the bill.

“We understand that when a heartbeat stops, somebody passes away,” he said. “It only makes sense to the broad body of the population in Iowa that when a heartbeat starts, you have a life there, and it should be protected.” . . . Read More

Pro-Abortion Feminists Ignore Female Genital Mutilation Threatening 68 Million Women

Tuesday, February 6, marked the International Day of Zero Tolerance for Female Genital Mutilation. While general news outlets, government officials, and social media recognized the day, feminist and women’s news sites remained silent, even as they claim to champion women.

Those sites included Bustle, Cosmopolitan, Jezebel, and Teen Vogue. They have no excuse. #EndFGM trended on Twitter, the Associated Press reported it – and the U.S. government and United Nations released statements on the day.

For his part, UN Secretary-General António Guterres slammed FGM as a “gross violation of the human rights of women and girls.”

“Without concerted, accelerated action, a further 68 million girls could be subjected to this harmful practice by 2030,” he stressed in a statement.

And, according to the AP report, the U.N. Population Fund “projects that the estimated 3.9 million girls subjected to genital cutting every year will rise to 4.6 million by 2030 due to expected population growth unless urgent action is taken.”

According to the World Health Organization, FGM presents no health benefits, but threatens lasting physical and emotional pain. FGM victims who have spoken out against the practice agree. It’s a human rights violation haunting 200 million women worldwide today.

UNICEF executive director Henrietta H. Fore and UNFPA executive director Dr. Natalia Kanem also released a statement on Tuesday.

They defined FGM as a “violent act that causes infection, disease, childbirth complications, and even death,” a “cruel practice that inflicts lasting emotional harm and preys on the most vulnerable,” a “ violation of human rights,” and a “drag on the well-being of communities and economies.”

“By 2030, more than a third of all births worldwide will be in the 30 countries where female genital mutilation is practiced,” they warned, but they also hoped that “with increased investment and redoubled political commitment, with greater community engagement and more empowered women and girls, it is a race that can be won.”

In a press release recognizing the day, the U.S. government’s FBI and ICE condemned the “heinous activity” that happens with “disturbing regularity.”

“Female genital mutilation/cutting (FGM/C) is a violation of the rights of women and girls that leaves lasting mental, emotional and physical scars,” stressed Chris Hacker, Deputy Assistant Director of the FBI’s Criminal Division. “The FBI’s work investigating human rights issues such as FGM/C is among the most important work we do, safeguarding children.”

The statement also noted that the FBI and the Department of Justice were responsible for “the first indictment under the federal law banning female genital mutilation.” . . . Read More including linked stories

Massachusetts assisted suicide bill may force doctors to refer for assisted suicide

Massachusetts doctors are actively opposing the bill to legalize assisted suicide.

Last week Dr. Tom Sullivan, a former president of the Massachusetts Medical Society, along with 20 other physicians, urged lawmakers in Massachusetts to oppose the assisted suicide bill that provides no conscience protection for doctors who oppose assisted suicide.

Bill Morris, in writing for the Washington Free Beacon wrote:

The current bill includes no such protections, which would force any doctor in the state to refer patients seeking assisted suicide to a willing physician. A Massachusetts Medical Society spokeswoman told the Washington Free Beacon that the current bill language will not alter the stance of the society. Some doctors are upset at their refusal to lobby for protections for members who do not agree with the practice.

Massachusetts primary care doctor Mark Rollo told the Washington Free Beacon:

“This is not giving the patient the right to die. It is giving the doctor the right to kill,”

“We are mandated by this current bill to transfer a patient to someone else. I don’t want to be complicit in killing a patient.”

Rollo, a former Air Force doctor, also stated:

“The legislature should not feel comfortable passing this because it’s encouraging people to die and feel like they’re a burden—their ‘right to die’ soon becomes a duty to die.” . . . Read More

Iowa Newspaper Complains More Babies Have Been Born Since State Defunded Planned Parenthood

. . . A major Iowa news outlet complained that more babies may be born in Iowa this year because lawmakers defunded the abortion chain Planned Parenthood.

The Des Moines Register editorial board slammed pro-life Republicans this week, complaining that they created a “contraceptive desert” in Iowa.

“They have made it more difficult for Iowa women to obtain birth control and more likely women will seek abortions and give birth to unwanted children,” the editors argued. “They have helped Iowa become a contraceptive desert.”

In 2017, Planned Parenthood closed three abortion facilities and one abortion referral center in Iowa after state lawmakers cut off taxpayer funding to abortion groups. It still runs eight facilities across the state.

Abortion activists complained that the move would deprive minorities, young adults, low-income families and people in rural areas of essential health care. And the Register editorial board echoed those concerns this week, using limited new data about the effects of the legislation.

In a carefully-worded claim, the newspaper board asserted that 15,000 people lost access to “entities specializing in preventing pregnancy.” In a separate editorial, the board identified those “entities” as the four Planned Parenthoods that closed.  . . . Read More

Toledo Ohio May Become Abortion Free: Court Orders Abortion Clinic Closed for Violating State Laws

Toledo, Ohio is on it’s way to becoming abortion free.

In a huge pro-life victory today in the state of Ohio, the Ohio Supreme Court ruled in two separate 5-2 decisions that Capital Care Network of Toledo is operating illegally and Ohio’s largest abortion clinic lacked standing to bring a lawsuit.

Here’s more on the ruling:

The Ohio Supreme Court has ruled that because Capital Care Network of Toledo violated a 21-year-old rule requiring all ambulatory surgical facilities to have written hospital transfer agreements to facilitate emergency treatment, the Ohio Department of Health was within its rights to revoke the clinic’s operating license.

After the University of Toledo Medical Center declined to renew its transfer agreement with Capital Care in 2013, no such agreement was in place until Capital Care negotiated its 2014 agreement with the University of Michigan Health System, which the Ohio Department of Health (ODH) did not accept under its rule because the Ann Arbor, Michigan, location was too far away to accommodate emergency treatment.

In a majority opinion authored by Justice Terrence O’Donnell and released today, the Court ruled that ODH’s revocation of Capital Care’s health care facility license was supported by “reliable, probative, and substantial evidence and is in accordance with law.” The Court held that lower court rulings overturning ODH’s license revocation were based on claims that Ohio’s 2013 law requiring the transfer agreements violated the facility’s constitutional rights. Justice O’Donnell wrote that those courts did not examine the authority of ODH to revoke the license for violating the rule, and the Supreme Court declined to consider the constitutional issues.  . . . West Virginia Bill Would Finally Ban Taxpayer Funding of Abortions

A West Virginia bill that would end taxpayer funding for abortions in the state is slated for a public hearing Monday in the state House.

West Virginia is one of 17 states that funds elective abortions for low-income women through Medicaid. State House Bill 4012 would end taxpayer funding for abortions except when medically necessary to save the mother’s life, the AP reports.

Since 1977, state taxpayers have been forced to pay millions of dollars for tens of thousands unborn babies’ abortion deaths, according to West Virginians for Life.

“The federal government limits tax funding of abortions to cases of rape, incest and life of the mother – but West Virginia will pay for Medicaid abortions for any reason,” the pro-life group said on its website. “It’s time to get West Virginia out of the abortion business.” . . .

In 2017, state taxpayers paid for 1,560 unborn babies to be aborted through Medicaid, according to the report. In 2013, about 500 unborn babies were aborted with taxpayer funds, the AP reports.

The bill recently passed the state House Health and Human Resources Committee and now is being considered in the Judiciary Committee, according to WV Metro News. The state Senate is considering a similar bill, Senate Bill 417.

Very few Americans support taxpayer funding for abortions, and West Virginia lawmakers are working to protect state taxpayers’ money. It was a West Virginia Supreme Court decision in 1993, not voters’, that allowed taxpayer-funded abortions in the state. . . . Read More
